I honestly think that's one of the reasons it plays so well. It literally slides from move to move so smoothly it just feels right. Doesn't look to realistic, but the end result feels amazing.
Those AKI/THQ wrestling games are so ridiculously good, and I still can’t quite put my finger on why. I’m always down for a Royal Rumble in WCW vs NWO.
Not only the N64, other Nintendo consoles too. He's a Sega fan, but loves good videogames in general. The counter part is SNES drunk, he's a Nintendo fan that also review and love Sega games.
I'm one, too! I love my N64. I was blindsided when I started seeing the press call it a failure. I loved it as much as my Saturn and Dreamcast! Perfect Dark is one of the best games ever!
@@oscarzxn4067 exactly, both Sega Lord X and SNES Drunk show that you be a fan of either Sega or Nintendo and still love games from either company or any console and I loved my N64 even though I was more of a Sega fan at the time but I didn’t buy the Saturn due to it not being as popular as the PlayStation which I had sold to fund a purchase of a VCR when the N64 wrestling games were hitting their stride but I kept my N64 and rode out that generation with it and it was created some truly unforgettable moments for me as a gamer.
The mp map that has a bathroom was lolz during 4 players matches during high school years at weekends with friends. We would use the remote bombs and place them on the stalls of the bathroom. Imagine when you get respawn on the toilet sometimes only die half a second later. Lol the toilets went booom! We kept spawn killing eachother when ever we spawned at the bathroom toilet.😂 fun times.
4-player Rockets on Facility. We would all gather in the main hallway, shoot rockets at each other, there was so much smoke so much lag, it was pure chaos! Absolutely loved it
Goldeneye came out when I was 19 yo. My roommate and i had the party house at that time. Keg was there, music, dancing, etc. By the TV, though, was Goldeneye going the whole time. Even peeps that didn't play video games normally were waiting their turn for the 4 player sheatt-talkin session.
Leaving out Goldeneye 007 must have been hard. I personally couldn’t put it beyond my favorite top three (Ocarina, Mario 64 and Goldeneye 007 are for me the best of the best of the system)
Growing up poor, I didn't have access to the high quality N64 games, so all I could play was the unpopular stuff that was available at the rental store. To this day, I have never played any of the Zelda games for the N64. But some of the unpopular games that I got to play were top tier, like Ogrebattle 64 and California Speed.
Same, I only had a one game for a long time, but it was awesome, Pokemon Stadium. I rented a few, Smash Bros and Pokemon Snap, loved them so much. Play Zelda, it's great.
I never owned an N64, but I did play the demo stand at the toy store I worked at ..especially once we moved it into the break room! 😝 My fondest memory, though, was during the launch. A man in a Hawaiian shirt came up the escalator eager to purchase the new system. Setting him up with the games, needed and optional accessories, we chatted about our love of video games for about 45 minutes and he was one of the nicest people I had ever met! It was Robin Williams! 😁
@@nicholasbullock1709 As he came up the escalator...no. I just happened to be passing by where the systems were bulk stacked and he got my attention asking about purchasing the new system. We kept everything else behind closed doors so once I started asking about other items he wanted I realized who I was talking to. It was clear he was interested in keeping a low profile so I kept the conversation on video games having just purchased Mario All Stars myself. He really was a genuinely down to earth kind hearted human being and I treasure the moment! 🤗
The N64 is a legendary machine. True class. So many wonderful experiences. Seeing Pilot Wings 64 was so good to see on your list. Its generally not looked upon as being as good as the Snes game, but for me it surpasses it. Excellent list of games.
If it wasn't for Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy it would be the best wrestling game ever but those two just had much more...create a wrestler, real theme musics and career/story modes to boot.
@@gameshack1985 VPW2 is the best of the AKI wrestling games by a wide margin imo. MMA/kickboxing modes, none of the No Mercy slowdown, deeper CAW suite, unlockable moves from Revenge and WM2000, customisable logic/AI etc. Revenge is still my personal favourite for the nostalgia but VPW2 is just AKI wrestling perfected. Westerners got extremely stripped back experiences in comparison.
This list has a distinct lack of Rare, but I was glad to see Pilotwings, as I think it deserves a lot more love. Unfortunately the other launch title got all the attention
The thing I appreciate the most about this generation of consoles is how they were each genuinely different from each other with their own unique strengths and drawbacks. This made each console worth owning IMO. Though I think Sega gets a little bit of shame for giving up too early and not releasing their JRPG library in the west. I think things could have played out alot different for them if they had done that.
Wow, an N64 Top 10 without Goldeneye is almost unimaginable and probably considered sacrilegious by many in today's toxic online gaming community. It's certainly one of my favourites on the system thanks to the countless hours I spent playing it with friends in multiplayer. But I'm glad you enjoyed the console and its games. And it's good to see a list that's not predictable. Mad props for putting Sin and Punishment on your list, too. You also make a great point about how the game libraries of the systems in that generation, especially the Saturn and N64, complemented each other instead of being essentially the same like in today's gaming world, making them all worth owning for their specific game libraries.
From the top of my head, I'll add my top 10 favorites before watching the video to see how many we would have in common: GoldenEye, Turok, Doom 64, Star Fox, Wave Race, Killer Instinct, Mario 64, Mario Kart, Pokemon Snap, International Super Star Soccer.
For anyone who loves the AKI-engine pro wrestling games on the N64, I can only heartily recommend the "Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 - freem edition". It's the most developed/expansive version of the AKI developed engine, translated into english, with lots of your favourite and greatest pro wrestlers added to the roster if they weren't already in the base game. On top of that you get a great wrestler creator. Great video! I like the nod to NBA Hangtime, which would be on my top ten. Smash Bros. is not on the list to my surprise, but everyone has they're own taste and hardly anyone was able to play all the best games on the N64 back in the day, as kid, teen or even young adult, you just don't have the money.
If you want to check out some of the more obscure great games on the N64, I suggest both of the Ganbare Goemon games on the platform, Space Station Silicone Valley, Rocket Robot on Wheels, Robotron 64, Mischief Makers, Ogre Battle 64, Blast Corps., the Snowboard Kids games, and Diddy Kong Racing just to name a few. Some of these games aren't exactly obscure come to think of it, but all of them are definitely worth playing in my opinion.
Back in the day, my local Toys R Us had around 8 demo kiosks, four running Mario 64. We were supposed to only demo for 10 minutes before moving-on, but my bro and I would spend hours there on Sundays, starting a new file each time, and competing against each other on how far we could get how quickly before leaving. We were never kicked-off because we would always draw a crowd as we learned new tricks and shortcuts. After a couple of months the store manager thanked us, as thanks to us they sold twice the number of N64's and games on Sundays than any other day of the week.
@@ep688That image of people clapping or cheering at two kids playing Mario 64 at the store, sounds ridiculous enough to be a 90’s commercial. Super over the top, but totally radical! Lots of super fast editing with ultra quick zoom in shots for that cool mid-90s vibe.
The multiplayer experience was off the charts with the N64: Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, GoldenEye, TWINE, Turok, WWF No Mercy, Road Rash 64, The Cruisin's, California Speed and SF Rush and surprisingly Pokemon Stadium were all fun as hell
WCW/nWo Revenge was part of my childhood. Fridays and Saturdays my brother and friends would play 4 player, along with Goldeneye, NFL Quarterback Club and NFL Blitz. So much fun.
Sin and Punishment is one of the games I like having an original trident controller. A game that might arguably play better with the left hand on the d-pad, and the right hand on the analog stick.
When you Think of the Nintendo 64 one Game came to mind!!!!! MIDWAY Presents NFL BLITZ!!!!!!! Elementary, Middle, High School Days Especially College played it like a Boss!!!!!!!
Me and my siblings used to play Hot Shots Golf all the time. Such a great time. I had no idea the same developer made Mario Golf, or I’d have definitely got that as well
Pilotwings 64 is a real gem in this library. I get it's not for everyone, but if it is your jam, there isn't anything else like it anywhere. The earlier and later Pilotwings games have their charm, but 64 is the best. Like SegaLordX said, you can relax, blast out of a cannon, explore, shoot missiles, it's great!
I loved my N64 when I got it as a kid. I had a lot of games but Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, F-Zero X, Starfox 64, Super Smash Bros, Rayman 2, Beetle Adventure Racing, NFL Blitz, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Ready 2 Rumble all stood out in my library. My cousin had the wrestling games WWF No Mercy & WCW/NWO Revenge and I would have fun playing that with him. So much nostalgia!
Great list! I find funny that I never see Conker's Bad Fur Day in that kind of list. The multiplayer games were amazing, and the story was original, funny, witty, and unhinged. It definitely is a must-have for me!
some are turned off by the crudeness, but other than that, Conker is simply lacking as a collectathon. it feels painfully linear as well, a little too formulaic.
@UltimateGamerCC Conkers Bad Fur Day formulaic? No way. What game has you pushing a ball of crap up a mountain or peeing on fire imps? and "it's linear" is the most vague, nonsensical criticism. Why is non-linear superior to linear?
@@magicjohnson3121 because non-linear encourages numerous playthroughs. linear however doesnt, once you've played the game through, there isnt anything encouraging a replay. dont get me wrong about Conker, i like the Squirrel and wish he got more than two-ish games and a remaster. but criticisms exist to point out flaws and Conker's got them, whether or not you care to admit that.
@@UltimateGamerCC I loved the level design. The fact that you can clearly see where you could go but you can't due to an ability you need to unlock shows good level design for me. Yes, it mat be linear, but I am one of those people who appreciate that kind of game. The story is fun and entertaining. Thanks for your opinion. I appreciate it. 😊
@UltimateGamerCC I replay linear games all the time like arcade titles, Rail shooters, Donkey Kong Country etc. With linear games it's alot easier for developers to give more variety and better pacing. Non linear games can absolutely suffer from repetition and terrible pacing. Also once you've explored an area that's it. The excitement is gone.
Thank you for putting Revenge above No Mercy. As great as No Mercy is, I don’t go back to it as often as Revenge. I felt I was alone in this opinion until today!
This was the generation of consoles where I became interested in racing games. Prior to that I just couldn't get into them. Apparently the jump to 3D did a lot to add to their appeal to me.
I only could get one I would of bought a SNES but GENESIS took instead I would of brought a N64 but PLAYSTATION took instead I would of brought a GAME CUBE but took PLAYSTATION 2 instead I would of took a WII but took a PLAYSTATION 3 instead
Dude… the N64 was released in 1996. “Sin and Punishment” featured in this video was released in 2000. 😂 Most of Sega Lord X’s content is 1990s… not 1980s.
@@happyspaceinvader508you must be slow what does me and SLX being old and seeing all the decades from 1980-Now have to do with anything you just said also SLX does 80s content dumb dumb Master System NES Turbo Grafx and Sega Genesis go away troll
@@happyspaceinvader508 you make no sense me and Sega Lord X have seen all the decades from 1980-Now that’s all I was saying also he does 1980s content such as NES Master System Turbo Grafx and Genesis good job troll
I feel like WCW/nWo: Revenge had the best roster of any wrestling game on the N64. You could play as surfer Sting, yellow and red Hulk Hogan, or American made Lex Luger. You could bring back the Hart Foundation or play as future WWE champions like Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero. That one roster encompassed so many greats from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. It was just the crossroads for multiple generations of wrestling.
I traded in Revenge to pre-order No Mercy, then got a second cheaper copy of Revenge later on because I missed the roster. I still played No Mercy more, can't beat a true character creation, but Revenge always had a place in my rotation. I loved the intro that had the trucker stop in front of Sting, only to say, "What!?" I'm certain that's the same trucker that drove into Raccoon City and got bit, then later nearly ran over Leon and Claire.
Great list, and with no Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, Super Smash Bros, Pokemon Stadium 2, Majora's Mask, etc it really goes to show the 64 had a very strong line-up of games.
My 10 favorite N64 Games (Mostly wrestling or Zelda lol) 10. NJPW Toukon Road II: Brave Spirits 9. WCW vs nWo World Tour aka Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 8. Jet Force Gemini 7. 007: The World is Not Enough 6. WCW/nWo Revenge 5. WWF Wrestlemania 2000 4. WWF No Mercy 3. Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 1. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Definitely a product of its time. It’s probably the most westernized Nintendo console ever. It just didn’t have the 2D games of the Saturn and PlayStation. I think it could’ve had some good 2D games, but again, it was very westernized. We were just so obsessed with 3D.
I think “a product of its time” is one of the most useless phrases of all time. It diminishes achievement and encourages soapbox criticism out of context.
Love N64, my most nostalgic system. Nice list, here's mine: Pokemon Stadium 1 Pokemon Stadium 2 Pokemon Snap Super Smash Bros Star Fox 64 Paper Mario Mario Kart 64 Conker's Bad Fur Day Zelda: Ocarina of Time Super Mario 64
Hey, I took that photo of the Babbage's store in the beginning of the video. :) It was taken at the Wilton Mall, NY store. I was an assistant manager at this time. I had just bought a Kodak DC-260 (1.2mp) digital camera and brought it with me to work that day. This would have been from December 1998. The photo is of my friends, Steve K, and Tim M.. Those were the days. I loved working there! Oh, and I took the Zelda standee, PlayStation neon sign, and even the 9" monochrome CRT (used with our register POS), home with me. I still have them today. 😁 Soon after this photo, I left the store to take over management of another Babbage's store in the capital region. I helped ready other stores for the Dreamcast launch, as well as the PS2, and Xbox launches. Some of the best years of my life were at these places. It was a challenging, and sometimes (Black Friday - January 15th) stressful position, but where else are you going to be surrounded by stuff you LOVE, and get paid to chat with customers about video games!? I made a lot of friends from those days, many of which I am still friends with. -Matt
Actually, I took that picture of Babbage's. It was the year Twenty Aught Six and I was on my way home from 2 towns over. I stopped in there to buy an onion to tie to my belt, which was the style at the time. I didn't have any of quarters so I had to pay with nickles and they had pictures of bumblebees on them.
@@taqiyyanPlayStation obviously had the bigger library of games, but were they necessarily better? A good portion of people were fooled by the FMV videos, thinking that was what the actual graphics and gameplay were going to be
@@JamesJohnson-tr1gu Yea I like N64 and PS equally, though if I must pick one I might pick PS since my favorites are there (SotN, FFIX, Racing Lagoon, etc).
To me (i stopped being a gamer at the playstaion1/n64 era) the playstation destroyed the n64. The 64 is my least favorite of all the Nintendo systems. With that being said OOT and mario 64 are 2 of my all time favorite games. So its not that the 64 didnt have it in it to be great, the games just sucked.
@@jacobhayes1305 yeah, like SLX said, their first party titles kept Nintendo afloat throughout the N64, and GameCube eras. The Wii and Switch are fine, but there is a lot of shovelware on both of those consoles
I always thought Forsaken 64 was an under appreciated game. It's easily one of the best 4 player split screen games ever, and despite being beautiful with amazing dynamic lighting effects it runs very smoothly for the most part. If you ever plan an N64 party definitely grab it.
Solid list. But no love for RareWare games besides Goldeneye? I think Diddy Kong Racing and Banjo Kazooie should have gotten honorable mentions. Also, Super Smash Bros was a legendary experience as well.
Had an N64 & a PS1 back then. While the N64 didn't have anywhere near the quantity that the PS1 had, the major releases for it seemed to come out every 4 or 5 months, and the titles always had a very special, magical feel to them that made you happy to own the console. That was also the era where Rareware were at the very peak of their game, which didn't hurt.
Loved the N64. First console I ever bought with my own money. Got it at launch and never regretted it. I still have that console and every cart I ever bought for it (and I'm totally picking up the Analogue 3D). My top 10 definitely looks different from yours, though... ;) 1. Ocarina of Time 2. Super Mario 64 3. Star Fox 64 4. GoldenEye 007 5. Banjo Kazooie 6. Jet Force Gemini 7. Resident Evil 2 8. Mischief Makers 9. Rogue Squadron 10. Turok 2 It's definitely hard for me to whittle it down to just ten games, though. Played the hell out of the system, still do on a regular basis. My honorable mentions would be Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding (still my favorite sports game of all time), Perfect Dark, Ridge Racer 64, Beetle Adventure Racing, and Wipeout 64. Ironically, I can't stand Mario Kart 64. Always felt Diddy Kong Racing was way better for some reason.
A solid list, though I am surprised as you included OoT because, as you mention in the video, you didn't really like Link to the Past. I'm not a big wrestling fan, but pretty much all of the other games you mentioned, especially Goldeneye and Rouge Squadron, are among my favorites. I would have to add Banjo Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing as well. But really, Super Mario 64 will always be THE N64 game for me. As an aside, I appreciated the music from Wipeout in the intro!
I never had a 64. When the genesis faded out I went to pc games. When i went to friends houses we played the hell out of perfect dark and mario cart having some beers.
When putting together my top 100 games of all time I was surprised at how many entries were N64 games. Despite the limited library it had so many games I loved dearly that I honestly think it's my second favorite Nintendo console after the Wii. Compared to most other consoles where picking a top 10 is easy the N64 requires some real painful cuts for me.
Hours upon hours at my dad's with friends sleeping over..playing all the wrestling games and GoldenEye. Mariokart...and the big new Yorker Pizza from the hut. Ahh good times...damn in 1996 I was 10.. damn I'm old
NBA hangtime...i remember playing that together with my brother 2 entire summers and later 4 player with friends...and pokemon stadium 1&2 the minigames all the time...
Road Rash 64 was a great game for generating fistfights among friends. The rubber-banding made sure every race came down to the last hundred yards and whoever pulled the final cheap move got punched in the arm while laughing his ass off.
Goldeneye and Wave Race 64 would’ve made my top 10 N64 games list that’s for sure as Rare could do no wrong at all on the N64 as well as the usual stamples like Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 but I would have had pretty much most of the Aki wrestling games in my top 10 with No Mercy leading the pack. That game is a culmination of everything from Wrestlemania 2000, Revenge and World Tour, there really wasn’t anything that could match No Mercy, it hits all the right places, it just felt right and the CAW and customisation was crazy good and with friends along with a couple of buddies, in a battle of who isthe true king of kings, which lead to some unforgettable matches.
The fact that we got both Sin and Punishment amd its sequel released on the Wii in Western regions is probably yet another great thing we owe Sakurai for, lol. Never played the sequel, but the original is one of my favorite N64 games as well, SLX! I have heard nothing but great things about Star Successor, though
I had a PS1 originally and it was a great console but years later I got to play Banjo on the n64 and I was just astonished by the graphics. A great console.
Stellar list. Wrestling games absolutely peaked on the N64, and haven't been worth it since. And I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks Super Mario Kart on the SNES is a turd. I loved the N64 game, and many of the other Kart titles, but the first one is crap.
I still have my childhood N64. My favorite games on it: Ocarina of Time, Banjo-Kazooie, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, WCW/nWo Revenge, Turok 1 and 2, Diddy Kong Racing, Killer Instinct Gold, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, and Star Fox 64. What the hell was Nintendo thinking sticking with cartridges in an era when optical discs were the future of gaming? WHY? Dumb move, Nintendo!
Yet those games are infinitely better without the long loading screens right? N64 just loads everything instantly and feels so good, thanks to the cartridge format instant memory access.
Oh man, the N64 mabey don't have the largest library, but those games that are good/great are indeed GOOD/GREAT! Hard to just pick 10 titles. My 10 picks would then I guess be these titles based on those that I happened to play most by myself, with my lill brother or friends! 1. Diddy Kong Racing 2. Super Mario 64 3. GoldenEye 4. Mario Kart 64 5. Mario Party 3 6. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 7. Super Smash Bros 8. Pokemon Stadium 9. Donkey Kong 64 10. Clayfighter 63 1/3 11. Star Wars: The Shadows of Empire 12. Vigilant 8: 2nd Offense 13. Turok 14. Bomberman 64 15. Yoshi's Story 16. Star Fox 64 17. Mario Party 2 18. F-Zero X 19. Mario Tennis 20. Spider-Man NOTES: Conker's Bad Fur Day would been up here based on N64 games, but I did not play that until many years afterwards as an adult on Rare Replay Collection. Banjo-Kazzooie and Banjo-Tooie is the same case.
The Nintendo 64 is a great console! While it did have a small library of games and limitations in using cartridges, it made up for it in just having a lot of great titles! A lot of these games mentioned are some of my favorites for the system, but there are so many others like Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, Donkey Kong 64, Kirby 64, Perfect Dark, Diddy Kong Racing, the Turok trilogy, Goemon, Super Smash Brothers, the Mario Party trilogy, Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask, and many others that kept me and my friends playing it for years! It was such a great console for 4-player local multiplayer! Heck, I still enjoy some N64 games even today!
12:10 i agree, i love F-Zero X. But i also have to make the case for Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer, that game is up there on par with F-Zero X as the best racing game on the system, and both of them are some of my favourite racing games of all time.
Making a top N64 games list is the easiest task for me, as I didn’t own or play many games back then, even though I hold this system in high esteem. But these titles made it count: - Super Mario 64 - Mario Kart 64 - International Superstar Soccer 64 (and its follow-up, ISS 98) - GoldenEye 007 Just these four games made my N64 experience wonderful, no need for any other.
But yes many Americans have no idea about the ISS games which were great. And the SNES ISS games. Although the PS1 versions were better and far superior to FIFA too. Especially Pro Evolution Soccer which was the only challenger to FIFA to this day before its sad demise into the terrible E-football.
N64 was my first console. N64 had influencial 2nd and 1st party games that pioneer advanced 3D technology prior to the 6th gen console era which 3D gaming is perfected.
I remember playing a lot of GoldenEye at my brother’s apartment, which had pretty thin walls. We often heard someone on the other side moaning, “Oh, Poppy!” in the middle of… let’s just say, interesting moments. Naturally, it became an inside joke for us to shout that whenever we lost-ha ha!
Love this because it shows how different ppl have different tastes. Watching this made me have to think about my list. #1 Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage #2 Quest 64 ... Just Kidding #1 The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time #2 Gauntlet Legends #3 Paper Mario #4 Super Smash Bros. #5 Star Fox 64 #6 The Legend of Zelda - Majora's Mask #7 Sin & Punishment #8 Mario Kart 64 #9 Killer Instinct Gold #10 Golden Eye 007
My top 10 10 - Turok 2 9 - South Park 64 8 - Wrestlemania 2000 7 - Goldeneye 007 6 - WCW/nWo World Tour 5 - WCW/nWo Revenge 4 - Star Wars Episode 1 Racer 3 - Duke Nukem 64 2 - Mario Kart 64 1 - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
This is my favorite generation of gaming. I know later gen consoles will perfect the formulas and will make "better" games, but I do not think that the number of games from this gen which people consider great, and even some GOATs, is coincidence. The innovation the N64, PSX, Saturn, and the rest brought to the table revolutionized the industry. Modern gen consoles are still using the blueprints created by this gen.
Ocarina of Time is my favorite N64 game along with Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie & Mario Cart 64 just to name a few. But there was so many good games on the N64
Since we're seemingly all going in on top ten lists, I may as well share my own here: 10: Star Fox 64. It was a toss-up between this one and Shadows of the Empire, my very first game for the N64, but I give it to McCloud in the end because I'm a sucker for the (actually voiced) story here that felt more engaging than the sidestory of Dash Rendar, and while shadows IS the more varied game... Star Fox 64 just feels so much more fun to play. 9. Mario Party. The almost best multiplayer game on my list, but funnily enough while it was fun to compete for coins it's really the music and stages I remember. Something about the "worlds" the gang partied in felt incredibly inviting to kid me, as I'm a big fan of Mario's particular colorful worlds, and the All Clear song is such an ear-worm I love it to this day. And while Mario Golf's music is great and I liked playing that against others too... Mario Party's action makes it a funnier multiplayer Mario game for me. 8. Goldeneye. I credit this game with honestly making me GET FPS games. I certainly had played FPS games for PC before this, but I woul always use the cheats and simply coast on the stages. This was a game where I actually had to learn to PLAY the games, and I will always remember it for those lessons. Those lessons, and alternative objectives. Really made the FPS-world feel so much more interactive than just running around and shooting stuff in Doom. 7. Super Mario 64. This is... a BETTER game than many of those I am about to mention, but I actually got to this game very LATE in my N64-era so the games I put above it are games that I have much stronger emotional connections to. But one simply can't deny Mario 64's strengths, it's just that I kinda feel other platformers and such had more engaging worlds than JUST Peach's castle. 6. Mischief Makers. And SPEAKING of charm and character! As a budding weeb everything about this games anime atmosphere and varied mix of gameplay styles burrowed into my brain and started my love for Treasure. I played their earlier games on emulation later on, but this is the first time I got hooked on their fast-paced style and I'll never forget it. 5. Donkey Kong 64. BIGGER. An absolutely massive game back in the day when I really only HAD this one game to dig into, and even if I acknowledge it's exhausting back then even, it had arcade games, tons of stuff to collect, weapons, and even if I liked Donkey Kong Country's worlds, exploring DK Isle and all it's teleportation pads was fun too. 4. Banjo Kazooie. No platform game did it better in my eyes. The colors, the characters, the transformation, the world that unfolded before you... I was all in on this from the start. My first actual big N64 platformer, and an incredible memory to this day. Smaller than DK64, but also FAR more manageable. 3. Mystical Ninja 1. So my favorite games are pretty similar in gameplay, because they truly felt like massive worlds you could explore and when I was a kid that was what I REALLY liked about video games. Entering something that feels like a whole, big world, a magical place you could travel to Narnia-style by opening the right door. And Mystical Ninja may not be the prettiest, deepest or most well-thought out such world, but good god it is the FUNNIEST one. This one is vibes only, I had so much fun with Mystical Ninjas musical adventure that ALSO included the blessing that is Impact (I was a Power Rangers fan, I was lost from the start) which gave some real fun combat depth and variety to this game. Lots of games here are probably better than Mystical Ninja 1... but NONE of them had Impact. 2. Ocarina of Time. The intro-song. The world. THIS, is a world you enter and it changes your brain chemistry forever. Going from kid to "adult", seeing the world change before your eyes, growing gradually stronger and stronger as you acquire more tools... Ocarina of Time was a journey that, for all that it's story these days is simplicity itself, felt like an adventure made JUST for me. It was magical. 1. Majora's Mask. Ocarina of Time, but with a far more twisted story and lots of transformations. Once more I'm not sure i can say that MM is the better designed game, but when I first thought that Ocarina Of Time was as big as a plot could go, this one came along and absorbed me completely. I bounce between the two, but right now I this is the game I feel for the most.
Bro that hit hard, preorded the N64 back then, Mario/Waverace/Starfox Thanks for the vids bro. And thank you for sharing your memories with all of us 😎
1, ISS 2000 2, Golden Eye 3, killer Instinct Gold 4, Ocarina of Time 5, Mario Kart 6, Command and Conquer 7, Bomber Man 8, F ZERO X 9, WCW (the amazing one) 10, never played Mario 64 but I'll put it at ten.
Nice list Mr. X, here's mine- 1. Ocarina of Time 2. Super Mario 64 3. Majora's Mask 4. Perfect Dark 5. Goldeneye 6. Diddy Kong Racing 7. Harvest Moon 64 8. Mario Party 1, 2, 3 9. Banjo Kazooie 10. Star Fox 64
while i played, beat and completed Majora's Mask, it is one of my least favorite Zeldas. Time Limits are a pet peeve for me as there are a number of times that i had to return to the first day without making any significant progress. losing items was ultimately what made that infuriating for me, to the point that i'll only ever pick it up again to earn Achievements through the Retro Achievements website.
I like how on those wrestling games the characters just slide around without walking. And these are as good as wrestling games get, lol.
I honestly think that's one of the reasons it plays so well. It literally slides from move to move so smoothly it just feels right. Doesn't look to realistic, but the end result feels amazing.
Those wrestling games were awesome. I put so many hours into wcw/nwo revenge.
Craving another GameSack and SLX colab btw (speaking for many others as well)
It’s GameSack! Heck yeah!
Those AKI/THQ wrestling games are so ridiculously good, and I still can’t quite put my finger on why. I’m always down for a Royal Rumble in WCW vs NWO.
N64 was basically a 4 player beast in my time with it. Goldeneye, Mario Kart, WCW vs. NWO, Star Fox, and Turok were in constant play.
If only that trend had continued. Dreamcast was the last until Dragons Crown on PS4 for me.
Sega Lord X is one of the few diehard Saturn/Dreamcast fans I have seen that not only doesn't hate the N64, but loves it
Not only the N64, other Nintendo consoles too.
Must’ve been a super rich kid because apparently he played every single game in his childhood. Lucky boy.
I can remember the kids in my neighborhood bringing their controllers to each others house to play Mario kart and goldeneye.
That's nostalgic af. We did the same thing in my neighborhood.
lol same here.
Yeah same here and me and my friends all had different color controllers so we knew who's was who's
I was a teen still doing that on Fridays 😂.
Diddykongracing>mariokart
Wow! There's not a single Rareware game on the list. This is certainly a unique N64 list!
i was looking for dk64, or conker at least
I think a lot of those games were overrated.
It's hard to believe how fun Goldeneye 4-player was.
Absolutely loved it
Thanks for shouting out F-Zero X as the best racer on the system. That game was a true gem. Great video as always.
good frame rate = good gam
Nah Wave Race was the best single player and Diddy Kong was the best multiplayer.
can easily argue it has the best ost as well.
@@darinherrick9224agree completely on Wave Race. The water just made the racing far more interesting than typical track based racers.
And it’s not even on this top 10
@@user-jd5ls1ro9o that blew me.

My two favorite games on the N64 were The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time & Conker's Bad Fur Day. The N64 was an awesome system.
@@Vulpas Nintendo has an online system that lets you play N64 games.
I never owned an N64, but I did play the demo stand at the toy store I worked at ..especially once we moved it into the break room! 😝
My fondest memory, though, was during the launch. A man in a Hawaiian shirt came up the escalator eager to purchase the new system. Setting him up with the games, needed and optional accessories, we chatted about our love of video games for about 45 minutes and he was one of the nicest people I had ever met!
It was Robin Williams! 😁
Did you know that at the time?
@@nicholasbullock1709 As he came up the escalator...no. I just happened to be passing by where the systems were bulk stacked and he got my attention asking about purchasing the new system.
We kept everything else behind closed doors so once I started asking about other items he wanted I realized who I was talking to. It was clear he was interested in keeping a low profile so I kept the conversation on video games having just purchased Mario All Stars myself.
He really was a genuinely down to earth kind hearted human being and I treasure the moment! 🤗
I can actually believe that
I believe it he was a totally a gamer.
@@mrbungle589 his daughter told stories about them playing Zelda games together.
The N64 is a legendary machine. True class. So many wonderful experiences. Seeing Pilot Wings 64 was so good to see on your list. Its generally not looked upon as being as good as the Snes game, but for me it surpasses it. Excellent list of games.
Your love for the AKI wrestling games warms my heart. I knew you had good taste but this just further confirms it.
Perfect dark was the best game, how they fit that game into a cartridge that is less than 100mb is mind boggling
And resident evil 2.
Revenge is still one of the best, if not the best wrestling game ever. Love it to this day, since it first came out. Just awesome!
my favorite wrestling game to date. I'd love for a remaster. Only graphical.
The good ol "ding" every time there was a whack to the shlong
This list has a distinct lack of Rare, but I was glad to see Pilotwings, as I think it deserves a lot more love. Unfortunately the other launch title got all the attention
The thing I appreciate the most about this generation of consoles is how they were each genuinely different from each other with their own unique strengths and drawbacks. This made each console worth owning IMO. Though I think Sega gets a little bit of shame for giving up too early and not releasing their JRPG library in the west. I think things could have played out alot different for them if they had done that.
Great to see WCW vs NWO Revenge and WWF No Mercy on the list. Top 5 games for me on the console
From the top of my head, I'll add my top 10 favorites before watching the video to see how many we would have in common:
GoldenEye, Turok, Doom 64, Star Fox, Wave Race, Killer Instinct, Mario 64, Mario Kart, Pokemon Snap, International Super Star Soccer.
I'm sure everyone clapped too...
@@ep688 No, why would they do that?
Maybe they sold so many on that day because it's a weekend?
Jirard, is that you?
@@ep688That image of people clapping or cheering at two kids playing Mario 64 at the store, sounds ridiculous enough to be a 90’s commercial. Super over the top, but totally radical! Lots of super fast editing with ultra quick zoom in shots for that cool mid-90s vibe.
Playing Pilotwings 64 is the closest experience I've ever had to actually flying. You can almost feel the wind beneath you.
Lmao

Surprised I don’t see anyone hating on golden eye being just an honorable mention
I sure did. In no universe Goldeneye should be left out while Mario Golf is in…

You could so tell the developers of Sin and Punishment were Panzer Drogoon fans a true labor of love.
I mean Treasure already made 3 of the Saturn’s best titles before making Sin & Punishment.

Soon after this photo, I left the store to take over management of another Babbage's store in the capital region.

Perfect Dark was an awesome N64 game!
My top 10 definitely looks different from yours, though... ;)

It's definitely hard for me to whittle it down to just ten games, though.
My top 10 would have Gauntlet Legends in it. We logged a bunch of hours into that and Wave Race!
WCW/NWO and Mario Kart 64 brings back so many memories with friends couch co-op. But Ocarina of Time was my go to on the N64.
I was watching some of your other top ten videos the other day and thought to myself "I wonder if SLX will do a N64 top ten"? 😅 And here we are!
Ahh good times...damn in 1996 I was 10.. damn I'm old
I absolutely love your delivery and style on these videos. Great work!
NBA hangtime...i remember playing that together with my brother 2 entire summers and later 4 player with friends...and pokemon stadium 1&2 the minigames all the time...
Very underrated games.
My first home console. Still my favorite of all time.
Goldeneye would probably be in a top 4 for me!
I would add Conker's Bad Fur Day and Blast Corps to that list 😊
I was hoping you’d mention Winback: Covert Operations. I loved that game and sunk a ton of hours into it back in the day.

NOTES:
Conker's Bad Fur Day would been up here based on N64 games, but I did not play that until many years afterwards as an adult on Rare Replay Collection. Banjo-Kazzooie and
Banjo-Tooie is the same case.
But these titles made it count:
- Super Mario 64
- Mario Kart 64
- International Superstar Soccer 64 (and its follow-up, ISS 98)
- GoldenEye 007
Just these four games made my N64 experience wonderful, no need for any other.
imo Diddy Kong Racing > Mario Kart 64
But yes many Americans have no idea about the ISS games which were great. And the SNES ISS games.
Although the PS1 versions were better and far superior to FIFA too. Especially Pro Evolution Soccer which was the only challenger to FIFA to this day before its sad demise into the terrible E-football.
N64 was my first console. N64 had influencial 2nd and 1st party games that pioneer advanced 3D technology prior to the 6th gen console era which 3D gaming is perfected.
I love your top 10 lists. They are usually surprising because they feel more personal and don't often include what you'd expect.
#1 Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage
#2 Quest 64
...
Just Kidding
#1 The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time
#2 Gauntlet Legends
#3 Paper Mario
#4 Super Smash Bros.
#5 Star Fox 64
#6 The Legend of Zelda - Majora's Mask

#8 Mario Kart 64

#10 Golden Eye 007
Great list! I'd recommend Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage, if you haven't tried it out yet.

7 - Goldeneye 007
6 - WCW/nWo World Tour

This is my favorite generation of gaming. I know later gen consoles will perfect the formulas and will make "better" games, but I do not think that the number of games from this gen which people consider great, and even some GOATs, is coincidence. The innovation the N64, PSX, Saturn, and the rest brought to the table revolutionized the industry. Modern gen consoles are still using the blueprints created by this gen.
N64 video = super LIKE ❤
Ocarina of Time is my favorite N64 game along with Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie & Mario Cart 64 just to name a few. But there was so many good games on the N64
Since we're seemingly all going in on top ten lists, I may as well share my own here:
10: Star Fox 64.
Bro that hit hard, preorded the N64 back then, Mario/Waverace/Starfox Thanks for the vids bro.

while i played, beat and completed Majora's Mask, it is one of my least favorite Zeldas. Time Limits are a pet peeve for me as there are a number of times that i had to return to the first day without making any significant progress. losing items was ultimately what made that infuriating for me, to the point that i'll only ever pick it up again to earn Achievements through the Retro Achievements website.
Thank you mom and dad. One of the best Christmas presents ever!
Happy Friday X
Awesome, Now we just need to get Glenn Plant to do his Top 10 Saturn games!
Loved this system. Was definitely one of my favorite consoles ever!
