i like how metal jesus shows us games he personally enjoys rather than the same old mario and final fantasy games that everyone shows us
Ikr he’s not super biased
I mean everyone already knows those games lol why would he mention them
Gotta admit that most of those games carried the system
I agree I enjoy his presentation
@H W the point is that he is giving us his actual opinion instead of reading a metacritic list, plus anyone who watches him probably have at least heard of those
CORRECTION: I meant to say Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is the first HANDHELD game in the series with full English voices. Sorry for the confusion ;)
Metal Jesus do u have a gaming channel it would b awesome 2 watch u play
awe correcting yourself, now how am I supposed to make a raging comment about how you didn't know something... :)
What a glaringly obvious mistake. When I first heard that, I literally exploded into the atmosphere on a cloud burst of incredulou disbelief and anger. I left the stratosphere and was almost frozen completely solid in space before slowly falling backwards and then plummeting to the ground. Your correction makes things right again though. But damn.
you are by far the best gaming youtuber keep it up man
Off topic regarding games, but have you listened to the latest Amorpbis album 'Queen of Time'? It is a frikken masterpiece.
The DS library was amazing. Even the shovelware was great. It was actually this handheld that got me back into gaming because of how much its variety reminded me of DOS gaming.
Nintendo DS talk in 2018? Yes please!!!
watching in 2019
2019
Nintendo DS needs more love. It is one of the most sold Consoles and has a huge amount of Games. But overall not many talk about it. If you look up here on RUclips when someone talks about DS Games and take out Pokemon Mario Zelda and Kirby, then there is not that much left.
2019 love ds
Playing NDS in 2019!
Such a wonderful system. The DS and Wii got me back into gaming after an absence since the SNES era
Why you skip the n64 & gamecube era?
Same here, had a snes then didn't game for years. Got a Wii then a ds lite and have been gaming ever since. The Gameboy was fly back I'm it's day.
@Michael O Callaghan you do know the ds came out before xbox 360, ps3 and xbox one and ps4 right?
Jonathan Hill I wanted a PS1 but my parents wouldn’t buy it for me because it was too expensive and I wasn’t playing my SNES much anymore so they thought I would lose interest in the PS1 after awhile too. I just got away from gaming after that and didn’t get back into it until after college.
Same. I was too busy in latter high school and college
So, so happy watching this! Please make. More videos about the DS and the 3DS
Nice dude! Including that footage is impressive.
Radical Reggie we need some pickups soon
Rocket Slime, Chocobo Tales, and Dragon Quest Monsters Joker were all hidden gems for the DS imo.
+1 for DQMJ
Thank you very much for being able to include "Solatorobo: Red The Hunter" in this video, and it is definitely one underrated game released on the Nintendo DS that deserves more recognition for its cast of appealing characters and surprisingly deep story! :D
Fun video with quite a few games that I didn't know about or forgot that they existed. The DS really deserves more love and recognition.
Orcs and Elves and The Dark Spire looked amazing. If you're interested in similar games I can recommend the Etrian Odyssey series as well. Those are Japanese style dungeon crawlers wherein you draw your own map with the stylus. EO 1 and 2 even had enhanced remakes for the 3DS, but EO 3 is exclusive to the DS.
As for other great games on the system that I can wholeheartedly recommend there are:
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Advance Wars: Dark Conflict
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Shin Monshou no Nazo (remakes of FE 1 and 3 on the DS, FE 2 was remade for the 3DS)
I'm so happy you've mentioned Ghost Trick! It's one of my favorite games, the animations are outstanding!
But for some reason it doesn't appear too often on NDS lists...
Great video as always man, very nice work!
I admire the educational, fun and diverse content you produce. You do
your homework, and seem to have a real luv for what you do. You also
realise the importance of the support, interaction and contibution from
friends and collegues, and vice versa. Jason....always a pleasure to
spend time here.
Wow, I never knew that impossible mission was on the DS. Great vid.
I just found your chanel and I freaking love it man,you have a loyal subscriber now.
YAYAY! Welcome ;)
He's definitely worth subbing to, great friendly informational content 😁🤘
I salute you sir! This list neatly filled out my remaining NDS games to collect. You deserve all the credit in the world!
Freaking awesome video, MJ! Love these compilation videos and the DS has SO many good games. Thanks for showcasing the highlights!
6:04 : "Tierkreis" is german and pronounced "tear-cries", which means the "zodiac" area of the sky
Idk about that, we germans call zodiac "Sternzeichen". Never heard the term Tierkreis before.
I feel like the German language has the same foreign, exotic appeal in Japanese culture as English for Germans. Germans often use English titles, phrases, names, etc. just because it's vaguely familiar, but still foreign.
@@Unplanted you have a point, germans absolutely love using words like "cool", "loser" and "bye".
You never heard "Tierkreiszeichen"? Odd.
@@JakonDeluxe no, never. Everyone I know uses the word Sternzeichen.
Finally a featured video on my favourite handheld system!
This is perfect! I’ve been combing through the ds titles to figure out which to get. Thanks metaljesus
Really glad you make these videos man I have suikoden tierkreis and the original Chrono trigger and Chrono cross but I didn't know they made Chrono trigger for ds
20:30 I see you got Hotel Dusk there, nice.
Should have the sequel, The Secret Window as well :)
The DS was an amazing console, rivaling anything Nintendo did before or since.
It's probably going to go down as the greatest handheld ever. So many games.
It really is a fantastic handheld with literally hundreds of great games for it!
a prime example of development > power
Certainly the DS is a great little console with some fantastic games. But in my mind, it's highly debatable that it's as good or as groundbreaking as the GBA.
I agree, my friend. I play my GBA SP AGS-101, DS Lite and NEW 3DS XL almost everyday, but I still think the DS is my favorite out of the three.
Thanks for making this video, I just recently got into the DS and 3DS and have been looking for some games to get for the DS and this video had a lot of games that I'll certainly be looking into.
Orcs and Elves! Yes! I bought that on your recommendation and I love it. Great video man! So happy I got to be alive during the entire DS lifespan.
Just checked on my DS collection. It's in the high hundreds and one of my favorite systems in my collection of thousands. Some great games for sure.
Thanks for all your work man! Your viewers appreciate all the hours of content you've given us. The time you invest shows. Thanks so much man!
You are the man ! Thanks dude. I have very fond memories of the ds so much so that I have recently bought one of eBay to replay some of the games I enjoyed when I was younger. I'm 36 and really enjoy retro gaming
This one is very cool! I appreciate the effort. I am currently into collecting for GBA, DS and 3DS, so this is very fitting. Thanks, man! You ROCK!
I loove the DS...this was the first console I paid with my own money from my first job :)
My first console I bought from my first job was a new 3ds xl
Me to, I bought the dsi xl in 2010 and haven't stopped playing it since
mine was a gba but I got it in 2019 :v
Mine was a watermelon red n64 and I got it in 2019
Idk why but this comment gave such an adorable vibe
I just started collecting for the DS. Still playing them on the original 2DS but has been blown away by how many good games are on it. I’ve paid it more than my Switch.
I like the way you presented this list, having the box art next to gameplay footage was a nice touch.
This video could not have come out at a better time for me. I just picked up a DS lite on Ebay a few weeks ago and only have two games right now. Thanks for the video!
40 days left. Metal jesus-radical Reggie 3 hours Super Christmas special pickups episode/movie. Like and make it happen
I need that, a movies/special episode on Christmas finds/game pickups etc. Would be so cool ! :D
Hell yes!! Totally agree
LOL that's a good idea actually!
As Arnold would say........Do it now! xD lol
@@MetalJesusRocks hahahaha im asking this in every episode
10:44 There's a homebrew translation of the Retro Game Challenge sequel, of course only playable on Original DS & DS Lite.
@@Meachumz Original DS or DS Lite only, playable via flash cart or custom standalone cartridges sometimes available from online sellers. I hope that's helpful.
@@Meachumz You're welcome. It is possible to play on PC with an emulator. It didn't occur to me earlier because I prefer original hardware.
Just found my Ben 10 Alien Force Nintendo DS 2 weeks ago, and I'm ready to relive my childhood. Bingewatching all your DS videos is my first step!
Thank's metal jesus, you rock. Yesterday I woke up the old DS Lite after more than a year, and the battery was still able to run some game's. You always get me inspired to try some obscure new game's, and they all are 💎
Impressive collection
Awesome video!!! I was just watching your 3 older DS hidden gems videos with Kinzey...how crazy!
I've been subscribed to you for YEARS but not sure how the hell I missed this video! lots of awesome games I haven't tried for the DS! I'll have to add some of these to my collection...
I liked this video, showing off some good not so hidden and hidden gems along with your favorites in your collection.
would love to see more with more consoles like the Wii,Ps1,PC,etc.
I remember when I used to think Ghost Trick wasn't really that good and it was a circlejerky thing but I just recently bit the bullet and played through it-- the game's AMAZING.
"You play as a dog that pilots a mech."
Well, ok. Thats fine.
I love how you always change the footage of The intro, makes me wonder about all those things, like that huuge gamecube, love your videos Metal Jesus, keep rocking
The World Ends with You is my favorite game of all time! I’m so glad you gave it a time in the spotlight! Dang, the DS has a good lineup! 👍
I was waiting for Devil Survivor, like there’s no way Metal Jesus hasn’t played it, and bam flashes in the last 30sec lol
The DS and PSP are my favorite handhelds
Same
DS > psp
Hey Metaljesusrocks, just wanted to say that I live the new intro you did. Its freaking bad ass! Much love brother!
So I collect for the DS (almost 300 complete games I think) and I gotta say, this is an impressive collection. I also learned of a game I'd never heard of in Impossible Mission, so thanks for that!
a DS game i love, but don't often hear about is Etrian Oddysey. it's a fun exploration (almost walking simulator) action adventure RPG. i played the ROM file for Etrian Oddysey III so much, i had to go buy the collector's edition of Etrian Oddysey V for the 3DS when it was released, totally reccomend any title in this franchise!
But rom players don't support Nintendo
@@johnlawful2272 not all of em
@@johnlawful2272 Buying a game from a scalper doesn’t either
The "coming soon" sleeve looks like it's a promotional display sleeve. Shops get sent loads of these display sleeves to advertise upcoming games (and also for new games so that sealed copies don't have to be opened to create a shop display). The sleeves are sent out loose and the shop puts them into boxes themselves. Shops that sell second-hand games sometimes use these sleeves to replace damaged or missing sleeves for their second-hand games. The actual game cartridge will be the same as any other copy out there, it was never supposed to be paired with that promotional sleeve.
^This
Funny you bring this up. I have just started to go back and get some top rated DS titles and must haves. Great titles.
Great video MJ! I recently got a 2DS XL and was surprised to find I mostly play DS games on it. They run great on the system! Also Metroid Pinball
Golden Sun Dark Dawn and Orcs and Elves are definitely my favorite DS rpgs.
I had no idea about Sola to Robo. I loved Tail Concerto. I will have to check out Bangi-O as well. That one looks like a lot of fun.
I was able to buy my copy of "Solatorobo: Red The Hunter" at a local GameStop back in 2011, and I still have it in my Nintendo DS library as well as the CD soundtrack that came bundled with it. ^^
I love the DS/3DS, my favorite portable hands down. Thanks for the video, many games I have never heard of!
Love the Highlight format, this just what is needed for platform beginners
The DS Lite was my favorite portable system.
My Collection so far:
DS: 61+
GBA: 54+
What no Cory in the House DS? Blasphemy!
Ahh it is one of the best anime games of our generation
They don't show it because RUclips gamers can't handle it's glory.
I just bought Orces & Elves from your reccomendation and I'm having a wonderful time! thank you so much
Thank you! I got my 3DS a few years ago but always seemed preoccupied with my PS3/PS4; this year I started playing again along with my Switch and I am amazed at how big the library is for DS and 3DS! :)
I’m not sure if your into old Japan exclusive games. But one of my all time most nostalgic games for me is is a game called Sangokushi Taisen. It’s a game where u collect physical cards, play them on a machine and using the cards you would control virtual battalions in a battlefield. It was honestly the coolest thing to me. Turns out they made a few ds games (all in Japanese only) and it’s brought back so many memories although I don’t speak Japanese so it’s very difficult to play. I was wondering if you’ve heard of them or could take a look into them. They’re seriously great games. Honestly in my opinion it may be the most under appreciated game of all time and if the game was ever introduced to American markets I’m positive it would be a major title today. Sadly there is almost no information about the game today
Still play my ds copy of chrono trigger it’s a great translation
rorz999. It is
Best version out there..
I love these videos, always find another "new" game to play, even though they are years and years old now, I hadnt hesrd of or played .Ny of them. Awesome!
I love your guys' attention to the DS!!
Suikoden: Tierkreis. It is a German word and is pronounced like "Tear + cries" and means "Tier=animal" and "Kreis=circle/cycle/sphere".
^^
Regarding your Ys DS case, my suspicion is that the game is probably the regular game from when it was released, but the case (especially since you got it second hand) is probably one of those cases at like a Gamestop that they show off on the shelves for preorders. So someone matched a cart with a promo case, instead of the actual one. I could be wrong.
This make sense to me.
Ah...yeah, thats probably what it is. Thanks!
@@MetalJesusRocks my pleasure. Thanks for creating great content
I can confirm this practice, it was common for people to trade in used DS carts without a case, so if we happened to have the promo box art laying around we would do that, as opposed to having to make a generic cover art.
You are 100% correct.
Great video, my sons and I totally rock the DS. Even with several switch’s in the house we still fall back to the DS all the time! Also side note- are the old school interviews coming back again cause those were awesome!! Perfect for listening to on shift between calls!!
Thank you SO MUCH for making this video man!!! It's my favourite system ever, I think!!!
I had The Dark Spire, i regret that i sold it :(
Same. CIB with soundtrack. Had I kept it I could sell it for some good $ after running thru it again
Just hack yo ds
Always love the videos man, keep it up!
Amazing video, just what i was waiting to see on your channel! thank you soo much :D
I really love to play on my ds and 3ds, because there are some weird (as different and fun) games that aren't anywhere else, and it is nice to see some i didn't know on your channel :D
Keep up the good work on this amazing channel :D
These highlight videos have been so useful. Whenever I need to… acquire new games, I turn to these videos.
What an amazing gaming system the Nintendo DS was.
yup, not a gimmick like many ppl wouldve thought, instead they had a unique theme and the games were made for the theme, just like the 3DS as of today.
When I go on holiday I always take my dsi xl with mario kart.
Mariokart is awesome. Always a good time, and love the ds version with the mission mode, tons of fun!
Nice collection with lots of hidden gems! Speaking of hidden gems, one game that blew me away back then because its mechanics and story were so unique was Infinite Space. I don't see it mentioned at all in compilations which leads me to believe it's probably not that well known but it's definitely worth checking out. Especially if you like the idea of exploring space in your own star ship.
Thanks for recommending Orcs & Elves, having a blast with it!
If you're collecting for the DS, you NEED to check out Fossil Fighters. It's such a fantastic hidden gem! (pun intended) and I hardly ever see anybody talk about it.
Sounds good
I used to really want that game when I was younger I world always play the demo from the Wii Nintendo channel. Sadly I never got the game 😔
I'm currently playing Fossil Fighters on my DS right now.
The DS was a like a super powered SNES with 3D abilities .
It is mostly like N64 with lower screen resolution
One of my all time favorite consoles. Amazing how much they were able to fit into these tiny marvels
I swear, your the best RUclipsr on RUclips, all your vids keep me interested, keep making em and I'll keep watching, great work!
My favorite DS game I think is still Rocket Slime adventure.
Such a fun charming game.
I had to import it as it was never released in Europe but super worth it.
Yes. That fame is incredible
I love this game!
What's that one about?
It's kind of Zelda meets Tower Defense. You play the overworld adventure sections as a slime, and has to recruit other team members to help pilot your giant slime mecha tank. And then you get into mech battles and have to defend your tank from an incoming onslaught of enemies.
I regret selling Pac N Roll
Amazing, I will watch that right away. I have all the DS and 3DS games I wanted, over a hundred. I will see if my favorites on the DS are there or if I can find new ones I want perhaps.
Excellent video thanks again. Thats a great varied collection. I love the DS, it was subject to tons of shovel ware though. My DSi is a bit tired now. Have started collecting some more games though. Considering upgrading to a 2ds xl though, especially given the BWs compatibility!
I miss the days when MJR said "I'm back again"
I see you have Mario and Luigi it’s the best game
Thank you Jesus actually i was looking for what games plays in my ds lite and with list i have for a very long time ! You the best as always!!
I really enjoy watching these videos typically bc I didn't know there were so many DS games out there, makes me want to buy one.
congrats on 600,000 subs. you deserve to be in the millions
😂
Did I really cross 600K?! LOL awesome!
Agreed. My favourite gaming channel :) The fact that he is a fellow metalhead and vinyl enthusiast does not hurt :)
@@MetalJesusRocks Congratulations dude :D
TWEWY best DS game of all time.
Yeah, I love the soundtrack!
I can second that notion! Such an amazing game! 🥰
Great video! It's truly amazing how many games are available to play on the 3DS with DS games backwards compatible. It's sad the 3DS/DS run is coming to an end.
no matter what, I will always hold a special place in my heart for the Ds. Love the video!!!
Nice collection, dude!
Puyo Pop Fever is my favorite DS game ever. Check it out, if you haven't already!
Puyo Pop Fever. Funny story that game is a multiplat, but North America only got the DS and GameCube versions.
The Puyo Puyo series are some of my most imported games, next to the Picross games!
No shoutout to the ace attorney series? :(
You should send him the game maybe he never heard of them
@@johnlawful2272 he mentioned it at the very start of the video when he explained ghost trick since it was made by the same person
@@johnlawful2272 actually he does have the game, see 20:27
Bro I love the DS and I love your channel name! Thank you for the amazing and unique list. Subbed
Glad you did this one. Ive been buying ds games like no other. I needed a few prospects.
No Super Robot Taisen?
Its not that popular, so maybe he didn't have it.
Its impossible to collect old games in sweden everything is like 10 times more expensive
Ikr
Same in Australia
They got pay those taxes
I live in Finland and I usually buy my retro games from flea markets and retro game facebook groups. Sometimes I find great games for just few euros.
they don't have internet in sweden? you could try ordering from a country where it's 10 times cheaper. just a tip.
So pleased to see Professor Layton show up at the end. Loved the series, artist, storyline, etc. One of my only favourite puzzle series.
Thanks for making this video Jason! You rock and rule!
