- This time on RRC Restoration I'm taking on the challenge of restoring this barn find 1990 Honda VFR400 NC30. As you can see from the video its in very poor condition and needs a lot of love to get it back to a condition where its deserving of its legendary status. this is going to be a multi part series as there is just so much work to be done and getting parts is very hard these days so doing it all in a single episode would be impossible unless you were willing to wait a year haha.

Restoration Of A Ruined Legend - Honda VFR 400 NC30
You, Sir, are the most terrifyingly methodical and thorough mechanic I have ever seen; I can't wait to see the clean-up and restoration phases of this wonderful little bike!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you are looking forward to the series :)
Now *this* is the sort of bike build series I want to see. And likely many others, these bikes were a huge hit and most adult bikers know them well. Looking forward to seeing it back on the road.
If he gets a dry patch waiting for parts I wouldn't mind seeing him restore that jack, poor thing has seen some action.
Really glad to hear you are excited to see the project unfolding :) as for the jack yeah it defo needs some love its lifted plenty of tonnage in its lifetime
I am a huge VFR fan, and the RVF400 is what started it all for me. Can't wait to watch this!! 👍👍👍
Glad to have you along for the ride my friend :)
The joy was already high, but it jumped off the scale when the coffee break Goldeneye segment came on!! 😍👍📈
Glad to see my favorite Scotsman is back! I was beginning to worry that some horrible fate had befallen you. Now I see my worries were indeed true :) Good luck with that disaster sir. Luckily for all of us, it will still be very enjoyable to watch, regardless of what transpires.
Cheers, Sev
Cheers Sev, Glad to be back :)
vfr400 nc30 was my first proper bike, watched this a few weeks ago and as a result am now the proud owner of a knackered old vfr400 nc30 project. Will be watching closely lol!.
Perfection in 2/3 scale… stunning machines and worth every second of the invested time. Just picked up myself a ZXR750H to do a full resto on. I’ve done a few before, including a ZXR previously. Your work is inspiring.
Couldn't agree more! :), ah that's a very nice bike i hope your restoration of it goes smoothly :)
So glad this is a multi episode strip and build. Could watch these sort of transformations all day long. Eagerly awaiting the next instalment.
You make it look so easy! The nuts on the downpipes, on VTR that was a two day battle
Thank you, yeah i was dreading them i was just waiting on the stud shearing flush with the head lol
Hell yes! REALLY excited to see how this one goes! What a cool bike
Thank you, glad you are looking forward to it :)
Fantastic motorcycle. Its one of the most beautiful bikes ever built. Great V4 Sound. I own a vfr 750, from 1992 RC 36/1. With one preowner and 108.000 km in Original condition.
Great Video. Greetings from Austria.
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment :)
Been watching you for a long time, It’s nice to see you’re becoming a little more comfortable with showing yourself on camera. It adds to the appeal, as viewers, we can relate to a real person. Thanks for all your efforts to entertain us.
I love your videos! No music, no distractions, just top notch work that’s mesmerizing and addictive. Keep the vids coming, mate!
You're a legend for just thinking about taking on this challenge. My head hurts just looking at all the mixed bag of bolts and screws and what not.
You only got two options with something like this. You either go all in and strip everything to pieces and do things proper, OR you dip the whole thing in chocolate and pray someone will take it off your hands for free...
Life is too short for this type of project for me. Bless you for having the stamina to try it.
what a classic bike, looking forward to seeing this fully restored to its original condition, tragic to see this iconic bike in such a state.
You are more than up to the task, cannae wait for the final reveal!
Its defo an iconic wee bike, I've been after one for years and thought you know what I'm going to restore one for you guys that's why its taken so long for this video as i was struggling to get one. its going to be awesome to get to the end of this project and see it showroom fresh again :)
@@RRCRestoration these small VFR's from early 90's are really sought after...as with other so called "Grey Import" bikes from Japan home market...i owned 2 Japan market bikes...a CB1 400 and then a Super4 400...that was the quickest disassembly of a bike i've ever seen...and i'm so eager for the next installment...i've got my KH250B for another project if you like Kawasaki triple strokers...they're quite rare now...and i'm sure viewers would like to see a professional restore of one to your usual high standard...Mark in London
You are a lucky man - no broken studs or stripped threads/heads of bolts. Looking forward to this taking shape
I think this restoration is going to take quite a few episodes! As far as I am concerned, the more the merrier. I always liked these bikes and also the bigger version (750 & 800). looking forward to the series.
Yeah for such a small package there is soo much work to be done to get it into tip top condition again but the plus side of that is plenty of interesting content for you guys ;)
I owned a rc24 and loved it ... Sadly i crashed in to a car .
I own a gsxr 600 but thinking of looking for a vfr to join
I love my vfr800
VFR 400R NC30 is a mini VFR 750R RC30 not of the sport tourer varities
One of the best bikes ever made! I’ve 2 RVF400s and love them both
Great to see and can't wait to see the next episode on this restoration! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching :)
Love VFRs...best bikes Honda put their name on. Can't wait to see what you do with this to bring it back to life. Thanks for bringing this to your channel.
They are great bikes, I have no idea why they go as cheap as they do, here in NZ you can sell early GSX-R750s all day long for silly money, but clean VFR750s of similar vintage go for less than half the price. I have my eye on an 86 VFR750F (In white) with only 36,000 km on the clock, the guy who owns it has it sitting in the foyer of building, never rides it anymore, its pristine. Ive almost got him convinced him to sell it to me.😄
Awesome, I don't think there has been a single NC30 that lived a nice life and its definitely a bike worth restoring.
Cheers, yeah its definitely a worthy candidate for restoration :)
I once found an NC45 here in NZ at a car sales yard fresh out of a container from Japan, that had been pampered, and someone had spent a LOT of Yen on it. It was dripping in HRC kit parts, the car yard guys had no idea what they had. I got it so cheap because it wasn't running due to gummed up carbs.😄
To me you are a hero bringing that iconic bike back to life!!!!
Love your bike restore/rebuilds. Looking forward to this series. Am doing my '95 Fj1200 at the moment.
Cheers buddy, glad to hear that you enjoy my work :)
Hows the FJ resto going? I'm about 2/3s of the way through my 87 FZR1000 restoration, I'm having difficulty finding some engine parts i need, namely exhaust valve springs (and valves). Loads of bits for the later EXUP motors, but the 87/88 are a different engine, based on the earlier FZ750.
Never clicked Like so fast..
Me neither 😂😂, well…after the shock of seeing another video 🙌 😊😊🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Love it!! :)
Same 😂
Same 😊
Same here love the builds😉
I have very fond memories of the 400cc super sports class of Japanese bikes. This a restoration I fully intend to watch!
Always look forward to an RRC video quality work done right awesome stuff !
Thank you so much for your generosity my friend I cant thank you enough :)
Gracias por devolverle la vida a este icono de los años 90. Tengo la VFR 800 RC46 y estoy muy feliz con ella.
It's not ruined! It's just dormant awaiting some love ❤
I cant argue with that one lol
I started a VFR750F RC36 restoration about 6 weeks ago and have thought many a time "Wouldn't it be cool to see an RRC restoration of a VFR?" Bang! Here it is! Very exciting indeed as I've always loved the little brother but they were very absent here in the USA. Very excited to follow this one in particular but I've been a subscriber for a while and any bike restoration is reason to get excited. I've learned a lot by watching your channel. Keep up the great work!
I used to work on those back in the day. I did a lot of imports. I remember the CBR250 redlined at 18 or 19k, proper screamer 😂
Nice, You'll be the one to contact if I run into any problems then? ;)
Thumbs up Mate. Love old Bikes, especially Hondas and other Japs. Have a 98 FireBlade. Good old Bike with less elektric and a strong engine. Its a pleasure to watch your Video.
Cheers buddy I appreciate that :)
Can’t wait for this build
When you do the engine
check rear cylinder plug threads they tend to get cross threaded by owners trying to change the plugs without proper access 👍
Cheers for the tip, I'll be sure to pay extra attention to that ;)
Fronts are surely worse! Take the tank and seat off and the rears are easy with plenty of access. Fronts though very little space with the rad in the way.
Although even the fronts are easier using the original plug spanner from the toolkit!
@@fastdruid you’d think but the two I worked on had spat the dummy from the rear cos the threads had been hashed
This is going to be a long series, but I'm looking forward to it. The teasers on patreon didn't give a full picture of the task ahead. Now it's out there and it looks rough as toast! Bring it on!🤩
Hey buddy good to hear from you, Yeah its going to be a long-ish series just with the amount of work i want to document for you but I'll do my best not to take it too far I wouldn't want you to lose interest in the project ;)
@@RRCRestoration More detail the better for me! 😎👍
Oh my goodness I had one for those back in the day! Lovely little machine. I haven’t seen one in the wild for years. Thanks for sharing!
One of the best fun bikes I've ridden, what muppet kept in that condition? one of the best Imports ever, good luck, but I'm sure with your talent it will be another cracker, can't wait for the finished bike 👍
Nice to see you again, I think its just many years and many owners adding to the neglect and iffy styling choices lol. Cant wait to get it back to standard as i think the VFR looks brilliant in its original red white and blue colour scheme.
@@RRCRestoration I'm so glad you're going back to red white and blue, it just doesn't look right in black. I think this is your toughest challenge yet, I can't wait to see how it unfolds.
Oh My God!!!
I owned a VFR400 when I was 20 years old, and now I am 52 years old and can still see such a complete VFR400. Thank you very much.
This video should really be about 2 days long!!
I'm one minute in and already in awe at taking on such a wreck. Condensing this to 19 minutes - you are a gent!
always look forward to a new video from you.... your abilities are a rare thing in todays world! - would you consider doing a video/series on your end to end plating process and how someone can get started in it without buying commercially available kits that dont seem to do a decent job? your re-finishing is truly a thing of beauty lol
Sat watching this with a nice pint of cider on my sofa with the rain pouring out side and I couldn’t care less, great video 👍
Great stuff, love these bike rebuilds and can't wait to see the rest of it. 🙌
Thank you, really glad you enjoy my work :)
I enjoyed watching this, brought back memories of a forgotten left to rot ZZR I've just completely restored.
Que maravilha, aqui se inicia mais uma série de restauração que dá prazer de assitir. Obrigado pelos seus conteúdos
I have one in my shed perfect condition, the engineer in those Little bikes is second to none, I haven’t started it in years, 3 kids just appeared in the last few years.😊
Nice to see the new project and content. Looking forward to seeing how things develop, this one looks to be in a bit of a sorry state. Best of luck!
This brings back memories of my scruffy VFR400, it was a runner and ran flawlessly after the carbs were cleaned. It was sold on twice and ended up being sent to the US.
Only thing I can recommend is changing the rads for new ones but make sure the top rad is curved, makes hell of a difference.
OMG! driving the fairing into the other room was hilarious! always look forward to your excellent restorations!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
gotta have a little fun with it, because if you take it too seriously, you’re gonna stress out and miss something or make a mistake
Just discovered this..another NC30 rebuild and restoration. One more back on the road. Love it!
You make it look SO easy, lol... This is motivating me to FINALLY get my Tomos A55 and Honda NC50 mopeds running!
I wonder how many people catch/notice the cinematography and editing.
When you pulled the exhaust and water spilled out, and you recreated the water drop from a different angle... *chefs kiss. You did it again with the nut being dropped into the container and again when picking up the bolt from the floor.
It’s all in the details. Keep up the kick ass efforts.
Love, Chris Nolan
Oh yes. Finally a real older, natural bike. Can't wait to continue the renovation. .
Please show the carburetor cleaning and adjustment process. Along with synchronization..
Nice camera angles, on spot editing, humor, Scottish accent and a VFR!
This poor old classic bike is definitely in the right hands, looking forward to much more to come.
Thank you, glad you are looking forward to it :)
To say she's been stood, not in that bad condition. Remember these in the showroom. Still sort after bike. Brilliant upload!
Stuck watching these restoration videos while I recover after my rs125 locked up the rear wheel on me round a corner🤦🏼♂️ she’ll need fixing up once I’m recovered! You’re videos are great and give me hope I’ll get mine looking good again :).
Just picked up 07 r6 barn scrap, your channel has given me inspiration that I maybe can restore what I thought was a goner! Thank you!!!!!
So happy you are taking on a new bike rebuild! I love to see how this one comes out again
Please more superbike restorations! I managed to completely restore a crashed R1 2007 thanks to the knowledge i gathered mainly from you. We are talking not only on the mechanical spectrum, but also painting and clear coating the frame and re-painting the original fairings to a beautiful black gloss with factory stickers!
the GoldenEye 007 on N64 coffee break :)))) this will be another top series, nice nice!
I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching :)
Heck yes 💪🏼 as a Honda Boi I love to see old Hondas come back to life.
I had a Cbr 400 rr, 11 yrs ago, one of the best bikes ever ridden, so much fun.
Great vid! I used to own one of these, and your vid brought back many memories! I can still hear the engine revs in my ears... 🙏💖
The VFR is one of the best bikes Honda ever built. 😊 And as always, perfekt Videoangle and Cut. Cant wait to see the next parts. Thanks for sharing this labour extensive videos with us. 🤗
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment :)
It's therapy to watch these restoration videos. Looking forward to the next video.. greetings from Ireland.
Thank you, glad you like them :)
Wonderful. Looks like how most of my bikes start, thanks for the realism..
I'm working on my 1983 honda xr500r a.t.m. and i'm always impressed how you make everything look so eazy😅. A lot of work goes in these restorations and you're doing them the best on the internet(in my opinion).
As someone who bought a wreck of a CBR400RR NC23 not too long ago (drunk on ebay)...I appreciate the series and what are fantastic bikes. Subscribed!
I love watching all of your restoration projects, makes me feel like taking one on.
Watching e 2 of VFR 400 I admire both your work, and work habits You asked for comment re " a bad mistake" . I believe that you installed one of the rear hub bearings in reverse. The fact that you encourage constructive feedback is a testament to your character.
The Algorithm brought me here. Glad it did. I shall be following you and your progress on this VFR. Awesome so far!
Thank you , Welcome aboard :)
Just sold my RVF400. Missing it already so this'll be some good therapy. Looking forward to the series.
Uoooo, I'm cry.. NOSTALGIA . this is my first bike.
Nice machine... 62 h/p madness )))
I am due to get a 400cc beast shortly as I plan to restore a zxr400 myself over the winter, love watching your videos keep up the great work 🤙
What an awesome bike this could be! We never got these bikes in America, and I love V4s. Hurry up I want to see what's next.
Better than any tv restoration show. No bs over hype just cool machines and great work
Never seen a rusty nut or anything on these Restors, always so straight forward.
Loved the little goldeneye piece, and slowly getting less camera shy too, great little additions to the channel.
Looking forward to seeing the process with this one.
Favourite youtube channel + favourite bike = winning combination!
Fantastic, what a great bike, and also loved the homage to the n64's golden eye, took me way back, awesome, 👍🏻🍻
Always great to see an old VFR!! Another great project!
One thing i love about restoring different bikes, is seeing how different manufactures designed their bikes. I'm into 80s bikes and the big four were really trying everything and anything back then, each had their own approach and style.
NC30 was my 1st bike and the one I regret selling. Looking forward to this resto!!
Awesome, I’ve just stripped and rebuilt a 1988 CBR250R, inspired by your videos, can’t wait for this one!
How refreshing. A no nonsense, non bullshitting RUclipsr.
Thumbs up. I’ve subscribed.
The Goldeneye part was genius! 😂
Thank you :)
Bought my vfr400 after passing my test. I was so impressed that the upgrade had to be to vfr750, possibly the best bike honda ever made. Great to see this one being saved by a professional
Love your work, i just have to watch each and every one of your restorations.
Really looking forward to seeing this one evolve back to its former glory, at the hands of the best restorer on the Tube.......
Keen to see what comes of this amazing machine! Staying tuned for the next episode
Can't wait to watch the rebirth of this project. Thank You.
Please never stop making videos. I drink tea when I work on my bike now because of you.
Good to see another project. This one is one of my favourite bikes. At 62 I might be a bit too old to ride one. 😂
Oh wow, Mr. RRC! Fabulous choice!! We never got the 400 over here, but I had a Honda brochure for the RC30 in my high school locker. Can’t wait to see this!!
Thank you, That's cool I bet that brochure would be worth bit of money now if you still had it ;)
As always, looking forward to seeing this build move forward, I seen a lot of Honda motorcycles but this model is new to me.
Same here, Ive already got the next episode well underway but cant wait to see even more progress :)
I think I can see you restore every bike on earth and not get bored! Looking forward to the follow up videos! Thanks for the great content!
Thank you :)
I had 2 VFR400RR NC30's when i was younger. A japanese grey import one and an original UK Spec one. Great little bikes. Wish I still had one.
What a wreck. Excellent! Looking forward to the coming episodes.
finally a restoration of an iconic motorcycle. you are number 1
*_Another masterpiece! Such a pleasure to watch! Thank you 💕_*
