As a musician, guitarist, and guitar tech for many artists in the past I can tell you that besides having the largest skull crushing vocals in a very small body Ronnie James Dio was a VERY intelligent, kind, intellectual, mannerly, and morally correct person. The highlight of each year was House Party Weekend. We would blow our social budget and hire Ronnie James Dio & The Elves from upstate New York to play at that party. Those performances became the stuff of legends. Ronnie James was awesome. He had no reservation playing an ultra high energy show in front of an enthusiastic group of 18-21 year old college students. We had a beer tap in our large party space that opened up to a big patio and he would stick around after his show and have some brew with the Brothers before packing up and driving north up US Route 15 back to New York State. He was a genuinely nice guy who sincerely enjoyed entertaining his audience no matter how small the venue.

Yes my husband said it really was incredible guitar work.....
Vivian Campbell is an amazing guitarist. He plays and writes songs from the heart. He knows how to rock the fuck outta the place🤘🤘🤘🤘
When he joined Def Leppard I was like, “what happened to Vivian Campbell?” He was at his best with Dio
Dio had an amazing voice. He sounds here live just as he does on the album.
Good lord this guy could sing. epic. Buying every album now.
Vivian Campbell gets down on that one
Dio was a class act and a genuinely kind person, Blackmore, not so much.
I'm the youngest brother of someone who worked with Ron and he was apparently a cool dude and positive. Blackmore (sp?) was an asshole piece of shit. I wasn't even born yet but I appreciate this master class. Unreal talent.
Kind or not, Blackmore is a musical genious. Musically he's out of this world, as a person he's unfit for society.
A friend of mine who a music store went to a music industry convention and bumped into Ronnie James Dio. He asked him for an autograph and was very gracious and friendly. They talked for 15 minutes. My friend said he was the nicest, kindest man. You'd never guess that with his powerful voice. He was the best metal singer of all time and a class act.
Yep. Viv speaks up, Wendy and Ronnie screw him royally...
Interesting how it all went down, very Ozzy like.
Dio was never the same without Viv, and it showed.
@Fred Virtuoso Ozzy fucking sucks and so does the rest of his family.
Everytime I watch this video it seems to get better. Vivian was only there a few year's but he was killing it with Dio. Dio has yet to be matched as a heavy metal vocalist. RIP 🤟
Unbelieveable vocal performance... Best of all times! R.I.P. GOD!
Ed J, I am 57 almost 58 and still love good metal. And Ronnie will always be up there as one of the gods of metal as far I'm concerned. So let the folks my age get into that Pop, errr...I mean what passes for country nowadays. I'll stick to real music that really moves you.
See
I listen to Dio and can't help think of Jack Black and Tenacious D paying tribute to the master! Such an amazing voice!
Dio can you hear me......
Yes Sir!
Hell yeah and bro I subscribe to you already.
No one like Ronnie, no one!! He was the best singer and he remain the best forever!
Same
What a powerful voice, one of the best ever, RIP
Hopelessly in love with a man who's no longer with us :( R.I.P the mighty DIO
I have loved this song forever. And Dio rip
He’d want you to go on. There are plenty more of us rockers stomping around doll.
skank
Bridie Shaw hope you doing ok ☺
za warudo wasn't enough for him at the end
RJD and his epic hand motions. XD
Vivian Campbell, WOW!! he was on fire with Dio. Great tone.
Epic and phenomenal - so heavy the tone is on fire!
This song was my teenage angst anthem. Hell, these days it still makes me crank it up and channel my 80s angst
Still recall telling my parents I am a rainbow in the dark.....
Ronnie was a cool dude.. This was one of the best perfomances Ive ever seen!! Wow!! and Vivian Campbell just Rocked!! What a band! Miss you Ronnie James Dio!! God rest your soul!
2:21 I love this freaking solo!
One of the few vocalists who never changed even though they're getting drowned with fame
Artists that respected their Audience. Love you Ronnie James Dio! "Look Out"
There are singers who wish they could sing like this live.
10 years since we lost DIO. RIP to one of the greatest vocalists of ALL TIME
It's been 6 years ago today RIP Dio
:'(
I want to like the sentiment of your comment, but not the reality of it. :(
why I can't find a girl like. u. I don't know.why
He was a good singer. R.I.P.
amazing voice rock icon
What a riff man you can almost feel it it’s so heavy - truly phenomenal
I saw him Sep. 1st., 1984 at the Monsters of Rock concert in Nurnberg, (W. at the time) Germany. Great concert....
You are one lucky man!
Fyeahhh
I was in Frankfurt at that time, but wish was old enough to see them. But never forget all the posters on streets, an building walls for AC/DC and other concerts at that time.
Wild stuff man. A different era, gone now.
Saw him New Years Eve, 1984 in El Paso, TX. Magic....
I didnt appreciate how good this guy/band was when I was listening to his stuff back when it first came out. Pure vocals no computerized smoke and mirrors. So humble out there shaking hands with the fans. Cool stuff.
I'm so thankful I grew up in the 80s and got to see DIO 3 times live. The best 10 years of my life
I Met him .... he loved his fans !!!! Great person. Brings tears to my eyes watching videos.
I think my favorite thing about this clip is Ronnie's smile. Obviously having a fantastic time.
Never forget listening to the Heaven and Hell album in the early 80,s . Dio did a fantastic job on that album. Neon nights kicked ass with Dio on vocals.Seems like yesterday.
Yep! Was 13 in 1980 and heard Heaven and Hell not long after in '81 or '82. Then my neighbor heard me listening to H&H shortly after Dio's first solo album came out. He said if you like H&H, you GOTTA listen to this! I was HOOKED from my first listen! Got to see him on the Dream Evil tour and three times after in the 90's and '02 on the Killing The Dragon tours! Dream Evil is, to this day, my FAVORITE concert EVER! And I've been to a lot of concerts in 36 years!
It will always be there man. You know what I mean? No matter what happens. It happened
A true master. And BTW, hey kids, do you recognize that guy absolutely ripping it on the guitar? Well, that is Vivian Campbell, pre neutering in Def Leppard. I know you gotta pay the bills, but.......anyway Vivian was an absolute master as well. Pick up the album, "The Last In Line" and have a listen to the guitar solo on the title track. If you play guitar, try and learn how to play it. It is one of the best guitar solos I have ever heard. Period.
It is VERY EPIC- Not the very best- but it is definitely up there
brother, he still is the man, in 2010 he jammed this song out with steel panther, DL hasn't dulled his shredding mastery.
Yeah the rainbow in the dark solo is crazy man, Tony Iommi does some crazy shit in his 2 solos in the song Over and Over with Dio. Try to learn how to play that !!
I wouldn't say its the best guitar solo ever (have a listen to some of Gary Moores stuff) Vivs solo is good alright ,, In my guitaring days I was able to play it ,so its doable ;)
I never get tired of this
