  • This 48min class is a follow up to my "Introduction to Pilates for New Beginners" video. If you're absolutely new to Pilates, please watch the intro video for a balanced understanding of Pilates goals and principles.
    This session provides the first class structure for anyone new, introducing correct technique, breathing and focus during a flowing class. Modifications are included, so all levels are catered for. This is a full body workout, balancing the entire body, working on placement of stabilising muscles, the core and spinal mobility.
    Beginners should complete this video around 5-10 times before moving on to my more advanced videos. Note, this video is not designed as a cardio fitness or Hiit program. Pilates targets the deep core and stabilising muscles, which are smaller and faster to fatigue.
    The class follows the essential repertoire of matwork Pilates, introducing foundation and basic principles.
    Enjoy!

    Thank you so much Lucy, I did a lot of RUclips pilates in my early 20s and coming back now in my late 20s and finding your video has totally changed my perspective. What I was doing before was like HIIT classes almost. Your intro and beginners class have highlighted the nuance to me and showed me how less is more. Clearly, you are very knowledgable and you think out the 'map' of the class and relationship between movements. You have helped me when I'm doing classes in the gym by instructors who maybe don't have a lot of pilates training. I am able to do less and make the movements smaller to keep neutral and keep my back on the floor. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise on RUclips in such a helpful and enjoyable way! All the best, Sophie :D

    Thank you so much for your time in these videos. I’ve been wanting to do Pilates but knew it was important to understand the little details that are happening with each exercise. I started with your fundamentals video and will be doing this one for a while. I appreciate your attention to detail and the way your describe the tiny little engagements.

    I am a fit person ( I do body building ) yet I find some of these exercises pretty hard
    I want to be more flexible and I'm hoping in the future I can get good enough at this so I could teach other people
    You've been a great help thank you so much

      You're so welcome. Thank you for the great feedback. Do not be disheartened that you find some of this challenging. Pilates will work a completely different group of muscles to those that you work during your body building workouts. Pilates works the smaller, deeper layer muscles whereas the body building will work the larger, global muscles. Keep going with the Pilates. You'll start to see huge improvements in your strength in general. All the best.

    What beginners equipment should i get started with?

    • @YourIdealFit
      @YourIdealFit  Год назад

      Firstly a good mat. A Pilates mat is typically thicker than a yoga mat. So when you are looking be sure to check the thickness dimension. I personally like something around 10mm to give sufficient cushioning. Then I would look to get a mini stability ball, a flexband, a fitness circle (ring) and some toning balls (0.5/1kg). I hope that helps. xx

    Your breathing is very confusing in these. 🥴😵‍💫you should have put subtitles when to inhale and exhale. 😅 These are not beginner friendly 😅

    • @YourIdealFit

      Thank you for your comment. It's very common, when starting out with Pilates, that people find the breathing a little confusing. Perhaps look at my Intro to Pilates video, if you haven't already. The breathing patterns, in Pilates, are very much set. Every exercise has a specific breath pattern. I would encourage you to persevere. It will become more second nature the more you practice. Thank you for your suggestion of subtitles. It's not something that would work, in my opinion. You would have to sit up to read the screen which would force you out of your position and subsequently this would ruin the flow of the exercise. I encourage my class participants, whether online or in person, to listen intently and concentrate on my verbal instructions and cueing. This allows you to feel the connection of the breath and movement in your body which, over time, creates muscle memory. I try, as best I can, to emulate an in-person class with these videos. we wouldn't have written instructions or subtitles in the studio. I wish you all the best with your Pilates journey.
