Great review! I’m in the market for a GPS laser range finder. I’m currently testing the Z82 and this one is in the mail. One bummer is having to pair to the app to use the GPS. I use the Arccos system, so I am paired to that while playing to keep my data and score…so not sure this one will work for me if I have to have the app running while playing. As for the charging cord, while on a traditional laser range finder a battery will last years, not so with GPS powered units. They suck up energy big time. You’d be carrying batteries with you in your bag if they made them battery powered. The Z82 is also a charge cord. The good thing is that it’s USB-C. I usually carry an extra battery charger in my cart for my phone anyway, so this isn’t a big deal for me. Plan to test the SL2 as well to see which I prefer…I see that Bushnell used to make a hybrid laser/GPS unit years ago, but it no longer shows up on their site…do you know why?
Yeah I never used the Bushnell Hybrid, but they've discontinued it, so assume it just didnt sell. If you use Arccos, and you want to go with a GPS rangefinder, I'd probably lean towards the R1. The Garmin is a much more involved device, and you tend to spend more time using the rangefinder and in the app. With Arccos also going, it just results in a lot of time on your devices. The R1 isnt as feature heavy as Z82, but also makes it a little more user friendly. Just keep in mind, in order to use either with Arccos, you may need to use Arccos Link. But I dont know that for sure.
Great analysis. Looking forward to your review of the Shot Scope Pro LX+ and seeing how it stacks up against the R1. Seems like it’s more of a direct competitor than the Garmin based on features/price point.
Thanks for your reviews! I've been contemplating getting a rangefinder for years, but the $$ has kept me away. I found your webpage and it is SO helpful. Great reviews, detailed and straight forward. I'm between the NX10 and R1. It seems you prefer the NX10, is that accurate?
Yeah both are great devices! I personally would lean towards the NX10, but if the features of the R1 appeal to you, then it's fantastic, works great, and is well-worth picking up.
Most golf carts have USB ports now, so it's not that big of an issue. Thank you for the video, was looking for a rangefinder for the last couple of days, and glanced through this one. Would've never known what it couod do had I not seen this video.
Assuming that money isn't an issue or that all range finders cost $250 (via ebay auction for exmaple). What would you recommend between Precision Pro R1 and Bushnell Pro XE?
If you don’t use the Bluetooth features, how much longer does the battery last? I’m wondering if I can get the same features as a NX9 and more respectable battery life (greater than 2 rounds) and turn on the features when I’m ready to manage the battery more actively.
Awesome man! Thank you for the reply and great reviews! Liked and subscribed. Gonna bookmark the R1 and wait to hear your review of that upcoming shot scope you mentioned.
@@breakingeighty Actually, if your phone goes into lock mode, you have to unlock and reopen the app. Also, if you leave the rangefinder on the card and carry your phone to the tee box, the connection will drop and you'll have to reconnect to the R1. The app itself is close to worthless. Tracking is clumsy. You can start tracking a shot, and if you forget to stop tracking, there's no way to edit the endpoint. Really screws up your stats. So, if you have to have the app open, and on the correct course tee, the GPS in the rangefinder is useless. All the other goodies in the app aren't really worth paying $300+ for a rangefinder. BTW this has been my experience using the app/rangefinder with an Android. JM2C
My questions come with the wind assist which is the only real thing it offers that others don't. Does it update directly to the numbers in the rangefinder or do you have to use the app to take advantage?
Good day, Breaking Eighty. I noticed your excellent video and am impressed with your amazing sharing of products. We'd love to collab on a new product experience we're working on, what would be the best email to contact you?

Me too! Taking it out this week.

@@breakingeighty Amazon has the R1 on sale for 269.99 vs the NX10 at 279.99. Would the R1 be a better value at that price?

On Amazon right now, $223.99.
Thank you for the review, just picked one up with your code
Thanks Tyler! Really appreciate it. Let me know what you think!

Have you seen/review the Voice Caddie SL2 it is also another GPS/Rangefinder hybrid and I am curious on your thoughts?
Just recently learned about it. Haven't used it, but if I do I'll get a review up.

That's a great question and one I haven't really tested, but will report back when I'm able!
Do you need to constantly open the app during the match to use all the features or do you just sync it up before the round and you're all done?
Nah you just sync it up, and as long as the app is tracking the round, its good to go. No need to keep pulling your phone out.

Can’t decide between this and the Garmin Z82
This covers my thoughts pretty in depth about the Z82: breakingeighty.com/garmin-z82-rangefinder-review
USB charging on this device is actually an awesome feature.
Not a big deal for me. I can just charge while on my way to the golf course!
I’ve literally lost 2 v5 shifts from leaving it on the carts!
You're not the only one!
Code not working? All caps?
I just tried it, seems to be working for me? Which product did you try it on?
