When most people think about metal its about that scream shit. Personally i think that shit is godawful. Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth is real metal not that squeeling shit

    • @judgefish4044
      @judgefish4044 4 года назад +65

@@RoyyGn Yeah I have only heard that stuff on occasions. I'm relitavely new to metal and I can tell you that from a person who thought metal was screaming I was dead wrong. It's a shame because I really feel a lot more people would like some kind of metal but the negative connotations of metal being screaming and satanic which are both false, put them off. Pretty much all the people I befriend I tell them to listen to metal. First edge them into it with some classic led zeppelin and black sabbath and then iron maiden, metallica, Megadeth and so on.

My dad is a drummer and possibly the biggest Iron Maiden fan I've ever seen (he's made one of their songs my second name), he was barely 11 years old when this performance happened, and today I am 21 years old and I continue to appreciate the band's works from waaay before I was even born, I never cease getting impressed by how timeless and legendary Iron Maiden is, they keep improving and getting better and better even nowadays, I know they'll be in history books for a really long time

6:13 I will never not get goosebumps during these final lines. Like the whole song exists only to build up to that final exclamation. And Bruce absolutely destroys it live. I love this version over the recording.
From a storytelling and songwriting perspective, this song is unmatched. The instrumentation mirrors the lyrics and the psyche of the speaker as it grows more and more uneasy.
If you read the lyrics, if you pay attention to the guitars and drums and bass building and building in their tempo and aggression to this point, you begin to realize how important these final lines are and how Bruce's delivery makes it so perfect.
The speaker begins the song afraid of death, doubtful of God's existence, then he spirals into despair asking-if he exists-why God's allowed this to happen to him.
By the end of the song he has an epiphany, a revelation, and as he's about to die, he reliquishes all his doubts and accepts his fate, finally wailing in guttural, primal submission: "HALLOWED BE THY NAME!"
    Goosebumps. Every time.

    "Hallowed Be Thy Name"
I'm waiting in my cold cell, when the bell begins to chime
Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time
'Cause at 5 o'clock they take me to the Gallows Pole
The sands of time for me are running low
    Running low
When the priest comes to read me the last rites
I take a look through the bars at the last sights
Of a world that has gone very wrong for me
Can it be that there's some sort of an error
Hard to stop the surmounting terror
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming
It's not easy to stop from screaming
But words escape me when I try to speak
Tears flow but why am I crying?
After all I am not afraid of dying
Don't I believe that there never is an end?
As the guards march me out to the courtyard
Somebody cries from a cell "God be with you"
If there's a God then why has he let me go?
As I walk all my life drifts before me
And though the end is near I'm not sorry
Catch my soul 'cause it's willing to fly away
Mark my words believe my soul lives on
Don't worry now that I have gone
I've gone beyond to see the truth
When you know that your time is close at hand
Maybe then you'll begin to understand

I completely agree, and yet, I have to say - while Clive keeps it as tight as a pull of a black hole, Nicko stretches it, bends it and swings it just like you're riding the black hole's event horizon itself. Both are incredibly awe-inspiring when it comes to playing this song.

To all the people thinking Dickinson's vocals are overdubbed, know that this was recorded in a time when overdubbing in the studio was a major challenge, much less doing it live. Overdubbing as we know it didn't start coming in properly until a few years after this was made when digital equipment became more readily available, and even then most studio's still had the good old reel to reel to track the bands. There's no trickery here with Bruce, or the band. Fact is the tech just didn't exist in 1982, so what you hear is what you get. They were (and are) fucking good at what they do, they don't need any 'enhancements' to make them sound good.

Maiden are one of those rare bands where the live performance often surpasses the studio recording. Besides live rock music is mostly about the skill of the musician with his instrument, as there are no electronic sounds involved.

I always thought he "fanned" it with two hands on the hats, but check out 3:49: clearly shows one hand playing the pattern. Drummers, ever try playing that with one hand, at this tempo and volume, on 15" heavy high hats, especially near the end of a show? My right arm would've fallen off! [Intro]
I'm waiting in my cold cell, when the bell begins to chime
Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time
Cause at 5 o'clock they take me to the Gallows Pole
The sands of time for me are running low
    Running low, yeah
    [Verse 1]
When the priest comes to read me the last rites
I take a look through the bars at the last sights
Of a world that has gone very wrong for me
Can it be that there's some sort of error?
Hard to stop the surmounting terror
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
    [Verse 2]
Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming
It's not easy to stop from screaming
But words escape me when I try to speak
Tears fall but why am I crying?
After all I'm not afraid of dying
Don't I believe that there never is an end?
    [Verse 3]
As the guards march me out to the courtyard
Somebody cries from a cell "God be with you"
If there's a God why has He let me go?
As I walk my life drifts before me
And though the end is near I'm not sorry
Catch my soul, it's willing to fly away
    [Verse 4]
Mark my words believe my soul lives on
Don't worry now that I have gone
I've gone beyond to seek the truth
When you know that your time is close at hand
Maybe then you'll begin to understand
Life down here is just a strange illusion

As a music engineer, The reason why he (Clive) stands out better than Nicko is that, music wise, if you listen carefully. Clive actually plays along with the bass notes and not the guitars. Especially heard in the sólo towards the end, as Steve’s changes notes, Clive uses the crash (clear crash note use example at 5:40 bass note change, crash use) and then the snare (you can hear the clear example of Clive playing with the bass notes at 5:47 and then 5:56 when he uses the snare ) giving the drums more bass, while also allowing the guitars to stand out on their own at the same time, yet still maintain a stronger depth sound with the bass . Compare to Nicko who plays along side the guitar notes. Differences that gave Clive a better bass sound over all. A technique rarely use now.

It’s often over looked that drums and bass should be playing together and complimenting each other. It is the rhythm section after all.

M.R Crítica oh this is far from fake, in fact what you’re listening to pure Iron Maiden. No special affects or tuners. Just Iron Maiden at its purest.

I saw this tour when I was 18 in 1982 .Bought the album...met Iron Maiden at a Turtles records and tapes in Atlanta just before the concert...had them them autograph the LP .Still have it to this day.Turned my 23 year old son onto early Maiden.Thankfully,he absolutely adores their first 3 albums just like his old man.I saw Maiden live twice back then.First with Paul DiAnno then with Bruce.I'm 57 now...old man .but I still love my hard rock, hardcore punk rock, and of course early Iron Maiden. The autographed album will go to my son when I'm wearing a dirt blanket !
