    Your video is a treasure. Thank you! I bought my serger 1034dx last month and i was looking for a youtuber that explained the functions of the butons controls, not only how to thread. The way you teach and show in details, with a nice and perfect image, is wonderful. Read the manual is good too, but a well experienced teacher is better. I wish you a happy New Year.

    I am glad you were able to figure this out. I have the same machines. I am not using my surger much because I feel so intimidated. I don't even know what the other pressure feet are for that came with the machine. I'm a more visual learner when doing anything new in the sewing world. That's why I watch your tutorials!

    Jeanette, you are a life safer! I tried to do a rolled hem on my Brother 1034DX but failed miserably. I managed to remove the stitch knife correctly, but my stitch length, stitch width and other settings were way off. I kept creating big gaps of space in the thread of my rolled hem scraps. This video solved the mystery! Yaaaaaay! Like you, I got so frustrated and agitated, but now I'm doing rolled hems like a pro! Thank you!❤❤

I will make sure I thoroughly read it in the future! Enjoy your serger as well. 🙂

    Thank you for this video!! I bought the DX just to be able to do a rolled hem but, didn't even know it was called "Rolled Hem" and was confused with the Serger edge.
    And you could lower the blade and just do the rolled hem over the Serger edge stitch.

  • @jeanene72
    @jeanene72 Год назад +3

    Put the needle into the corner first, which holds that fabric down so that you can then pull fabric right into the tunnel. (If you don't put the needle into the corner of the fabric first, it is very difficult to pull it into the tunnel. )Then lower presser foot, and start sewing. Keep the edge taut, and as you sew you have to keep that edge in the same place so the fabric gets caught by the thread, and does not roll too much and have raw edges sticking out from under the roll. (I read my owner's manual to figure this one out, lol. ) I get beautiful rolled hems that way, BUT you will still have that little "tag" at the corner where you started, that you have to cut off.

    I use needle nose tweezers to get it started on the single needle rolled hem foot and swear by spray starch before hemming with it. I practiced without starch until I got it ... but my first garment rolled hem was on satin and I starched. PERFECT. The serger rolled hem would have given my hem too much body for that garment but the serged rolled hem looks much better in some other applications, like your napkins.

    I'm a moderately confident sewer but the Brother 1034DX has been problematic for me. I use the user's manual as a reference tool regularly, and I was able to figure out how to pull out the "finger" to set up the rolled hem, but I didn't really understand the chart recommendations until I watched your video. Those adjustments made all the difference!! I mostly sew costumes for a halau (Hawaiian dance and culture students) and the rolled hem is SOOOO much easier and neater than ironing and folding over a standard hem when you are dealing with a skirt that uses 4-5 yards of fabric! Also perfect for hemming the various ruffles that get added to sleeves, dresses, and skirt bottoms! Thanks for making & sharing! :)

      Totally agree. The settings for the hem is in the manual. Very easy to follow.

    For this foot to start. Make a few stitches on the fabric so u have a tale to feed it in n u can pull on that thread to start it

      Thanks I'm going to try that. I am new to the serger world so any tips are great! I am having lots of fun using the machine!

  • @ameliakennemer

    I’m pretty sure in the settings the R-6, for example, is R (5) through 6. Or R through 2. This is to account for different fabric and needs. Also, the 2.0 that you placed are the feed dogs. This is for stretch materials. Closer to the 0.7 would be for woven fabric. That has nothing to do with the stitch length. The settings for your cotton placemat will not be the same for a single layer rayon.
    Then finally, the finger that you removed is to evenly space stitches. It’s for overlock because it’s a serger but it’s just to evenly space the stitches. A rolled hem isn’t going to have space in the stitches, hence, there’s no reason for it.
    Happy serging!

    I have never had any luck using the pressure foot on the sewing machine for the rolled hem. Very frustrating.

    On the serger do you have to disengage the cutter? Or is it on as you do the rolled hem?

    • @BoricuaSewingCrafts
      @BoricuaSewingCrafts  2 года назад

      Hi Ssisters! I don't disengage the cutter. I exactly use it when doing the rolled hem. I just cut very little of the side of the fabric. I want to make sure it catches.

      Yes. I didn't have the tension set correctly. The air flow is a nice machine but honestly I like the way the 1034DX stitches better.

    What fabric you used? This setting doesn’t look good on my cotton fabric also Its single fabric , no doble so I wonder if thats why your settings dont look good on mine

    • @BoricuaSewingCrafts
      @BoricuaSewingCrafts  6 месяцев назад +1

      It could be the fabric. I used cotton fabric but it's was thick. I purchased it at a sew and quilt show. If the fabric is thin then it will curl up.
