For a system that (in the US) had only one full year under its belt, I don't think there will ever be a more incredible lineup of games and forward thinking incorporation of a multitude of technologies. From the modem to the VMU and VGA, from Shenmue to Seaman and SoulCalibur, the Dreamcast will always be the most incredible system to ever exist. It's still thinking... ❤

      @@tubinonyou Also still one of my favorite console of all time, but perhaps for the opposite reason!
      As well as all those Arcade perfect ports (because the Naomi arcade system was practically the same machine) during its, admittedly commercially short, lifetime it also amassed an impressive array of odd, quirky, nich, and diverse original games and ports. Things like Cosmic Smash, Illbleed, Roommania, Seaman, Wetrix, ChuChu Rocket, Maken X, D2, Pen Pen Triicelon, Super Magnetic Neo, Jet Set Radio, and Space Channel 5 (1 & 2) to name but a few and the list goes on, and on...
      There are also a lot of strange and unusual Japanese only releases like Roommania, Segagaga, Napple Tale, and Rainbow Cotton (and many more) along with a plethora of exclusive Naomi arcade SHMUP conversions for the Dreamcast, mostly because it was so easy to do so! And most shooters are easily playable without knowing Japanese (they are 'real' arcade games after all).
      Honestly, I've barely scratched the surface of the strange and unique Dreamcast games available here!

    The Dreamcast was ahead of its time. It had internet connection and one could play perfect arcade ports. Never owned one, but a friend had it & I got the chance to enjoy it.

    • @DanoLefourbe
      @DanoLefourbe 4 месяца назад +7

      And it was behind its time in some other ways, like that 6 buttons, 1 stick controller, which kept it firmly in its arcade-port-machine niche, while the arcade was already starting to fade away. I say that as a proud DC owner. Let's not forget the system's shortcomings. Its death wasn't an accident.

    • @ericp631
      @ericp631 4 месяца назад

      Not really. Internet connectivity for play was something that was available since the 16 bit years(look up x band), but you are right that it was the first with it out of the box. But you are wrong elsewhere, the public's desire perfect arcade ports had fallen way out of fashion by the time the Dreamcast released(and was the main reason why Sega consoles stopped selling well) and was something that depending on which arcade games you were talking about was achieved during the 8 bit years.
      Having recently watched a video of all the games released on it, it's not as good of a console as nostalgia would have us believe. It's very clear why it failed/how behind the times it was.

    For the better part of two years, the Dreamcast was the most powerful console in the world. At the same time it was more powerful than any GPU you could buy for a PC. The only thing that could beat the Dreamcast for gaming performance was the worlds most powerful Arcade machine - the SEGA Naomi - Identical to a Dreamcast except for more memory and a slightly faster version of the same GPU.
    When the PS2 and Gamecube launched - the Dreamcast was still way faster for 2D rasterization and had 'HD' resolutions (native VGA support) and could beat them both on some specific 3D tasks.
    The Dreamcast was finally dethroned by the Xbox - Which was the Dreamcast 2 in all but name.

    I loved dreamcast! I only got to enjoy it for a year and a half when I finally was able to get it in 2001. When I got my X Box in late 2002, My DreamCast was still essentially brand new.

    Good stuff! I remember my jaw dropping when the Dreamcast originally released. Like its older brother the Sega Saturn, it was basically a home arcade! It had such a great amount of incredible launch titles like Soulcalibur! I wish the Dreamcast had stuck around for a few years longer, but even in its short lifespan, it had quite the legacy behind it! Even though many of its games have had ports, there are still a good amount of Dreamcast games I still play to this day!

    I still play most of the games, you have shown on the Sega Dreamcast like Marvel VS Capcom 2, Soul Calibur, Power Stone 1 & 2 etc.
    But i also still play games, that weren´t in this video like Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi 1 & 2, TrickStyle, Jet Set Radio and ChuChu Rocket.
