After Shangri-La, you can go to Tibet. It's very near.
If you have a chance, I recommend you to go to a few places that you may like. In Guilin, Guangxi, you can take a cruise on the Li River. The scenery on both sides is very beautiful. Sanya, Hainan Province, Sanya is the only tropical island in China. It has beautiful tropical scenery. Usually people in northern China like to go to Sanya in winter. Qiandao Lake in Zhejiang and nearby small cities also have beautiful scenery with Jiangnan characteristics. I wish you have a great trip in China.
if you go to Shangri-La, do visit Pudacuo national park. it's so amazing. then you can go to Lugu lake. it's even more beautiful and peaceful than Earhai lake.

I can promise you one thing: if you had visited China a decade ago, your experience would have been worlds apart from what it is today. I lived here from 2010 to 2014 and recently returned after ten years away, and honestly, it feels like an entirely different country. Watching just the first few minutes of your video was enough to strike a deep chord in me. The vibrant, inviting places you showcased? Those simply didn’t exist back then.
Back in 2010, restaurants were often dull, with little effort put into atmosphere or presentation. They were functional, yes, but rarely enticing. Now? It’s like stepping into a completely reimagined world. Every restaurant seems to ooze professionalism and creativity, each one a feast for the eyes as much as for the palate.
It’s incredible how much has changed in just a decade. The growth is palpable-something you can see, feel, and taste. It’s left me reflecting on how far things have come and how much I missed witnessing during those transformative years.

i m from Hk. live in Dali. recommend you go to have hot spring in Er Yuan 洱源 for a short relax and 诺邓古村 for exploring about salt possessing from wells and its hams before going to Lijiang.

Guys I am so happy that you started to visit the countries part of China because I am one of the people who suggested you should explore more the countryside of China when I start to follow you guys earlier on your China series. Love your work as always. And I dare to say that you are getting better and better, you have done more research before you visit the new destination, I learn a lot from your new ventures.
One moment you were in Zhengzhou, the next you are thousands of miles away in Yunnan. Perfect indication that you two are truly masters of china travel.
Edit: those writings on the walls are saying those houses are going to be torn down and rebuilt. And yeah most 'ancient towns' in china are more or less similar except those less known gems. That's why we also love to travel to places like Yunnan/Guizhou/Guangxi etc for some uniquely local flavors of things to explore.

in the 16th to 17th minute of the video, where the walls of residential areas have writings on them, it says, unsafe houses, stay away. Probably the houses are too old, and they didn't pass safety inspection.
China built a lot of high-speed trains and highways to make travel easy, this is how even the people in the very out-laying rural area can "share the wealth" with the better developed zones. Not just for tourism, their primary products can be shipped swiftly all around the country. 👍

How I wish to be young again. I had been to many parts of China but Yunan Province had deluded me! The vibe and architecture is quite unique! What I like most about this particular town you visited is devoid of the high rise modern buildings and Malls, simply attractive with it's original streets and alleyways and markets etc. Nice!

Yunnans towns have more of a South East Asia look about them, I spend quite a bit of time on BAIDU MAPS as they have street view so I can look around little places I find by zooming in, from what I've seen I think it's the most beautiful Province in China.

Go to Lijiang and see if you can get the cable cart tickets to the Jade Dragon Mountain. it’s a pity if you do not see the snow capped mountains of the Tibetan Plateau. Lijiang is like Dali, touristy but more beautiful. A small villages near by called Shuhe is like Xizhou, quiet and pretty.
