Honestly Johnny, your delivery for this whole vid (and every video of yours overall) just shows how much fun you have with these. Like it's not about the money for you, you just make videos and tell stories of your childhood while playing games, or you give your opinion on games even if some people don't know them. This is why I've been subbed for a while and your stuff never gets old.
I know this is an old video, but thanks for sharing...and loved hearing the memories tied to each game. I can relate to your experiences, and I had a love for video games that others around me didn't understand. My top 10: 1-Super Mario 3 2-Zelda 3-Metroid 4-Super Mario 1 5-Zelda II 6-Final Fantasy 7-Mike Tyson's Punch-Out 8-Contra 9-Metal Gear 10-Strider HM's: Batman Ninja Gaiden Excitebike Cobra Triangle Ice Hockey Castlevania III Kung Fu Life Force
I'm the same way, I loved Simon's Quest. I remember my father buying it for me and I played the hell out of that game. I still own it and will break it out from time to time.
Agreed. The enemies, the dark atmosphere, the music, exploration, all amazing. The game did not hold your hand, with the odd quest items, riddles and weird things townspeople said, but it made the game all the more memorable.
I didnt grew up with the NES, but It trully is an amazing system that still holds up. Hard to pick 10 but my favorite NES game is a little hidden gem called Robo Warriror. Good list Johnny ,) Cheers
What better way to start the day than watching a HCG Top 10. What makes them so good are the stories you add about your experiences with the games. Love the content, keep it coming!
Stuck on a plane or in a car for 2 hours? I recently found that going back to Kirby's Adventure on Switch is a great way to fill in that time and make it easily fly by with minimal stress. Really great level design that shows how much fun the devs were having when making it.
Great games, I'm missing those good old times so much - no download only games, no remake of a remake's remake, no lootboxes, no first day patch! Just insert it and have fun!!!
A tea, a smoke(tryin to quit) and HCG is the best part of my week thanks Johnny you're the best! My list.. 10. 1942 9. Ninja Gaiden 8. Contra 7. Metroid 6. Willow 5. Crystalis 4. Final Fantasy 3. Mario Bros 3 2. Legend of Zelda 1. Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
great video man. you are probably the best youtube gaming channel. keep up the good work. i'm just 20 but i know all of the games that you mentioned. my personal favourites are Gradius contra castlevania Ghost n goblins mega man double dragon ninja gaiden ducktales super mario bros kirby
Eh I'm 21; my dad got an NES from my mom for Christmas when they were dating so it was the first console I ever played on. Good list my guy, I personally would switch out Gradius and Ghosts n' Goblins for Blaster Master, Batman, or Super Dodgeball
Amazing list HCG ! 10. Guardian Legend 09. Mega Man 1 08. Dragon Warrior 1 07. Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers 06. Super Mario Bros 1 05. Super Mario Bros 3 04. Kid Icarus 03. Dragon Warrior 3 02. The Legend of Zelda 2 01. The Legend of Zelda 1
For me my top 10 Favorite NES Games 10. Super Mario Bros 9. Contra 8. Castlevania 7. Mega Man 2 6. Lifeforce 5. Bubble Bobble 4. Tiger Heli 3. Puzznic 2. Super Mario Bros 2 1. Stinger
I really appreciate you sharing your personal stories about your experience with the games. It is what really makes your channel stand out against the other gaming channels.
10.) Super Mario Bros. - Just so many memories playing this game and I think this was the first nes game I beat, but I remember being incredibly proud of myself when I beat this game for the first time. 9.) Contra - I have actually beat this game before but its been such a long time since I've played this game. I really need to play it again just to see if I can beat it without the konami code. 8.) Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - I still haven't played this game before. 7.) Mega Man II - It was only recently that I actually beat and completed this game just last year, but I use to rent this game all the time in my childhood but I actually found it difficult as a kid. 6.) Crystalis - I had never played this game before. 5.) Final Fantasy - I tried so hard to own this game because I always use to rent this game but it was a game that you couldn't really rent. I have played and completed this game and its still one of my favourite games of all time for the nes. 4.) Dragon Warrior IV - An entry of the dragon warrior series for the nes that I have not played yet. 3.) Zelda II - A game that I've dabbled a little bit but I haven't really dedicated a lot of time towards it. 2.) The Legend of Zelda - A game that I have played quite extensively but I still haven't beat this game yet. 1.) Super Mario Bros. 3 - My favourite nes game of all time. So many happy memories associated with me playing this game.
Your enthusiasm for these games is really contagious. It makes me wish I could have been there when these games were released. Because even though I like replaying older games you never quite get that same experience as when they had just come out and when you were going in fresh.
I’ve always wanted to take some time and really play Dragon Warrior IV. I’ve heard so much about it and my cousins loved the series when I was growing up
Just finished Mario 2, such a FUN game for it's time! Just finished Metroid NES, wow for 1986 that game was ahead of it's time!! Very good, end boss broken af!
My personal top 20: 1. Super Mario Bros. 2. Castlevania 3. Ninja Gaiden 4. Mega Man 3 5. Kid Icarus 6. Super C 7. Turtles II 8. Life Force 9. Tiger Heli 10. Battle City [Famicom] 11. Sky Shark 12. Twin Cobra 13. 1943 Battle Of Midway 14. Double Dragon II 16. Blaster Master 17. DuckTales 18. Batman Return Of The Joker 19. Bionic Commando 20. Rush'n Attack
I'm new to the NES scene. I just play some roms when I have some time off and I usually do that with Zelda 2, Ninja Gaiden, Ducktales and Mario 2. (Some NES games were made to be hard and I never got to finish Metroid or Ninja Gaiden JUST because of the last boss :p ) But lately I've been trying some games I haven't heard of before and I find myself having a blast with those. Faxanadu, Gun Nac, and Dr. Chaos are great. I'm still finding out NES games little by little and this is really becoming one of my favorite systems.
My top Ten in no particular order: -Maniac mansion -River City Ransome -Zelda -Mario 3 -Double Dragon 2 -Final Fantasy -Bubble Bobble -Ninja turtles Arcade -Super Dodgeball -Metroid
Fantastic recap. Dude, I remember being in summer school back in 1988 and EVERYONE was talking about Legend of Zelda. It was all the rage...faster forward to 1990 and there was literal hysteria for Super Mario Bros. 3. I think my parents paid about $90 for it, the single most expensive NES game I ever got. Still have it to this day along with my NES.
Almost. Destiny of an Emperor is even better and far more overlooked. That RPG was so far ahead of it's time compared to anything else on the system. Even most of the RPG's of the 16 bit era pale in comparison. It's criminal how ignored this game is, even today.
10. Snake Rattle and Roll 9. Castlevania 2 Simons Quest 8. Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers 7. Gremlins 2 6. TMNT 5. Mega Man 3 4. Faxanadu 3. Mike Tyson Punchout 2. Super Mario Bros 3 1. Mega Man 2
I was so happy you mentioned Crystalis. I put so many hours into that one as well. I really enjoyed the story and the item progression to get stronger.
Great top 10 list, but here's mine (from the games that I played back then) :) : 1) The Legend Of Zelda 2) Super Mario Bros. 3 3) Zelda 2: A Link To The Past 4) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 5) Super Mario Bros. 6) Castlevania 7) The Battle Of Olympus 8) Duck Tales 9) Duck Hunt 10) Gun Smoke
Battle lf olympus FTW!!! I got a physical copy a few years back. Apparently thats a nes game that will only become more and more rare as time passes due to nintendo not owning the rights for emulating it. As nintendo keeps shutting down emulation sites the img could eventually be gone for good.
I wear my “Super Mario Brothers 3” shirt a lot. It’s unbelievable how many people, both young and old, give me a compliment on it and a quick fond memory, while smiling. Great list!
I as well received Super Mario Bros. 2 on Christmas morning in the year 1988. That was THE hard- to-find Christmas gift that year and I felt so fortunate to have gotten it. That game is very dear to my heart.
My favorite games of all Time period. 1-Mario bros 3 2-Megaman 2/3 (their equally great for me) 3-Final fantasy 3 4-Secret of mana 5-Megaman x 6-Final fantasy 7 7-Twilight princess 8-Dragon quest 8 9-Super Mario world 10-Donkey Kong Country Place of honors: Sonic 2/ Sonic and knuckles,Legend of legaia, ys 8 lacrimosa of Diana, megaman 7
Made me reconsider colllecting for nostalgia again :) Literally the first console i ever owned. MegaMan 2,the 3 Mario games, Castlevania 2.... Good times. Ninja Gaiden would likely be on the list as well.
I love your video, I also grown up playing NES games. I remember playing a loot of "Monsters in my pocket" cooperative with a girl from school!, was his game, I got a loot of games, Mario Contra Battle Tanks, That gaming era was crazy!!! Love from Argentina!!!!
4:52 I remember my dad bringing home this magic box, hooking it up and playing Mario. We had a blast with duck hunt also. I took over as he disappeared into the background. We also had Gyruss. My dad loved it. It was epic back then. I remember being in class day dreaming just waiting to get home to play Zelda. I swear that gold cartridge was glowing when I took it out of the box. I even liked the Zelda cartoon. Anything video games on 📺 was awesome. The Mario 3 cartoon. The NES is the greatest game console to me. Just for what it did to gaming and my childhood.
Great video as usual Johnny. My top 10 NES games are 10. Gun-Nac 9. Shatterhand 8. Metroid 7. Duck Tales 6. River City Ransom 5. Paper Boy 4. Mother 3. Goonies II 2. Mega Man 2 1. Super Mario Bros 3 Honorable Mentions: Dragon Quest III, Kirby's Adventure, Wizardry, Ghost Lion, Little Nemo: The Dream Master
@@masterbetty7050 Thanks for the Advice ,) actualy Im planing a review of a EarthBound hack. There are a lot of good stuff there within the ROM Hacking community.
@@RetroRaider I know, it's crazy. Your channel looks fantastic; I'm going to check out some of your videos. Glad we bumped digital heads together haha.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, opinions and stories. I like almost all your picks for games except Rygar and Zelda 2. I tried those games many times over a wide period of time to see if if could get into it, but I just couldn't. They are just too hard for me. My Nes top 10 in no order: Super dodgeball World cup soccer Dr. Mario Super Mario 3 Tetris Kirby Megaman 3 Tmnt 3 FF1 Super C
I still remember the Mario 3 commercial where everyone on Earth is yelling "MARIO!" and it shows the Earth from orbit and it's just Mario's face instead of the entire Western Hemisphere.
Awesome list Johnny! It is good to know someone else likes Castlevania II Simon's Quest besides me. My all time favorite nes game is The Battle Of Olympus and a really close second is Shadowgate because they are practically both my favorite. And then the other 8 games are: Friday The 13th, Batman, Ninja Gaiden I, Metroid, The Immortal, Castlevania III Dracula's Curse, The Legend Of Zelda, and Tombs & Treasure.
God Super Mario Bros 3. . . There are people who exist in today's day & age who have not experienced or appreciated the true glory of what can be hailed as possibly the greatest game of all time. The Godfather of Gaming IMO. Honestly, if there was one game I could play for the rest of my life, only that one, Super Mario Bros 3 would be it.
Makes me so happy that Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest is on your list. I’m so nostalgic about that game. It was the only game my dad and I really played together, and I hate when people bash it
I was hoping you'd do a NES top 10. Lovin these top 10 lists. Props for Crystalis it's a great game. 🌟My Top 10 NES Games🌟 1. Super Mario Bros 3 2. Dragon Warrior IV 3. Final Fantasy 4. Legend of Zelda 5. Crystalis 6. Double Dragon II 7. Castlevania III 8. TMNT II The Arcade Game 9. Megaman II 10. Kirby's Adventure Honorable mentions that almost made it are River City Ransom, Ninja Gaiden, Metroid, Super C, Metal Gear, and Tecmo Super Bowl.
Amazing video. It’s hard to place Crystalis among the Zelda games. In many ways I feel it is superior, but the two Zelda games are so good and such classics. Thank you for this amazing trip down memory lane.
In regard to Castlevania being similar to Ravenloft, Castlevania actually has some ties to DnD IIRC. Years after a Judges Guild module for Dnd called "Tegel Manor" came out, Konami approached Judges Guild with some sort of offer to adapt it into a video game. The deal didn't work out for whatever reason and then shortly after the original Castlevania came out which featured elements similar to the Tegel Manor module.
Loved Simons Quest! I first played it at a friends house, he couldn't get anywhere in it so he gave to cart to me. I remember staying up till the early morning hours for weeks one summer drawing maps and writing down hints until I couldn't progress any further. My only option was to thumb through a Nintendo hint book in Coles book store. "Of course, kneel in front of the cliff with the red jewel equipped!" How could I be so dense 😉
That’s a great top 10 list and great stories that go with it. I remember getting games from my parents, like the first Mega Man, Rygar or Battle for Olympus back in the day because they were cheap and in the end loving it a lot. Greetings all the way from The Netherlands ;)
Loved that. Some great games in there. I missed the whole NES thing at the time. I think I caught the end of it and we borrowed the console a few times off of a mate. But there are some real classic sin there for sure!
1. Super Mario Bros 3 2. Mega Man 2 3. Metroid 4. Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse 5. Crystalis 6. Little Nemo: The Dream Master 7. Star Tropics 8. Duck Tales 9. Super C 10. Super Mario Bros.
My Top ten in no particular order: Final Fantasy Crystalis Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest Maniac Mansion Bionic Commando Star Tropics Ninja Gaiden Shadowgate Guardian Legend Battle of Olympus. I could easily make a top 20 or 30 games for this console.
It's a shame that Simon's Quest never got the remake it deserved. It's a great game, it just could've been executed a little better and probably could've used a bit more development time.
Aaay, I love these lists, so I'll share mine, too :D 10. DuckTales 9. Super Mario Bros 8. Super Mario Bros 3 7. Felix the Cat 6. Final Fantasy 5. Chip n'Dale Rescue Rangers 4. Super Mario Bros 2 3. Megaman 2 2. Megaman 4 1. Kirby's Adventure
This is a hell of a list, can't argue with any of these choices. I couldn't make a top 10 if I had to. Now way I could narrow it down to 10. My brother and I spent so many hours playing games together. This system just blew our mind at the time.
I remember borrowing Final Fantasy in grade 4. I had only played action games and platformers up to that point. I couldn't make sense out of the gameplay, so I never made it anywhere and was glad to return it and get it out of my sight!
What a great list, thanks for sharing! I didn't have a ton of NES games as a kid, but if I were to make a list, at least based on nostalgia, I would probably throw in Ice Hockey and Snake, Rattle n' Roll, lol
Blaster Master is my number one favorite. I bought it when it first came out and 30 years later I still remember how to beat it too!! Contra is my 2nd favorite game. Super Mario is my 3rd, it was the first nes game I beat , loved the secret to get the extra men !! Ninja Gaiden was good, Megaman 2 was awesome !! Mike Tyson's Punch Out is still fun today !! Final Fantasy was awesome in its day(my copy got destroyed in a fire at a friends home along with the strategy guide that was released by nintendo power) !! TMNT 2 The arcade game was fun too !! There were so many great nostalgic games on the nes !! :D
I definitely agree with your #1, I've ripped through that game countless times, avoiding any shortcuts so I could play all of it. The hype was insaaane for that game, and the hype was real haha it lived up to it.
Some of my favorites no particular order. Both Zelda games Castlevania 3, SMB 3, Tetris, Dragons Warrior,Godzilla, Battle of Olympus and Astyanax. Honorable mention to Dragon Spirt.
My top 10: 1. Contra - Run and gun heaven 2. Super Contra - More run and gun heaven 3. Super Mario Bros 3 - Fireworks of genius 4. Ninja Ryukenden III - Quality ninja action 5. Akumajou Densetsu - Castlevania III with killer music 6. Gradius II - Perfect shmup 7. Super Mario Bros - Timeless simplicity and gameplay 8. Adventure Island III - Wonder Boy on steroids 9. Jackie Chan - Platforming beat ˋem up fun 10. Felix the Cat - Feelgood and easy platformer Honorable mentions: Zelda, Duck Tales, Batman, Jackal, Rush‘n Attack, Bionic Commando, Toki, Shatterhand, Powerblade, Bucky O‘Hare, Little Samson, Dragon Quest IV, Crystalis, Castlevania, Gradius, Salamander.
Great video, thanks for the memories. SM3 I figured out how to get 99 men, by carrying a shell backwards and dropping it, and other kids would offer me their lunch deserts for the how-to. Oh how I miss the days we didn't have the Internet and earned bragging rights on our own.
I'm with you on Simon's Quest. Here's the weird thing: before the AVGN video, it was regarded as one of the best Castlevania games! It had an open, explorable world, RPG elements, a great story, AMAZING music. It really heralded the Metroidvania genre, and I remember seeing a preview of SotN that said Castlevania was "finally going back to the RPG stylings of Simon's Quest". Simon's Quest was the first Castlevania I ever played, and it is still top 5 to me. When I was maybe 8 years old that game made me want to be a vampire hunter, roaming the Transylvanian countryside, and vampires were an obsession of mine well into my late teens. ALL because of Simon's Quest. It gets a really bad rap, along with SMB2 and Zelda 2, but for me it's easily on my top 10 NES titles list.
Love NES Strider. The music was so cool. I was really young so I couldn't beat it. Contra was amazing. Castlevania 2 (awesome music). Crystalis, very happy that this is on your list, huge game for me. Final Fantasy 1 was pretty fun, I was my older brothers leveler. I like Zelda 2 more than the first because that's the one I have. I almost entirely agree with your choices. All the SMB games were awesome and still hold up. Ninja Gaiden and MTs Punch Out are all that's missing to make this into my own top 10.
Always love watching your videos! Keep 'em coming man. My personal top 10 1. Bucky O'Hare 2. Metal Storm 3. River City Ransom 4. Ninja Gaiden 5. Castlevania 6. Super Mario Bros 2 7. Shatterhand 8. Contra 9. Mike Tysons Punch Out!! 10. Crystalis Honorable mentions: Legend of Zelda, Bionic Commando, Power blade, Felix the cat, SMB3, Castlevania 2 and 3...oh the list goes on. This is such a hard thing to do. The NES is one of my favorite systems of all time
@Nostalgia Addict1978 I agree. SMB3 would never make my top 10. I think most people have nostalgia for it from they're childhood. But we all have opinions. I honestly forgot to mention Duck tales as well too.
@Nostalgia Addict1978 Super Mario World did age much better. But in my humble opinion i think most SNES games aged incredibly well. Its an artistic style and the colors are beautiful. Controls are amazing and the music was killer! I think it has to be one of the most influential gaming systems ever. Games like secret of mana, chrono trigger, earthbound, super castlevania 4, contra 3, yoshis island(which i believe to be better than super mario world), donkey kong country, knights of the round, ogre battle, zombies ate my neighbors, super metroid, LOZ a link to the past..etc...etc.
@Nostalgia Addict1978 i wasnt lucky enough to be born in that time period. I was born in 1995. But my family was poor so i played nes and super nes games in the early 2000s. First game i ever played was nes paperboy ha
@Nostalgia Addict1978 no need to be sorry. Sometimes life hands you lemons. Its what you do with those lemons that define who you are. But i agree. While i actually think ps2 is a pretty damn good system. I love Snes, nes, turbografx16, sega saturn, mastersystem and genesis better. 32x kinda sucked and so did 3DO, sega cd, atari jaguar and so on. But i do enjoy classic games more as a whole. Ps1 games and n64 games imo have aged the worse. But that doesnt mean there arent good games for those systems either. Banjo kazooie is fantastic and so is perfect dark for the n64. Ps1 had a great library of jrpgs .
1. Legend of Zelda. 2. Castlevania 2, 3. Super Mario bros 3, 4. Contra 5. Mike Tyson’s punch out, 6. Metroid 7. Goodies 2, 8. Karnov 9. Duck tales. 10. Deja vu...I did my favorite castlevania, SMB, and Zelda games because they can be on the list I can also add much more games!
Seeing super Mario Bros 3 in the wizard was amazing. My dad got it for me for running a mile. Amazing gaming experience. Simon's quest and Zelda 2 are underrated.
Great list John!! you prompted some good memories, I think I love rygar more than I should. honestly I was disappointed at first because I played the arcade version 1st, so playing it, " I was like what the heck is this." Over time my fondness grew and I gotta say NES rygar is the better version. I remember randomly receiving a cartridge in the mail tied to my Nintendo power subscription *Dragon Warrior. bro I tried to play and play the game and like you said no internet back then not the same amount of stimulus, not even close. it didnt grab me, and till this day, I cant. but i love the turbografx lol. my super Mario 3 experience was different, I got to play it early a local pizza parlor here in L.A. in RGB I might add (no way I knew about those capabilities back then) on a play-choice 10. I dont know if you'll read this, but thanks for your passion, and the all the content over the years. Rick
It's nice to see River City Ransom getting love on some of these people's lists. Definitely one of my top 5. Surprisingly, I never owned it growing up. But it was, by far, the game my brother and I rented the most. We probably should have just purchased it and saved money in the long run.
Really nice list, i'd add somewhere Castlevania III, Ninja Gaiden II, Ducktales, and yes Battletoads, i did finish this one so i have an unbreakable respect for it.
Final fantasy, Zelda, Castlevania 2, kickle cubicle, blaste master, contra, goonies, Mario 1, Mario 2 and Mario 3 were my childhood games growing up but can't do a top 10 cause it had so many fun games and so much nostalgia
Use to have the whole neighborhood at my house. My parents were like why are 50 people in the house lol. I had 140 games at the time. Now still have it and over 210 games. :) My list of top 10: 1. Zelda 2. Super Mario Brothers 3 3. Little Samson 4. Contra 5. Bionic Commando 6. Mega Man 2 7. Destiny of an Emperor 8. Power Blade 9. Castlevania 3 10. Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Cool list. I've never heard about Crystalis. I might try it one day. In Europe, we didn't have rpg's on console until ff7 (or on emulator). If we except Zelda and Secret Of Mana. Some nes games worth playing. Ducktales 2, DarkwingDuck, Chip and Dale 2, Maniac Mansion, Little Samson, Home Sweet (emulation), Kirby, Batman, Mother (emulation), Yume Penguin Monogatari (emulation). Must admit that, after playing the Castevlanias on DS and Dark Souls, I find Simon's Quest interesting.
Great video! I've always said the NES is the perfect golden ratio of bits / graphics and music / audio that just scream FUN! Even though I placed Megaman 2 above Super Mario Bros. 3 it definitely is the best 8-bit Mario game and rivals even Super Mario World. Really enjoyed the video!
I really like your videos and positive attitude. It makes me feel great
"Whoa boi I feel Great!"
Me too.

Great games, I'm missing those good old times so much - no download only games, no remake of a remake's remake, no lootboxes, no first day patch! Just insert it and have fun!!!

Legend of Zelda is my number one! And the music... Just awesome. What a great and epic game.
I really appreciate you sharing your personal stories about your experience with the games. It is what really makes your channel stand out against the other gaming channels.
HCG nostalgia time. Bliss. Nothing better
Video opens with the theme from Simon's Quest playing in the background. OF COURSE IT's ON THE LIST!😂

I'm new to the NES scene. I just play some roms when I have some time off and I usually do that with Zelda 2, Ninja Gaiden, Ducktales and Mario 2.
(Some NES games were made to be hard and I never got to finish Metroid or Ninja Gaiden JUST because of the last boss :p )
But lately I've been trying some games I haven't heard of before and I find myself having a blast with those.
Faxanadu, Gun Nac, and Dr. Chaos are great.
I'm still finding out NES games little by little and this is really becoming one of my favorite systems.
My top Ten in no particular order:
-Maniac mansion
-River City Ransome
-Zelda
-Mario 3
-Double Dragon 2
-Final Fantasy
-Bubble Bobble
-Ninja turtles Arcade
-Super Dodgeball
-Metroid
Fantastic recap. Dude, I remember being in summer school back in 1988 and EVERYONE was talking about Legend of Zelda. It was all the rage...faster forward to 1990 and there was literal hysteria for Super Mario Bros. 3. I think my parents paid about $90 for it, the single most expensive NES game I ever got. Still have it to this day along with my NES.
FAXANADU... The most overlooked gem in the NES library.
Love Faxanadu! I can still hear the music in my head. It was so atmospheric!
Almost. Destiny of an Emperor is even better and far more overlooked. That RPG was so far ahead of it's time compared to anything else on the system. Even most of the RPG's of the 16 bit era pale in comparison. It's criminal how ignored this game is, even today.
@@VideoGameVictims I definitely need to check it out! Thanks for the recommendation

I was so happy you mentioned Crystalis. I put so many hours into that one as well. I really enjoyed the story and the item progression to get stronger.
Great top 10 list, but here's mine (from the games that I played back then) :) :
1) The Legend Of Zelda
2) Super Mario Bros. 3
3) Zelda 2: A Link To The Past
4) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
5) Super Mario Bros.
6) Castlevania
7) The Battle Of Olympus
8) Duck Tales
9) Duck Hunt
10) Gun Smoke
Battle lf olympus FTW!!! I got a physical copy a few years back. Apparently thats a nes game that will only become more and more rare as time passes due to nintendo not owning the rights for emulating it. As nintendo keeps shutting down emulation sites the img could eventually be gone for good.
I wear my “Super Mario Brothers 3” shirt a lot. It’s unbelievable how many people, both young and old, give me a compliment on it and a quick fond memory, while smiling. Great list!
I agree with your #1 spot, SMB3 is the greatest NES game of all time.
100%!
Mega Man 4 was better.
I as well received Super Mario Bros. 2 on Christmas morning in the year 1988. That was THE hard- to-find Christmas gift that year and I felt so fortunate to have gotten it. That game is very dear to my heart.
My favorite games of all Time period.
1-Mario bros 3
2-Megaman 2/3 (their equally great for me)
3-Final fantasy 3
4-Secret of mana

Do you mean actual Famicom Final Fantasy 3 or Final Fantasy 6?
Moises Corral final fantasy 6 of course ff 3 for the snes
I can feel your nostalgia! Thanks for sharing!
For awhile after Mario 3 came out, it was so good I lost appreciation for all other games.
Playing Crystalis on the Nintendo Switch Online App was what got me into finding and playing NES games.
Made me reconsider colllecting for nostalgia again :) Literally the first console i ever owned. MegaMan 2,the 3 Mario games, Castlevania 2.... Good times. Ninja Gaiden would likely be on the list as well.
I call it the regular Nintendo till this day
I love your video, I also grown up playing NES games.
My top 10 NES games are
10. Gun-Nac
9. Shatterhand
8. Metroid
7. Duck Tales
6. River City Ransom

I really need to check out Mother for the Famicom/NES.
@@RetroRaider It's not nearly as good as Mother 2 or Mother 3. Try out Mother 3, you'll thank me later.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, opinions and stories. I like almost all your picks for games except Rygar and Zelda 2. I tried those games many times over a wide period of time to see if if could get into it, but I just couldn't. They are just too hard for me.

Great list Johnny, thanks for your enthusiasm!
So happy to see some love for Zelda 2! I love this game so much.
I really do not get the hate for that game. Not the best Zelda game ever, but It is fun.
Great selection, love it!!!!
I still remember the Mario 3 commercial where everyone on Earth is yelling "MARIO!" and it shows the Earth from orbit and it's just Mario's face instead of the entire Western Hemisphere.
Great list! Many of my top 10 as well. I would have River City Ransom and Maniac Mansion on my list 😁 👍🏻
Yes River city Ransom i loved that too and Maniac Mansion awesome games.
River City the best and only pure RPG fighting game ever made.
I prayed simons quest was in here after hearing the background music! My first castlevania and still my favourite. Top list as always sir!

4. Legend of Zelda
5. Crystalis
6. Double Dragon II
7. Castlevania III
8. TMNT II The Arcade Game
9. Megaman II
10. Kirby's Adventure
Honorable mentions that almost made it are River City Ransom, Ninja Gaiden, Metroid, Super C, Metal Gear, and Tecmo Super Bowl.
My favorite childhood Nes games: Gradius, Smash brothers, Goonies, Contra, life force and Metroid

I could easily make a top 20 or 30 games for this console.
It's a shame that Simon's Quest never got the remake it deserved. It's a great game, it just could've been executed a little better and probably could've used a bit more development time.
Yeah Mario 3 is the best NES game. It never gets boring to me.
Aaay, I love these lists, so I'll share mine, too :D

5. Chip n'Dale Rescue Rangers
4. Super Mario Bros 2
3. Megaman 2
2. Megaman 4
I always love the story of you and your Dad at 5:00. What a good memory. Envious.
What a great list, thanks for sharing! I didn't have a ton of NES games as a kid, but if I were to make a list, at least based on nostalgia, I would probably throw in Ice Hockey and Snake, Rattle n' Roll, lol
The first nes game, I have ever played was mike tysons punch out. I consider that my number one nes game.

i respect tecmo super bowl on your list. Not many people even put it in their top 10 and it's criminal! its my #1 :)
I definitely agree with your #1, I've ripped through that game countless times, avoiding any shortcuts so I could play all of it. The hype was insaaane for that game, and the hype was real haha it lived up to it.
My favorite video game of all time is pacman. I just can't get enough of this game it's so awesome and very addicting.
Some of my favorites no particular order. Both Zelda games Castlevania 3, SMB 3, Tetris, Dragons Warrior,Godzilla, Battle of Olympus and Astyanax. Honorable mention to Dragon Spirt.
Journey to Silius deserves more recognition. Especially that soundtrack.

Great video, thanks for the memories.
SM3 I figured out how to get 99 men, by carrying a shell backwards and dropping it,
and other kids would offer me their lunch deserts for the how-to.
Oh how I miss the days we didn't have the Internet and earned bragging rights on our own.
Faxanadu is one of my all time favorites, it was the first game that gave me a true feeling of wonder.
I've been waiting on this video. The kettle is on now! 😊
I knew exactly what your number one was when we got into the top 5 😂 . . It's also my favourite NES game. Mario Bros 3 is a perfect game.
Johnny, where do you get your shirts from? That Ninja Gaiden shirt is badass.
Id like to know too lol.
Always love watching your videos! Keep 'em coming man.

8. Contra
9. Mike Tysons Punch Out!!
10. Crystalis
Honorable mentions: Legend of Zelda, Bionic Commando, Power blade, Felix the cat, SMB3, Castlevania 2 and 3...oh the list goes on.
Blaster Master and Little Nemo in Dreamland were some of my top rented games, aside from the Megaman games.
Rick

5. Metroid
6. Double Dragon 1
7. Double Dragon 2
8. DragonQuest

10. Mike Tyson's Punch Out (not the other punch out)
It's nice to see River City Ransom getting love on some of these people's lists.
Zelda II startet it for me to learn english. What a throwback! Thank you!
Use to have the whole neighborhood at my house. My parents were like why are 50 people in the house lol. I had 140 games at the time. Now still have it and over 210 games. :)

3. Little Samson
4. Contra
5. Bionic Commando
6. Mega Man 2
7. Destiny of an Emperor
8. Power Blade
9. Castlevania 3
