I want to s start embroidering greeting cards but wondered if you could use so bought cards to embellish using my machine. Does anyone have any suggestion or videos to point me to please for inspiration?
I'm just starting to do embroidery. I've watched many tutorials. This is the most useful and informative tutorial I've seen. I'm saving it!! Thank you!!
Nancy, I cannot say thank you enough for this in-depth tutorial. You are so right that there are many things assumed that beginner embroiders are supposed to know. Thank you for thinking of us and filling in the areas with your knowledge.
Just an FYI. If you want to you can also use plastic wrap instead if water soluble stabilizer and or freezer paper instead of tear away for practice embroidery. This saves you on using up your good stabilizers
Both can gum up your machine over time though, it will make your machine need servicing much more often. If you don't want to use stabilizer, a rag in a similar material with the same laundering needs works for back stabilizer.
I think I found a good tutorial that will save me time and money, as a beginner. Thanks for adding the additional info based on your experience. Especially the types of stabilizers and files.
I love your font. Your “Make Up” and “Maggie” are fonts from your Janome embroidery machine or your Cricut? If Cricut, what’s the name of the font? If not Cricut, where did you get it?
completely agree with machine and hoop size and $$$$, buy the machine with the largest hoop size you can comfortably afford, she is right, you will never regret going bigger.
What font are you using, OMG there are so many !!!!!! Did you have to make the word with additional software and if so what is the software? I hope it's not too hard for a beginner.
Thanks so much for a very comprehensive tutorial on how to begin machine embroidery. I bought my machine a little over 18 months ago, and the learning curve has been pretty steep. Although I did get 2 lessons on how to use the machine, which was extremely helpful, it was not as organized as your video. I still have trouble hooping baby shirts, onesies, towels so usually for these items I float them. I plan on using tear away stabilizer on the next towel I make as you advised. I just finished a towel with appliqué and embroidery, and the design is very stiff, even though I used a soft cut away. I wanted to use the towel for drying hands, but it is so stiff, it will have to be decorative only. I bought Embrilliance Essentials to use, and it has been great. It is doing everything I need it to do right now. As you know, you can add on the other parts if you want to do more complicated things. The price was affordable, and there are many online tutorials to explain how to use it. I still have problems getting my designs from Embrilliance to my machine, using a flash drive. I have gone through two flash drives already, and am having problems with the third one. I don’t know what I am doing to cause the drives to stop working. If you have any advice, please let me know. Again, thanks so much for such a great video. BTW, I bought a Baby Lock Spirit. It is an embroidery only machine. It has been fabulous and comes with a very comprehensive, easy to read and understand manual. I may have to get a different machine, as the largest size hoop is 7 x 12. But it meets my needs now,,and the cost was affordable.
Thank you for this video! I’ve been wanting to monogram some towels. I’m now motivated to pull my embroidery machine out of the box, which I’ve had for a couple of years!
Thank you for the simplicity of your video and assuming we didn’t know anything. I was gifted a embroidery machine and didn’t have a clue how to begin. THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you for this video!!! I was given a machine, and this is the most helpful video I have found to get me started in the right direction with machine embroidery.
Great tutorial. I've had an embroidery machine for a while but really just getting back into it now that I'm retired. This was a great refresher since there were a few things I've forgotten. Thank you!
Lorrie, this video is my first exposure to machine embroidery and you did a fabulous job of introducing this new world to me. Thank YOU so much for taking the time to create such an easy to understand presentation of machine embroidery! Kindest Regards, Doris!😊
Not sure what happened to my other comment but to sum it up thank you for speaking to me on my level. I will definitely move forward and get started practicing on my make up towels. I’ll tune in again.
This vid was so helpful! I’m interested in embroidering designs on shirts and hoodies and am interested in the same machine you have. Would you recommend it for this purpose ? Thanks !
Hi, iI have never embroidered on turkey towels or Table napkins. But I want to, for the first time. So, I don't know which type of thread to use . Silk threads ten to break very frequently. Mine is just semi automatic Home sewing g machine.. Not a completely embroidery sewing g machine. So, can you please guide me, how to go about this? Please :)
Lorrie, this was so awesome. I have had my Brother sewing/embroidery machine for a couple years and have yet to use the embroidery part of my machine. I love all of your tutorials and this is particular one is so inspiring. I’m going to go ahead and do something with embroidery and now I can’t wait. I find that I have so many of the same thoughts about sewing and doing projects quickly and easily. Thanks so much for your help with this. One question ... and I know it’s very basic ... what type of thread do you use? Just regular polyester thread or special embroidery thread? Thanks so much for what you do and provide for us.
Sorry, I didn’t see the information about the thread that you have listed before I asked the question. Thanks again, Lorrie, for the great information.
Thank you for the kind words! I linked the embroidery thread I use in the video description. To start out I just got the thread listed. There are more expensive threads but these do just fine for everyday projects
Hi Linda, I have a Brother sewing/embroidery machine that I purchased from my local dealer about four years ago. Even though Brother has its own thread, my dealer recommends the Exquisite brand embroidery thread because interestingly enough, it works best in the Brother machine. They also recommended Fil-Tec bobbin thread. I tried another, cheaper brand of bobbin thread and had lots of issues so they were correct in recommending this company. The bobbins come threaded which is so convenient and time-saving. A box of 80 will run $39.99 but they last a long time.
Lesa Hall Thank you for the information, Lesa. I am anxious to start using the embroidery on my machine. Been busy making masks and working my weighted blanket business. I think I will be able to give it a try soon.
I have to say thank you so much for this video, you made it so easy to follow and understand...my husband is sitting next to me I'm sure worrying about what machine and craft I'm jumping into now 🤣
Your 500e came with software you can combine patterns. Load it onto a computer, once. Put the pattern(s) you want into the program then move to your machine. My MC9500 & MC9700 (both are combo machines) allow me to combine patterns right on the machine itself. But with the 500e, if I wish to add text or another pattern, I do the manipulation on my computer using the software supplied by Janome for my machine, write to the memory stick and stitch away. This was a great video. I love my 500e. I frequently use a larger "frame" (HOOP) and fill it up. Lately its Free Standing Lace and using the software that came with the 500e, I can layout with 6 flags, or 12 earrings in one hooping. BTW, I LOVED 505. Yet, I no longer use 505. After trying the basting spray that comes in a purple aerosol can that is water clean up. Why? I found is easier to clean up than 505. And no staining. My MC9500 was the latest model when I started doing machine embroidery.. I have been doing this for over a decade. Again, great video!
Thanks, Lorrie! This is exactly what I needed! I find this with so many topics that the beginning tutorials are missing the real beginning information. Really appreciate this lesson! ❤️
Finally! A proper tutorial. I’m such a novice the only thing I can say this video is missing is how to setup the string. I don’t know where to put it or how to route it. Great tutorial! Like you said, I never saw one this thorough, and they all assumed people knew a lot of the basics.
It’s thread not string! She explained at the beginning about not showing things that were individual to machines because they vary. Your machine will maybe have numbers (most do) so just follow them but it’ll be in the instructions clearly showing that. If you’ve lost them you should be able to find online somewhere
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. I've been wanting to buy an embroidery machine, but wasn't sure how to get started. This video help tremendously, and now I don't feel so intimidated.
Thank you so much for your tutorial! I've had my machine for two years (Baby Lock Flourish2) and have not used it. I live is a very rural area and am learning to fly by the seat of my pants! You presented so much great info. that I'm hoping to apply to my embroidery adventures.
Hi, I’m From UK, it’s 1.25am in the morning, I just by chance found your website, truly thankful, this is the best ever video. So clearly explained. Great tips with stabilisers. I have a Brother Innovis 4000D embroirdery machine. I am a beginner. I shall definitely follow your website and videos . Once again a BIG 🙏, for a brilliant video , God bless you
Thanks so much for this video. I have had my machine for almost a year and I have only used it for sewing. Your tutorial has made me eager to get started. Thanks
I guess the only thing you didn't cover is that some project have different colors in them, so how would you change your thread in the middle of a project???? you can email me with that answer at irenesirk@gmail.com. I have never embroidered anything and I have a babylock sewing machine and I love it so far. I have an embroider attachment and I kind of just sit and look at it and move it around. Now I am interested in trying it out.
Thank you so much for this intro embroidery. I’ve had my Janome 500e for over 6 months and I haven’t embroidered anything yet.....just lots of practicing. You have inspired me to make MakeUp towels and give them as gifts. Will you be giving a tutorial on how to use the different functions on the Janome embroidery machine? It is so much easier to learn visually and you make everything so clear and easy to understand. Thank you.
This tutorial was so helpful to me. A year ago I bought a Bernina 730 at auction and have been hampered by time constraints, as well as being intimidated by it. I just need about 3 days to sit and play with my machine and go through this tutorial. Thank you. Will you make a step 2 tutorial? I need remedial machine embroidery classes!
I love your videos Lorrie! You obviously outline what you’re going to talk about beforehand and your videos are easy to watch. There are so many videos I just can’t watch because the person is so disorganized and unprepared and post their videos unedited! Drives me crazy, 🥴
I've been doing machine embroidery for abouut 4 years, and learned more here than I've learned in the past 4 years! For the water soluable stabilizer I sometimes baste it in place.
I have found this video so helpful thank you, I’ve been having problems and you have solved them. I didn’t know I could make the words top to bottom thank you again x
Thank you so much for this video....extremely helpful for me.....I am new to embrodery and I never used an embroidery machine before....I recenly bought the Janome MC500E and I would appreciale links to any other videos you may have as I have the same machine as you
I created cross hair designs and maximum hoop outlines for all my hoops. I stitch these out on the stabiliser without thread in the needle when floating fabric in the hoop. This gives you the centre point and ‘ grain lines’ to help you line up the fabric. Agree on hoop sizes, not sure I want the maximum hoop sizes that are 14” square as if the hoop gets too large it is hard to keep the fabric taught, which affects design registration. If the machine has the hoop size you want there is no need to go for all the bells and whistles, spend the extra money on software. Most software exports designs for most machines, so you do not have to buy software from the same company. If you want to create designs from scratch make sure it can use vector (svg) files, and will digitise at actual size and does not automatically shrink it to fit a hoop.
Just got a brother 625 and I'm so glad to find this video. All the others did not explain as clearly and thoroughly. So appreciative of you for doing this. Thank you You are Awesome!!!!
Thank you so much . This is amazing ! I bought an embroidery machine and I haven’t taken it from the box yet as I had no idea what to do. You are right the information booklet on these machine don’t help at all but you made it very clear and easy . Thank you so much 😊 🇦🇺
Hi Lorrie....Thanks so much for your videos. Can you tell me the font you used on these make up towels? I really like it but can't find it.....Thanks so much, Have a Great Day!
I have embrillance and would love to see video's on learning how to use the Emibrillance software. I bought the the Brother pe800 embroidery machine and learning. I also took a sewing class and received a brother's sewing machine. Love your video's.
Absolutely fantastic video Lorrie - you are totally right there isn't much information regarding the very basic things you need to know. I haven't even unboxed my embroidery machine yet and been anxious to get started as haven't a clue. This has helped me immensely. Thank you ever so much !!!!!
Thank you for this video. I’m in the process of purchasing the Janome 500e. I want to do edge to edge quilting on my quilts. Are you still enjoying your Janome?
Wow you are good explaining this!!!!! I really appreciate your teaching, my husband just brought me a Viking topaze 40 and I am so so so clueless but after watching this video, you have explained it so so well. I just want to say thank you so so so much, Im excited to dive into my machine after I purchase thread lol.
If you gonna stitch in the middle you dont have to mark anything just put your design in the middle and the machine knows what hoop it in and go straight to the centre, that at least the case of my brother, one other trick you can put light tape that is made of paper over your fabric and put your points znd lignes adjust the machine remove the tape and thats it thanx for the video a big like
Thank you. Like you there were some missing puzzle pieces in my early embroidery training. I have been doing embroidery for 5 years but did not have a clue what the grid guide was for or how to use it. I love your machine in the way the arm is placed on the right instead of left. Kinda jealous. Again, thank you.
Thank you for this beginner’s embroidery tutorials as I do not know where to begin.. I am getting a Bernina 570QE and looking forward to making embroidery projects.
Awesome I need to sell my machine I like yours I think k I was sold a lemon I have a husqvarna but never find tutorials in it that explain like you do 👍
I am a Jack of all trades, master of none youtube junkie and this is one of the most helpful videos I’ve ever watched. Thank you!!
lol thats funny
The rest of that quote is "but still better than a master of one." Don't be so hard on yourself! 😁
Haha I’m exactly the same 🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣
I want to s start embroidering greeting cards but wondered if you could use so bought cards to embellish using my machine. Does anyone have any suggestion or videos to point me to please for inspiration?

2 years later and I am saying the same thing Thanks you for making this!
Just an FYI. If you want to you can also use plastic wrap instead if water soluble stabilizer and or freezer paper instead of tear away for practice embroidery. This saves you on using up your good stabilizers
does it work as good tho?
Both can gum up your machine over time though, it will make your machine need servicing much more often. If you don't want to use stabilizer, a rag in a similar material with the same laundering needs works for back stabilizer.
Awesome tutorial!!! Very viewer friendly.
This was by far the most comprehensive tutorial, especially for someone that has been apprehensive abt using my machine 🎉 THANK YOU!!
This is the best beginner tutorial I’ve seen. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for filling in the missing instructions for newbies. Thanks for letting us know it was truly a beginners video!!
THANK YOU!!! This was EXACTLY the information I needed and couldn't find anywhere! I'm so grateful!
sew glad you are doing embroidery tutorials now! Sure wish I had you when I started last year. Great tips.
I think I found a good tutorial that will save me time and money, as a beginner. Thanks for adding the additional info based on your experience. Especially the types of stabilizers and files.
It’s about time! Thank you! I have a machine but I’m petrified!
I love your font. Your “Make Up” and “Maggie” are fonts from your Janome embroidery machine or your Cricut? If Cricut, what’s the name of the font? If not Cricut, where did you get it?
Thank you for remembering what it was like to be a "beginner"!
completely agree with machine and hoop size and $$$$, buy the machine with the largest hoop size you can comfortably afford, she is right, you will never regret going bigger.
I have been embroidering for years and never thought about the binder clip for the hoop. Thanks so much for the tip. I will be using it from now on!
What font are you using, OMG there are so many !!!!!! Did you have to make the word with additional software and if so what is the software? I hope it's not too hard for a beginner.
What font was used pleaseee
@@p1fisher I guess she’s not going to answer. I hate it when people make a video and never answer people’s questions

Hello. Thank you for this video. Can you tell me what font you are using for the makeup towel?
Do you have a video (yet) on when you don't need the backing material, or when to use different types? Great video BTW!
This is exactly what I needed!!! It was all so confusing but now I feel like I can step back and look again.
I am glad to have found you. I'm new at embroidery.
Thank you for your tips!
Thank you for the simplicity of your video and assuming we didn’t know anything. I was gifted a embroidery machine and didn’t have a clue how to begin. THANK YOU!!!!
I love the clip idea. I did have a towel in the hoop and it opened between letters. Sad day. I had to realign the project. The spacing got off.
Thank you for this video!!! I was given a machine, and this is the most helpful video I have found to get me started in the right direction with machine embroidery.
Excellent explanation. Had my machine for a year now, you have given my the confidence to finally get started!!!!❤️
Thanks a lot, I wasn’t sure from where I can start and you helped me a lot
Great tutorial. I've had an embroidery machine for a while but really just getting back into it now that I'm retired. This was a great refresher since there were a few things I've forgotten. Thank you!
Me also 👍🧵

Another good resource is a Facebook group specific to your brand of embroidery machine.

Thank you so much, it's my very first time and I watched this after I started. You answered all my problems....

I’d like to create my own designs to embroidered - so I’d just do this on the software that comes with the machine?
Thanks, Lorrie! This is exactly what I needed! I find this with so many topics that the beginning tutorials are missing the real beginning information. Really appreciate this lesson! ❤️

Love the clips! What a brilliant idea! Mine kept popping out too & it was so frustrating
You are just amazing. I’ve had my Husqvarna Jade 35 for 18 months and never had the nerve to try it!
Love this tutorial! It was very informative and appreciate you explaining every little detail so i feel confident in doing it myself!
I use a little temp spray on water soluble to avoid pins getting caught just a tip
Hmmm never tried that. Good to know.
Great video and beginner instructions. I made my first “Makeup” towel!!!

Thanks for this, it was nice walking through all the basic steps...I found this very helpful!
Thank you.
Lorrie, you're Awesome! You're such a diverse Crafter and make everything for your followers so much easier! Thank You Kindly! Jacquie
Awesome video! Could you please do more embroidery videos? I have the same machine and am brand new to embroidery. Thanks!!!
Do you have advice on how to work out the cost to charge for your embroidery! I work from home and have friends and family ask
Thank you very much for this tutorial ,it's so helpful.
Thank you for spending time to explain things. I found your demo very helpful. I still have questions about the right thread and needles to use.
Oh thank God!!! I am hooping my 1st project today! Didn't have any instructions! You just saved me.. Thank you😊😊

Thank you so much. Excellent tutorial. I think I now have confidence to try some practice embroidery on my new machine.
I've been doing machine embroidery for abouut 4 years, and learned more here than I've learned in the past 4 years! For the water soluable stabilizer I sometimes baste it in place.
This was so helpful! Im thinking of buying a machine but wanted to understand the process more beforehand
thank you! 😊
Thanks very much for your clear, concise, informative video.
Margaret Crawford
Thank you so much for this tutorial and Q&A. You are a WONDERFUL teacher and you've made me less "scared" about delving into machine embroidery!

Thank you, a very helpful video. I've just got a Brother M380D (UK) I haven't practised yet, I'm gathering information first!

Yes, please do a video on Embrillance. I have a Brother SE 1900. New to all of this. Thanks!
This is an excellent video! Thank you so much for your help!
Absolutely fantastic video Lorrie - you are totally right there isn't much information regarding the very basic things you need to know. I haven't even unboxed my embroidery machine yet and been anxious to get started as haven't a clue. This has helped me immensely. Thank you ever so much !!!!!

The best beginner tutorial I’ve seen! Thank you. Thank you.
Just ordinary thread?
You make it look so easy. I just bought an embroidery/sewing machine that is a Brother.
wow!!! thank´s!! wonderful video.,very well explained, the most useful I´ve seen
Finally someone that can teach properly!!!!! Thank you so much.
awesome video. Glad I found your channel. I am new and we use the same machine...which helps. I will be watching more of your videos
If you gonna stitch in the middle you dont have to mark anything just put your design in the middle and the machine knows what hoop it in and go straight to the centre, that at least the case of my brother, one other trick you can put light tape that is made of paper over your fabric and put your points znd lignes adjust the machine remove the tape and thats it
thanx for the video a big like
Great video! Quick question. Does the bobbin thread need to be embroidery thread also? Thanks.
Can't find the link to the towels you like to use for the make up towel. Could you post that? I'm a complete newbie and this video was so helpful!
IKR 🤣
Awesome I need to sell my machine I like yours I think k I was sold a lemon I have a husqvarna but never find tutorials in it that explain like you do 👍
thanks for this useful video , i got v3 but after my needle broken , the automatic threader not working , is there a solution for this problem
Now that you have been embroidering for awhile, are these the same machines you would still recommend for a beginner?
Thank you for the great video. Did I miss you mentioning what font you used? I love it.
