- in this upload, we delve deeply into the restoration of this old, forgotten and very broken 1991 Honda CR125. It had been long neglected and left severely damaged and so our focus is to rebuild this dirt bike to the best it can be by completely disassembling the engine, breaking it down into its individual components.

That was painful , if you get that back together you have my respect! 🏍️🇮🇲
Got my respect either way getting stuck in the way he does.
I like the way you keep smashing everything with a Manchester screw driver (a big hammer)
Just goes to show how easy this mechanical stuff is
That crank is now TOAST, so you'll need a replacement, along with a complete gasket, seal and bearing set. A manual is a MUST purchase, 👍.
Agree first thing I would get is a manual and check what tools I needed
Why do you say the crank is Toast? That can be saved. Press it apart and if the puller damaged the ends so what. It can be re machined. I’ve salvaged worse.
Can't stand it see him using no plastic bags for the small parts and no clue of orientation of the parts. At least not showing us. Washer 5:32 he probably lost in the grass 😂
"Safety pin"?? It's a cotter pin.
@@ziondanny7081 we call them R clips due to there shape
Nice one! I love little old dirt bikes, had a couple of DT's in the past.
Great to see you making yourself vulnerable as a mechanical noob in front of us all with such humility, hats off for that and great to see such a variety of bikes too! Keep em coming mate, I'm only in Sussex so I might pop over for a ride out next summer :)
Thanks 👍
Hi mate, I'm pretty clued up on rebuilding bike engines I've got 13 years experience, been doing it for a long time mainly Honda's, the gear box is easier to put back together with a parts diagram it makes your life a lot easier and the mushroomed crank you couldn't have helped the puller did due to its tighteness and ignore the mechanic police everyone messes up along the way but it's always fixable so ignore the idiots saying "painful watch" I've snapped plenty of bolts and casings when I first started out. Keep going and drop me a message if you need advice.
It was painful hahahaha not that I have ever done that .... Cough cough cough ( a 1986 CR 250 back in the day ,,,, )
Need more ppl like u
Crank going in the bin with that mushroomed end then. A for effort , love it.
I dont get the keyboard warrior hate here. You're admitting that you are a novice. At least you're having a go rather than criticising others for any little mistake. You do desperately need the manual and diagram though. New selector forks are highly recommended in addition to the usual bearings and seals etc
A better way to get fly wheel off is to do the puller up and leave it overnight, the constant pressure finally gets them to come off. It’s not a good idea to keep cranking in the puller with a long bar as you will just break something.
This level of tear down scares me. Good luck dude
Good video mate.
I've watched a guy, who laughed at you.... how right he was
can't wait for the next one
basically you're me... plus balls, hope and money to waste
When using the flywheel puller, you should hit the centre bolt of the puller, NOT the flywheel! Have the engine held solidly (best done whilst still in the frame), and then hit it SOLIDLY with a big lump hammer, rather than a hammer made for nails. But you did it, though the belled end (ooer) will need some attention.....
Alan milnyard an abs wizard could watch him at work day an night I know ma way around most 2s I prefer em if your doin a rebuild a big table ideal just lay everything out as u strip them then reverse when u rebuild and please have plenty o patience cause you'll need it an no banging and walloping plenty o lube do the trick oh keep your mobile and record it as well believe me youll get some buzz when finished👋
Got me a 1994 cr125 and a 2002 cr80rb I rescued from a field for 150 bucks. Cant wait to get them fixed up
You r one brave man make sure u torque every fixture to manafacturers spec u replacing everything internally bearings the whole sha bang take your time do once check double check triple check mines done 8yr ago engine was ok but a don't trust ok it's better and cheaper in the long run all I've done now is replace piston still sweet as a nut😅
Bro just stumbled across your channel because you’re rebuilding a CR125 like I am 👊🏼 subbed straight away! excited to dive in to your other vids
I've gotten so used to watching Allen Millyard taking bike engines apart that I'd forgotten how difficult it actually is for the layman.
We all start somewhere 😇
@@BikesofRye there's definitely motivation for doing stuff you're not sure about when it's on RUclips isn't it, because at least you're getting paid for the content your making from the trials and tribulations. That's what gets me through some of the stuff on my channel too.
You'd like him as a neighbour 😂
I enjoy watching these bike rebuilds and always curious on what different people can get for a 1000$.
Hi there it’s great your learning and getting to grips with everything. Just one word of advice get some impact sockets for your impact gun the chrome vanadium sockets from your socket set are not designed to withstand the percussion from the gun and can explode.
These restorations must be costing you a fortune. I hope you'tr making good 'bank' from RUclips. Social Blade estimates your annual earnings at between £512 - £8.2K. I hope it's nearer the 8K figure.
You'd have been better off putting some heat on that flywheel first to make it expand a bit. Whacking it does pretty much absolutely nothing...
A nice free online manual for every bike is the spare parts manual. They show photos / sketchs of the parts in the order they get assembled. But yes a haynes manual is very handy
How on earth to you remember how it all goes back together if you have no experience?
£1100 for the bike ? seems steep mate , got a running r6 for £1000 with not much wrong with it . hope this 125 doesnt cost you alot to fix
Get some fishing wire for putting the gearbox back together, helps hold everything when you put casings togther and then you just pull it out once youre done.
i have a CR250r clean but needs some TLC is it worth the time and effort and money> ( the tank has petrol brown staining )
i dont know ... ps know Cr s inside and out ! the 92 was when I left Honda !
You should be able to find a PDF Haynes manual for free if you search about. Save a few quid. 👍🏻
Just did a flywheel on an RD350 so I feel your pain on that one as it was an absolute……..😮
You are a braver man than i am all that looks like a specialist job to me .I hope you haven't bitten off more than you can chew swallow and regurgitate to get that all put back together and running again ....i can feel a few headaches and a big acud reflux coming on good luck
Brave? It's just stupid to take an engine apart without a clue
Built many of these bud I'm sure u will sort it ur proper mechanic now u have brought and engine in side the house 😂 love it
Fingers crossed! And yes proper mechanic can you tell my girlfriend that too so she let's me off 🤣
Hahaha lol I'm not that brave bud I used the dishwasher for a few parts lol that didn't go down well 😂
Well done can I suggest you buy a Honda manual it will help massively when you rebuild the engine
I see you're a master of deconstructing an engine, but can you put it back together? :D
If he puts that back together and it starts im finna subscribe 💯
Best of luck, it should be a fun experience, and yeah, get a Haynes Manual, not only for diagrams, but also for correct torque values for all those nuts and bolts.
Ah yes torque settings good point
Great vid Rye cant wait to see it fully working back together in my opinion best thing to get is a Haynes manual shows you how everything is put together
Do you know if it explains how the gearbox goes back together?
@@BikesofRye yea I have got one myself for my yzfr125 and it fully explains how the gearbox and the rest of the engine goes back together and I would assume it should be the same for the Honda 125 I paid 29.99 for a book version and online version
This is terrible, hammer breaker bar... NO.
Great content yet again. Nothing wrong with making mistakes in the way you do things or the tooling you dont have. The point is your doing it and learning.
The proof is in your work so far. YOU Actually got the blackbird on the road. This will get up and running as well. Well done for pushing and challenging yourself. Cant wait for the next video and future projects. 🙏👌👍
Never hammer on flywheel
Well done mate that you are again, just having a go. Being an ex-mechanic though I get goose pimples when I see you whacking stuff with that lump hammer 😮
You'd be much better off using a copper hammer. But I'm loving your content!
8:40 STOP!!! She's already dead.
Is this a real video or what
Buy some takeaway containers and a blow torch to help you take off those stubborn bolts or nuts. Can't wait bro for the next EP!
That impact driver is for screws in wood not mechanical nuts and bolts, I have the same one and I used it to get broken exhaust studs out of my bandit 1200 engine😂 I wouldn't recommend it for really torqued up bolts 👍
What a mission! That's definitely out of my comfort zone, and I do like playing with my bikes...
Well done.
Always tricky to reassemble but look at the parts diagrams Fowlers etc have as they show exploded pics.
Crankshaft is scrap, bearings can be loctited back into the casings. You need a proper manual for the rebuild. Dont use the impact gun to tighten small bolts back up.
Congratulations on getting an impact wrench - you'll find it invaluable if you're planning a lot of strip-downs (don't use it for tightening though!). Although you can get by using your regular sockets, you might want to invest in some dedicated impact sockets, which are usually chrome-moly and black, rather than the silver, chrome-vanadium ones from your ratchet set. The cr-mo sockets are ductile and designed to withstand the wrench's vibrations. The cr-v sockets are more rigid and aren't designed to take the impacts that the wrench delivers. They can shatter and could also cause premature wear to the wrench's anvil because they don't properly absorb the shocks. (The same goes for any adapters/extensions you use with the impact gun.)
Love it, great content.
That’s definitely beyond my skill level, but that’s the point. You’re pushing yourself, trying stuff you haven’t done before. Ignore the keyboard warrior experts/critics on here.
East to forget that once upon a time they didn’t know how to do this either. Some manners and a bit of encouragement would be better than criticism.
Keep going, loving this.
First part to buy after purchasing the bike is a repair manual. Great video. Look forward to the next episode
It's easier to split the cases from the primary drive side and tap the input shaft as you go so the cases halves come apart straight. The collar behind the sprocket can corrode on to the output shaft, and the bearing that it traps usually has a retaining plate keeping it in the case. Going from the primary side both shafts will come out with the other case half and you can disassemble the output shaft to get to the retaining plate if the collar is solid on the output shaft.
Cover in release spray, leave the puller on under tension overnight and should be alot easier to remove in the morning 👍
Flipping’eck that engine is a mess… the very best of luck sir
Better you than me man. It is a headache just watching you do it. All the best.
Use heat on rust makes the parts come away easier instead of bashing the cases not good when the bearing are dropping out of the cases
My wife got me that driver set, I love it. It's shocking how it works for its size.
You are a very brave man, good luck can't wait for the rest.
🫣
No stress, this very platform has 1000s of how to's
When r u getting a garage 🙄
Someday.... 😔
That cylinder head looks pretty clean. That is a win
You got Gonads.Good luck😮
Will you be doing a costings video on the Blackbird?
I will be for sure
11:16 Shifter selector fork?
Where is the oil? Did u drain it ?
There was no oil to drain 🤣
😮
I'll take it of your hands for £250, ill collect tomorrow.
£250 cash yeah
I think personally everyone has a duty to ensure sanity prevails regarding the valuation of used goods , there is nothing special or rare about CR 125s and I see it with a lot of bikes Yamaha RD s are prime example , it's a 200 quid scraper project that's all it is. .
Think you are missing the point , he,s making money from the content not the bike 😉
I don't think I've missed any points at all .
Bore off mate
The market decides who pays what. If someone people are willing to pay 3 grand for it, then that’s what it’s worth.
It's really the nostalgia that is attached to these bikes. Plus you can now race these older 125 in what is called an evo class. This bike restored can fetch around £4000
First!
You're a much braver man than I mate!! Really interesting stuff.
😁Big Kudos for what You've done so far.
