I dedicate this song to my grand father who flew B 24 liberator bomber over Germany. He was shot down over France. Became a POW until freed in 1944. He flew 23 missions. He was the first Native American aviator in the US army air corps. Survived the POW camp.

Back in ‘86 I went over to my friend’s house across the street. He opened his door with his yellow Walkman, passed me the headphones and said “listen to this”. He pressed play and that was it. I begged my parents to buy me a bass and 34 years later still I play this song at least once a week.

One of the most amazing things about this video? Every single one of the members you see here are still in the band. A VERY rare thing. I don't know of any band from the 70s/80's who still has their full classic/best lineup in place, not to mention, STILL putting out kick ass new music and selling out stadiums world-wide. No other band that I can think of can boast that.

True, Rush can be added to that list. Point being, it is a very select and distinguished list. The point I was making is specific putting out new music that is still resonating, with the same crew. That removes ZZ Top and given the recent retirement of Peart, leaves Maiden as one of the only groups from the 70's/80's, still in tact, and still putting out new music that charts and sells along with selling out arena's.

It was Winston Churchill's speech in parliament, in defiance of the Nazi war machine taking over Europe. Instead of approaching a treaty as his predecessor had desired, he decided to stand against them. This lead to "The Battle of Britain", an aerial assault of Britain which this song is based on.

Years ago my dad knew a guy named Andy. Andy was an American (like my dad and myself) Paratrooper during WWII with a wild story. He had jumped out in France but was separated from his regiment. Andy hid in a field (from the Germans) for a week before finding his way into a French village. From there he went from place to place for an entire year and some, before seeing another American soldier. Crazy shit!

Grandpa was a US citizen that went to fly for the RAF, Flew a spitfire most of his career before being absorbed into the USAAF 8th air force.
I have a deep and profound respect for the heroes of the Battle of Britain that triumphed over impossible odds. British, American, Canadian, Polish, Czech, Slovakian, French, Russian, those Who never surrendered no matter how dire the situation and fought onto the end.

I feel it very deeply, from the music, to movies, to fashion, however it saddens me that I can’t jump in a Time Machine and witness the 80s for myself.
We have our own culture.
My history of rock & roll class teacher played this in class. He put in a DVD full of Maiden music videos and he chose this one, one of my favorite songs. I nearly jizzed myself in front of the class, and couldn't stop myself from headbanging and singing the lyrics.

By the way, hate to break it to you all, but he isn't really an awesome teacher, he just teaches an awesome subject. He tends to be dickish and a smartass at times with students and will put them down for mistakes while other teachers are more understanding or even care for their students. I tried to make conversations with him but he comes off as weird, and once suggested to me that my absence in one of his classes wasn't anything of value lost. He even made fun of my friend for playing an ukulele with only one hand, calling him lazy, until my friend told him he suffered a stroke at seven and can't use his left hand at all.

Agree,but giveearly Maiden a listen and to the original singer.This band is (IMO) the greatest metal band… and the longevity.The earliest music is well worth listening to.
During the years that Bruce had left Maiden, I would have loved to have seen one Iron Maiden tour with Ronnie James Dio on vocals.
Imagine what would have happened if Bruce Dickinson and Freddie Mercury had sang something together.

Churchill was a dog and a junky.
The Iron Maiden seed was sown in my mind at a very young age by one of my first close friends. I was around 8 years old when they moved away and returned when we were both 11 or 12. The moment I stepped into his room on the top floor, I was welcomed by Eddie on all his posters. From that point, we began to listen to Iron Maiden's music together without grasping its meaning. As I got older, that seed began to flourish, and I now comprehend the lyrics with remarkable clarity. Thank you, my dear childhood friend.
