My favourite console of all time! It would be awesome to have games like Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Power Stone, Metropolis Street Racer etc on there. I would buy that in a heartbeat!
There are very good mods for the Dreamcast now, like the GDEMU and the DCHDMI. I think Sega should build a Dreamcast on a chip, and create a Dreamcast mini with all of these mods. I would buy one or even 2. With a good selection of Dreamcast games.... it should sell like pancakes!
Its sad that the dream cast didn't make it big. It was one of my favorite. I remember right before launching the online side of dreamcast they deciceded to cease production of games, and was pretty much the end of it.
I think the main reason why we're not getting an N64 mini is because so many of the classics, Rare most notably, were third-party. And even worse, Rare's owned by Microsoft, and Microsoft's already released Rare Replay for the XOne. (To be fair though, Rare Replay was pretty well done.) So yeah, an N64 mini with only DK64 from the main Rare collection would be really lame.
GoldenEye is practically impossible. The game partially belongs to Rare, who belongs to Microsoft, but they don't have the James Bond license anymore. Besides, I never understood what made it so popular. PCs had much better first person shooters at the time, and the game hasn't aged well at all.

I forgot all about the Turbo Graphix 16. I remember as a kid my neighbors uncle brought one over when he came to visit, and it blew our minds. I thought the games on those thinner cards was the coolest thing. I've got the SNES and Sega mini's and love them. Didn't know they came out with wireless controllers, so thank you very much for that tid-bit!
@@masterquake7 Please stop spreading misinformation. They can obviously rip the ISO and run it. Emulation has been able to run ISOs for well over a year.
Firstly, love your videos! Keep it up! Minor addition regarding the C64 Mini: Yes, the keyboard is non functional (and so small making it a functioning keyboard wouldn't really... function) and yes, the on screen keyboard works, but is a pain in the butt, but I didn't hear you mention that you can just plug in any USB Keyboard. Yes, there are only two usb ports and using a separate keyboard and two controllers requires a USB splitter, but it is an option! I'm so glad they increased the number of usb ports on the C64! Keep being awesome!
9:43 - "I just don't happen to have one." Actually, you do. You checked them out in your March 1st 2019 video. They call it "8-button" since the USB version adds a couple buttons for use with PC, Nintendo Switch, etc. That's the one Sega and RetroBit are selling for the Genesis Mini.
I have the Mega Drive mini, it's very nice and what I like is that they have regular USB controller inputs. Using Project Lunar I clocked it at 1.3 Ghz (for some reason they clocked it down to 1Ghz) and have my own selection of added games. To me the big plus of the SNES version is that it comes with a 2 Ghz processor which should have better emulation performance options. I do think you can use Hackchi on it to emulate other game consoles and add games, but in order to use other controllers as well as a thumb drive you need to use an OTG hub. Of course, the SNES controllers come with 6 buttons so for most emulations they would suffice as well.
all of these are emulation. Plus, even if they were just straight ports, a lot of the really good Saturn games like Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Shining Force 3 no longer have their source code available.
Isnt it like he's living the life though, getting revenue from YT, playing the games we all love? Who cares if its 4am if I were him is what i'm saying.
I'd love to see a Master System Mini, get some interest going in that system again. Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd, Shinobi... and if they could throw in the foreign Sonic games (with Sonic being huge), plus some more foreign games, that'd be dope. The system is/was big in Brazil for the longest time, so yeah, some of those would be great.
@@MetalJesusRocks There is one more Mini system (sort of). As you probably know AtGames has done multiple rounds of the Atari Flashback with Atari 2600 games. What you may not know however is that with the latest round of Flashbacks to come out in 2019 (the Atari Flashback X and the Atari Flashback X Deluxe) AtGames tried to capitalize on the "Mini Console" craze. The Atari Flashback X looks like an actual replica mini Atari 2600 (seen in this wiki picture: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_Flashback_series#/media/File:Atari_Flashback_X_15.jpg ).
A Dreamcast Mini is an absolute must!!! I’d also like to see Saturn & 32x mashed up together as a single release Classic. I think this compilation release works for just about every classic system, (except maybe Jaguar as it only has so many games).
I’ve told my eldest son about my first console , the atari , A LOT over the years. So much that he bought the Atari classics mini console , and is currently playing the life out of it.
Oh man the Dream Cast I still have mine somewhere, along with my Atri, Sega Genesis, Game gear , GameBoy Color , Game boy Advantage, PS1 & 2 , OG Xbox ...... there all in boxes in storage lol to someday to uncover & one hell of a time down memory lane when found hahahaha
A fairly sizable hit in Europe as Ninty locked Sega out of the US market but then US/EU retail was somewhat different back then and the EEC nee EU would not have allowed Nintendo's to develop the monopoly in Europe that it had in the US.
I must say, the preloaded game selection has some great choices, but this console had such a huge library of excellent games, that it left more than a little to be desired. My buddy sold me his hacked mini (I'm a bigger retro gamer) w/which I must say, he did one helluva job choosing tons of great titles, including many of the obvious omissions. I've now beaten or completed a total of 51 games across across every known genre, over the last 3+yrs, & I will likely be playing for the better part of the next decade, cuz there's a whole lot more to go...So much fun. I'm currently playing Lost Vikings 2, Axelay, & Legend of the Mystical Ninja.
I would love to see a Gameboy Classic. It wouldn't be mini, it'd be an exact replica but with a modern USB-chargeable battery, color backlit screen (but with options to play in black&white or classic green) and support for GB and GBC games. We're getting something similar with the new Game & Watch, which looks pretty great (and hackable). A DOS mini would also be cool--I wonder who would make it?
right, im salty oculus stepped backwards to LCD 80Hz from OLED 90Hz, just because it's cheaper. as the PSVita too..the screen is getting all our focus, make it the best
@@kaizen5415 Sadly, it isn't ALL of us, it's not very many at all. These companies do shed loads of focus groups and marketing research and the sad reality is many don't give a fuck if it means it's ten quid cheaper or something. Now, if they had two options that might be nice, but still probably a wish too far.
the genesis official six buttons was the real deal for me, it looked great, felt great and that "velvet" directional was best way to NOT destroy your thumbs doing hadoukens and shoryukens, i'm aware of today's upscaled complexity of games that demands much more from controllers but that one still the top controller of all times to me.
Velvet D-pad? I don't remember it being made of velvet. Oh wait, I see what ya meant. It would be the same thing if you called it " That butter smooth" D-pad" But yeah, because it was a circle disc with a raised "Cross" pattern that made fighting games from Street Fighter to MK1-3 so much easier to pull off and didn't put your thumbs through hell. Too bad KI was never released for the Gen/Megadrive. Tho I had some asshat try to tell me the game would never play properly even on the 6 button controller because it doesn't have the same number of buttons as the SNES because of the missing "the left/right bumpers" He still couldn't wrap his head around that they both have 6 buttons total and HE even went to far as to post images of both controllers to show that the SNES has more buttons to make his point... That was the day I began losing faith in humanity, one comment at a time, and this was 1999.
yeah, i loved the SNES i had but whenever i played SF on it i'd wonder "why isn't this D-pad 8 directions and smooth like the one on the Genesis? or even the Master System?" i mean, i don't think they could predict SFII's runaway success, but it's still annoying to do a QCF on a cross D-pad, let alone a Shoryuken motion (and God forbid if you try the Pretzel in the Fatal Fury games). i'd get much less blisters on my left thumb if they put out a new controller to address the gameplay like Sega did with the six-button controller.
The market for that has to be tiny. I mean it would be super easy to make but I feel like anyone who would want that already has a solution laying around.
I remember seeing the TG16 at Child's world as a kid and it costed A LOT *took awhile to save up for it*. In high school I went to a Bomberman competition event in Minnesota and won the TG DUO. Was one of best days in my life. :D
You forgot to mention the English translation of Monster Wold IV and the two bonus games (Tetris, and Darius) on the Sega Genesis Mini. (Edit: And the official release of Mega Man The Wily Wars.)
Yup, personally i think it's the best mini console, even with the sound issues. Overall it has a really big and varied collection of games with a lot of detail in presentation. Maybe the SNES mini has even bigger classics but it needed like 10 more third party games i think.
Got to say, for me the top 2 would have to be the SNES mini and the Sega Megadrive / Genesis mini with the later being #1. Bigger games library and an excellent selection of games, plus the detail in the actual console is amazingly accurate.
I'd like to see a Sega Dreamcast Mini and Nintendo 64 Classic Edition. It would be cool to see a DOS classic, Gameboy Classic Edition, Gameboy Color Classic Edition and Sega Game Gear Mini
Sony not including the Dual Shock, and deciding to include PAL versions of games in the North American release was a huge mistake. That said, I would love to see a Sega Master System mini. Arguably the most underrated great console of all time
I loved the keys on the commodore keyboard. So satisfying to press for some reason. At least when I was a kid. It's been a couple decades. Its weird that I remember that actually. Lol.
Couldn't agree more. When I remember how I hammered the keyboard sometimes when i rage quit games (because I was a young jerk who didn't know better) in the 80s I wonder how a modern keyboard would react to this :-).... Good times thinking back. I just realize I am an old fart. But some of my best gaming memories are related to the C64. Amazing, somehow, considering the great games being released today. Graphics really isn't everything.
My favorite is sega Genesis with tower accessories. Its too bad they didn't have LEDs lights in sega cd and add on sega cd and 32x games but its ok i modded mine to include that. Dreamcast mini, Saturn mini, n64 mini i would buy but dreamcast should include online games and app store and support original controller.
@@ladyvavashund46 sounds like you need to do console maintenance once in a while. Thermal paste has a shelf life. Open them up, clean the dust out. Reapply new thermal paste like once every 5 years. You can't treat new consoles like the old ones, they produce alot of heat and require cooling and thermal paste dries out. You run em hard with dried out these paste you cook them to death.
@@billy-waynejeffcoat4828 Thank you for you advice but I am very aware. My point is you will never need to do maintenance on the minis becouse they will never overheat despite being new hardware.
I really loved the min PlayStation simply because it was so easy to fix so one could play almost any rom on it. It truly mimicked the org ps1 really well which was abysmally easy to fix so you could play games from all regions and even copied discs haha.
The Wii is a great option if you like Wii games and Gamecube games it really saves a bit of space, much like the PS2 saves the space of both it and the PSX. Gamecube also has much cheaper component and HDMI adapters making it easier and cheaper to hook up to modern TVs than the original gamecube.
"..games people were dying to play!" - shows Dr. Mario lol (don't get me wrong, I like it and it's my dad's favorite videogame of all time, the timing of the video was awkward lol)
Love this. As an 80’s/90’s gamer this brings back some of the best memories!! I had, and should’ve kept my sega master system and Genesis… so it’s so great to at least see the Sega Genesis…loved that console! 😝 Also, would like to see ps2, where I left off… so many great games!! I’m exited to check out the super nes mini, if still available.
MS DOS mini for sure! I grew up with an NES and then SNES, but some of my favorite memories of gaming as a kid were the dos games I used to download from local dialup BBSes.
Actually with the ease of modding and how good the programs are now the PS classic it is a great buy for the low price it is now. They just ported jedi knight academy to it I'm excited what the community has in store for it
I have a theory, Sony was toying with the idea and it got leaked forcing it to go to market. Unlike Sega or Nintendo, Sony just doesn't their library outright meaning they could never include the games people want and still keep it affordable. Never should have been released
The SNES mini is incredible because you can easily hack it and include many more games (the included memory fits all NES/Master System and a decently large selection of Genesis + SNES games). And these other games and systems operate with the same intuitive menu system and save game functionality etc, with the additional feature of going out into the menu using the controller instead of having to press reset. It's just a perfect little thing.
Personally I think that the Mega Drive/Genesis Mini just had the best line up of games, plus multi language variants of those games. It has the most games in any one language of any mini console. It came with two exclusive games one of which was completely new (Darius). It also has wireless 6 button controllers that you can buy too. MJR didn't mention any of that. But this list is based on personal preference and personal history with the original machines so it's to be expected. My top three out of the box at the moment are: 1: Mega Drive Mini 2: Core Grafx Mini 3: Snes Classic
Well if you dont mind tinkering the MiSTer device has an absolutely hyper accurate NEOGEO core. Furrtek went through and decapped (acid bathed) all the NEOGEO chips, and scanned them with a microscope, and wrote down all the schematics (traced everything) so he can make replacement chips for the NEOGEO. And the schematic languages used to make new chips is the same as is used in an FPGA device like MiSTer, so he released a MiSTer core which is a total beast. When you open the NEOGEO core in the MiSTer menu all the schematics are sent to the FPGA and mere milliseconds later the FPGA configures it self like a transformer into all the chips in the real NEOGEO. All the chips are working in parallel, not like in software emulation where the CPU does one thing at the time. So while software emulators are plagued with things like audio delay/lag, an FPGA core couldn't even make audio delay like that unless you would make a complicated audio buffer which would be ridiculous and would need to be intentional and lots of work. While some cores (like GBA and future PS1) on MiSTer could be considered (hardware accelerated) emulation, the NEOGEO core is so close to the real deal that you could say that the variants of NEOGEO has more difference between them in real hardware than the difference over to MiSTer. In addition it is of course HDMI output, and you can also do VGA with a cheap 12 dollar adapter, and there is no framebuffer, its just signals sent through the adapter like the console would to a CRT. And since MiSTer now has MegaCD for Genesis, everyone is expecting PCEngine CD and NEOGEO CD to show up any time this year. The Picture Processing Unit and another chip of PCEngine was also recently decapped by Furrtek, and he is in the progress of transcribing it to a hardware description language (schematic). So thats comming as well, even though the PCEngine core is excellent, we always want more authenticity.
I think the gdmu’s are the way to go for Dreamcast as you get the benefit of actual hardware; with no moving parts and easy to upgrade psu, keeping an old Dreamcast functional is easier than ever. I held onto 3 I’ll try and mod eventually but I got all my arcade sticks and accessories I’d hate to part with (lightguns too!).
@@Ziggurat1 Yea of course the FPGA is not just another level, it's like a whole different league to me - not to mention the importance these devs do for preserving a piece of history by accurately reproducing them in that fpga. However I would imagine that these official mini emulators are for the casual plug&play audience, or collectors of official hardware iterations (regardless of their accuracy, utility/peripheral usability and overall value or lack thereof depending on brand and effort put in). I would imagine that they also exist for today's parents to show their kids what kind of games they used to play back in the day, so they buy them this mini-toy edition for an evening of fun or an occasional play session. Personally I'm not interested in these mini emulators at all, but this video brought a couple of interesting points where they do offer at least some value, e.g.: gamepads, official plastic case to house something better and tweakable maybe, a toy to lend to kids or friends instead of the real deal, something cheap to play during your stay at the cottage, etc.

Would love to see a Sega Dreamcast mini, Sega Saturn Mini and a Sega CD mini in that order. It would be cool if Sega teamed up with some of the developers to release the latest Dreamcast games like Sturmwind which was an amazing game.
I have all of them except for the C64 mini. I just recently acquired the TurboGrafx 16 mini, and omg, I am in love with it. The interface, the menu music, the controller, the emulation is awesome.
I have 4 of them, the nes, neogeo, genesis and the TG16. All of them worth it in my opinion for around 100 bucks. Only reason I dont have the SNES one is because everyone's trying to resell them for like 150 bucks.
Loved seeing some of those Turbo Graphics 16 games. My cousin had one, some of those games really brought back some nostalgia. I never met anyone else as a kid who had even heard of that console.
If it wasn't for Rondo of Blood I would have never known it existed. If America would have gotten that game the console would have been a solid competitor here
I had one. Absolutely loved it. It really had a lot of great, underappreciated games. The TV Sports titles were some of the best lineup of sports games for it's time. I even had the CD attachment which admittedly was a terrible investment. I'm not sure that thing even had ten games ever made for it.
I looked everywhere for the US version of the Sega "tower of power". I was deeply saddened to find Sega only produced a small number for youtube content creators. If you want to buy one, it's Japanese variant only. =(
@@katiepersons6575 The Japan Megadrive release also got 6 button controllers included! Shame that only SF2 uses them and it's missing a bunch of classic action games that are included in the US and EU versions :( The Tower of Power was also about $40, putting the price of the whole setup up quite a bit.
At least, in the years since this video, we did get an Amiga mini (the A500 mini) and it’s pretty great. My personal favorites are the Turbografx mini and the A500 mini.

I've always wanted a SNES classic, yet I went for the NES classic before, and I have no regrets! My stepdaughter and I have great Tecmo bowl matches sometimes, and I have had great times playing most of the games in it.
Hmm, that’s quite strange. Different numbers? Mine, for instance, has over 100 and includes all the NES Classic games in a folder called “NES Classic Edition.” Weird... Maybe I’ll write Nintendo a letter. On second thought, NAHH
I'd love to see an MS-DOS mini. I played so many shareware games growing up; plus, the possibility of having LucasArts, Sierra, Origin, Redwood Studio classic games on a "console" would be amazing. Once modded it shares the #1 spot. The modded snes classic needs extra work for the extra memory, the ps one classic loses a controller slot, extra work to fix the issue. They both sucks at DS and 64 though. The main reason is kids. They play with minis without getting lost in menus and effing up your setup/configs unlike a Pi.

Working VMUs and online capability would be a must for a Dreamcast mini. They could bring back seasonal DLC. Damn, I want it lol.
9:43 - "I just don't happen to have one."
Actually, you do. You checked them out in your March 1st 2019 video. They call it "8-button" since the USB version adds a couple buttons for use with PC, Nintendo Switch, etc. That's the one Sega and RetroBit are selling for the Genesis Mini.
I noticed that too.
I also want a Dreamcast Mini, the console on it's own is beautiful.
Also a Saturn, as the emulation for Saturn is imperfect
hard to do because of machine power would be much better than these, like a odroid maybe still would be very power hungry
all of these are emulation. Plus, even if they were just straight ports, a lot of the really good Saturn games like Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Shining Force 3 no longer have their source code available.
Giordan Diodato how did they lose the source code? Fire in the vault?

It wouldn't be mini, it'd be an exact replica but with a modern USB-chargeable battery, color backlit screen (but with options to play in black&white or classic green) and support for GB and GBC games. the genesis official six buttons was the real deal for me, it looked great, felt great and that "velvet" directional was best way to NOT destroy your thumbs doing hadoukens and shoryukens, i'm aware of today's upscaled complexity of games that demands much more from controllers but that one still the top controller of all times to me.
Velvet D-pad? I don't remember it being made of velvet. Oh wait, I see what ya meant. It would be the same thing if you called it " That butter smooth" D-pad"
But yeah, because it was a circle disc with a raised "Cross" pattern that made fighting games from Street Fighter to MK1-3 so much easier to pull off and didn't put your thumbs through hell.
There is an actual "PC Classic" console in the works. I haven't received any update emails in awhile but I don't think it's been canceled yet
Rumble controllers on TG16 and Genesis would be cool since they dont exist for the real consoles
Maybe the SNES mini has even bigger classics but it needed like 10 more third party games i think.
i wish MMWW didnt have that PAL slowdown, it hurts the game tbh, but everything else is great, SEGA was represented well in the Mini.
Got to say, for me the top 2 would have to be the SNES mini and the Sega Megadrive / Genesis mini with the later being #1. Bigger games library and an excellent selection of games, plus the detail in the actual console is amazingly accurate.

It's just a perfect little thing.

How?
SEGA Mega drive and SNES classic mini are two of my favourites due to exclusive games
Too bad the Sega didnt have a Cd game or 32X
Personally I think that the Mega Drive/Genesis Mini just had the best line up of games, plus multi language variants of those games. It has the most games in any one language of any mini console. It came with two exclusive games one of which was completely new (Darius). It also has wireless 6 button controllers that you can buy too. MJR didn't mention any of that. But this list is based on personal preference and personal history with the original machines so it's to be expected.
My top three out of the box at the moment are:
1: Mega Drive Mini
2: Core Grafx Mini
3: Snes Classic
Mega drive mini seems ways better
Personally, I adore the SNES mini, and would love to see a proper Neo*Geo mini

They both sucks at DS and 64 though. The main reason is kids. They play with minis without getting lost in menus and effing up your setup/configs unlike a Pi.
@@jean-philippetessier6354 you just buy a $3 otg cable from Amazon to solve that problem. It lets you use the rear USB spot, which supports power and data
I would jump on a mini "console" that just featured all of the classic Sierra adventure games.
Yes
Yes
Did you know MJR used to work at Sierra? He never mentions it.
@@replicamaize1083 yeah there’s a bunch of cool videos on it.I watched like three one day lol
IBM PC JR Mini
But if you want a Sierra adventure game collection right now, I recommend you Roberta William's Anthology. Old games with emulators for modern PC (at least for WinXP). Has Mystery House, most of the King's Quest series, and a bunch of others.
Sad not to see the @Games Atari Flashback 9 not making this list. I love it , the joysticks stay true to the original and it has an SD Card slot to load your own games and the community behind at Atari Age is second to none. my only complaint is the paddle controllers but beside that having it preloaded with over a 100 games and many great Activision Games and then able to load over 1000 games, It it s odd there is no mention.
i was literally 10 seconds ago at your channel seeing: "new vids every Tuesday and friday", and wondered how late you would upload, and literally 20 sec later I see your vid 😂
Literally.
@Ewolf5150 I know, an amazing plot
I’m personally hoping for an Amiga mini and a PS2 mini.
They have a ps2 mini i have one
@@JasonMyers1212 Where can I purchase one?
@@lilrice1149 ps2 slim ...
I would love to see Dreamcast do a mini with Blue Stinger and some of the racing games on there like the Star Wars pod racers and Speed Demons game, Power Stones
probably no Star Wars
On the way!!
Particularly with the Sega mini, was really hoping to have ability to play actual cartridges on it. Maybe in the future.
Sega Dreamcast Mini is what I'm waiting for
Yes 100%
N64 mini is what I need
Purely for Space Channel 5. That's secretly everybody's favourite game... right? :D
Would love to see a Panasonic 3DO mini. That would be awesome. Great vid, keep up the good work.
you jest.
Sega genesis mini is #1 for me. It looks great, has an awesome selection of games, and you can play the Japanese versions by just switching the language.
Good choice!
Jon GreenSKI I have to agree. We been doing some testing over on my channel and we love that mini console the best
I looked into it after this video but was disappointed sonic 3 & 4 aren't included.
Plus it was only like 40 bucks at best buy. Can’t beat that price point lol
Same here
Love your channel man, thank you for making a video including all the mini classics. It makes it easier to choose which one to buy. Thank you MetalJesusRocks
The C64 was always suppose be able to run other games/programs from USB, they just hadn't the software ready at release, but they said it would even before they released.
I only own the NES classic edition and I love it!!!
I only own the NES and SNES
I have the NES and SNES mini’s and am hoping to get the Genesis and PlayStation ones eventually. Great video like always!
Get The Sega Genesis mini, it blows the other mini's out of the water!!
Which one is a better value? The turbogratix or the pc engine? Or are they both the same?
The big question remains: Will we ever get a Sega Master System mini?? I would love to get me one of those!
What games stick out in that system?
@@ninjae4976 do you live in Europe?
After Burner and Monopoly are the only ones that i remember playing on the Master System
@@ninjae4976 Kenseiden
@@ninjae4976 have you ever hears of sonic the hedgehog?
I want a sega saturn mini, don't know if we'll ever see it though.
I have the PS, Sega genesis, SNES and NES Classics. I love them all equally.
NES has a lag in Mario. I can’t play it. My muscle memory kicks in from the original and it is not the same.
@@sethralavode9012 it was beatable for me. Then again my consoles are all modded, I may have played the ported version.
I love my PSX classic because I also have the TrueBlue Mini packs that add games through a USB drive. Such a great addition for like 20 dollars on ebay.
You can do this for free. Project Eris
