      That's a great point made at the end of the vid that i can't stress enough to people: most expensive games were once cheap and sometimes common. Time renders them in a different light sometimes, i remember seeing pretty much all of these for $20 back in the day.

      I have a great collection for the Dreamcast but am missing still quite a bit but even have some imports many manuals and even some of the odd things like the bags and my bro has quite a few of the rear ones and even a kiosk of the Dreamcast but if you are needing some games for your collection let me know I have some duplicates but I would need to know what you need and what would you suggest for my collection that I have of these systems: Sega Systems:Dreamcast, Game Gear, Genesis, Saturn. Nintendo Systems: Nes, Snes, Gameboy Advance, Wii, Ds, 3ds, Game Cube, Nintendo 64. PlayStation Systems: Ps, Ps2, Psp 1000 and 2000. Xbox Systems: Xbox 360. Atari/ColicoVision Systems: ColicoVision and Adam Computer with built in ColicoVision with floppy disc reader for dragons lair and even plays buck rogers on cassette tape plus the Atari 2600 attachment module 1, and last but not least Atari 5200 with the 4 controller ports. what games do you suggest to get and what do you think I should do for my collection as I keep collecting on them.

    The Dreamcast did not deserve to crash and burn. Sega made so many terrible decisions prior, dooming the Dreamcast.

      It was really the ease of piracy and the PS2 that killed it. Windows CE was a double edged sword, because it's why it was so easy to develop and optimize for, but it also left it wide open.

    • @dexter_johnson

      Sega did it to themselves...just reading Console Wars really gives you perspective to the misstep after misstep that lead up to Dreamcast.
      Still my favorite system ever.

    • @drowningin
      @drowningin 6 лет назад +3

      @@SotNist the windows version had nothing to do with it to start. You could literally burn the games and play them there was no disc or software protection implemented. It released around the same time CD burners became super inexpensive and common as the alternative was zip disks and expensive standalone hard drives or floppy. Windows ce has no user/file rights besides hide and read only but without user rights like Unix anyone could change even those 2 things

    • @SotNist
      @SotNist 6 лет назад +2

      Games which utilized the Windows CE and DIrect X SDK option had the operating system on the disc. I think it was designed to be receptive with this in mind, and ended up just being completely wide open to boot discs and ISO's because of it.

    • @mynthon0
      @mynthon0 6 лет назад +1

      mushy, you're wrong. There was copy protection (obviously), it was just relatively easy to bypass it. The reason why you can play burned discs on unmodded systems is that the "program," or whatever you call it, is already on those ISOs you download from the net.

    Capcom invested a lot on the dreamcast cuz it was the closest hardware to arcades back in the day.
    The Dreamcast architecture was close or identical to the Naomi arcade boards that capcom had used for their own games such as: Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Project Justice and Power Stone. It was reasonably simple to port.
    They also released updated versions of games. Plasma Sword (Star Gladiator 2) and Tech Romancer in arcades ran on a PS1 based arcade board, yet they got amped up releases on Dreamcast with reworked models and effects.
    The Dreamcast was also the only system at the time that could properly handle CPS3 games such as Warzard/Red Earth, SFIII and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

    • @wdcain1

      I wondered why Capcom supported the DC. Back during it's self life, I thought they wanted to merge with Sega.
      Shame Red Earth never got a home release.

    • @chrislaivier8459
      @chrislaivier8459 4 года назад

      See... that's the part i don't get. Why pay hundreds for 3rd Strike, JoJo, Gigawing2, etc. when you can buy a $10 clip and easily play the arcade originals minus the DC's loading times but plus the unported ones like Red Earth + Strider 2 on basically any mobile with Mame4droid and just hook up your XBone/PS4/Pro-Pad via Bluetooth ? It's like getting a NeoGeo CD game when you already have free lifetime access to the original Arcade Board... ? Get the system's exclusives ? Absolutely. Get the overpriced multi-system releases too ? If money is not an issue, why would I blame you ? But if you're on a budget it can can save you lots amounts of money if you purchase them on either another system (e.g. Gamecube) or if you look up the games on Steam first. Even system exclusives from way back then tend to pop up there sooner or later (thinking of Crimson Skies and Fable on the 1st Xbox for example)

    • @clawofthefallen
      @clawofthefallen 4 года назад +1

      @@chrislaivier8459 for some people it isn't a matter of accessibility. I mean. Anybody can get an emulator and run the games. But collectors like having and owning the real deal, specially if it's a piece of history or something that really has personal investment. Sometimes it's not about being able to play it, even. It's a phenomenon akin to art and collectibles. Some are into the feeling of having something rare, something limited, something that doesn't exist anymore, the item gets a mystique to it as if it's an artifact.

      I bought it new back in the days. Survival Horror buff here. Really wanted to love it. Couldn't figure it out, dismissed it as trash, traded it back in to EB for something else. Or maybe I just got cash back to buy a bag of weed or something (you could do that back then). Around 2005-ish I read a positive review on it on the net somewhere, and was just getting back into Dreamcast, so I scooped it back up on eBay. It was so long ago I don't remember what I paid, but I know I didn't pay anymore than $20 for it. Figured out the mechanics, played through it, and beat it. A cool, fun, unique game that suffers from some broken and clunky mechanics here and there that make the experience more frustrating than it needed to be. But there's nothing else like it, and it's definitely better than Blue Stinger. I'm glad I gave it another shot, and glad I got a copy long before the prices for everything got stupid.

    The demise of Sega after the Dreamcast is like an unhealing wound for me.. when it came out back in 99’ i bought one day 1 and I convinced my two best friends to buy a console each so the 3 of us would play these games to death, usually having all weekend gaming marathons. Phantasy Star, sonic adventure, RE code Veronica, house of the dead, shenmue, project justice & powerstone were all amazing games that blew us away. There’s just so many fun games on the DC! After Sega called it quits a part of me died. I stupidly traded in my old consoles and library of games but after 2008 I stopped and have now amassed a pretty sweet collection. The Dreamcast will always have a place in my heart.

      Beautiful comment. I felt every word you said. My Dreamcast experience was very different, but the console still has a special place in my heart. I'm from Germany and the sad thing was, that I missed the release of the DC completely.
      Not sure, if it generally was like this in Germany, but at least in my small town, this console was nowhere to be found. No advertisements and nobody was selling it. The other thing was, I lost interest in gaming back then and didn't read any magazines anymore. Many other stuff was going on in my life.
      So I discovered the DC much later - and fell in love with it. It's probably one of the best consoles of its era and even today it offers lots of fun. The saddest thing perhaps is to think of all the potential that was wasted when they discontinued the DC much too early. Like with many consoles some of the best games are released in the later years, when developers are already experienced enough to use the full capacaties of the hardware. Sadly that never happened for the DC.
      But still I have the feeling, that especially in recent years, the DC fanbase is growing even more. So at least it'll live on for this loyal fanbase and will not be forgotten.
      Greetings from Germany :)

He ended up giving it to me when me when he went to college and I just recently found the console! I had found all the controllers, cables, and memory units but I could not find the console and thought it was lost in a move. I’m dying to set it up and play again but I don’t have a TV that will connect to it and haven’t looked into a way to connect it to a modern TV. which jojo anime series did you like better? phantom blood/battle tendency with Hamon techniques, or Stardust Crusaders with the use of stands? I think i'm in the minority that i actually prefer the first season with the stone mask, fighting a sudo vampire-like dio and then the Pillar Men.

      Are they really that bad? Look at the current state of AAA gaming and major Japanese developers/publishers. They are certainly much better than Konami. RE7 is apparently solid (haven't played it yet), new Mega Man and RE2. Seems to me that they have actually improved from last-gen.

    • @wowgek7
      @wowgek7 6 лет назад

      wel to me they are I dont forget what they did that fast
      on disc dlc
      the street fighter 5 debackle
      canceling of megamen legends 2 and that other megaman game and not telling the truth why but just ly.
      etc
      it will take a long time for them to redeem themself to me
      o wait actualy they cant redeem themself because I am about to quit gaming at least for new consoles
      the one I wouldt want in my house if they payd me for it
      the switch is crap the only positive about it is the lack of regionlock
      the ps4 is way too digital and they are pretty much forcing you to pay for online.
      so what modern gaming is conderned I am out

      wowgek7 Good comment. I'm strictly retro on new consoles and only either play retro collections or stuff with a retro aestetic. Nothing about any Xbox has ever appealed to me save Rare Replay but I can emulate all those anyway. The Switch would need something like an exclusive Castlevania before I'd remotely even think about it. But I love my Wii U and 3DS cos of the VC stuff and Nintendo are not taking that over to Switch. My PS4 was a forced purchase after my PS3 was stolen and while it's got some decent retroish stuff (Genesis / MD Collection, Reverie, Undertale) I flippin hate the lack of backwards compatibilty (even if only PS1) and the fact I used to play online Street Fighter and PES on my PS3 for nothing and I have to have a PS+ Membership for that now (and I refuse to take one out of principle).

    • @wowgek7
      @wowgek7 6 лет назад

      adz693 wel the games the switch has arent the problem for me because there is enough that I like. however I hate motioncontrolls and I want my physical complete on the card some switch games you have to download half of the game to even play it (not talking about dlc or patches)
      I also dont want all those lose parts either.
      at this moment the switch hardware wise is probatly my least favorite console ever made.
      I refuse to pay for online if I buy a game I should be able to play the whole thing without extra costs and people saying but sony and microsoft do it too are retards
      just because they do it doesnt make it right to do so. thats like 1 of the worst arguments ever.
      oh well at least I still have many vita 3ds ds and psp games to collect afterwards before they get as expensive as nes games for example.

At one point I owned over 200 (which is the majority of the US library) games for the system. Sold most of it when I was pretty much done with it. Still have the hardware (including keyboard, mouse, vga box, loads of vmu's..) and the first Shenmue. I'm glad I didn't miss out on this back in the day. Such a great system. this was a great video but its also a sad video because it basically without trying shows you just how awesome and creative a game company could be when production cost were lower no one was whining at them and there were a lot less restrictions as to what they were allowed to do. capcom you were such an amazing company and in some ways still are but now it feels like it all comes down to "were only gonna do it if were totally sure its gonna bringing big profits" which is understandable because this is how they make there living ..... just kinda sad same time. was so happy when they started doing re releases of mega man collections and announced mm11 at same time a while back they did that dark stalkers remastered collection saying if it did well wed get a new darkstalkers ....... well it made profit but they wanted massive profit so never ended up happening :\ capcom give me my new darkstalkers and start revisiting ideas like you did back in dreamcast days :p new power stone would be nice ahahaha. sorry for the little rant everyone i just over react sometimes when its something i love and wold love to see more of.

      I Trust in Capcom to be very patient.
      I mean they are holding on to so many great games which are essentially done, like Megaman Legends 3 or Megaman Universe, but *they needed to wait until Comcept would fail so they could announce Megaman 11* and reignite the francise.
      *Also Devil May Cry will be getting a part 5 now after the reboot ranting finally calmed down and fans are willing to accept a new title.*
      Capcom needs to “stay alive“ somehow but they are still doing great stuff, but for some things you need to be very patient as the community might eat you alive if you rush a highly desired game...

    I had my DC collection, along with my N64 and PlayStation collection stolen from my apartment back @2002. We had insurance, so I was able to replace 99% of what was stolen, but I never replaced GigaWing 2 and Power Stone 2. I also remember seeing Tech Romancer being sold at GameStop for 99 cents, but I'd passed on it, because it didn't look like a very good game.

    I still remember buying Mars Matrix and Giga Wing 2, together, new at FuncoLand for $20 a piece. Only better DC buy I had was finding Bangai -o for $5 at Walmart.

    I bought from my local gamestore a few months ago a Factory sealed copy of Metropolis Street Racer for $20 for a gift to a cousin. Had I known better, it could've been worth about $60, but he at least enjoys the game since he's a racing gamer.

If so thats pretty dumb to get mad at when they're are channels that are constantly pushing their patreons and have poor quality vids. If its something else i apologise and i await to be educated on the issue. Good day to you.

    Urban Chaos is one of the rarest games on the system hands down. Finding a complete copy in good shape can be tough. As of this posting for example, there are 7 complete copies of Urban Chaos on Ebay and 22 complete copies of Project Justice, 13 Mars Matrix, 11 Power Stone 2, 11 Cannon Spike. It has been under the radar for years, yet no body talks about it. Great video guys, and keep up them coming. :)

    Man, I remember staying up all night playing Tech Romancer back in 2001-2002 because I had convinced myself that there was a full length anime movie hidden somewhere in the game and I just needed to keep playing to unlock it!

    You guys need to shop for these games in Canada cause Tech Romancers in my area is selling for 30$ and Project Justice for about 50$ to 60$.

    Tech Romancer was my most played DC game. Played the arcade version at a ski lodge in Wisconsin, came home, had my dad get it on the cheap. My copy is in rough shape, but still plays well.

    I was surprised to learn that my copy of Tech Romancer sells for what it does, discovered that out about a year ago; same goes for Illbleed.

    I think that Capcom were using Sega's Naomi board for some of their arcade ports which was basically a Dreamcast with extra rom, so it was easy to port their titles to Dreamcast.
    Even with stuff using Capcom's own hardware would have been easy to port too because of their working knowledge of the Naomi's/Dreamcast's hardware.

    I have a couple of these games. But what I think is my rarest piece is a Dreamcast binder that would of been given to shareholders. It talks about the features, release, and future of the Dreamcast among other things.

      I got Power Stone 2 super cheap, and then went back and got the original.
      Actually, several of these games mentioned cost me under $30 a piece. I remember getting several of the fighting games when a used game store was closing down.

    I bought Phantasy Star Online from a seller at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo which was supposed to come with a Sonic Adventure 2 demo on a second disc. To my surprise when I got home and opened the case there was no SA2 demo, instead a mint copy of Tech Romancer was in there and I only paid $8 for Phantasy Star. I still have no case or instructions for it but I'm always on the hunt for it.

    I am happy with the fact that I have absolutely no desire to collect games that I don't find really fun. Like I would never spend money on that sonic version because it's a shitty half finished game that I would never play. If I had to have every game that just so happened to be rare I don't think the hobby would be much fun
