My sports pick that every gamer should play is NFL Blitz!!! I’m a 90s kid and man it was so much fun and you didn’t have to be a great gamer to have a lot of fun!
Fax. SSX falls kinda short in the sports category, imho. Having so much realistic games (FIFA and NBA2K before microtransactions, etc.), even THPS gives you more punch than SSX. I'd still go with NBA Jam because I'm also a 90's kid and I mean... How could the all time arcade collector ever not be the top dog, right?
I'm 41. I stopped playing video games at 30. At 35, Shenmue 3 had a kickstsrter and I got back into games and at 38, I went back and started playing old school games I missed and have average 25 a year since.

Best puzzle game for me is Portal 2. That game is just perfection. Incredibly well designed levels and mechanics. Hilarious voiceover work, great music. I am begging for a current gen remake of the 2 portal games! 🙏🏻
My goat puzzle game is Baba is you. You should definitely check it out. If you were able to beat portal 2 on your own, baba is you is gonna be a great challenge.
Yea I feel like he shouldn't have said Tetris for the same reason he didn't say original Mario Bros. Yes Tetris is a puzzle game no question but yeah, Portal 2 should have been at least an honorable mention.
Definitely! The ME trilogy is among my favorite games ever. I'm currently playing through the Legendary Edition, and so far it certainly lives up to the original. I'm just hoping they finally fixed the infamous 'Blackout glitch', but I'll find out soon enough.
@@pnut3844able this is exactly why I preferred ME1. Sniping was very difficult but got easier as you pumped points into the ability, just as it should be. I didn't enjoy how ME2 just became an action game. Also having a universal cool down for abilities instead of a cool down for each ability meant you couldn't do combos anymore and made abilities a lot less useful and fun. I used to love lifting an enemy and combining it with push to throw them into space.
I have a bit of an embarrasing question... You know pretty early on in the game I dont remember after which section but when you get introduced to your new ship. Well im kinda stuck Im not sure how I visit a planet or where Im supposed to go to start the story who am I supposed to talk to? Ive been wandering aimlessly and just stopped playing after that Im so confused
Agreed with this big time. Would absolutely watch more iterations of this, even reiterations with the same categories but different games, just because!
yeah the voice acting really elevates the game with classic quotes. Love the "welcome....TO MY LAIR" and Wheatley trying to get to jump off of the platform surrounded by spikes at the end of the game. If you actually do he even has an alternate voice line that is hilarious.
Halo3 Conker's Bad Fur Day Portal 2 Red Dead Redemption Resident Evil 4 LoZ Ocarina of Time Just a few games that I personally believe everyone should play at least once
Yup. I made the mistake of playing ME2 first, and then hating 1 when I played it, and not so much liking 3. I wish I'd played 1 first so I appreciated just how damn good 2 was after. Playing 2 first, I had expectations 1 and 3 would be nearly as good, and both were half as good. Then I played Andromeda, which hit home just how perfect ME2 actually was. Easily a 10/10 game
@@pittibarlin8692 yea you kinda made a mistake there, not that i hate the first mass effect i remember it fondly but mass effect 2 was just a "sequel done right" in every way and when i played it after the first one i was hooked to the series, it jumped from being "a cool universe" to the best "sci fi videogame" with the second one. Only some weird purists like to bash mass effect 2 calling it "casual", i agree they made it more casual...but at the same time so much more fun, better looking, more immersive less clunky more interesting.
RPG - Skyrim 2D Platformer - Super Mario World First Person Shooter - Call of Duty Black Ops II Puzzle - Portal 2 Open World - Red Dead Redemption 2 Racing - Mario Kart Wii Sports - Skate 3 3D Platformer - Banjo Kazooie 3rd Person Action/Adventure - Resident Evil 4 Strategy - Hearts of Iron IV I will say that this should be way bigger like a top 100 games every gamer should play, but this is my list based off of the video.
Eyso it is sometimes said that a game is only as good as the amount of time it takes it to introduce a red explosive barrel next to an enemy. Half Life takes that overused concept of lazy game design and makes it the center of some brilliant puzzles. That’s a classic.
I remember reading and article about game design, and during some test games for some game (can't remember which one) the developers noticed that NONE of the test players where shooting at the barrels. Why? Because they wheren't red, but green.
I mean, it's because he's right. Maybe people who never got the chance to play crash mode with friends or at a party won't get it. But once you try it with a group of people, you'll realize what a crime it is that it hasn't been replicated on modern hardware.
Burnout 3 is a gem of epic proportions because the sequels just never actually improved on it, and even removed key modes that made it great. Imagine a modern simultaneous multiplayer crash mode variation... Ugh.
@@MetalJesusRocks have you played the top down burnout crash mode game? If it's still available it was a digital only. I think i have it on my 360. Definitely helps fill that void.
So absolutely correct on Burnout 3. I can't stand the open world versions. Just keep praying they will release a new or remastered version of the classic burnout. Well done sir.
@@lintangmuktiprabowo3993 I never played a zelda game. So I tried out Breath of the wild... after 2hours of it I eventually gave up because I had no idea what to do & kept dying to snow. Couldn't find safe passage to any of the shrines it told me to go to. I did do one of the puzzles, but it was confusing on controls. It's one of the worst experiences I ever had playing a new game. I decided to give Link's Awakening a try as well... surely it can't be that bad as BOtW... spent about 2-3hrs...on it and couldn't for figure out how to get through the first forest without being teleported back to the beginning... even after I got passed that... I got stumped on what came after. The town people were useless. Couldn't buy anything at the shop with rupees. I'm not sure if all zelda games are like this... but they feel way to hard for someone new to the franchise to get into & doesn't leave a good first impression considering everywhere on the internet giving praise to zelda games as a masterpiece. I really wanted to like it, but after trying out two different games.. It felt extremely overhwelming & exhuasting.
These aren't my top ten favorites and it doesn't really fit your one per genre rule, but these are the 10 games that I think every gamer should play Bioshock, Mass Effect 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Souls, Final Fantasy 7, Silent Hill 2, Pokemon Firered/Leafgreen, Super Smash Bros Melee, Banjo Kazooie, Halo 2
My personal list: 1. Minecraft - easy to understand but open to limitless possibilities. It's also pretty much a cultural touchstone now 2. Super Mario Galaxy - incredibly unique & creative 3D platformer with a surprisingly deep story 3. Portal 2 - the portal gun is probably the most interesting mechanic ever conceived for a video game. No other game feels quite like it. 4. Tetris - same reasons you mentioned in the video. It's timeless 5. Stardew Valley - the definitive cozy simulation game. Perfect for anyone who wants a nonviolent video game that is still fun to play 6. The Last of Us - demonstrates the narrative & cinematic potential of video games better than anything else I've played 7. Overcooked - my family's go-to local multiplayer game, and most of them don't play video games. Always a blast to fire up 8. Skyrim - the base game itself is great, but the modding community is what truly makes it special. It's a game that you can bend and tweak to be whatever you want it to be 9. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - as much a piece of artwork as it is a game. Its haunting imagery and themes stick with you long after you've turned the console off 10. Hollow Knight - my favorite game of all time. Beautiful, challenging, intriguing, addicting, the crown jewel of metroidvanias
My list would be: RPG: Divinity Original Sin 2. Honorable mention - Shin Megami Tensei 4. 2D Platformer - Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Honorable Mention - Hollow Knight. FPS: Metro 2033. Honorable mention - F.E.A.R. Puzzle: 999 (does it count?). Honorable mention - Lumines. Open World: Yakuza 0. Honorable mention: Death Stranding. Racing: Dirt Rally 2.0. Honorable mention - Need for Speed Underground 1. Sports: NCAA Football 14. Honorable mention - Fifa Street 2. 3d Platformer: Jak 3. Honorable Mention - Crash Bandicoot Warped. 3rd Person Action Adventure: Prince of Persia Warrior Within. Honorable mention - Onimusha 3 (kinda I guess). Strategy - StarCraft 2. Honorable mention: Xcom 2. More honorable mentions: Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us 2, Fallout New Vegas, Judgment, Nier 1 and Automata, Metal Gear Solid franchise, Bloodborne, Shadow of War, Dragon Quest XI and Builders 2. And probably many more...
Bought it the day it came out at Toys-R-Us, was probably about 8 at the time. Had my allowance money saved up and ready to go. Probably the only game I bought when I was a kid that I hadn't even seen anyone play before because it was so hyped, everyone just knew Nintendo was not fucking around! It did not disappoint. Just the right amount of difficulty. Achievable to pass even without a save/password mechanism, but not something you can beat in 10 minutes like SMB1. Hard to even include 2 in there because it was a very different game. Agree with @Chuck Smith, I usually play the all stars one, cause they did an amazing job just updating the graphics while keeping 100% of the gameplay.
You are awesome! It’s so enjoyable to just hear the passion that you pour into the games - and it’s not because you have to be positive - well this is a best of video, but generally… you just pour energy into everything you do. It feels so great to listen to your voice over these games. You’re doing a great job. I’m a bit late to this video, but keep this stuff up. You’re doing a great job!!!
I was skeptical going into this video, but then the very first game on the list is one of my all time favorites. Well played sir, well played. You may continue.
A good idea for a video would be games you've not finished. Either due to time or lost interest etc.. If you look at the achievements, very few people actually finiah the story in many games.
Yeah, I've been playing games since the 80s, and I think I've only completed 40% of the games I've played. Unnecessary grinding, not being able to save at convenient points, stupidly long and boring boss battles and just repetitive gameplay (stand up Assassins Creed) have made me shelve a game forever.
I'm still sad I never finished GTA: Vice City... Got really really far and then got frustrated with a shooting missions because of the wonky controls...
What i love about these videos, is that a 50 year old man is still so dedicated to video games. Lots of people lose interest as the years go by. And I've been asked multiple times if "I'm not too old" to be playing and collecting.
@@shaun8062 That's' not what I said at all :) I just said that a lot of people lose interest as they grow older. I'm 40 myself, so it wasn't a negative comment.
Was stoked to see Burnout and SSX on the same list. Both games were from the same dev team, and it shows. They knew how to make games that just felt right.
For your ranking system I’d do: RPG - Pokémon Red/Blue Platformer - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night FPS - COD Black Ops 1 Puzzle - Tetris Open World - GTA (Any) Racing - NFS Most Wanted Sports - NFL Blitz 3D Platformer - Super Mario 64 3rd Person Action Adventure - Resident Evil 4 Strategy - StarCraft
I'd buy Burnout 3 takedown remastered in a heartbeat. its so good, he was still thinking of the game while doing the sports section and used the same title card @ 13:04
Honestly try out every game on this list. Including the ones where he goes “I love skyrim and breath of the wild buuuut” even try the ones before the but.
Breath of the wild makes me :( They didn't try very hard on the art direction, and the music for zeldas been going down the toilet ever since majoras mask
I've been much more picky when it comes to video games over the last ten years or so. Indie games seem to be better in a lot of ways, and I think it's because independent studios are more willing to take risks and try something new. I don't think I could ever make a list of games that everyone should play, partly because I'd first have to know what types of games a person likes. Just because I love certain games doesn't mean that most people would like them. I'd probably just recommend a few games that are really good and free.
@@cliffshockley4406 There's no such thing as a game that's "for everyone", I know a lot of people who don't like GTA5 yet they do enjoy Zelda. No top 10 list will ever match "everyone" no matter what you choose.
Mass effect 2, great call. Never played a game where all those decisions came home to roost like this game. Suicide mission is my favourite hour of gaming full stop.
I couldn't agree more. The suicide mission is just incredible. And this is coming from someone who grew up in the age of NES, SNES, etc. and didn't really play any new games after 2008 or so. However, Mass Effect made me take notice and wake up, as well as the original Dragon Age.
I'd have to disagree with mass effect 2 for the rpg category, I feel like it's more of a 3rd person open world like uncharted. I would've picked earthbound or chrono trigger or ff7. I think they really Kickstarted ideas for future rpgs
+1 for Chrono Trigger. The fact that it has múltiple endings and son many things to discover (for example the different ítems depending on what time you open the chests), just amazing.
@@neilanderthal3694 I agree with TundraFox. Turn based RPGs can be very hard for many to get into. Most are very long games and have alot of reading and story to follow and remember. a more casual gamer ,which is the majority of gamers, are not gonna sink dozens and dozens of hours into a 90s JRPG. A game like Mass Effect 2 is very easy to pick up and play as well as very easy to follow and enjoy.
First of all, amazing shirt! Secondly, I can only imagine how difficult it was to only select a handful of games for this list! Cheers and rock on, Metal Jesus!
I was thinking the same thing, I beat the single player and had my friend help me play the Co-op. I don’t think I have ever had more fun playing a game than playing the co-op
I immediately went to the comment section after the end of the video to look for this comment! Portal 2 is such an amazing game, I was just blown away by it. Everything in this game is amazing: the puzzles, the ambiance, the story, the level design... Like some other people I understand why it isn't on the list but it deserved at least an honorable mention :)
@@dablindscooter1973 Gotta agree on that. I have played it through and for sure it's not a bad game. But I would still put like Elder Scrolls Oblivion or Witcher 3 to higher place than botw. Botw is overall good, yet it doesn't have anything spectacular, but Oblivion still has maybe the most gorgeous soundtrack and was really advanced title on many levels back then. Then Witcher 3 has so much better atmosphere in it, plus on par soundtrack too.
I wouldn’t say OOT is a must play, other than nostalgia reasons I don’t see why it’s a must play. Of course if you’re a Zelda fan then it is but otherwise it doesn’t really do anything that puts it in the “must play” category. I would put games such as Portal 2 (for its unique puzzle solving) Last of Us Part 1 (for its cinematic level story telling and characters) and I would throw a Final Fantasy game in there as well because everyone seems to have a favourite, it’s just tricky deciding which one I would recommend.
I played on original Xbox, it’s a Pirate simulator!! I remember getting really old and saving it, before I went into port to divvy up the loot. It forced me to retire. I reloaded my save and played it for like 10 more years. I was swinging the rapier like it was the big heavy sword. Great game
Idk- it just never seems to develop for me. Like I get that there’s a story, but it’s so hard to get to it. Several hours worth of destroying stuff with pirate ships tho
There are so many great games. I remember when I first fell in love with gaming on the Sega console. Now I am retired and gaming has become my favorite thing again? My wife say I spend way to much time gaming! It's nice to be able to afford the best gear. I can't wait to show the world of gaming to my grandchildren when they get a little older!!
2k football on Dreamcast was great. Better than madden. Then Madden bought the rights to NFL and has been stunted ever since. I've played it every year for the roster updates but I think competition would have been good for the series.
Yeah, Celeste is amazing, but the thing is, it´s a precision platformer; It´s hardcore. So you can´t really "recommend it to everyone" because most people kinda suck.
@@phillipmorin2905they're both incredible games, but Celeste still has better platforming imo. HK's platforming mostly shines in combat (i.e. Colosseum) or The White Palace
Celeste was a fucking bore. The whole thing looked and played the same beginning to end. I cannot believe the hype it gets. Massively overrated in my opinion.
I noticed how many of these games are more or less the kind that lets you explore the environment, go nuts, play around with the game’s mechanics and figure out creative ways to proceed. You definitely have a favourite genre, I’m guessing you also enjoyed the PREY reboot and Vampire the masquerade bloodlines if you ever played either.
@@domenicodipippo1957 I've beaten both multipe times :D And you're right, didn't even mentioned them all. But I love when game is or has immersive sim elements in it. Nothing can top the atmosphere for me in those games. I hope C2077 will scratch that itch or that someone with enough resources and talent will take over System Shock 3.
So glad to have played a majority of these in my youth. As you stated, when we would have non gamer friends over as kids, SSX Tricky and the Burnout games were so accessible that everyone had fun and wanted to keep playing. I have to add that the Conquest mode in Star Wars Battlefronts is among the most fun I've had sitting with someone in a room and playing split screen. The game design was just ok but for some reason that co-op was sooo fun.
I totally share the same feeling / frustration over EA constantly re-releasing Burnout Paradise for every console and in HD at every chance they have, while it was Burnout 3 Takedown / Revenge that was the most defining game of that series, which is sorely missing an updated HD version for modern PC / Consoles.
Man, I haven’t seen one of your vids in years since I used to watch with my dad as a kid! So glad this vid popped up on my feed just looking around youtube. Seems I have a great taste in games because I nearly guessed a few of these. Great vid, love ya MetalJesus!
I would say my favorite 2D platformer would have to be Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I know its an RPG but it also fits into the 2D platformer genre. Would fit great in either, regardless, it's still a must play.
@@shawnpatterson2230 I enjoyed Aria but I found myself even more drawn into Dawn of sorrow. All those games are really well done though. Order of Ecclesia is great too....just harder than the other ones
You forgot Minecraft, that’s it’s own magical category , that’s what got me into gaming and that’s what keeps me there. If you haven’t played the 2nd best selling game of all time your missing out
@alan caprock You mean shudder? Also, I support you GalacticGames, I also think Minecraft deserves a spot in the spotlight, even if it may not be in my top ten games, I can see why it makes other people's top lists.
@alan caprock You catch on quick, that was precisely my intention, but just like I knew you meant “shudder”, you already knew my intentions as well. What exactly about liking Minecraft makes you “shudder”? A normal, non-dick response would be “I disagree” or “I think Minecraft has a lot of issues that people don’t really address which is why I’m glad he didn’t include it” but you went with “You just made me shutter.” And IMO my response was warranted
Right on the money, METAL JESUS! A perfect "cross section" of 10 genres, and great "starting point" (entry level) games within each. P.S. For the love of the gaming gods, if at all possible, in future videos could you put the name of the game on the screen for any and all gameplay footage? Often I see a second or two of a game, and I'm like, "that game looks freakin' awesome!" or "I remember that game, but don't recall the name!" ... That would totally rock. Metal style. \m/
Agree or put a list of featured games used in the video below in the description. Also make sure the game title matches the footage being shown. Footage for SSX Tricky has the game name for burnout 3 takedown shown at he start when it was playing.
You forgot 1 genre: point & click like Nancy Drew series And if I can add: Resident Evil series for Survival Horror Fire Emblem series for Tactics Harvest Moon, The Sims, Animal Crossing for Simulation Last but not least Downhill Domination for Bike Racing
Great job picking this out. Burnout 3 is also one of my favorites. I wish Super Smash Bros Ultimate or Super Mario 64 made it onto the list…Super Mario 64 in particular is what got me hooked into gaming. Oh and I loved the honorable mention to Ms Pac-Man. I remember many Summer days at the arcade just playing that one title.
My honorable mentions (all genres and all consoles): Final Fantasy 12, GTA San Andreas, The Last Of Us, Warcraft 3, Unreal Tournament, Crash Team Racing, Super Mario 64, Nier Automata, Gran Turismo 4, Goldeneye 64, Pokemon Platinum, Crash Bash, Overwatch, Need For Speed Prostreet, Digimon Rumble Arena, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Shadow of Colossus, Tekken 6, Battlefield 1, Guitar Hero 3
@@speedwaynutt I honestly got bored and ultimately annoyed by the takedowns, got in the way of the arcade style racing. Also the graphical style from 3 onwards was just less arcade vibrant and more COD gritty which didn't sit with me well.
I actually lean more toward Burnout Revenge, 360 version. The enhanced visuals help a lot, the traffic checking - while many don't like this - allows for more traffic on the tracks to increase the excitement, and I feel the sense of speed and intensity is a bit higher.
Despite my namesake, FIFA Street 2 is a sports game that I'd recommend everyone plays at least once. As a street football game, it's two teams of 4 (as opposed to two teams of 11), which makes it a lot easier to process what's going on. You don't need to worry as much about formations, tactics, etc. It also places a heavy emphasis on performing skills, which is quite exciting. There is also a story mode (for lack of a better term), which is actually really fun and can be played solo or co-op
Games I recommend Action adventure: Zelda Ocarina Of Time RPG: Chrono Trigger First Person Shooter: Half-life Puzzle: Portal 1,2 2D platform: Donkey Kong Country
Wow, this is an excellent video. This is an EXCELLENT list. I agree that if someone is trying to decide which game to play. One could enjoy most of these games right off the bat.
Agreed with starcraft although I must say warcraft two and warcraft three were amazing in there own right. Though yes starcraft would probably place higher
Fallout 2 and Baldur's Gate 1 or 2 are some of my favorite RPGs, but Ultima 7 the Black Gate is my all time fav. For shooters I have to go with System Shock 2 being the most complete immersion I've ever seen. Totally agree on Civ for strategy, but Dune 2 deserves a mention as well.
I loved it and I agreed with you on pretty much everything. I've been gaming for 35+ years starting with the Atari and Commodore 64, Amiga 500 and all the consoles. For racing Burnout 3 was the best in the series. I must've spent 100+ hours in that one. Mario 3 is the pinnacle of 2D platformer style, design and depth. Deus Ex the first one from the 90's still to me is one of the best games of my life. I loved Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 on the PC. Besides the Zelda ones I played on NES and SNES. One of the best story driven games: Grim Fandango I agree with SSX Tricky as well. I don't play sports games much, except for Fifa or NBA Jam, but SSX Tricky was so easy to get into. And the more time you invested in it you would learn all these little tricks and locations to start improving your scores. And every time you landed a huge trick just when you think you would fail the landing was an awesome feeling every single time
I think breath of fire was very challenging for the first time since I was new to other gba games (except Pokemon ones). Loved the robot sacrifice and cute theme as well as the rpg genre!
My list: - Super Mario World - DOOM 1993 - Space Invaders - Tetris - Zelda: A Link to the Past - Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Sonic 2 - Super Mario 64 - Pac-Man - Minecraft My list was more historic, maybe not the very best games ever released, but some of the most important games for the industry.
Great choices. Missing VR category might be HL Alyx and mention Lone Echo. Other than that, kudos and try to make this in 1 year to see what would change.

Great choices, MJ! I would actually love to see this series revisited from time to time! Like, “Ten More Must-Play Games” or whatever. Anyway, great video and I’ll have to check a few of these out that I never got around to!
Right? I hate how they portray their ads as independent reviews. "Hey guys, Lit mobile just sent me this. Let's check it out!" Deceptive marketing. BTW I didn't get a Lit mobile ad on this video. I got a Jews for Jesus ad, which is really surprising (I don't view any religious videos). I guess because it's a MetalJesus video?
100% agree. 3 & 4 were great imo. Also for survival horror, Eternal Darkness (GameCube). Super Metroid (well any Metroid) like the video poster said, I could go on and on and on...
I banned myself from playing that game. It was too addictive. It scared me how many hours I could play it without needing food, drink, friendship...the toilet.
@@kamekosby935 no, it's an older PC game. You can buy it on GOG though and I cannot recommend it enough. It is such an amazing game. I actually started playing it with my kids a few weeks ago and it is still great. But I agree with his pick of Civ. I guess that is the game series I played the most.
I'd put Dragon Age: Origins over Mass Effect 2 for how much freedom there is to roleplay. Mass Effect only let you roleplay as whatever your version of Shepherd was. Origins on the other hand let you craft a unique character complete with an origin story that you get to play through that adds context and meaning to who you choose to be and what your place in the world is, and throughout the game that is reinforced through NPC and Companion dialogue.

Pretty late comment, 'cuz I've just watched this video for the first time. But as soon as I saw 'RPG' I thought exactly the same as you to put Dragon Age: Origins over Mass Effect 2 in it. Like you said, there's so much freedom to roleplay your character and there's so many decisions to make, it's just awesome. To me, DA:O is an RPG masterpiece. I REALLY LOVE the whole ME trilogy, but I still prefer DA:O a bit more. It's my favorite RPG ever made.

First of all, as a hardcore gamer, these are all great suggestions for new/casual gamers. Excellent list. Secondly, you never talked about horror games! I highly recommend everyone play a classic Silent Hill game. Silent Hill 2 is the most accessible being the easiest and least scary in the series, while also having a deeply disturbing and engaging narrative. Or play Silent Hill 3 for the fun characters and psychedelic horror anarchy. Note that Silent Hill is not for everyone with its clunky controls, confusing camera and goofy voice acting. But it's worth trying if you're a fan of psychological horror, or if you're curios about the genre.
Silent Hill just isn't for everyone.. Not everyone can enjoy horror or just scary games, but silent hill is a horror level on its own, it's creepy I personally couldn't play it.

F-Zero GX is one of my favorite games of all time, but I think that it's not for everyone.
Great list, by the way

@@PatrickMurta I could never beat the second race on story mode, but as a local multiplayer game it was one of the best.
Best puzzle game for me is Portal 2. That game is just perfection. Incredibly well designed levels and mechanics. Hilarious voiceover work, great music. I am begging for a current gen remake of the 2 portal games! 🙏🏻
Portal 2 was pretty tough.
Honestly, screw "best puzzle game", portal 2 is just my "best game" in general lmao
The Switch is about to get Portal 1 & 2, so that might mean there’s a remaster in the works for the other consoles (as well as PC).
13:04 Metal Jesus loves Burnout 3 so much he used its title card for SSX Tricky.
Ahahhahaah i see that too !!! Burnout 3 Takedown is in everywhere......kkkkkk
of course he does its an amazing game
I love the Snowboard event in Burnout 3!
Has one of the best soundtracks too
*its
I remember being addicted to Mass Effect being unable to sleep playing it so much haha. ME2 was perfection.
I hated how ME2 took so much of the RPG element away
Absolutetly. The second ME was not only a thrilling action game. It was very emotional and I fell in love with some of the characters.
This would make an awesome recurring series. 10 MORE!
yes! with more categories. fighting game, horror game, simulation games etc.
that's a good idea, just kind of ironically keep releasing the top 10 must play games over and over with different games
Agreed with this big time. Would absolutely watch more iterations of this, even reiterations with the same categories but different games, just because!
I was about to suggest this!
Great idea!
For puzzle game, I'd put Portal 2 as my recommendation. Excellent mix of story and puzzles, and superb voice acting.
Honestly the genre ranking is so weird and wrong. Agreed tho.
yeah the voice acting really elevates the game with classic quotes. Love the "welcome....TO MY LAIR" and Wheatley trying to get to jump off of the platform surrounded by spikes at the end of the game. If you actually do he even has an alternate voice line that is hilarious.
Even tho it's relatively old now, portal 2 really holds up as an experience
Not the first one?
@@michelvoortman4725 Portal 2 is everything the first one was plus some. If Portal 2 didn't exist the first one would have been my pick.
Monkey Island, Command & Conquer and Sim City 2000 are always going to be on my list.

Halo3
Conker's Bad Fur Day

Red Dead Redemption

“Why Mass Effect 2? That seems a little weird, right?”
Everyone who’s played ME2: “Makes perfect sense.”

Epic gamer moment "I'm going to shoot this red barrel and it'll explode"
>shoots barrel
>nothing happens
SEE!! I'm not alone!! HAHAHA
Check 5:04 and 5:34. To me that's kind of the difference between a classic and a non-classic (sorry mr. Rocking Metaljesus)
Eyso it is sometimes said that a game is only as good as the amount of time it takes it to introduce a red explosive barrel next to an enemy. Half Life takes that overused concept of lazy game design and makes it the center of some brilliant puzzles. That’s a classic.
So what I know right? We still see them in current games which just wrong.
I remember reading and article about game design, and during some test games for some game (can't remember which one) the developers noticed that NONE of the test players where shooting at the barrels. Why? Because they wheren't red, but green.
You needed a "Survival Horror" category... Silent Hill, Resident Evil, etc.
Trust me. He’s got lots of videos on just that . Peep it. (One of the best categories)
ahem...Alien Isolation...
No no no, for sure resident evil 1 or 4
Silent hill 2 is a must

Burnout 3 is a gem of epic proportions because the sequels just never actually improved on it, and even removed key modes that made it great.

I’m surprised chrono trigger or ocarina of time didn’t appear on the video’s list. Same with portal 2
These aren't my top ten favorites and it doesn't really fit your one per genre rule, but these are the 10 games that I think every gamer should play
Bioshock, Mass Effect 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Souls, Final Fantasy 7, Silent Hill 2, Pokemon Firered/Leafgreen, Super Smash Bros Melee, Banjo Kazooie, Halo 2
Good list. We have a couple of cross overs.
Fire red great choice. What do u think of lets go pikachu?
Banjo Kazooie is the perfect 3D platformer. It improved the great Mario 64 in every way.
Meh
That's a good list.
My personal list:
1. Minecraft - easy to understand but open to limitless possibilities. It's also pretty much a cultural touchstone now
2. Super Mario Galaxy - incredibly unique & creative 3D platformer with a surprisingly deep story
3. Portal 2 - the portal gun is probably the most interesting mechanic ever conceived for a video game. No other game feels quite like it.
4. Tetris - same reasons you mentioned in the video. It's timeless
5. Stardew Valley - the definitive cozy simulation game. Perfect for anyone who wants a nonviolent video game that is still fun to play
6. The Last of Us - demonstrates the narrative & cinematic potential of video games better than anything else I've played
7. Overcooked - my family's go-to local multiplayer game, and most of them don't play video games. Always a blast to fire up
8. Skyrim - the base game itself is great, but the modding community is what truly makes it special. It's a game that you can bend and tweak to be whatever you want it to be
9. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - as much a piece of artwork as it is a game. Its haunting imagery and themes stick with you long after you've turned the console off
10. Hollow Knight - my favorite game of all time. Beautiful, challenging, intriguing, addicting, the crown jewel of metroidvanias
Excellent list! I definitely would put many of these games on my list as well
My list would be:
RPG: Divinity Original Sin 2. Honorable mention - Shin Megami Tensei 4.
2D Platformer - Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Honorable Mention - Hollow Knight.
FPS: Metro 2033. Honorable mention - F.E.A.R.

Yep, my biggest struggle is whether to play the original NES or the SNES remake in All Stars that I grew up on!
Also just grabbing a new game to check out and getting sucked into it. Then never going back to the game you were playing.

I couldn't agree more. The suicide mission is just incredible. And this is coming from someone who grew up in the age of NES, SNES, etc. and didn't really play any new games after 2008 or so. However, Mass Effect made me take notice and wake up, as well as the original Dragon Age.

Transport Tycoon is a MUST HAVE in the simgames genre! And you can have it for free with Open TTD.
@@stealthiscool Those games are a lot of fun, but for me it would be Theme Hospital and it's spiritual successor Two Point Hospital.
I'm more of a StarCraft guy if we're talking about 90's PC games
Man, I haven’t seen one of your vids in years since I used to watch with my dad as a kid! So glad this vid popped up on my feed just looking around youtube.
Seems I have a great taste in games because I nearly guessed a few of these. Great vid, love ya MetalJesus!
Welcome back!
I would say my favorite 2D platformer would have to be Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I know its an RPG but it also fits into the 2D platformer genre. Would fit great in either, regardless, it's still a must play.
Best game of all time in my eyes. First thing I thought of when I saw the title of this video.
@@dovie_corp2022 They are underrated as well. Aria of Sorrow was fantastic.
@@shawnpatterson2230 I enjoyed Aria but I found myself even more drawn into Dawn of sorrow. All those games are really well done though. Order of Ecclesia is great too....just harder than the other ones
They are excellent but I would say metroid games slightly better.
You forgot Minecraft, that’s it’s own magical category , that’s what got me into gaming and that’s what keeps me there. If you haven’t played the 2nd best selling game of all time your missing out
@alan caprock You mean shudder?
Also, I support you GalacticGames, I also think Minecraft deserves a spot in the spotlight, even if it may not be in my top ten games, I can see why it makes other people's top lists.
@alan caprock
You catch on quick, that was precisely my intention, but just like I knew you meant “shudder”, you already knew my intentions as well.
It's a best selling game everyone and their moms know of that game. Seems pointless to include it
Right on the money, METAL JESUS!
Footage for SSX Tricky has the game name for burnout 3 takedown shown at he start when it was playing.
little sad he didnt add flight games... would have loved what his opinion would be like Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
@@TheEvastarProject I'm pretty certain he's raved about that game in the past. Check his old Xbox videos.
The drifting in hotshot racing is exactly what I've been looking for in an arcade racer! TY MJ for mentioning this!
You forgot 1 genre: point & click like Nancy Drew series
And if I can add:
Resident Evil series for Survival Horror
Fire Emblem series for Tactics
Harvest Moon, The Sims, Animal Crossing for Simulation
Last but not least Downhill Domination for Bike Racing
likely couldnt read the tiny text on FE 3H
How about fighting like Street fighter 2 turbo
Tekken...Mortal kombat
It wasn't about covering every single genre. It was about 10 games that he thought everyone should play. He just happened to separate them by genre.
My honorable mentions (all genres and all consoles):
Final Fantasy 12, GTA San Andreas, The Last Of Us, Warcraft 3, Unreal Tournament, Crash Team Racing, Super Mario 64, Nier Automata, Gran Turismo 4, Goldeneye 64, Pokemon Platinum, Crash Bash, Overwatch, Need For Speed Prostreet, Digimon Rumble Arena, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Shadow of Colossus, Tekken 6, Battlefield 1, Guitar Hero 3
Dirt (1&2), F1 championchip, and bfme (1&2)
You are really old school with Mario 3, HalfLife 2, Burnout 3, SSX 3. All of the game you mentioned are excelent.
Age of Empires is also a really good Strategy game.
i still play that to this day since it came out 20 years ago lol. I was in high school when the original released.
Age of Empires II made me not sleep during the week so I could play when everyone was sleeping
My favorite! I still play it all the time.
original AoE 2 and Starcraft both right at the top of strategy list
Aoe2 is bigger then ever.
But for my money, pvp aside, age of mythology is the most fun to play by yourself.
Burnout 3 has aged well, looks decent,Controls great, rocking soundtrack and still one of the best arcade racing games ever.
But isn't as good as 2... (in my humble opinion!)
@@dcashley303 2 is great but that takedown feature is what made me love 3 and revenge more .
Best game soundtrack ever.
Here's a few of my picks:
Rise of Nations
Halo 3
Ratchet & Clank
Portal 2
Great list, although IMO R&C2 would have been a better pick because of the NG+, better weapons, some more open levels, etc.
Games I recommend
Action adventure: Zelda Ocarina Of Time
RPG: Chrono Trigger
First Person Shooter: Half-life
Puzzle: Portal 1,2
2D platform: Donkey Kong Country
I would say the cream of the crop in terms of 2d platform games for me is donkey Kong country 2 🙂
Sorry for second comment. When the SSX footage starts it is labeled as burnout 3.
Yeah, that was me copying and pasting the lower third text and forgetting to change it like an idiot. DOH
George Lucas your footage?
@@MetalJesusRocks mistakes happen! Can't believe you responded to me, highlight of this year for sure!
Point and click adventure game: The Secret of Monkey Island!
life is strange too
Day of the Tentacle
The Longest Journey
Definitely Monkey Island. I also loved the Broken Sword series.
Monkey Island 2. Both amazing!
Dude started talking and said 1: Mass Effect 2 .....🤝
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins on PS1. Amazing stealth gameplay and the best, most atmospheric music in a video game ever.
Omg fucking yes, it also had a map editor where you could create your own missions that alone was game changing !
100%
This game is a legend
Still waiting for a new Tenchu.....
@@BigBossHayabusa I understand Ghost of Tsushima was originally a Tenshu reboot.
Wow, this is an excellent video. This is an EXCELLENT list. I agree that if someone is trying to decide which game to play. One could enjoy most of these games right off the bat.
He didn't include any fighting games, the list is flawed
For me The best 3d platformer would be Super Mario 64. Best strategy would be StarCraft.
One of the best story driven games: Grim Fandango
I agree with SSX Tricky as well.
My list:
- Super Mario World
- DOOM 1993
- Space Invaders
- Tetris
- Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Sonic 2
- Super Mario 64
- Pac-Man
- Minecraft
My list was more historic, maybe not the very best games ever released, but some of the most important games for the industry.
MaddieMJD YES! YES! THATS. RIGHT! Sorry I like Mario 64 and Breath of the wild too much
While i don't agree that minecraft and breath of the wild are important for industry, the others i agree completely... many of them defined some eras.
I'm not the biggest fan of wearing merch but Led Zelda cracked me up
That shirt is sooo Metal Jesus
What about god of war chains of Olympus I’ve beaten it twice already
Great choices. Missing VR category might be HL Alyx and mention Lone Echo. Other than that, kudos and try to make this in 1 year to see what would change.
klonoa, tony hawk american wasteland, i-ninja, digimon world, medabots metabee version, digimon cyber sleuth hackers memory, naruto ultimate ninja 3, soul calibur 3, gta san andreas, midnight club 3, atelier iris 3, monster rancher 2, yugioh tag force 5, are my fav games of all time.
This is recommended games to newcomers, not your favorites
Great choices, MJ! I would actually love to see this series revisited from time to time! Like, “Ten More Must-Play Games” or whatever.
Anyway, great video and I’ll have to check a few of these out that I never got around to!
ME2 was a huge part of my teen years! Such an amazing game. Stellar cast, great gameplay, good graphics, story is spectacular!
RPG: Fallout New Vegas
Platformer: My Friend Pedro
FPS: Titanfall 2
Puzzle: Tetris
Open World: RDR2
Racing: Mariokart Wii
Sports: Skate 3
3rd Person Action Adventure: Assassin's Creed 2
Strategy: Kenshi
Honestly love this list. Agree with many of them!
Zeus: Master of Olympus. Rarely brought up, one of the most overlooked masterpieces in real time strategy city building.
Loved how the gods in that game were a mix of helpful and antagonistic.
I will never, ever buy a Lit mobile solar wireless battery pack.
Lol, I see that commercial all time now.
But you could use it to look at you Dr Squach balls soap in the dark!! 😋
auntie panda - Sad, dry balls.
It’s LEGIT a good product
Soooo🤷♂️
Heavy rain was such an amazing experience for me definitely one of my top games
Strategy game: Heroes III of might and magic. Damn that's a good game
Still playing it today, love that game.
I've been playing it since I was a kid, I'm 22 and the last time I played it was a few days ago. It's actually insane how fun it is. No game has ever captivated me the same way besides like, pokemon
Completely agree on this one. Origins is far and away my favorite RPG, American or JRPG.
Dude I told the paunchy elves that steal my dwarf bride before I can marry her that they can do whatever they want if they pay me, even they were surprised. Like. That is just an insane level of character freedom.
And your character's actions effect every other game in the series as well. One of my all time favorite series for rpg
@@masonking2188 Don't forget how you can become Alistair's best friend, then betray him at the Landsmeet to get him executed and have yourself become the King of Ferelden. Agreed, it's bonkers how many choices the game gives you.
When you start a list with Mass Effect 2, you’ve earned my respect.
Mine was gone at that point. Different strokes I guess.
Cannot even imagine how difficult it must have been to compile this list. Sooooooooo many games, so many consoles, genres, incredible task.
Point and click games never get any love these days. Monkey Island gets my attention any time!... Halo gets a mention as well for revolutionising and breeding new life into the FPS genre
Monkey Island. Phantasmagoria. Toonstruck. Grim fandango. Kings quest. Sam max. Leisure suit larry. Just to name a few
@@erwinekkel9676 Am I the only person that thinks Day of the Tentacle is better that Monkey island?
@@GarryGri it actually is. It has better puzzles and jokes. But they are both masterpieces.
As a PC gamer Halo just seemed super generic and derivative. Gamepad controls also suck for fps, I feel sorry for console peeps
@@blahuhm6782 I agree, never particular interested me, we had far better FPS years before it. I'd be interested to play it now to see if I missed something though..
19:05 “melted hours away”.. that’s a sign of a good game...
thats minecraft for me.
First person shooter everyone should play??? Timesplitters 3. Funny, innovated, can play against bots, level challenges, 100+ characters to unlock, interesting storyline, just perfection
Timesplitters 2 is also amazing (as long as you un-invert the controls in the options)
Freakin' Scary game this
Silent Hill just isn't for everyone..
Not everyone can enjoy horror or just scary games, but silent hill is a horror level on its own, it's creepy
I personally couldn't play it.
