On January 11, 2014, two-thirds of the ancient city of Shangri-La, which has a history of more than 1,300 years, was burned down. This disaster was called a replica of the 2013 Lijiang Ancient City fire. Now what we see is the “new ancient city” that has been rebuilt in its original appearance.
I m so glad you guys actually went to Shangri-la! It is very unique indeed. It is actually already part of the Tibetan plateau, that’s why the culture there is so different from other places in Yunnan. Shangri-la also has some of the best wines in China such as Aoyun which is owned by LVMH. It will be so cool if you guys continue the journey to Deqin county with magnificent snow mountains and deep valley which is about 3hr from Shangri-la city by bus.
I just don’t understand why mixue couple don’t have a million subscribers or at least half. Tbh they deserve it guys. Let’s make this happen. 😊 Shangri la is a beautiful place especially at night when everything comes to life. I might be traveling there next year. Would love to try the yak dishes. Anyway thanks 🙏 Taz & Libby for bringing us along with you. Keep enjoying and hope to watch your Tibetan video soon. Take care! Cheers!
Thanks for the intro to lijang, dali and now shangrila. It ll Be my next destination so to speak. The China post shop was to me rather epic, a shop seen no way else in this world. Imagine a shop dedicated to posting. A very healthy concept.
I love the BGM at the beginning! 14:40 the boss lady speaks fluent English! 23:30 Love the Tibetan dance! 27:00 Cute postal office! 45:00 what a cheerful town! Please do not make us wait too long for the next vlog!
Shanon and Alan also have tasted the yak milk yogurt topping with some barley pastry in that small shop when they were in shangrila. The shop owner, a Tibetan lady, speaks very good English. I reckon you have set up relationship already with other vlogers from irland and the uk( for example, two mad explorers). I noticed you are following each other on Instagram❤🎉
I recognize that nomadic woman with the yogurt from another travel RUclipsr's video. I cannot remember which since I watch so many channels like this. Anyone else recognize her?
Love you all! It would be great if you could go on a road trip in China! You could easily get sponsorship from Chinese automakers. I'm really looking forward to such a series!
Hi Taz, I saw you inserted the chopsticks into the rice and made it stand straight on the rice. It is actually a big taboo for the Chinese table manner because it resembles incense sticks which we did for the dead people.
I think the shangri-la you imagined existed 30+ years ago but now any place with a high speed train stop will be developed and have tons of tourists 😅. china made an effort to link every village with a road and provide electricity and internet as part of their poverty alleviation plan. a lot of once untouristed places became hugely popular nowadays especially with social media so some places once very remote and poor are now doing quite well.
In ancient China, there was a belief that our civilization encompassed the entire world. This perspective led to the concept of uniting China being referred to as uniting 天下 (everything beneath the sky). With its vast expanse, China was seen as a self-sustaining entity, distinct from the rest of the world, particularly in its cultural dimensions, that's why it seems so different from rest of the world.
We just returned from there week's ago, still dream about it. Pudacuo National apark is also a must to visit, it's first national park of China, out of 10 in total.
No, no, no...This is not a pagoda, it's a stupa, a Tibetan construction that serves to honor some important figure of Buddhism, some bodhisattva, some Lama. There may be human remains inside it. Respect..
the last time I visited Shangri-La, I think it was in 2013, I had the most delicious pizza in the old town, and met the most gorgeous man😁i've ever met. He was wearing a very cute panda ushanka and probably waiting for his girlfriend (or boyfriend) to finishing shopping, very cute and shy, made me wanna give him a hug and a kiss😂. Anyway, it was a very enjoyable trip, unfortunately the whole town was burnt and unrecoverable a couple of month later. The old town today was rebuilt after that, but the legendary pizza place was gone for ever.....
Thank you for showing us the true Shangri-La, which is completely absent of any Western, China-demonizing rhetoric. Tibet is going to be cold. I hope you guys brought Winter clothes.
Now is the best and worst season to go to Tibet. The best season is the off-season, with fewer tourists, less crowded attractions, low costs, sunny weather and less rain, and high visibility on the snow-capped mountains; the worst season is the coldest season of the year, with heavy snow blocking roads, many lakes frozen, some attractions closed, and many restaurants and hotels closed, so you need to be more careful.
46:31“Promise me that you won't wander around in the middle of the night. Don't let yourself go. It will break my heart ” 😂This is a Chinese song that I sang at a junior high school concert.
£28k for a brand new EV!!! Such a shame the UK followed the US orders to put 100% tariff on Chinese EVs otherwise I could've finally afford an EV but oh well clearly they don't care about environment, looks like it will still be petrol for next car.
No, UK did not follow the US to put tariff on Chinese EVs. The UK government had already stated that they are not going to follow. You guys will get more Chinese EVs soon.
If you and your spouse plan to travel to Tibet this season, it may not be the best choice. You will need to do a lot of preparation work due to the unpredictable weather, extreme cold, low oxygen levels in the highlands, sparse population, and inconvenient transportation. You must take good care of yourself and avoid getting sick, as it can be a serious problem in the highlands!
I see that some foreign RUclipsrs have already opened accounts on Chinese social media platforms, with even higher views than RUclips. Have you opened them yet? If there is anything, please let us know.
Shangri-La looks even more beautiful at night ❤ we’re now getting ready for the big adventure after Shangri-La 🥰

You can speak to the car to order it to do some functions like Navigation or open the windows or change AC temperature etc
That’s so cool 😎
I thought that was a little happy dance there with the Tibetan yak yoghurt and barley biscuits!
Good job!

the ev you saw is 追光 (means “Chase the Light”)
