I had jaw surgery march 2019 (upper and lower) every day it gets so much better your face changes so much that it often feels so confusing and this face dysmorphia comes along especially comparing it to your "old" face but this was how you were meant to look! The swelling goes down don't worry about that! Such a great video

I am 11 months post up double jaw surgery , I feel like my face is changing everyday , its super confusing to decide how I will look like . when does it finally stop changing ?
For anyone stupid enough to listen to this girls advice, remember you're leaving your face up to the surgeon preference, his own ideal of how your face should look, and if anything goes wrong, you're just another patient thats he's done with after the surgery is completed. You're the one who has to live with it everyday

im watching this as im currently recovering from my lower jaw surgery. i am 100% with you when you said you have no pain, just discomfort that you can really describe. im so glad there isn’t any huge pain so far, the only pain i experience is when i swallow, but tylonel and advil helps that. i also got my top wisdom teeth out at the same time, so there’s a little discomfort there. there was a chance that i would stay overnight at the hospital, which i was quite upset about since i was told from the very beginning of my braces journey it would only be day surgery, plus i wasn’t allowed any visitors at all. the surgery only lasted an hour, and i was in recovery in the hospital for about 2-3 hours. i was finally discharged about 15-20 mins after waking up from my surgery which was really nice. im still only on day 1, but i know that the first few days is the hardest, but i know i can to this. if you’re reading this because you’re getting surgery soon, just know all will be okay, you’re in good hands, and as long as you do what you’re supposed to when recovering, it will be quick, as painless as possible, and worth it!!

We are different. But I have a severe underbite, and have simply never considered surgery for it. None of my dentists either, except for one, who said that the bite will become painful over the years. Today, however, I'm happy that I didn't have any surgical intervention, as the tooth bite became ok on its own and I don't suffer any pain from it. Only have to chew a little extra carefully when I'm chewing. On the other hand, I have great respect for those of you who choose to have an operation. Many people with underbites are bullied and people make fun of it. Over the years I've learned to deal with that part. But sure, maybe I would have felt better with a good bite...All credit to you for choosing to document your trip!

She looked younger because her face was swollen. I had the same surgery, after two weeks I looked like that too with that "glow" and cute high nose tip. It is temporary.

I’m the exact same cross and underbite! So terrified of this. I’m already underweight and have other severe health issues. I’m literally scared I won’t survive surgery.
I broke my left condyle bone, had to spend 1 week waiting for surgery in Japan. Had surgery done yesterday, day 1 woke up 3hrs later, including time for drugs to wear off, Post up....scared, confused, drowsy ( Anesthesia is no joke ) that first night was rough...the pain kicked in so did my blood pressure, the staff at hospital was kind, kept checking up on me. I am now the official receiver of 3 Titanium plates and 7 screws....* writing this from hospital as i write this. Next day can only open 60%, lower left lip a bit numb. I had to get multiple parts of my skull done, I do not kniow how i would hold up - Hang in there people, you will get through this
Hi, I also consulted with your surgeon and he is the best. Still mulling over if I will go through with it, need to get the costs back and see when this would take place but he is truly unique and gifted. Your results are incredible and you look beautiful. I'm sure it is kind of an identity crisis and scary at times. I appreciate all the work you put into this vlog!! Best of luck to you.
Thank you so much for posting this!! I’ve been watching jaw surgery vlogs for years haha, i love the editing/music on urs. you look so good and congrats :) I have Class III occlusion too and am meeting with a surgeon this month to discuss treatment. If you don’t mind me asking how expensive was your surgery ?
thanks so much Rachel, hope your consult goes well!! the pricing varies among surgeons, I was quoted anywhere from 15-40k by different doctors so it will all depend on where and who you choose! just make sure you are confident with the surgeon.
Loved the editing! I haven’t had the procedure yet but your results look amazing, you look even younger :) I hope you love the full results once the swelling goes down completely 🧡
Hi Rachel, I’m so glad you made this video and shared your experience. I’m seriously considering this surgery so thank you so much. I’m just curious who was the surgeon you went with after researching oral surgeons? I’m in NYC as well. Thanks!
hi, thank u for the vlog, i hope you’re doing fine now ❤ may i ask if you’ve had any nerve damage? like is there any part of your face that feels numb?
She was also absolutely perfect and didn’t need it. I hate these surgeons for making women feel ugly- and people too, who say she looked worse before. She had a model look before
@@Batrnabmjhhhh it wasn’t about looks. She is having underbite which makes chewing foods very difficult. I also have underbite and I loved my face before. But this surgery should be done or it can lead jaw functional problems. Not every surgery in face should be considered cosmetic.
Oh wow! Your initial descriptions are very similar to mine! Kind of a scrunched upper jaw and forward lower jaw (my bite was helped with braces almost 10 years ago, but they didn’t take into account my airway and tongue 🙄). I’m also doing Invisalign after the surgery. Just got my authorization today. So nervous!!!!!
@@kaylawebel2297hiiii I’m thinking about getting surgery for my underbite. Could you maybe tell me all about it? The pain, recovery process and how long that took, when the swelling went down.. all of it if you don’t mind. Oh and how your face changes
Congrats, great story. I'm scheduled for a similar surgery later in the year. Just curious, though, how were you able to avoid braces during the process? I thought that was required, I know I'm wired in anticipation of the surgery. Thanks and great outcome!!! - Teenie
I chose invisalign instead, they place metal attachments (TADs) in the gums during surgery to hold the rubber bands so no need for braces. I'm sure it varies by case, but I was banded shut rather than wired. hope yours goes well!
Thanks so much for your thoughts. It's frustrating as they never even mentioned what you had as an option. They went further to say that the braces were doing NOTHING other than to wire things shut after surgery. So, since surgery has been delayed due to COVID from May, I've worn these beautifully attractive puppies on my teeth since early March, enduring the cringe looks when people see me smile as an adult with incarcerated teeth. To add insult to injury, the braces need to stay for 6 months after the surgery, so a full year with braces I don't need, how humilating! I'm so jealous of you and your having a cool ortho and surgeon working towards your best interests. Heck, the laughter of my bf seeing me smile for the first time with braces will forever haunt me! UGH! Thanks.
I’m two years too late - but at 18:10 I just wanted to hug you. You look lovely! I’m contemplating getting my underbite fixed through surgery. I may have missed it in the video, but what surgeon did you go with?
Wow you look so good after the surgery, I have an underbite as well and it’s so bad that it’s wearing away my front teeth, I was thinking of also going for double jaw surgery
Thank you for sharing your journey! I’m 27 and I am just starting the process for Invisialign then DJS after a year. May I ask your age? Looks like you didn’t have much pain and your swelling is going down very quickly! Hoping that will be my case as well.
wishing you the best on yours! I'm 22. I wouldn't expect much pain but there is a lot of discomfort the first few days. Everyone is different w swelling, it was very minimal when I got my wisdom teeth out as well, so I think that's a good gauge on how you'll respond (but obviously DJS is way more extreme)! there are a ton of things I did to help which I'd be happy to share.
My jaw literally keeps shifting forward slowly. I can’t even bite my nails anymore(I don’t bite them at all actually but just for reference to depict the gap from the bottom to the top, I can’t even grip my nail to bite it...) My top now sits behind my bottom and I’m so so self conscious.i hide it well in pictures but you already know those angles I’m talking about... I’m planning on my surgery for next year after I finish school and land a good job. The discomfort of my jaw constantly clicking or putting pressure on my head is just too much. Thanks for sharing your journey!! Question though-do I need to get braces BEFORE my surgery?? Or can I just get porcelain veneers AFTER I heal from surgery
Usually, jaw surgery is done together with orthodontics treatment. The timing is specific to your case, you can wear the braces before or after, or even both.
totally understand how you feel!! the surgery is to correct your bite so the first step is seeing an orthodontist and they develop your treatment plan (some cases can be fixed w orthodontics alone, but if not they'll recommend you to a surgeon). the orthodontist works w the surgeon to correct it, so depending on your case braces/invisalign are needed before and/or after to perfect your bite
@@tabintanyang7213 Not yet! 😔 I found an alternative treatment for the meantime while I keep saving up! The surgery is like 50k… I do Masseter Botox treatments on my jaw and temple every 3 months(50 units total) and it relieves all the pressure and pain from my jaw clenching/TMJ. It also breaks down the hard scar tissue that’s formed in my jaw area. Definitely still going for the surgery though. It’s just going to take more time.😕
Thank you for sharing! My underbite is way more noticeable than yours and I’m looking into the surgery! If you have any updates I’d love to hear about it!💕
Awe, sweets. I was checking your more recent videos and thought to come back to this one. I am looking to get surgery and my father has been telling me basically what you said about it will be a mistake & it makes me so upset just thinking about it . I feel stuck to go after his word or do what i want. god bless your soul and beautiful face !
We are same' Im just 14 but I hope someday When Im at the right age I can start saving money for a surgery,Im currently get depressed sometimes tho Coz looking my face at mirror make me scared lol.'
I wanted this surgery for a long time too, but don't worry your time will come eventually! its important to practice being confident w who you are now and not to put pressure on a surgery to make you feel better though- law of attraction.
Can you please share approx how much the surgery cost? I have an appt with your surgeon (I think) and would like to have a rough idea before I fly out of state to see him. Thank you 🙏🏽
thank you! not comfortable sharing my surgeon's info on here just because I'm not yet happy w my results. my surgeon was great in terms of bedside manner, but I wouldn't be comfortable making a recommendation based on my actual surgical outcome as of right now (since the outcome of the surgery is really what matters). wishing you the best of luck w your surgery!!
I recommend asking your orthodontist for surgeon recommendations (its super important they work well together) and ask your ortho for before and afters from cases similar to yours- don't make any decisions based off social media!
Awesome video, you really did a great job. My underbite has always made me self conscious. I am 30 years old and have finally mustered the courage to begin this journey. I am nervous my face will change too much...by the way those vegan shakes are the best! Try the chai!
so I had the same issue pretty much and my options were surgery or extractions with braces. I chose extractions with braces. They ended up only having to pull one molar and they tilted my lower teeth in a bit but my face is more even and continues to get more even and symmetrical. My center line was off quite a bit and was getting worse and worse. I am getting the braces off next month and I am 50 years old. Did you know, they can split the roof of your mouth open and use an expander to expand your upper bite? We did not go that option because I was 48 years old and talk to clients at work all day but my advice to anyone is to go this route. And its okay if youre old too, just do it. I can finally close my mouth! My tounge sits on the roof of my mouth and my face is getting more and more symmetrical by the day.
I have my double jaw surgery on the 21st of April, watching this has given me a little boost as I’ve been worrying about the whole thing. You look great! 🤗
That's awesome they do it virtually before u get it. I have to possibly go through the same thing & my dentist is saying there's no other option & really has pushed it since my 1st visit with him that was for a filling only. I have a slight under bite & I think I really need to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion. Did your dentist push the surgery on u like mine is doing or did they give you other options.
I have the same problems as yours, and I'm looking forward to having surgery of my chin because I have long squared chin. may i ask if how much did you pay for entire surgery? PLEASEE CO'Z I REALLY HAVE MY DOUBTS BECO'Z I DONT HAVE ENOUGH BUDGET FOR IT BUT IM GONNA SAVE FOR IT THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Thankyou for this video- one of the most helpful and reassuring ones i've watched so far! My surgery is a way off yet, but I'm still nervous as anyone would be. My braces are hopefully being fitted early next year🤞🏼 then after a year or so with those on, I'll be getting my realignment surgery !! Anyone with any recommendations on jaw realignment journey's that i could possibly watch would be greatly appreciated🤍

Tysm for posting to help others! How many mm did you move the upper forward and the bottom backwards, if you don't mind me asking? I have to do 8mm forward and I'm so worried I'm going to ruin my face :(

I’m getting double jaw surgery in January 2022. 10 months before my wedding 🙄. You’re so beautiful before and after! Thank you for making this video🖤🖤
HOW DID IT GO
I broke my left condyle bone, had to spend 1 week waiting for surgery in Japan.
Does he take insurance? If not do you mind sharing the approx cost?
Wc surgeon is better? Did she says who is the other surgeon!
You look absolutely beautiful! I wish I was brave enough to have the surgery myself.
Rach S thanks sm for the reply also btw i actually think ur nose looks super cute
Really ... this was the best vlog I saw about jaw surgery!!! thanks 💙🌸
your nose truthfully looks more upward and like perky as seen in the pic at 16:23 i think, did the jaw surgery also effect that?
im 17 and i have an underbite jaw surgery when im 19 and ive been having a panic attack over it so thank you so much x
Loved the editing! I haven’t had the procedure yet but your results look amazing, you look even younger :) I hope you love the full results once the swelling goes down completely 🧡
thank you so much! I really hope so too. good luck on your journey ❤️
at 4:17 you do look like how you look right now though, i think you must be recovering! stay strong
Can you please do an update?🥺 I think it turned out amazing! You just need time to get used to the change☺️
The result ia amazing! You look so beautiful! And its only getting better and better every day
Hi Rachel, I’m so glad you made this video and shared your experience. I’m seriously considering this surgery so thank you so much. I’m just curious who was the surgeon you went with after researching oral surgeons? I’m in NYC as well. Thanks!
look at the rest of her channel, i think in her case she should have just done a maxillary advancement or sarpe instead of a full surgery
What's that book you were reading at 6:52? I'm looking for an easy intro into stoic literature! Thanks so much. (for this video as well) :)
hi, thank u for the vlog, i hope you’re doing fine now ❤
may i ask if you’ve had any nerve damage? like is there any part of your face that feels numb?
I already finished my Invisalign and they still recommend this for me...but I don't think I could do it. Thanks for sharing, you look great.
She was so happy and optimistic before her surgery.. some of these surgeons really are pure evil
Hope shes feeling better now 😔😔
@@yally5949 i doubt it
She was also absolutely perfect and didn’t need it.
It’s like they did a human sacrifice with her
thank you for being so open. its remarkable to see
i’ve been debating rather or not i want to go through with it for years. my dream is to have a normal bite but it just seems so scary
me too
Same and if you watch her last video u can see she’s not happy at all
I’m getting my surgery in June for underbite, I’ve been so nervous, thank you so much for this!
how was yours? i got mine this june too, i’m one week post op
@@kaylawebel2297hiiii I’m thinking about getting surgery for my underbite. Could you maybe tell me all about it? The pain, recovery process and how long that took, when the swelling went down.. all of it if you don’t mind. Oh and how your face changes
Watched the whole video and I don’t even need jaw surgery! You look beautiful
I may have missed it in the video, but what surgeon did you go with?
wait, so your jaw didn't have to stay wired/rubber banned only after a week?
This is so informative!
Did you need to get braces before the surgery?
@@rachs9326 thanks so much!!!
Did you get the surgery?
@@tabintanyang7213 Not yet! 😔 I found an alternative treatment for the meantime while I keep saving up! The surgery is like 50k… I do Masseter Botox treatments on my jaw and temple every 3 months(50 units total) and it relieves all the pressure and pain from my jaw clenching/TMJ. It also breaks down the hard scar tissue that’s formed in my jaw area. Definitely still going for the surgery though. It’s just going to take more time.😕
What is the tittle that book you had read during the recovery time? Could you share 🥺
Thank you for sharing! My underbite is way more noticeable than yours and I’m looking into the surgery! If you have any updates I’d love to hear about it!💕
Your my comfort RUclipsr!! Come back 💓
You look great! What was the name of your surgeon? I’ve been trying to do research of my own on double jaw surgery.
Omg you went to one of the best surgeons :( I'm so so so sorry X they was on my list.
We are same'
Im just 14 but I hope someday When Im at the right age I can start saving money for a surgery,Im currently get depressed sometimes tho Coz looking my face at mirror make me scared lol.'
Thank you 🙏🏽
Who is your surgeon. I’m looking for one
Hi Rach, how's the price range for jaw surgery and does dental or hearlth insurance over it?
Would you recommend your surgeon? Keep posting updates, this video is so helpful :) Im I think 6 months away from being surgery ready!
thank you! not comfortable sharing my surgeon's info on here just because I'm not yet happy w my results. my surgeon was great in terms of bedside manner, but I wouldn't be comfortable making a recommendation based on my actual surgical outcome as of right now (since the outcome of the surgery is really what matters). wishing you the best of luck w your surgery!!
I recommend asking your orthodontist for surgeon recommendations (its super important they work well together) and ask your ortho for before and afters from cases similar to yours- don't make any decisions based off social media!
Ouch.
I hope you’re much happier now that looks like it was painful.
You were beautiful before it
Night and day better!!! you can't even notice your teeth but you could definitely notice your underbite before
Looks absolutely awesome! Where did you get it done and what was the approx cost, would you be kind enough to share?
Thank you for showing what you ate/drank during the first weeks. That was so helpful. I love Koia, too. 😊
Rachel, you're so cute, before and after your surgery you still look amazing! So adorable.
definitely not feeling it, but thanks so much Ryan!
@@rachs9326 My pleasure Rachel! 😊Make more videos! you seem interesting! Are you on Instagram too? 😊
@@eth_ghost haha thank you, interesting enough I'm not! sorry!!
@@rachs9326 That's okay, you're super cute! I'm not sure how I came across your video but I did! Take care Rach 😊
I have my double jaw surgery on the 21st of April, watching this has given me a little boost as I’ve been worrying about the whole thing. You look great! 🤗
good luck!! :) hope it all goes well!
Rachel B Thank you!! 🤗
Hiiii can you please tell me all abt it? The pain level, how long it took to heal, when the swelling went down, how ur face changed?
Hey girl! You look great! I was wondering if you had any extractions when you had braces post surgery?
no extractions/braces post surgery
Anyone with any recommendations on jaw realignment journey's that i could possibly watch would be greatly appreciated🤍
best of luck, mia!
Very important question: the picture you showed right after surgery your eyes were tapped over and there was blood what was that ? did that hurt? I’m confused on that part why there was blood coming out of ur eyes
Can you please share what the cost is approximately?
I’m so scared to get my surgery because I’m scared my face is going to change so much that people won’t recognize me 😅 it’s also so much money
@Coffee Girl fortunately my underbite is not that severe I believe it’s only 1/4 inch to a 1/3 of an inch ... but it’s still scary
You really do look great. Did the doctor have an explanation for your nose change?
Thanks for sharing your experience it will be helpful after my extension of lower jaw surgery. I was worried. Rach highly appreciated.
I was told you could only have jaw surgery with braces so they had something to latch onto in order to keep your mouth closed after the surgery?
GIRLLLL!!!!! talk about pain im on my 6th tmj surgery and im waiting for my replacement surgery hopefully next month! it SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs i always feel like i have ear infections. Specially when im stressed my ears inflame, my jaw pops out of the socket, etc. GIRLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL i feel you
The tube through your nose looks terrifying is that removed before you wake up??
Girl your side profile is gorgeous. I'm thinking about undergoing this surgery myself, and this vid really did alleviate some of my anxiety LOOL
I have a class three underbite too, and have been recommended for a consultation with orthodontics and surgeon. I really hope my insurance covers it. 😥 I'm so nervous.
did you talk to your orthodontist before scheduling the surgery. When i was younger they talked me out of it because it wouldnt be worth it. And I wonder if they tried to talk you out of it
Hey for how long did u wear this braces?
Those who ever did upper and lower jaw surgery, yes their nose shape changes….
Such an amazing transformation, your profile changed for the best. I need exactly the same procedure done on me but kind of scared to do it. But this video has helped me to try and go for it. I have a question, was wondering how much roughly does this procedure cost? Thank you and you look amazing again 👏👏👌🥳
Your teeth at 1:12 are perfect and even (not pushed inward or canted), you have all 32 teeth (an anomaly nowadays), and your gums look perfect..I wish I had your issues. I have such a cant on both upper and lower teeth, among other things.
Who was your surgeon? I’m in nyc and I need surgery. Any recommendations?
Tysm for posting to help others! How many mm did you move the upper forward and the bottom backwards, if you don't mind me asking? I have to do 8mm forward and I'm so worried I'm going to ruin my face :(
I'm not sure the exact measurements but can lyk. best of luck!
My daughter needs this surgery. I’m very nervous about it. How are you doing now?
This is very off topic but what book were you reading? Also, you looked great in this vid! Your swelling went down pretty fast!!! I hope you enjoyed NYC while you were there & that you’re doing well now! ❤️
the daily stoic. thank you!
@@rachs9326 thank youu! ❤️
i have a severe underbite too much much worse than yours but I'm getting it done with just invisalign's..Was it really necessary to do the surgery or you wanted results fast?
Thank you for this! I'm considering getting it done since I really dont like my underbite jaw
I have an underbite and the ortho told me that surgery is the only way. It really scares me though i don’t won’t to live with my crooked bite forever. I’m too young for it now but in a couple years maybe. Do you think it was worth getting the surgery? Thanks for the great video!
I was nervous and thought about it for a long time too, you have time so don't rush into it! most people I've talked with who have gotten this surgery are very happy w the outcome. at this point, I can't say if it was worth it for me but I hope it will be in the end!
Is it cheaper with insurance and like how much cheaper ?
Could you please tell about the cost, I struggle with low self esteem so I am also contemplating getting a jaw surgery
