I have very fond memories of Metal Gear Solid. I remember my dad was stationed in Korea at the time, but before he left he warned my brother and I that we weren't going to have our playstation for awhile. The reason being was because he went to get it modded there because it was cheaper to do it there than it was here in the states back in the late 90s. My dad finished his job in Korea and when he came back he came with a stack of CD-Rs and cases along with them. One of them was Metal Gear Solid. My brother and I were blown away, and then we stayed over at our cousins house to show him the game and even he was like "whoa this is amazing!" Good times~

I may have mentioned before that I came into the PSone era very late - 2001. My exposure to the console (and the games surrounding it) was very limited but when I saw the opening cinematic for FF8 (via a bonus disc for FF7) I knew I had to play it. It took me 3 years to rinse the game inside and out and it still stands as my favourite Playstation 1 game to this day.
I have so many memories. My brother and my friends and I playing games on this console. The Resident Evil original series. Metal Gear. Crash Spyro. Tomba, NHL 98. Amazing console.
I picked up a used, mint condition PS1 model 9001 the other week, and I must say, the system is generating so much nostalgia...it has its own gravitational force that keeps pulling me back.
People should never have whined about what games were on it because they should have realized that the modding community would have all the PS1 games on it with extras. I guess I cannot complain because I picked up my classic from Best Buy Canada for $10 brand new instead of the launch price in Canada of $130.
Wish they would release a PSOne Mini with a different line up of games, and actually good emulation. Though I agree with the previous poster that the lineup doesn't matter much, as the best thing to do with these mini consoles is to hack them to add all the games you want.
The original PlayStation is my favorite video game console of all time. And I've been waiting for you to make a top 10 PlayStation video for a long time.
Damn, I love the PlayStation. Own close to 200 games, with so many legendary games. Squaresoft, Capcom, and Konami were at their highest during the late 90’s. Here are mine: - Final Fantasy Tactics - Resident Evil 2 - Metal Gear Solid - Final Fantasy VII - Xenogears - Vagrant Story - Silent Hill - Suikoden II - Chrono Cross - Parasite Eve Honorable Mentions - Intelligent Qube - Einhänder - The Legend of Dragoon - Legend of Mana - Suikoden - Arc the Lad Collection - Final Fantasy VIII - Parasite Eve II - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
This is a great list. The fact that my top 10 includes only two of your picks is a a testament to the crazy good overall catalogue of the playstation. Tomb Raider 2 Die Hard Ape Escape Spyro: Enter the Dragon Tekken 2 Silent Hill Metal Gear Solid Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped
Seeing Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve, and Final Fantasy Tactics on this list made me so happy. Your top 10 is nearly identical to mine. I really loved Saga Frontier and my favorite survival horror of all time is Clock Tower.
Hey Johnny, I really loved this video!! The PS1 era is one of the best eras of gaming and you did it justice! In particular, I found your descriptions of the music in the games to be most intriguing. I personally find that music is one of the most essential aspects of high quality gaming experiences. I can tell that you may have a similar outlook since you often mention game soundtracks in your videos. In saying this.. I have a really cool idea for a video! If possible, I think it would be really cool if you made a video speaking about your favorite game soundtracks and why (i.e., ambience, atmospheric, instrumentals, etc..) . I've always thought that you would have an interesting take on a topic like this. Anyways, thank you so much for your videos! They always add a smile to my day :)
FF Tactics has some of the best plot, characters, setting, and storyline in all of gaming but I think that's overshadowed by the fact that it's a tactical strategy game which is outside the norm for a Final Fantasy. It's a shame we were never given more games in the world of Ivalice with direct links to the War of the Lions / Ramza and Delita era.
Dude I've been watching a few of your videos here and there but never subscribed until I saw this video. You absolutely crushed it!!! The choices you made blew me away. Had Sony released the playstation mini with these games on it it would have sold like fire!!!
Soulblade Wipeout 2097 Tekken 3 FF VII V-rally Gran Turismo Resident Evil ...loved all of these and so many others. Magical times. Soulblade was really tight fighter that needs more love. It was a groundbreaking game. Wipeout 2097 was pure adrenaline with its top playability, gfx and awesome music.
The PS1 era is something so special and legendary, just classic after classic, it made me a die hard fan of RPG's and fighters. I'm still playing the PS1 trilogy of Final Fantasy to this day.

Probably my second favorite on the console.. I'm a whore for Tony Hawk 2
If you don’t include RE2 and FF7 then yes
@@Paganichi yes
I need that RR type 4 shirt. Also loved the game
Xenogears was and still is the love of my life. What an amazing game
I picked up a used, mint condition PS1 model 9001 the other week, and I must say, the system is generating so much nostalgia...it has its own gravitational force that keeps pulling me back.
Great era. Wish Sony hadn't muffed the PS Classic so badly.
People should never have whined about what games were on it because they should have realized that the modding community would have all the PS1 games on it with extras. I guess I cannot complain because I picked up my classic from Best Buy Canada for $10 brand new instead of the launch price in Canada of $130.
The best era, we came from the 16bit/8 bit era of greatness and before the last era prior to online gaming taking off, long live the couch co-OP wars
It's an open source emulator, its meant for you to add roms.
Wish they would release a PSOne Mini with a different line up of games, and actually good emulation. Though I agree with the previous poster that the lineup doesn't matter much, as the best thing to do with these mini consoles is to hack them to add all the games you want.
Once flashed this is the best mini console out there!
Here are mine:
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Resident Evil 2
- Metal Gear Solid
- Final Fantasy VII
- Xenogears
- Vagrant Story
- Silent Hill
- Suikoden II
- Chrono Cross
- Parasite Eve
Honorable Mentions
- Intelligent Qube
- Einhänder
- The Legend of Dragoon
- Legend of Mana
- Suikoden
- Arc the Lad Collection
- Final Fantasy VIII
- Parasite Eve II
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
My Top PS1:
Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9
Resident Evil 3
Parasite Eve 1
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
I always replay them on my PSVita!
Suikoden 1 and 2 are in my Top 10 PS1 games.
Right on place 1 and 2.
Great video. Thanks for the good memories. It was a great console. All my friends had the N64. I was the only one to have a ps1.
I’ve been waiting for this video my entire life and I didn’t even know it
This is a great list. The fact that my top 10 includes only two of your picks is a a testament to the crazy good overall catalogue of the playstation.
Tomb Raider 2
Die Hard
Ape Escape
Spyro: Enter the Dragon
Tekken 2
Silent Hill
Metal Gear Solid
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped
Couldn't agree more about Xenogears, such a classic!
Seeing Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve, and Final Fantasy Tactics on this list made me so happy. Your top 10 is nearly identical to mine. I really loved Saga Frontier and my favorite survival horror of all time is Clock Tower.
My fave console ever....I love the PS classic mini aswell.
PS1 was the greatest gaming machine ever made! And it's RGB out of the box - with a special cable!
@5:48 Incredible cinematics! LOLOL
The original Syphon Filter. You really felt like you were in a James Bond movie, and the taser...ah the taser. And I really loved Tomba!
"I am Alpha and Omega...", Xenogears was amazing!, your list almost match mine! (missing Valkyrie Profile and legend of dragoon)
Legend of Legaia!!! You gotta try it! ♥️
Underrated gems:
Team Buddies
Incredible Crisis
Hogs of War
Monkey Hero
Mr Driller
Fear Effect
Fear effect 1 & 2.... love those games!
Hogs of War
Played Mr driller for the first time today! It's a great addictive game
TEAM BUDDIES. FINALLY.
Hell yeah Incredible Crisis! I loved that game. The day in the life of a crazy Japanese family
Hey Johnny,
I really loved this video!!
Soulblade
Wipeout 2097
Tekken 3
FF VII
V-rally
Gran Turismo
Resident Evil
...loved all of these and so many others.
My favs:
Silent Hill
Ridge Racer R4
Oddworld
Bushido Blade
Heart of Darkness
Brave Fencer Musashi
Klonoa Door to Phantomile
Gundam Battle Assault 2
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Tomba!
Einhander
Tekken 3
Final Fantasy 9
Crash Bandicoot 3
Crash Team Racing
I grew up with PS1 and N64 and love both, but the PS1 has aged so much better and I find the graphical style so charming these days.
There are also still amazing games being made in this graphical style such as Anodyne 2 and Banned Memories.
Hell yeah another person who included brave fencer musashi in their list.
Drew Finally I see someone mention the incredible Tomba!

I love every seconds when you introduce the game and music kicks in!
Great video mate
Xenogears is my all time favourite, ultimate rpg , still today I play it.
Music from Yasunori Mitsuda, who composed for Chrono Cross.
Xenogears is still one of my fav games of all time. Square was truly on top of their game with the playstation. Xenogears was a masterpiece.
Resident evil nemesis and twisted metal are my absolute favorites
Thank you so much for the PE2 praise. The story's not much to write home about, but the gameplay genre crossover is second to none. The atmosphere is also awesome, as well the fluff text with your hunter investigations.
MGS1 is the Greatest PS1 Game of All Time
@@JonathanWillow-zz7rb I have to go all the way back there
Yes 😃👍
king's field, air combat, resident evil 2, medieval, bloody roar are my top 5 for the ps1.
I loved Square Soft games so much, and there are some good hidden gems for the PS1. A couple that stand out are Brave Fencer Musashi, and Einhander. One is an action RPG, and the other is a side-scrolling shooter.
Final Fantasy VII waz my verry first FF game I have ever played back then (in 2018) and I got addicted real fast.
I played it again in 2020 around the exact same time its remake was released,it was perfection. 💯
Jersey Devil is my favorite game ever straight up. But Ape Escape was so good. Gotta love old platforms
Ridge Racer 4 - any time!^^,)
Silent Hill, Syphoon Filter 3, Tomb Raider 4, Tekken 3, Driver 2, Dino Crisis 2, Ace Combat 2, and I also love Parasite Eve 2 most!
