I agree wholeheartedly. We got a course at Uni that basically works the same way, I think it’s named « YOLO - Your online learning opportunities ». However his explanations were much better. I got 30 out of 30 questions correctly but it’s not that surprising after more or less two decades of learning English at school. It’s great to see those passionate about teaching and refreshing after learning through reading and boring tests that made me learn this beautiful language through movies, comics and books.

I was unsure of 2 items on the B level but I got everything on the C level perfectly. Most likely a result of having learnt English passively from the internet, lol.
Same i got all right on level C but 4 mistake on level B 😂 now I’m confused which one I am
Same here 😅 but that because my grammar skills been spoiled with classic school education (I think that was 1 month learning/9 grades of school, when they couldn't hire any teacher)
Me too I got 7/10 in the first test but then got 9/10 for the second and the third test lol
I got only 1 wrong on b test also i learned english same way lol
Your english is perfect
We use english so much that even if you don't know english that good you can easily answer option questions because of phonetic memory. But if we (non native speakers) were given a test that relied more on only what we know (without options that can make it easier) we'd not get a score that's as good on a test like this one for sure.
+1
I'm a native speaker, and even I got some of these questions wrong. I've heard native English speakers say some of the wrong answers in real life. If you're at a level where you can say these phrases in a quick manner, even if it's not entirely grammatically correct, it will, most likely, still be understood. In my opinion, if you can communicate with someone, your speaking is good. Sorry that English is so confusing! If I wasn't a native speaker, I definitely would not want to have to learn English.
@@victoriacser5065 Don't be sorry that english is so confusing, English is way easier than most languages. Some of us have it easier earning english than our own language 😅

Thanks Brian! C2 for me, now I have to improve the other languages that I know up to at least C1!
I am a native English speaker who was born and brought up in the United States. For some time, I have been trying to improve my English usage. I have had a difficult time finding any resources that would help me master *CORRECT* STANDARD ENGLISH.
All around me I hear (& even read in publications) a common popular idiom being spoken, which is what I think of as "pop 'english' for 'pop' culture." Such an idiom has its place, but I find that it is vague, ambiguous, and often confusing. I was delighted to come across this video. Thank-you! 🤗
Thanks man I appreciate that ❤❤
I answered 7 questions correctly in the advanced level test! and I passed the previous tests with 10 ❤

Upon contemplation of this assessment, it becomes conspicuously evident that the command of the English language stands as a quintessential emblem of intellectual acumen. Attaining a flawless score not only signifies aptitude but also bespeaks a profound comprehension of the intricate nuances inherent within linguistic structures. It stands as a testament to the assiduous refinement of one's cognitive faculties, encapsulating erudition in its purest form.
Within this domain, one ascends beyond the banalities of ordinary discourse, positioned atop the zenith of linguistic proficiency. Yet, amidst this accolade, there lingers a faint whisper of desire, a subtle yearning for an even greater challenge, an acknowledgment that perhaps the test could have dared to delve deeper into the realms of complexity, further nurturing the appetite for linguistic exploration and mastery. Such an accomplishment not only accentuates individual eminence but also assumes the mantle of a guiding light, illuminating the trajectory for others to aspire toward linguistic excellence.
But let's not forget the quirks of the English language that keep us on our toes-like the infamous "i before e except after c" rule, which seems to have more exceptions than adherents! Ah, English, the language where "ghoti" can be pronounced as "fish" if you twist your tongue just right. Truly, mastering English is like solving a puzzle where the pieces sometimes seem to have a mind of their own. Yet, for those brave enough to venture forth, the journey is as rewarding as it is amusing!🍒

you welcome bro🤍🤍
Im 14 and from Québec, Canada. I'm glad to learn English at school, but what really helped me is whatching videos. Once I was able to understand pretty much anyone that could talk simply and slowly, I started to be interested in English speaking RUclipsrs. I did an oral evaluation today and I improvised almost everything, and it worked pretty well. In the video, I had the grade C2. I'm proud but I still got some work to do before mastering this language. I'm on a 400 day streak in Spanish on Duolingo as well. I would like to speak fluently 3 languages by my twenties.... Wish me luck !
I am at my level B2 .But I knew the answers to many of the questions in the next levels

Sir, may I give you a recommendation when making similar tests in the future, and please take this as constructive criticism from a native Bulgarian who is a naturalized American. When making such proficiency language tests, you should stress on grammar above all and not idioms and vocabulary so much. Why? Well, because idioms can be universal, but they can also be area specific, and unless a person is from that area, he may have never come across it. So that by itself cannot be a proficiency indicator. Stress mostly on grammar. You wouldn't understand for example " My day was boss, but on the way home the road was chock-a-block so I couldn't get to the store to buy some scran so I've got a cob-on now and am really not made up.", would you? But that doesn't mean you aren't proficient. That simply means you have never been exposed to scouse. Get my point bro?
I appreciate your feedback- but what you're referring to here is slang, not idioms. The idioms and vocabulary that I've included in this video are understood throughout the English-speaking world. And while I hear your point about focusing on grammar, an understanding of grammar alone is not a accurate means to assess proficiency. Many native English speakers, in fact, struggle with using advanced grammar. Thanks again for your thoughts.
@@BrianWilesLanguages Grammar is the foundation my friend. Without knowing grammar, even if you knew all the words in the dictionary, you wouldn't be able to communicate at all. I am talking about both idioms and slang. Not just slang. But proficiency above all means great grammar, not knowing many words or expressions. You can't build a house without foundation, can ya?

Hey, I scored 10/10 at the beginner level and 8/10 each at the intermediate and advanced levels. Now I'm unsure of my overall level. I also have a question for you: although I can write English proficiently and understand it when spoken, I struggle to speak fluently. I often stumble and find it challenging. Keeping in mind that there are no native speakers in my country, how can I improve my spoken English skills?
9/10 correct answers at advanced level, yet one question remains: Wouldn't the 9th question at beginner level also be correct in the sense of "I started learning French before my 7th birthday?" Nice video, keep up the great work! ✌

I always thought that the terms " base form & infinitive " are the same and could be used interchangeably. Thanks you corrected this
Sure, “to go” is the infinitive form, “go” is the base form. So, they’re very similar, but the infinitive includes “to”.
I've got the C2 numbers correct. However, I still need to improve in some particular areas to set my English a little bit more at a higher level.
You're creative and genius.Thanks a million 😊😊😊😊😊
These gramar and idiom questions are capable to estimate c1 or c2 tops. Proficiency is much more about understanding and reading complex texts and being able to deal with it. Texts and gramar and limited. That’s why IELTS is with another person talking to you and asking you things and making you describe things.

Well I’m a 30 year old, college educated, and fairly smart native English speaker, and I just learned that I didn’t know the real definitions of precocious OR presumptuous.
I thought presumptuous was like “prematurely assuming” (but as an adjective) and I thought precocious was like snooty. I’m shook lol
I’d say your definition of ‘presumptuous’ is actually spot on!
I got a C2 even though I got a B2-C1 in an official Cambridge english test a month ago. I think this video is way easier than the actual level because of the vocabulary and other parts besides grammar.
