This is a great video and the simplest explanation that I have seen so far. My upper looper started hitting the needle after the needle broke. Now that its not hitting the needle, I can tell the timing synchronization of when the looper is supposed to be under the needle is a little off. It sews, but the stitching is not right. Once I get that right, I will verify if the lower looper looks right. Thanks for posting this...its a big help!!!
took mine to find out what was wrong new to serging, the repairman said it would cost me to repair the unit more than I paid for it, been sitting in its bag for years. Now I know what to do to fix it. Boy they sure ripe you off for repairs Thank you so much for the information
Thank you so much for posting this easy fix! I struggled for hours watching tutorials and nothing helped to find the reason my overlock machine threads were not chaining! I did the adjustment to the upper looper and it fixed the problem!
This was very helpful, thanks. This was the first (and pretty much only!) video I found that helped me figure out why the left needle thread was not getting caught in the chain. Everything seems to work correctly now. And thank you the head's up on how to clean out the machine. Much less scary than I thought. Two items of note. The Allen wrench is the 2mm size and I only needed to remove the front screw to extract the face plate.
I was trying to figure out factory setting visually on loopers and you've uncovered all the details in such a visually understanding way. Now this one I'm working on is the Baby Lock 5180 but seems as tho all loopers work alike minus plastic or metal. I'm glad to not have to remove that plastic face. Because you are so willing to go thru that headache I was encouraged to go thru learning processes. Mechanic time I've spent is 18 hours removing cleaning and resetting positions. You have now helped me get a chain going! Oh the thrills we enjoy from these machines. It's definitely a great start to becoming a seamstress knowing how to move these timing issues yourself. The shop would have taken 2 weeks at the soonest along with $120 to get eval and fixed. God Bless you all!! Hopefully I can get into some feed dogs moving material. That's my next problem to solve. Seems it maybe easier than the timing...holy cow!
Thank you for this video!!!!! My main sergers foot died on me and I pulled my brothers serger outta retirement and then realized I replaced it because the timing was driving me insane! Literally spent $500 on a new machine! With your video 3years after it collected dust it’s sewing like BRAND NEW! God Bless you!!! ❤️
Wonderful video. I am having a hard time getting the face of the surger back together. The screw holes are so deep and I can not get the machine back together😢Any suggestions?
Ohhhhhhh THANKS! The left needle was not catching anymore. I have been setting the upper looper thread hole based on other websites, which they say that the hole is between the 2 needles when the needles are at the highest peak. Your setting is better with an explanation and more accurate. I have done a lot of precise settings with this machine, not covered anywhere too including the shaft distance at the base of the lower looper. It's complicated, so I plan on making a 3D CGI cartoon of this entire calibration process. One more thing. All the tools you need to fix this machine can be bought at Harbor Freight, because this crappy machine is not worth expensives tools.
AWESOME! That is such a HELPFUL, clear video! Thank you! I'm actually looking for how to remove/replace the THREAD BASE/POSTS and THREAD HOLDER LOOPS BAR, both of which are broken. But yours was fantastic!
Thank you! I just had a really bad jam and the timing of the upper looper was way off. The bottom of the shaft was hitting the bottom plate of the machine! It works perfectly now.
This video gets right to the point and I can DEFINITELY appreciate that! But I can’t seem to loosen the bolts with the Allen wrench that I purchased. I’ve tried different sizes and I’m trying not to ‘strip’ the bolt. Are you turning towards you or the machine when loosening the bolts?
Hello! I have a bizarre problem with my brand new 1034D where the motor is revving freely when I press the pedal and feels unresisted but the needles aren’t moving and it isn’t sewing no matter what settings I change. What could be the issue? Thanks
Hi would you have a clue as to why the feet on my surger knit lock newhome 743 stop pushing the fabric through when I put the presser foot down along as the presser foot lever is raised they move and I can surge as soon as I lower the presser foot lever the teeth stop help? Any one have a clue?
Here's the proper timing values in the OEM 929D and 1034 Service Manuals: manualzz.com/doc/6446955/service-manual-for-homelock-model-929d manualzz.com/doc/23413070/brother-1034d-serger-service-manual I believe they are basically the same.
Just got a 1034D. Thank you for this. Was lookiinng at the Brother site and they did not list it. Will do my own maintainence on this since it is so inexpensive.
I have tried to follow this and after 2 hours every time I adjust the upper looper to the position in the video I turn the knob and it ends up hitting my needles. What am I doing wrong??

Trust a women to put out the very best video. Thank you so much 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏x
I spent 6 hours trying to fix this before finally finding your video and I thank you SOOOOO much 😂
This video literally saved me $95 from taking it to someone to get it fixed and almost $300 from getting a whole new machine lol thank you!

Thank you for this video...I spent the whole day figure out how to open and clean .. before I bring it to the store

OMG I love you so much right now. I was pulling my hair out bend parts trying to make this thing work. You are a lifesaver.
Ohhhhhhh THANKS!

Wonderful explanation on how to adjust timing and cleaning of the surger. Thank you so much
would be very helpful to show which screws you remove prior to removing the panels

Thank you! This video is so clear and easy to follow. Really appreciate it.

It’s a 2.5mm METRIC Allen key, NOT standard.
Lefty loosy, righty tighty as a memory aide for direction to turn.
Thanks for the tutorial. You have just made me a lot braver!
Thanks you I followed your instructions and fix my serger that got jammed last night. 🥰
Great instructions! So easy to follow! Thank you!!
Omg you saved me alot of money. Thank you sooooooooo much.
Great video. Very clear shots. THANKS 😊
Thank you about to help my wife fix hers
Good video. Your hex nut is more commonly called a set screw. A vacuum nozzle combined with that air can would be better.
When you're doing your bottom Looper measurement, are you taking it from the r position of the Stitch length? Because that will move the cutter
you are a godsend! thank you!
I was told to never blow machines with air to use vacuum attachments instead as to not fry and components

Hello why my machine work fine and after couple stitches the left needle not sewing
What size/type of allen wrenches do i need to fix upper looper?
You're an angel, thank you!!

My stitch length dial is not moving seem like it is lock, do any one know how to fix it.

Does the upper Looper have a slight bend on it? Right at the area where the hole is
How adjust it
How to adjust the upper loop
Yer Awesome!
I always wonder how to set the machine.
Are you still available? I have one of these but the upper looper is still getting caught on the lower
