He is up there with Jimmy Page Eric Clapton David Gilmour and Tony Iommi and all the greats of the 70's..and even in the 80's with Rainbow..he may have lost a step at age 71 but i can never forget his time with Deep Purple..one of my favorite bands of all time God Bless Ritchie..he is Greatness! One of the most underrated guitarists of all time! an enigma and a genius!

Only if we buy their records, DVDs and merch do we enable the young bands and musicians to turn their passion into a profession and also to be able to make a living from it. Ritchie was never given the credit he deserved as a guitarist, songwriter or performer. He is amazingly talented but doesn't have the 'Star' ego-tripping confidence to really put himself 'out there'! I have met the guy, and he is actually very mild and humble, but very intense when it comes to his music.
In every thread there is always somebody who says a super duper Star has not been given enough credit. And I don't know how old you are but Richie never had a problem with confidence or ego.

Blackmore has always been one of my top 5 favorite guitarists. With Jimi, SRV, and EVH. Saw Rainbow (with Dio) in 77 or 78, with Starz and Blue Oyster Cult, just to see Ritchie. Still sad I never got to see him with Deep Purple.
And the fifth guitar hero should be Michael Schenker! I got to see Ritchie in 1982 with Rainbow (Straight between the eyes tour) and with the reformed Deep Purple in 1987 (House of blue light). There was always this dark and moody vibe on the right hand side of the stage, like this is forbidden territory for anyone except Ritchie, which was epic and perfect for who he was to us. Fun to see that Romero gets to stand close to Ritchie without having his head bitten off. That's new!

Ritchie and the band were great, as usual, but that singer really nailed it. Having a good, strong singer who can pull it off live always helps a band to play at their best. This performance was a good example of that!
Ronnie James Dio is a better vocalist than Ian. Ian never sang properly and ended up losing his voice occasionally. Ian screamed as much as he sang. Screaming is not singing. In my opinion the solo to Highway Star is one of those iconic solos that shouldn’t be tampered with, and I wish Ritchie played the solo the same way it is on the original recording , but it still sounds great!
