Lately I have become some what hooked on rebuilding motorcycles which are in very poor condition. So when I spotted this neglected example of an old 2-stroke Honda CR 125, I could just tell it was perfect as a restoration project for the channel!

A proper project and we will pay silly money just get our hands on the project bikes can't wait for the mini series of the restoration of the cr125
That is a cracking project bike, relatively easy to work on. And the bits that are required aren`t astronomically priced. And as you said, 70`s and 80`s two strokes are going up almost weekly. I have just bought a Suzuki GT750. 😎
Cwipes… that wasn’t cheap… but… BUT… it will be a great project to follow, and in theory should be a lot easier than the Blackbird… I said in theory 😊
You don’t know anything about these bikes do you? £1100 is nothing for it.

£1100 brings a tear to my eye. What I could buy here second hand with 21,000,000 rupiah , plus how much you spent on fuel 700 miles ???? But , I love the styling of the CR and CR are my initials so I would really love one ! Can't wait to see the finished project !

Kinda glad yours is a 90s model, I don’t need any competition for the 2001 parts that I need for mine 😅. They’re rare as rocking horse 💩 and everyone knows it so they charge top dollar

Best of luck to you. I’ve restored few of these 80s and 90s mx and enduro. The most recent was an IT. You need a lot of time and money and it’s not going to worth much if you don’t use NOS parts. To get this looking like new, you’ll pour at least 2.5k. Those plastics can be saved just need to spend a lot of time sanding and dry polishing. And wet paint the frame and sericote the engine for that oem look.
Beware of how difficult the Swing arm Pivot Bolt will be to remove.
Looking forward to the build. I'm looking to do the same on a project but everyone wants top money for barn finds

Make sure you change the selector forks. When you change the main bearings do not bash them out. Clean the casings as best as you can and put them in the oven at about 120°C for 30 mins (I'm serious) they'll then tap lightly out. Do the same in reverse for fitting the new ones. Bearings and crank go in the freezer before fitting.
That is absolutely perfect advice. Thats exactly how i rebuilt my 1987 Husqvarna AE430. Thats a automatic gearbox so no selector forks lol 😁

PLEASE, please do this bike the justice it deserves and restore it properly. Get the frame blasted and finished properly, strip and rebuild the engine in a clean environment using genuine parts.
It should make a fantastic series and there’s no reason why it can’t look as good as new if done right.

Not really a bad price in this market 🫣but there’s a few quid ya need to spend there mate … and I’ve done many projects in my time. From bikes boats cars vans lawnmowers etc.. the list goes on! But if you have patience time and money you will be alright. 😉 enjoy I’ll be watching 😃
As I said in the last episode mate, invest in a cheap lift. I'm tired of working on the ground and doing my back in.

Easy resto ,do the rolling chassis first ,blast and powder coat frame, recon the front forks ,new headstock bearings, recon or rew rear shock from hagons,then it will look mint!!
two strokes are about the easiest engines you can find to work on because of the few moving parts within the engine. due to their inherently bad lubrication system they have to be rebuilt every 100 hours or so anyway so taking it apart hopefully wont be too hard. i think you'll find no huge issue inside the bike that cant be replaced easily like a piston or a top end. looking forward to this one!
100 hours. What. My RM 125 had new rings at 10 hours and new piston and rings at 20 hours.

Good choice, great learning curve for you, me 2 strokes wouldn’t touch them, but very it’s very collectible bike So I can’t see you losing out, my advice go for the stock look ,don’t try to put your own stamp on it. All the best 🤞

I know the feeling I recently drove over 650 miles over 12 hours to collect a 2003 milie R. Well worth it though.
You are brave for paying 1.1k for that! Nothing stopping you bringing it back to it’s former glory and you may even walk away with a hefty profit.
Go for it hopefully you can get the parts.nothing like 80s 90s bikes..don't like the new stuff got no character..

Crikey now I don't want to sound negative but that's a bag of S#*t and it wasn't even cheap!! I hope your not thinking you'll be able to sell it for more than your going spend on it? hopefully you will break even depending on how far down the rabbit hole you go.... Good luck
Not going to lie, that bike screams previously stolen, based on the dodgy quick frame paint job, mis-matched plastics and no seat cover, all things that could quickly disguise how it once looked!
Quite possibly I did think that...at least the bike is now in good hands
