People think Supes is such a pushover, but the moment he drops the boy scout routine, people think he's a monster.

People think Supes has well-defined powers, but he can be whatever the writers want him to be. He's not holding back, fercryinoutloud--how does that make sense? He's fighting to defend the lives of others, sometimes the earth itself. The 'holding back' trope is to explain how he can suddenly kick everyone's ass.
Answer me this--was Zod holding back? Any version of him. His power comes from the exact same source, and he's a trained soldier. He still basically always loses, because as a villain, that's his function, most of the time.
Superman's power exists in our imaginations, and we can make him weaker or stronger, as it suits the story being told. He's not more powerful than other superheroes. Just more famous than most of them--and as the first of them, he has a certain preeminence. But there is no objective power level for an imaginary being. Period. Geez, Deadpool killed every Marvel character in a comic book with his name on it. Did you take that seriously? I didn't. Whatever they do is so they can sell comic books, movie tickets, merchandise, and these days, streaming videos. It's make-believe. But can I say, when he can just beat anybody up easily--the story is BORING. That's why he was given weaknesses, and enemies powerful enough to thwart him. It was never about him holding back, having some hidden level of power he inexplicably doesn't use when his life, and the lives of people he loves, are in danger.
There are reported instances of 'hysterical strength' that are based on somebody being in a deep state of fear, or rage. While science has some questions about the anecdotes relating to this, it's likely Superman, like anyone else, could get a bit stronger in such a state. But typically, he's depicted as achieving this higher power level while deadly calm. I don't buy it. But I don't have to. Because none of it is real, and I don't need it to be in order for me to enjoy it. When it's well-written and presented. Which I don't think this segment is. Just fanboy wanking. ;)

Super Man with code against killing and not using full power on almost all opponents is him holding back.
Plus him choosing not to take over the world is holding back.
The rest of holding back is writing inconsistency and plot holes. Original can’t fly can stop a locomotive massively weaker Superman as originally done got increased in power to point normal foe have no chance. And if he attacks all out without warning take out all Earth foe.
Super Man can only Beat Zod because without powers he is stronger and more combat trained and experienced after awhile.
Yes it is fictional critics are correct in pointing out inconsistencies caused by not holding writers to a set amount of power. This is an error in fiction writing and Stan Lee of Marvel back when in charge awarded Noprizes to all pointing out these errors. This is admitting they messed up but no real way to fix it when done. And spending a lot of money on extra employees to enforce constancy in a way to actually do it without going past Deadline costs to much with the huge amounts of projects underway. So again the Noprize idea was to say sorry but fans have to live with the error.
And of course no budget to actually award anything tangible but the comment in the response to letters the only prize you get so it No Reward given thus Noprize.
This errors would be greatly reduced without need to put out projects on deadline because writer with help could figure out how to achieve the goal of the plot without inconsistency a lot of the time.
They don’t write on basis of any change necessary as deliberate policy like you state. In fact this in part why DC did their total reboot to fix inconsistency caused near century of changes plus the immortal nature of characters in story.
Thus take the Stan Lee approach of by saying errors unavoidable enjoy it anyway especially as they on deadline and no one person can be expected to recall every rule set by prior writing or even their own. But inconsistency will try to be avoided when possible.
Note especially with movie projects where the Print person in charge does not have power over the movie production cause errors based on new view on character. Thus they actually made the movies their own Universes.
I will attack Novels though on messing up constancy with no deadline preventing this level of editing for a writers own characters inside their own work.
Although writing oneself into corner has doomed Game of Thrones being Finished.

@@milferdjones2573 You can easily write Superman as putting aside his no-kill code, and that's happened many times.
Nothing changes the fact their powers are made up, impossible to quantify, and btw--Omni-man doesn't have any abilities other than superstrength, flight, and I'd say invulnerability except Viltrumites get bloodied, broken, and downright eviscerated all the time. They are very tough, but hardly invincible. And there's a lot of them, which makes Omni-man less special. Most of the time, Superman is the only Kryptonian worth talking about.
Superman has a huge array of other abilities, most notably the ability to destroy an opponent from a distance with his heat vision.
And Omni-man is a copy. An evil shadow of the original. Copies are inherently weaker. Just commentary on the original.
Omni-man isn't even the central character of his own comic or TV show! He's there to provide a role model for Invincible to emulate or rebel against, and he mostly does the latter.
It's an interesting reboot, but that's all it is. When Omni-man is forgotten, replaced by some other reboot, Superman will still be the first and most influential superhero of all time. Even if the movies always suck. Maybe not the next one? We'll see. ;)

Equally troubling is the fact that Superman has not either used the technology in his Fortress of Solitude to come up with a cure against it, or to just have a cloaked Kryptonian drone just follow him around and counter Kryptonite attacks. If he just took a walk on the surface of the sun once a month, you would think that would get him to a greater power level. Then again, in All Star Superman, he was over exposed to the sun and became more powerful and expedited his own death.
It seems the writers need things like kryptonite to have a way of giving antagonists some chance against Superman. I still think there is more creative ways to make the stories interesting and challenge Superman without weaponizing kryptonite.

He can’t look past action and differentiate purpose; two people can do the same exact thing but for 2 completely different reasons and circumstances: Superman only kills those with malicious intent in order to protect others and put a stop to one’s endless violence; Joker kills just for the sake of making a mundane and unjustifiable point (humans being corrupt). Batman has put a stop to the Joker more times than anyone else in the universe. Without Batman, how many more people would the Joker have killed? And what about Superman? How many times has he himself spared the lives of killers? How long has Superman known of the Joker and his actions and still allowed him to live? When did Superman finally decide to stop the Joker for good? It was after the Joker cost Superman someone he really cared about, unlike the countless people the Joker has killed that Superman didn't care enough about to interfere with Gotham's system of justice. Superman's actions were transparently selfish.
Batman and Superman are both vigilantes; both acting unilaterally outside the law because they both recognize that no civil system can do what they can. Effectively, both of them have always been criminals. But Batman at least tries not to place himself and his ends wholly above the system and establish himself as its dictator. Would you want any one person doing that in real life? If not, why would you want someone capable of single-handedly obliterating the planet doing it? Especially when that someone has demonstrated a tendency to be more self-serving than noble.
Batman has correctly determined that Superman can't be trusted with the kind of power he usurps. Apparently, a fictional character is wiser than many in these comments.

Even if the person "deserves to die" Batman has no right to be judge, jury, and executioner or he'd be no different from the new Superman.
What people seem to fail to realize is that the real person to blame is whatever judge or jury presided over the Joker's criminal hearings and whatever defense attorney managed to convince them of a reduced sentence. If we assume that the death penalty exists in these universes, then it would be irrational for any criminal like Joker to get anything other than the death penalty after what he has done. Batman is not a police officer, but someone volunteering their time and money to clean up the streets. The corrupt politicians and justice system in Gotham are the true culprits. If Batman ever did kill, even if it was justified, they would hunt him down and treat him the same as a criminal. You should see Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 & 2. Great example of what would happen if Batman acted on his own rather than within (albeit on the edge of) the system.

I'm remembering the scene in the original Superman movie with Christopher Reeve starring in it, that Superman found Lois dead because she was crushed in her car after falling into a hole created by an earthquake. He managed to save everybody else but couldn't get to her in time to save her. Angrily, he shoots off into space and proceeds to fly several times around the Earth, causing time itself to go backwards. By doing this, he prevented the disasters that happened and managed to 'rescue' Lois from her car problems. An easy fix for him, of course.

When superman decides to take them in a more secured place without killing them as what batman wants. Batman still disagrees to take them away from gotham which makes batman a hidden villain in the series. @@matthewjuarbe5826And I say Superman did the right thing as a matter of fact he should have torn joker to pieces in front of harley and it's batman who is naive and weak. He should have killed joker and be done with the problem, but nope he would rather see his friend turn into a villain and suffer the trauma of losing his wife and child. Superman did what batman should have done a long time ago and that was to end jokers life, who the fuck is batman to stand in the way of Superman. Honestly, I find batman really annoying I mean what does he know about losing a loved he is just a rich brat who could replace anyone with anything and not to mention his family is broken 😂😂😂

@@matthewjuarbe5826no bro, you backward as hell. "Don't kill murderers and terrorists after theyve killed thousands of people, to stop them from killing more." Is basically what you said. You have no idea of the real world and the pain it inflicts. Batman is an enabling sucker, who is too wrapped up in his moral code to see that he actually ALLOWS evil to flourish. That makes Batman an accomplice to mass murder. He's weak, and doesn't have the will power to do what's needed. Which is actually STOP evil.

@@navikeshnaidu6958This is all supposed to make you angry. The entire reason all of this is happening is because of the justice system on Earth. It's not anyone's fault in particular at this point, it's society's fault. Sure the Joker is mostly to blame for taking the actions and being a psychotic piece of garbage, but he is a product of a society that is cold and heartless towards its people. The Law doesn't serve the people because they are bought and paid for by the rich and powerful.. which lets them and their friends skate on by accountability and even walk away from it all at times. People like the Joker get to play the mental illness card, something society fought to consider when sentencing criminals. What we have to consider is we've never seen anyone do the things the Joker has in real life, so it's tough to say how our justice system would react to him. I think they are just going for an exaggerated version of what the US justice system is like. They are trying to drive the point home that the justice league is truly for the people because they abide by all of their rules. If they don't, they could be considered a rogue organization and not a justice league. As individuals going from heros to vigilantes, which is against the law. I also wonder what the laws are particularly in the DC universe for Gotham and Metropolis.. for instance mutual combat laws and self defence. Not every state has a self defence law in the US in real life.. so I imagine it could be the same in DCU. My thoughts are if Superman didn't kill the Joker for this one though, he would've been executed. The nuke sealed that coffin for him. This was where the Joker died no matter what, you can't come back from that

It's called "Overzealous prosecution " prosecutors knowingly charged people with charges way over what they really did hoping that they're stupid enough to take a chump plea. Knowing full well the people didn't do what they're charged with and knowing full well that they cannot convict them of the charges but they use fear in ignorance to get people to cop out to a deal. Prosecutors have all of the money and all of the experts and all of the know-how with no oversight whatsoever with what they charge people with. Corruption is built into the system

It feels to me like it all stemmed from that one Justice League episode, "A Better World". Great episode, but it seems to have inspired a lot of laziness in the reuse of "good guys gone bad" stories ever since. The true legacy of the Justice Lords, it seems.
Yet enough people still seem to get excited by the shock value, irony, and sometimes moral greyness of so-called superheroes acting like villains, and so we keep seeing it in other fictional superhero universes too.

This story is not realistic. Me (the Flash) and Superman are not that stupid. We're among the smartest people on Earth. Superman would have sensed any Kryptonite entering his lungs and not continue until it was out and not putting him at risk in a fight. I would have not only sensed danger ahead of time with my spider sense like ability but my speed force/phasing ability would have protected me in autopilot mode even if I didn't active it on my own.

I think the problem with these story-lines is that ultimately the morality of batman is very child-like and rigid - in real life there wouldnt be any sort of moral question posed by eliminating someone like the joker with capital punishment. The moral tales of stories like this from DC are too simplistic and are occasionally absurd.
