UFO are criminally underrated. They've influenced so many bands, and Michael Schenker has influenced an army of guitarists. The five albums they did with Michael in the 70's, plus the live masterpiece Strangers In The Night , belong in every rockers collection, alongside this album Walk On Water.

When this song and this album came out I couldn't believe my ears, this is one hell of a comeback, absolutely top level along with the 70s releases, Schenker - Mogg is a match made by the rock gods, as long as they worked together the magic was always there.. Superbe song for a class act band, the Ufo Schenker I or II era are legendary 🤘🤘

@@tonycarlier2493 Agree. And then, it came so great quite surprisingly, when one could hardly expect a jewel from a seemingly tired and worn band. The first song is splendid, at least two songs could be cut with the musical ideas included; then Venus is almost even better, then I can't wait for the chorus: Darkes days... but most of all, near the end of the whole thing I am every time waiting for an absolutely fabulous bit - the words _I am dreaming of summer / of just me and you now, etc. - just a few seconds of musical (not lyrical) beauty comparable to the fragment: _Did she understand it when they said
/ That a man must break his back to earn his day of leisure? in Beatles' Girl.
Has any other hard / heavy rock band ever released such a great album so late down their career?

OK, to be fair: Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers was another great reunion album, better than expected on a post-the-prime stage of musicians' careers. But UFO were even later down the line with Walk on Water and... Walk on Water is even greater than Perfect Strangers, in my opinion.

The entire album is sensational! A very rare case when a come-back album (after some lean years and disintegration of the band) is arguably its best. One great track after another, crowned by the fabulous last one.
Here in Self-made man merits of Michael are so obvious, no need to say more. However, listen closely to drums part and appreciate how clean and precise they are, how well produced, how great they sound, especially the snare, how every single touch can be heard. And much more: generally known for his regular, steady beat and strong hit, here Andy Parker astonishes with intricacy he had not revealed much before. Just count how many pauses, changes of speed jus for two or three bars, changes of time signature. He does more in this single song than on many previous albums.
I enjoy brilliant Michael, cool Pete Way, rock-solid Phil and competent Paul adorning the background, but I say BRAVO! to Andy Parker.
