Durable too. I found one in my mid 20's while doing demo in an abandoned house. It was buried in a mound of crap and looked disgusting. I was not into video games like I am now but took it home, cleaned it up, got cords and stuff and picked up RE code veronica and it fired right up. Still works to this day. Its funny, that system is what got me back into gaming, I quit around 16.

Bomberman Online - I love bomberman. 10. Unreal Tournament - Great multiplayer
Soul Calibur was the greatest generational leap in graphics on consoles I have ever seen. I loved the Dreamcast and it was worth every dollar I paid for it back in 9/9/99.
Dreamcast was so under appreciated, I remember some guy laughing in my face back in the day when I said I had one and they were good. 19 years later, I stand by that!
I don’t think it was under appreciated at all. It sold incredibly well for such a short life. And by the time they were reducing the price, everyone had one. It was just a horrifically unfortunate system that couldn’t stand up to the Sony lies about the PS2 and what it could do. I think there are still people who think that the ps2 has hidden “unlocked” ability that developers haven’t “figured out how to use” yet. That was always the line at the time.
Thats why we are leaders true gamers not fanboys or bandwagons that get on the train of what popular at the moment.I remeber being saving money for a car and could not resist it boom sega dreamcast with house of the dead day one, why would i need a car if i was a prisionerof that console amazing
The Dreamcast is my favourite "drinking" console. A few beers playing NFL Blitz, Crazy Taxi, 3rd Strike, such a great console for fast paced action games.
I remember when I was in sixth grade my best friend got a Dreamcast right when they came out and he had Soul Caliber and Sonic Adventure. I remember spending hours in his house playing those games. Spending the night every weekend if I could. Daydreaming in class about it. So many good memories!
After watching this I realized what sets your channel apart. You’re an awesome story teller. There’s hundreds of gaming RUclips’s who rail off a bunch of boring emotionless facts about the DC, but can never serve the unique feeling of having a Dreamcast in the early 2000s. Your stories brought me back to 99 when I was a giddy little kid who experienced the magic of the Dreamcast just like you. Thanks for the video man
A lot of the feelings you had are exactly what my experience was like when I got my Dreamcast (because the PS2 was sold out). I just have to say it's awesome seeing someone love gaming like you do. Great video!
9/9/99 still stands as one of my fondest video game memories. Sonic Adventure and SoulCalibur blew my 11 year old mind all over the carpet. It took my mom weeks to clean up the brain matter.
Dreamcast was the last, and will likely stay that way, machine that I waited in line for at the midnight launch of the console, it was genuinely amazing how good everything looked on that console, I remember I bought NFL 2k, Soul Caliber, Blue Stinger and Sonic Adventure all that first night, seriously such an amazing system, with such an incredible library considering it's short life.
Crazy Taxi is so simple in concept, but in application it has incredible depth. With all the special moves that can be performed, along with knowing who to pick up, and when - allowing yourself to always be moving forward and performing full 'laps' around the city. Legendary game. Infinitely replayable.
About 6 years ago my dreamcast kept restarting and dying, I couldn't let my memories die with it. So I took the time and replaced a few parts and had it working again. I still put more time in my dreamcast than my ps4 or PC. It definitely deserves a historic mention in a library.
Dreamcast graphics were so clean and sharp. It was a little disappointing seeing the PS2 dark and jagged graphics, especially in Tekken. Soul Calibur blew my mind with its sharpness and fluidity.
What was so amazing about the Dreamcast for me (and I'm sure many others) was the fact that a home console finally caught up to arcades. I picked up the s-video cable day one and couldn't believe how SoulCalibur looked. My original Dreamcast still works like a charm to this day.
Without a doubt my favorite gaming console ever. I've replayed Shenmue a bunch of times and sometimes when me and my friends hang out I bring out the Dreamcast and we play some Soul Calibur, still after all these years! I have a strange affinity to this machine
Never owned a dreamcast myself, but remember thinking back then, after seeing one in action, that consoles had finally graphically caught up to coin-op games from the arcades.

Dreamcast was amazing for its time, in the short amount of time it was on shelves Sega put everything they had into the system. One of the only consoles put on the market that didn't deserve to fail.
Love the Dreamcast ! Crazy decision time in my life with gaming because my older brother got the ps2 for Christmas which was awesome! But for me I wanted to be different so I saved up my allowance and went with the Dreamcast, and I loved it! I remember arguing with my brother on how the Dreamcast was better and how he made a bad decision on going with the ps2. 😂 which to this very day I still agree! The Dreamcast died way too soon ! But thank god it’s known as the zombie console and it’s still thinking! This console was so ahead of its time it! This is without a doubt my fave sega console ever! And that should say a lot because my fav console to this very day is the mighty ps1! But there’s something truly special about the Dreamcast that after the ps1 it made me switch gears and leave Sony for a moment .... ahhhh I love u Dreamcast. Thank u sega for leaving the hardware battle with a bang!!!! 💯
This is excellent timing, John! I just recently picked up a Dreamcast that came with a few odd throwaway games, but I just bought SoulCalibur and Shenmue within the last couple weeks. It's my first time playing both, and I'd love to dive further into the Dreamcast library. Thanks for the video!
you said it!!!!!!man, i can't believe has been 19 years since the release of the dreamcast time flies!!!!!!, great machine indeed with awesome memorable titles, thanks for this video it really made me travel back in time.
Dreamcast was so under appreciated at that time due to Sony created so much hype on PS 2 and Dreamcast was almost dead on arrival. It's just so sad..DC was a powerful machine and Sega in-house development teams took alot of risk to try something different from PS 1 games, just count how many great 1st party exclusive for this console! DC deserves a mini or classic treatment like NES or PS1.
The Dreamcast had some awesome light gun games like house of the dead 2, and I also spent hours playing sega bass fishing. Still play my copy of sega bass fishing.

Dreamcast will always be remembered and such a beautiful console with great nice graphics and games on there. I wish some of great games weren't cancelled like 10.Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex 9. Time Crisis II 8. Lost World Jurassic Park Arcade Game 7. GTA III 6. Half-Life 5. Virtua Fighter 4 4. Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3. Croc 2 2. Soul Calibur 2 1. Castelvania Resurrection. Best games of my list are: 10. Mortal Kombat Gold 9. Street Fighter III Double Impact 8. House of the Dead 2 7. Ms. PAC-MAN Maze madness 6. Soul Calibur 5. NBA Showtime NBA on NBC 4. Evolution The World of Scared Device 3. Rayman 2 2. Shenmue 1. Sonic Adventure
10.King of Fighters 99: Evolution 9. Dead of Alive 2 8. Marvel vs Capcom 2 7. Phantasy Star Online 6.Sonic Adventure 5. Cannon Spike 4. Power Stone 3. Soul Calibur 2. Virtua Fighter 3 1. Shenmue 2 I managed to play the European version of Shenmue 2 which had the japanese voices with English subtitles and for me that was the best videogame experience ever. It was such a big improvement over the 1st one and Sega not bringing it over to DC owners in North America is one of the biggest video game travesties of all time. Also, I consider Cannon Spike as well as Tempo on 32X two of my favorite most overlooked games of all time.
If you've never played it you'd probably hate it now. See the Jim Sterling review. The game makes you waste a LOT of time waiting on NPCs. Shenmue II isn't so bad.
It was the console that I always wanted back in the day. I remember playing Sonic Adventure for the first time in Zellers back in the day, it blew my mind at the time. My top 10. 1. Sonic Adventure
Dreamcast is a phenomenal system. Lots of memories, cannot pick just a few titles, each was it's own experience. Sweet top 10 list though. Sonic Adventure, PSO, Shemmue, JSR, KOF98, SF3, JBA, CvS, Grandia II, Ecco Just a few treasures, but there are so much more
My semi traumatic childhood Dreamcast Christmas: Back then I was OBSESSED with Tony Hawks Pro Skater and learning to skate myself. The Dreamcast did not seem very appealing to me since I was still quite enjoying my Nintendo 64. Then Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 got announced and was said to play and perform DRASTICALLY better on the Dreamcast… so… I had to beg for a Dreamcast and THPS 2 for Christmas that year because I was ultra hyped for that game at the time. Christmas morning rolls around and I open my Dreamcast at maximum excitement levels and proceed to open what I assumed was the game I wanted the system for. I tore it open and to my surprise I was presented with the game.. Rippin' Riders… which was a mediocre snowboarding game. I asked my parents why they got me this instead of THPS 2 and apparently they were up at the counter at the retail store, ready to purchase it and the guy at the counter warned them that the skater uses profanity when he crashes & that is why it is rated T… THIS WAS NOT EVEN TRUE! My parents were GREATLY against any forms of profanity what-so-ever and opted to put it back and proceeded to buy me Rippin' Riders… I never did get THPS 2 on Dreamcast, nor did I much care for the system & its selection of games overall. To this very day I still regularly think of this and mutter to myself… “Screw you retail guy… screw you…”
i had the same reaction with SC, i couldnt believe the graphics, it was clear a new generation had just arrived, i didnt get that same feeling again until y saw the first gears of wars, i started remembering when i was a kid playing super mario bros on the nes, and now wow these graphics, what the hell!!!
I hope we get more Dreamcast ports onto newer systems, its a console that defiantly shouldn't be forgotten. Ive always wanted to play Skies of Arcadia, i just don't think i can justify spending £100 on it. Maybe il just buy it, complete it and sell it again.
I remember renting the Japanese version of the Dreamcast months before the U.S. launch at Microplay with Virtua Fighter 3, Blue Stinger, Pen Pen Triathalon and Soul Calibur. I was blown away and had to have it right then and there so I bought the rental. Cost me 1600$!
Ei Johnny long time fan from Portugal, really loved the video about the dreamcast, the best part of these videos are the stories for each game you have, trully awesome hearing so many videogame memories
dreamcast is my second favorite system besides the genesis. gonna watch this later but my top 10 would be something like: sonic adventure, skies of arcadia, grandia 2, marvel vs. capcom 2, king of fighters evolution, capcom vs. snk 2, crazy taxi, berserk, tony hawk pro skater 2, and soul calibur.
I remember going to Circuit City when they were liquidating these consoles/games and bought up everything I could. Such a great system that is still a pleasure to own.
First game I purchased with the system was Phantasy Star Online and I still remember being blown away by it. It was the game that made me buy the system.
Heck of a list. I missed all of these going straight from Atari 2600 to Snes, to Ps1 I never got to enjoy anything Sega until those collection Game's came out for Ps3 and Ps4 and on steam for Pc.
A good friend of mine had a Dreamcast back then and plugged in a nice Sony tv, and he had Soulcalibur. Our minds were blown at the time as we'd never seen something look so good on home consoles. We'd play it everyday. Probably the biggest jump in graphics I have ever seen and I don't think I'll see this again And I gotta say : I like RE:Code Veronica on DC almost as much as RE2! It's a brilliant game, an amazing classic Resident Evil. People who love the classic RE games and who haven't played this one : I urge you to play Code Veronica! It's amazing! I played it on a VGA crt last year and the game looks soooo good and so crisp (btw the DC's VGA output is not only coll for offering 480 progressive scan, but also for providing an extremely clean signal, one of the best of all retro consoles.)
Skies of Arcadia holds some very precious memories for me. Played through the Legends port over the summer, and it was such a whimsical and lovable adventure. Far and away one of the best RPGs I have played in years!
everytime I'd boot my dreamcast(i got around 2009) up for a friend i would do it with soul caliber. they would just ask "when did this come out!?" and not believe me when i said '99.
Dreamcast is such a precious machine.

You really missed out by not playing Crazy Taxi in the arcades...it was the best racer/ car themed arcade game I ever played. So fun!
You wha I like about your videos? You get straight to the point no bs intros ... ✌🏻
Seriosuly most people have 1 min long intro's about subbing and liking these days
It was Johnny and Robman's dreamcast memories that made breakdown and buy a dreamcast...wow 7 years ago. And its my fav console
It was like that whole Sega Naomi and Dreamcast era was just so freaking AMAZING!
Dreamcast and. Saturn 🪐 are my all time favorite consoles! Collecting for the dreamcast now trying to go for a full set
you said it!!!!!!man, i can't believe has been 19 years since the release of the dreamcast time flies!!!!!!, great machine indeed with awesome memorable titles, thanks for this video it really made me travel back in time.
Is anyone a fan of Dreamcast's Spawn in the Demon's Hand, the arcade game of Todd McFarlane's Spawn comic?
Mario U I am! I still have mine and loved it. But I loved Spawn and bought all the games lol
That's a fun game
Yup! I have a copy and it's still a blast to play through.
My favorite Dreamcast game!
Loved it.
Great list! Dreamcast is such a great system :) the games still look and play great today! Might make my own top 10 list.. DC Deserves more love!
The DC is still my favorite console it's crazy to think that next year it's going to be 20 years old.
Jet Grind Radio!! Soundtrack was amazing! It was a game you had to experience at the time!
My favorite console of all the time thank you for bringing me somuch precious memories
really enjoyed your video
Dreamcast has aged really well. Bangai-O is the game for me, love it.
Huge nostalgia for the dreamcast. Thanks for sharing :)

I managed to play the European version of Shenmue 2 which had the japanese voices with English subtitles and for me that was the best videogame experience ever. It was such a big improvement over the 1st one and Sega not bringing it over to DC owners in North America is one of the biggest video game travesties of all time. Also, I consider Cannon Spike as well as Tempo on 32X two of my favorite most overlooked games of all time.
Capcom vs Snk was legit
Capcom vs SNK 2 was my favourite 2d fighter.
I really need to pick up the Shenmue collection, because that game looks awesome.
You absolutely do man! It's an amazing experience
Thanks for the advice both of you!!! I'm definitely going to pick it up now.
If you've never played it you'd probably hate it now. See the Jim Sterling review. The game makes you waste a LOT of time waiting on NPCs. Shenmue II isn't so bad.
It was a great game for it's time but it is dated as hell. I recommend just playing yakuza series
@@siulyeojof course it's dated as hell it's a retro classic. I happen to think the game still controls great though.
10. Street Fighter Alpha 3
9. Crazy Taxi
8. NBA 2K1/2K2 tie
7. Marvel Vs Capcom 2
6. Soul Caliber
5. Shenmue 2
4. Shenmue
3. Sonic Adventure
2. Sonic Adventure 2
1. Resident Evil Code Veronica
It was the console that I always wanted back in the day.
I remember playing Sonic Adventure for the first time in Zellers back in the day, it blew my mind at the time.

I'm only up to Crazy Taxi, the first game you are talking about, and I already want to say I appreciate your genuine enthusiasm.
Sega Bass Fishing + Friends + Beers = One hell of a night!
Hell fuckin yeah. I just bought the fishing rod that goes with it and it kicks ass. Pure arcade action and the music in game is fuckin rockin.
That game is so fun! It's a big one!
Beers? What a fancy way of saying pepsi
@@readurasawamonster9782 By Pepsi you mean St Ides right?
I love that The Offspring is the most recognized band of Crazy Taxi. That's one of my top 3 favorite bands of all time.
Just discovered your channel and I'm so happy. I've been buying a bunch of consoles to relive my childhood. Dreamcast rules
Dreamcast is a phenomenal system. Lots of memories, cannot pick just a few titles, each was it's own experience. Sweet top 10 list though.
Sonic Adventure, PSO, Shemmue, JSR, KOF98, SF3, JBA, CvS, Grandia II, Ecco
Just a few treasures, but there are so much more
PSO was sick. That game was so revolutionary and addicting. Underrated gem for sure
My parents were GREATLY against any forms of profanity what-so-ever and opted to put it back and proceeded to buy me Rippin' Riders…
I never did get THPS 2 on Dreamcast, nor did I much care for the system & its selection of games overall. To this very day I still regularly think of this and mutter to myself… “Screw you retail guy… screw you…”
1 man, 1 beard, 1 video, and a bunch of games.
i had the same reaction with SC, i couldnt believe the graphics, it was clear a new generation had just arrived, i didnt get that same feeling again until y saw the first gears of wars, i started remembering when i was a kid playing super mario bros on the nes, and now wow these graphics, what the hell!!!
Man, I just love watching Johnny (And Rob Man). His videos just make me enjoy life so much. His passion is so contagious.
The moment I saw Soul Calibur, I knew I would buy the system.
I hope we get more Dreamcast ports onto newer systems, its a console that defiantly shouldn't be forgotten. Ive always wanted to play Skies of Arcadia, i just don't think i can justify spending £100 on it. Maybe il just buy it, complete it and sell it again.
Perfect list 👌 I also really enjoyed Rayman 2 when it released for it as well.
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 should have been on this list.
"I wanna take you for a ride!"
Man I miss the Dreamcast
Great video HCG! I need many more titles for this great console.
Another great video Johnny, really enjoy watching these in the morning.
Thank you Johnny! I've been waiting a long time for this
great list, I remember playing all these games back in the day
Heck of a list.
Probably the biggest jump in graphics I have ever seen and I don't think I'll see this again
And I gotta say : I like RE:Code Veronica on DC almost as much as RE2!
Shenmue 1 & 2 for changing gaming so much and the epic journey, skies of arcadia, countless arcade ports and sonic adventure what a machine
Skies of Arcadia holds some very precious memories for me. Played through the Legends port over the summer, and it was such a whimsical and lovable adventure. Far and away one of the best RPGs I have played in years!
Can we please go back to these style games and graphics I absolutely love the cartoonish graphics
everytime I'd boot my dreamcast(i got around 2009) up for a friend i would do it with soul caliber. they would just ask "when did this come out!?" and not believe me when i said '99.
