    I just did this!
    My extra tips:
    -When trying to pull it over the tie rod end and even onto the steering rack, heat with a hair dryer. It makes the rubber WAY more pliable and easier to stretch/pull.
    -Dont use a screwdriver to encourage the boot past the tie rod.. use the end of a spoon or something blunter.
    Good luck 🤠

    Thanks a million!!! Three mechanics wanted $900-1,300 for a new rack and pinion because they said the system was compromised; BS! I took the old boot off, cleaned and greased the area and slipped the new boot on and wallah, saved a ton of money! Thanks again buddy!!!!!

    Awesome stuff, gonna tackle this project this weekend on my Lexus RX350. Power steering fluid was leaking out so I'll try getting some of the old stuff out and putting in Lucas power steering stop leak as I've heard good reviews.
    One thing different I would do is to clean the old grease and dirt off the joints before regreasing it. It won't be perfect but will be much better than just putting new grease over the old grease. Rack and pinion replacement on my car would be $300+ for parts and $1000+ for labor. This fix should be sufficient enough for hopefully another 100k miles.

    At first I didn’t believe you would get the boot over the tie rod end:) The only thing I’m wondering is what you did with that spring clamp that was on the end of the boot? Did you leave it inside the new boot? And as for the wheel bearing grease I would not have lubed the rack beyond the inner rod, the ball was ok to do but the rack itself was a no no, the wheel bearing grease could wreck the inner seals, you should of just squirted on some power steering fluid that your vehicle uses. Other then that I was impressed you got the boot over the tie rod end:)

  • @user-wr3qn1bv5s
    @user-wr3qn1bv5s 6 месяцев назад

    You actually need a new inner and outer tie rod; the inner should be stiff and this one easily moves, and the bushing of the outer one is all squashed and leaking grease without a fitting to add more grease; they are both bad. I like the idea of using a greased bag, you think outside of the box! thank you.

    Zip tie!?....I would suggest using a metal clamp, other than that great video tutorial

      I believe the Zip Tie comes with the kit. I've seen a few booth online with Zip Tie...I'm sure it's okay but metal clamp would probably works best.
