UFO's Wild Willing and Innocent album is so undervalued in 80's hard rock. They took some artistic chances on that album that make that album one of my all-time favorites.
Neil Carter played keyboards, guitar and sax. When he played with Gary Moore he would sing some of the songs on tour. He later became a music teacher in Brighton.
@froggy5935 yea, seen them on that tour, they had a really young guitarist...seen them on the Strangers tour. 78, some of it made the record..gig was at Carthage College in Kenosha,Wisconsin I was 13..haha, they were phenomenal...hey wait a minute 😅.
What a blinder. I saw them on their '83 farewell tour as a teenager and Neil's sax break was such a heartbreaking moment. He went into a bit of Coltrane at the end! Best hard rock band ever. Mogg had such a unique and powerful voice. Man was a poet.
I remember going out and buying this single and seeing it on top of the pops on BBC1 Remember seeing them in 82 at Leicester Pete way was such an awesome bass player
@Rush Shulka, Cheap Trick was huge in Japan in the late 70s, early 80s. And when this album was released, UFO were quickly disappearing from the charts in America, while Cheap Trick was on the rise.
They cut a whole verse of the song @1:56. About 25 sec. You would have to be a huge fan of this UFO album, "The Wild, the Willing and the Innocent" (like I am) to even know that. This album didn't get the recognition it deserved. I don't care if Schenker's not on it. The reason why it got pushed aside.
Always loved how they Had a lot of diversity Even with softer songs that and up in the the dirty old meanstreets were heartbreak and love growing up with its inertwine realities of survival they know how to write shit even when it was soft it rocked Keep flying High with UFO
Would LOVE to see Bruce Springsteen do a cover of this classic UFO tune, as Phil Mogg was going through his Bruce Springsteen period as a writer. My favorite UFO song for 44 years.
From 1980.❤️ Not long after this came out, I remember I sewed this one UFO patch which was free with this single on my jacket. Not on a denim. Oh no. But on my ordinary waterproof jacket and then later on my school bag. No other band patches. Just one lonely UFO patch. Well, I was only 10. Lol! 😅
Paul Raymond unfortunately left, that brought in Neal. What a great musian to fill the departure and keep U.FO. on top as the best band ever. .Period....
This was a minor English hit right? Great song, one of their most diverse songwriting achievements. Neil Carter did his fucking best to give UFO as much of a commercial push as he could with all his musical talent contributing. I feel like this stuff could have been bigger. The label probably wasn't into pushing UFO as much as newer bands at this point, I'm assuming? Both this and "Back Into My Life" should have been monster hit songs. I guess maybe it was already a couple years late for this kind of working class commercial hard rock. I'm glad Neil is playing with UFO again. Are they playing any Paul Chapman era UFO music still? This stuff was great. Just superb songwriting, and Chapman has a very unique style that is just different than Schenker, not better or worse. This era of the band was very Thin Lizzy esque.
I heard they had a shitty distributor and finding their albums was difficult when they were making a push to go big. Then after the hype died down the albums were available but the time had passed. Could be BS but it kinda makes sense. They should have been massive.
It always pissed me off the way they got a bunch of uninterested boring nerds to stand in front of rock bands of totp. Why didn't they let some headbangers in ffs?
Going to see these on Tuesday 12th March 2019, 50th and final tour I'm lead to believe. Shame Schenker won't be with them though. That was their best era IMHO. I knew the guitarist here,Paul Chapman, personally though (he's moved out to LA now), and he does an exemplary job. He was also outstanding in the Welsh rock outfit Lone Star too (do a search for the Bells of Berlin or the Ballad of Crafty Jack) He once gave me a guitar lesson sitting on the edge of the stage in the Moon Club Cardiff many, many moons ago. A real nice bloke,as they say round my way.
They toured a lot with Cheap Trick the year this came out. Rick & Robin of Cheap Trick said Phil Moog & Pete Way were obsessed with Bruce Springsteen, you can sure here the influence in this song.
They were an underrated band. This song was one of their strongest on many levels. UFO’s difficulty was they changed their image and style of music. That’s why only musicians, mostly, know about the band. They opted for a sax playing some songs (which certainly wasn’t “metal”). Judas Priest certainly wasn’t doing that, for example. Crossing over was something you could maybe do in Europe, but they weren’t going to break in the US doing that. Nor with the dorky huge blues guitar Neil was playing here. No doubt, an awesome musician, but image is 80% over on this side of the pond, unfortunately. Also Losing Michael Schenker hurt their songwriting. Even though Tonka was decent. Not special, but decent. His tone, nor his feel of playing were at that “superb” level.
UFO were never a cliche metal band, they had far more to offer. They went from strength to strength with Paul Chapman and made four of the best hard rock albums with him. He was a very capable guitarist with memorable solos, this one of them. They had class. That's what separated them from the others and endears them to their fans. They also had the songs which made them the envy of many.
This is ok but nowhere near what they did with Michael Schemer . And they weren't off their lowest point ie Misdeanour where they looked and sounded more like Kajagoogoo.
UFO's Wild Willing and Innocent album is so undervalued in 80's hard rock. They took some artistic chances on that album that make that album one of my all-time favorites.
I totally agree!!!
I bought this album out of a 3 for 10 bin in the mid 80s without ever having heard a single song from them. One of my all time favorites to this day
Neil Carter. We salute you. One of the greatest all rounders of all time🤘🤘
Neil Carter played keyboards, guitar and sax. When he played with Gary Moore he would sing some of the songs on tour. He later became a music teacher in Brighton.
Saw UFO in 2020 and Neil Carter had (once again) replaced Paul Raymond (RIP). I believe that was their final US tour.
@froggy5935 yea, seen them on that tour, they had a really young guitarist...seen them on the Strangers tour. 78, some of it made the record..gig was at Carthage College in Kenosha,Wisconsin I was 13..haha, they were phenomenal...hey wait a minute 😅.
WWI & Mechanix are vastly underrated albums, as is Paul Chapman’s guitar playing.
They were perfectly good on their own. Trouble was when they were compared to earlier offerings with Mr Schenker in the lineup.
Belter of a song. Met Paul Chapman once In Edinburgh after a Waysted gig. He was an absolutely lovely bloke. RIP 🫡🫡🫡
What a blinder. I saw them on their '83 farewell tour as a teenager and Neil's sax break was such a heartbreaking moment. He went into a bit of Coltrane at the end! Best hard rock band ever. Mogg had such a unique and powerful voice. Man was a poet.
Tja alweer een beer van een band zeer goed,
83 Fair well tour? They played for decades, for at least 3 and half decades after 1983.
I love the Schenker UFO but the Paul Chapman albums are overlooked and underrated
Along with Lizzy, these guys set the standard for classy, melodic hard rock.
Triumph
Why do people start comparing these two. TL is "OK" but songwriting and overall music isnt even close.
100% I am loving that UFO and Lizzy are almost always mentioned in the same sentence!
UFO the greatest band in the world if you get a chance go see them they are without a doubt one of the greatest live bands ever.
i have been trying for a year now, they seem to only tour outside of my region, i also am the only fan of theirs in my whole town
"Lonely Heart" one of UFO's best songs...a tender melody with a rocker's edge!
I remember going out and buying this single and seeing it on top of the pops on BBC1
Remember seeing them in 82 at Leicester Pete way was such an awesome bass player
Phil Mogg is my all-time favorite front man. Amazing vocalist and not a total ego-maniac.
I listened UFO since from my childhood 😮
This is my favorite band of all time, love all of there music,it all I need to get my Day going, totally awesome Band.
UFO❤what a great song and band as well as a great voice he had.
Lovely to see me old mate Neil in his first TOTP performance.... Rock on Tonka - your memory will live on.....

Какие все красивые и молодые.....❤❤❤ Привет из России!
Saw them play this live at bradford st George's hall 19th january 1981. I was 11 yrs old.
RIP Pete Way and Tonka
RIP, Paul Raymond. Saw them play this song opening for Cheap Trick in Bethlehem PA early 80s
Indeed, however Paul Raymond isn't on this, Neil Carter is keyboards/guitar/sax
thanks for the correction
It's a pity UFO were opening for a rubbish band like Cheap Trick. A band who were never known outside of the US.
@Rush Shulka, Cheap Trick was huge in Japan in the late 70s, early 80s. And when this album was released, UFO were quickly disappearing from the charts in America, while Cheap Trick was on the rise.
@@rushshukla4636 saw Blackmore's rainbow open and blow away cheap trick in my Town Chicago. We left after 6 cheap trick songs
Had this single in clear vinyl! Happy days! :-)
Still got mine!
Me too.
Best UFO album!! My favorite line up. Neil Carter rules!!
A absolute brilliant band
RIP Mr.Rayond your music will live on.
Niel Carter truly the underrated GOAT of all the UFO lineups!
They cut a whole verse of the song @1:56. About 25 sec.

I was looking for this comment! I thought I was losing my mind when I didn't hear the verse
Single version. Album versions are always longer.
Strangers in the night gig still one of the best ive been too
Absolute class. Brilliant tune.
Fantastic albums from rock legends
Always loved how they Had a lot of diversity

Saw them in 1982. With Thin Lizzy and Blue Öyster Cünt.
Trifecta!
Wow that's a heavyweight bill😅
Would LOVE to see Bruce Springsteen do a cover of this classic UFO tune, as Phil Mogg was going through his Bruce Springsteen period as a writer. My favorite UFO song for 44 years.
Pure Love-Thx for the great Memories-The Music lives Forever-This Song lives Forever in our Hearts
From 1980.❤️

They have been doing “We Belong to the Night” and occasionally “Makin’ Moves” on the Last Orders tour
@@cillianmcdevitt two great songs, very cool. Thank you!
I heard they had a shitty distributor and finding their albums was difficult when they were making a push to go big. Then after the hype died down the albums were available but the time had passed. Could be BS but it kinda makes sense. They should have been massive.
Very nice...
It always pissed me off the way they got a bunch of uninterested boring nerds to stand in front of rock bands of totp. Why didn't they let some headbangers in ffs?
Uncle Meat kinda pre headbanger here. This would have been considered straight up hard rock anyway.
RIP Paul Chapman
Excelente
Their bassist produced the punk band Cockney Rejects at those times and made a very "UFO" album with them.
Super morceau de saxo

Lone Star cover version of She Said wow amazing song.

Excellent guitarist!
Good story

Hruod van Springsteen sux, UFO shouldn’t ever be compared to shit💩UFO is undoubtably the most underrated and unappreciated band ever!
Iron Maiden - Angel and the gambler)

Oh the overdubs on Mr. Neil Carters parts
👍👍👍
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Saw UFO open for the outlaws in 81 in Houston
Phils extra cute with his bandana
What an amazing singer, and band!
Yellow guitar can go in the bin though 😂. I hate those tuners.
neil.cartar.keyboard.Rhythmguitar.Sax、very.good
I realise now I’m older....
I hear Springsteen, Petty, Bob Seager In UFO’s music
Yes, but only in 80s UFO do you hear those other bands.
They were an underrated band. This song was one of their strongest on many levels. UFO’s difficulty was they changed their image and style of music. That’s why only musicians, mostly, know about the band.

hello mum
A El Rock-Òdrom d'avui hem volgut recordar en Paul Chapman fent sonar aquesta cançó al final del programa: ruclips.net/video/NF8ryIkMemQ/видео.html
I think they're playing air guitar.
It's TOTP, if you don't know. Everyone who plays there play on playback. Sad but true.
This is ok but nowhere near what they did with Michael Schemer . And they weren't off their lowest point ie Misdeanour where they looked and sounded more like Kajagoogoo.
