Brilliant time for this video to drop. I set up DuckStation on my phone after a stay in hospital a month ago and have done the same now on my PC. Playing the classics I remember from back in the day. There are a tonne of PSX RPGs that I'm yet to play which I've grabbed based on recommendations. I want to play them all over the next year or so now I'm on a roll with this stuff again. I'm so impressed with DuckStation - I usually go to my PS1 connected to a little 14" CRT but with DuckStation I'm connected to my HDTV with a load of filters and clever stuff active and it looks simply amazing, it's how it looked in our minds eye back then when fresh. I've got an 8bitdo Pro 2 I'm using on both my PC and with a clip for my phone when I'm mobile. I went through the whole of Wild Arms over the course of a couple of weeks out and about staying away from home. All the best Kim, your time dedicated to this classic time in our lives never fails to bring a smile to my face!
Final Fantasy IX is my number one as an adult as I now appreciate RPG titles. As a kid I was hooked on Ultimate Doom, Alien trilogy, Resident Evil and Fifa. The Playstation was a literal game changer, going from a SNES to this! Thanks for the video Kim.
Overboard! is a quality, unique little game, very underrated - always think of it in same regard as Hogs Of War for some inexplicable reason. Fantastic list Kim, thank you.
FF7 also is my favorite game of all time. My best friend and I picked up our pre-order copies at Best Buy and had our 14-year-old brains melted by the magnitude of it. It was a watershed moment for video game storytelling. And, to this day, no game has come close to giving me the feeling this game gave me with its characters and story.
It's like no other. Recently I played through the 'seventh Heaven' PC modded version...It was like playing It for the first time in '97. Recommended ;)

Surprised that I didn't see some of my personal favorites on here: FF9, Chrono Cross, Jet Moto (and its first sequel... not so much the other one), Twisted Metal 2, MediEvil (that game deserves a LOT more love than it gets), Brave Fencer Musashi, and the Crash Bandicoot sequels.
I'm one of those 90's twenty somethings you referenced Kim, but if I remember correctly, I was always too wasted coming back from nights out to be sitting with friends to play games haha. Actually I never owned a PSX, so i'm enjoying watching for the recommendations to fire up on DuckStation :)
Thanks Kim! The PS1 is awesome! Some of my favourites are Resident Evil 2, Tekken 3, Pandemonium, Micro Machines V3, Croc, Metal Gear Solid and as for a hidden gem i would say Agent Armstrong or Rosco McQueen.
Wow don't know why but I think this one is going to be very special. I loved all my systems that I had growing up and feel very privileged to been able to have those memories but the PS1 there's going to be many games on this system. Also having had a pc as a kid things like Command and Conquer and Doom I will get to experience on the PS1. Many many happy memories thanks for Kim I can't wait to watch all of this..🥰

Thanks for the compilation Kim, great video. Also spot on for capturing all the game footage in high resolution! Bishi Bashi Special doesn't get mention often at all and it's probably the more fun couch co-op videogame ever
I remember playing Command and Conquer Red Alert for the first time with a link cable...Absolutely incredible to play against another Human, every kid in the neighborhood was crammed in the room. Twisted Metal 2, Resident Evil, The Need For Speed, Road Rash, Loaded, Einhander, GTA...so many classics.
God this video is so good, as always. Not only were the picks amazing and perfectly summarized, but you also surfaced a bunch of stuff deep within my memory that I’m kind of shocked I still remember. That taser in Siphon Filter broke me as a kid. I could not understand how such a weapon existed and if it did why it wasn’t the first choice of every army.
Brilliant list! I think it's telling of our slightly different ages because I was 6-10 when I originally owned and played my PlayStation. As such I think my faves reflect that: Kula World - One of the first 3D games I ever played and the graphics and physics of this "world" blew my mind as a kid and it still holds a place in my heart. Crash 3: One of the few games I not only completed, but actually bothered trying to get the hidden collectables. As a total non-completionist, it's really saying something. CTR: You basically said all that needs saying in the vid. Spyro 3 - My favourite of the Spyro series. Colourful, varied gameplay and I got to play a little dragon charging at guys and breathing fire. The other characters and NPCs were really fun and memorable, too. MediEvil 1&2 - Great action-adventure fun where I played a skeleton. Yes, yes, yessss. Micro Machines V3 - My other favourite racing game on the system. I still remember many of the jingles, the tracks and the fun powerups. And who could forget Cherry's Driving School 😂. Tombi! - swallowing and regurgitating items was never not amusing to child me! Rayman - I still remember the end of level jingle. Brilliant stuff Final Fantasy 9 - This was the only one that appealed to me style-wise as a kid and as blasphemous as it sounds, I've never gone back to play the other two 😬. But I absolutely adore this game, my favourite of the FFs I *have* played Resident Evil 2/Dino Crisis - put together as they're the only more "mature" games I really played on the system back in the day but they were very effective in scaring me. The atmosphere really was good, especially in the latter imo.
19:45 You know what, the LAPD is so absurdly well-funded (like, possibly better funded than your army) that I fully expect them to roll out something like that right before midterms.
I was never into consoles and cut my "computing teeth" on the ZX Spectrum and Commodore Amiga - but it's always interesting seeing what I missed out on on the console side of things and there's definitely a few games in your list that I will trying in an emulator or two. But I guess that original PS1 "Mental Wealth" advert did its job on me because I still remember and loathe it as much as I do today as I did back then - definitely in my "Top Ten Most Annoying Ads Of All Time" being just so incredibly "up its own arty-farty bottom". Thank you for all of your great content, especially in what have clearly been some difficult times for you recently.
This is an absolute dream video!!! Hoped for years you would do this as love your PS1 perspective and previous Top 100s, so so glad, you're amazing, thank you!
I'm alaways amazed how much you pored over so many games that ranking top 100s for so many platforms is a no-brainer for you, Kim. You're truly hardcore. Always a spectacle whenever I see one of these!
Oddly enough hearing the PS magazine tune at the end reminds me most of what I remember the PS1 for: Magazine demos. We had relatively few games, but every month we got that magazine with about 4 or 5 demos on it. MGS, Tombi, Soul Reaver, Syphon Filter, Ape Escape etc... I remember them less as full games and more the one or two levels you got on the PSM cover disc. That said my favorite game this video lacked was without doubt Vagrant Story. It was fiddly to get into, but it was primetime Squaresoft pushing the system to its limits and with a fantastic story to boot!
Tombi had probably the biggest PS1 demo I've ever seen, it let you play up until getting the pig bag from the dwarf elder. I never got to play Vagrant Story until it was on the PS Store and I really like what I've played of it but I don't understand the weapon crafting at all
Kim, it's nothing short of a miracle how you just keep posting these wonderful long-form videos. I love it helps me so much. I just listen while I work 👍👍❤️❤️
As soon as I saw the creepy "conquer worlds" kid, I knew I was gonna sit through the whole video in one sitting. The memories are flooding back, thanks Kim!!! 😍♥️♥️♥️
Great work as always Kim. I remember that one track in Rage Racer where you had to pick that car with a huge top speed, but awful acceleration. It took ages to catch up with the other racers, but once you did, you'd go flying past them. However, you had to make in around the circuit (3 laps I think) without any crashes, or you wouldn't be able to catch up with the other cars again due to the poor acceleration. Was a good challenge that one.
Glad to see Soul Blade so high up on the list. It's my pick for the most underrated fighting game of all time due to how much people just think of Calibur 1 and 2 and that seems to be it.
It’s like some people think only Soul Calibur 1 exists.. But I’m a fan of every installment I own which is Soul Blade, SC2-4, 6 and Broken Destiny.. And I’d have to admit the PSX version is the most charming..
Great video. International Track and Field is the best game in this genre. They've messed with the balance of these things since by adding stat upgrades so they aren't a level playing field anymore.
Cheers Kim. Tomb Raider 1 encouraged me to get a PS1, really happy I did. Nice to see Bushido Blade and G Police high up on your list :) I guess personal mentions are in order. I put a lot of time into; Vagrant Story, Assault Rigs, Breath Of Fire 3 and Front Mission 2.
In my opinion the PlayStation 1 was the most important console of all time and marked a turning point in gaming and 3d graphics. I didn't even own one but it really was something very special.
Agreed that it was and is a very special console that changed gaming, and even changed society to some extent, but your point about it being the console that single-handedly changed the gaming world is debatable. I say this because the N64 was the first truly popular console capable of lifelike 3D graphics. But I have to admit that the PS1 had a larger and better library. I would also argue that the Pong console was the most important console of all time, simply because it was the first.
3d turning point happened with 3dfx's Voodoo graphics card on PC. All of these games are better looking on it. Just for example look at GTA, it looks horrible on playstation.
Played it quite a lot when I was a kid and I'm still pleasantly surprised to find out about great titles on it that I had never heard of before, it's a great console even though tank controls make it hard to enjoy many of its games for me.
I like that you're able to tell something about every game, i like that it's indeed more personal list rather than some generic youTube lists that are all over pretty much the same :) Thanks :) I never had Playstation but thanks to RG351, i'm building my rom database and thanks to such list i can now have more unique titles. (everybody knows Tekken 3 etc. ;) )
Great video Kim, I can't even imagine the hours of work that must have gone into making this. Thanks for bringing up so many happy memories. Going to have to fire up a emulator or something and replay some of these. Oh, why oh why did I sell my games collection??!!
Watching Driver from about 42.25 - it's amazing to see how far games have come, when you could see the buildings gradually "popping up" in the background. It's been a privilege to see it all change so much over the years. Alas - I am now old.
Nice video and I am pleased to see Tenchu in the top 10. One football game I have never heard you talk about is Super Shot Soccer (Bakuretsu Soccer. I'm not into football, but I really enjoyed the interesting take that this game has.
Real nice to see Gekido and Silent Bomber so high up, two great and under-appreciated gems. Also nice to see some love for Heart of Darkness and Klonoa. Big omissions for me are: Soul Reaver Mega Man X4 Monkey Hero (pure nostalgia here) Sheep Dog 'n' Wolf Worms MDK (PC version is probs better but still) Sled Storm Chrono Cross FF9 is the big one for me though, my favourite piece of art in general. Would love to see you do a long-form retrospective for 9 like you did for 7 and 8, just to round off the PS1 trilogy.
With the PS1 MiSTer core in a really good state, this is a timely release to remind me of what I should be playing next. I've not seen your list yet, bust as long as you have Strider 2, R-Type Delta, Rival Schools and Bishi Bashi Special on there, I'm sure it's all good.
Exactly what I was thinking... Just penned a little list of games from this video and the comments of games I must add. I've been waiting for the core to go public before I start using it. Looks like may not be too long now 👍
Thanks for the great vid Kim, brought back some memories & nostalgia! 😉 Personal favourites not mentioned: FFIX, Um Jammer Lammy, Star Gladiator Wip3out.
What a great video, so many games I had forgotten about, and so many memories, will be digging some of these classics out, thank you for the video Kim, love you and your content xx
Ah, you kept me waiting for Bushido Blade there - was nearing panic stations that it hadn't show up yet, but very glad to see it reach a high spot. Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve are up there for me and the only two I missed - nice to see Tenchu make the grade too.
i love ur content kim , im a 43 year old sony playstation fan i was 20 when i bought my first used ps1 from funcoland (its gamestop nowadays) and my first game imformer with ape escape on the cover
One really weird but memorable game is Tail of the Sun. An early game from 96 where as a caveman you took care of your tribe and built up strength to kill mammoths and collect enough tusks to reach the sun.
Great list. Tomb Raider 2 - I remember ringing a cheat line to get help with the Venice level - still don't think my mum believed it was a "cheat line" when she saw the phone bill 😂😂
Great list! I would add Doom (great unique soundtrack), Abe's exoddus, Destruction derby 2, Wild arms, Breath of fire III, Exhumed, o and i prefer Tekken 2 over 3.
Really great video. Almost never see most of these mentioned before. For me the PS1 was the start of the JRPG so my favourite is Suikoden 2. A JRPG that I still don't really feel has been matched
So many great games on this list that I'd forgotten I'd ever played. I'm really glad you mentioned Cool Boarders though. Me and my friends were all fully in the aggressive roller blading scene at the time and this game was exactly what we wanted at the time. Preluded Tony Hawks by quite a few years and so so many other snowboard games followed too.
I've added 400 plus PS1 games to my SNES mini already, thought my 'hidden gem' hunting was finished but will now have too add at least another dozen, many thanks
Felony 11-79 was known as Runabout in Japan and was the first game in a fairly popular series. When the sequel came out in Europe in 2003 not only was it 3 years after the American release (and nearly 4 years after the Japanese release!) it was called Runabout 2. There was a game on the Dreamcast that actually came out before the Playstation sequel (Super Runabout: The Golden State).

Love you lists its all I watch retro games thank you keep it up........we need more!!!
I never got to play Vagrant Story until it was on the PS Store and I really like what I've played of it but I don't understand the weapon crafting at all
without demos my love for games would not have been possible. Vagrant story is one of my favourite games ever.
Resident Evil, first play... When the dogs jumped through the windows in the corridor was my first game jump scare I ever experienced. 👍😜
I think I would have added Ghost in The Shell and Abe's Exodus. Great list, great video and great channel.
FF7, Star Ocean Second story, Azure Dreams, Devils Deception, ISS 98.
Can’t wait to watch. This is going to be great.
Just seeing Rage Racer included in a video fills me with joy!!!!
That demo disc music at the end. So many memories...
I loved this video. Thanks. Really nice to see Tenchu ranked so high I love that game.
Great video. International Track and Field is the best game in this genre. They've messed with the balance of these things since by adding stat upgrades so they aren't a level playing field anymore.
Cheers Kim. Tomb Raider 1 encouraged me to get a PS1, really happy I did. Nice to see Bushido Blade and G Police high up on your list :)
I guess personal mentions are in order.
After ps2, everything gone downhill. Gaming console turned more into business $$$ making device. But we now have Meta Quest 2 which is the modern ps1
Ps1 was a hell of a machine and a massive step up from the Megadrive. Snes was great too though.
Played it quite a lot when I was a kid and I'm still pleasantly surprised to find out about great titles on it that I had never heard of before, it's a great console even though tank controls make it hard to enjoy many of its games for me.
What a brilliant video Kim, and thank you for including obscure gems like Felony 11-79 and Kurushi, not to mention Liberogrande.
Thank you Kim. Just about to go out to tidy the garden. This is the perfect companion ❤️
brilliant video, it was great to reminisce about some of my childhood games.
I like that you're able to tell something about every game, i like that it's indeed more personal list rather than some generic youTube lists that are all over pretty much the same :) Thanks :)
I never had Playstation but thanks to RG351, i'm building my rom database and thanks to such list i can now have more unique titles.
A thoroughly enjoyabe hour and a half, thanks Kim!
The legend of dragoon, Xzenogears, suikoden 1,2,Mgs,ff7,9,Resident Evil and too many more.ps1 started the big jrpgs era and stealth.
Aw brilliant. Cannot wait to get time to watch this. Thank you
Nice video and I am pleased to see Tenchu in the top 10.
Big omissions for me are:
Soul Reaver
Mega Man X4
Monkey Hero (pure nostalgia here)
Sheep Dog 'n' Wolf
Worms
MDK (PC version is probs better but still)
Sled Storm
Chrono Cross
FF9 is the big one for me though, my favourite piece of art in general. Would love to see you do a long-form retrospective for 9 like you did for 7 and 8, just to round off the PS1 trilogy.
Is that how you pronounce Galaga?! Shouting galaga galaga galaga, shouting galaga galaga galaga!
Looks like may not be too long now 👍
And if you don’t have a Mister, Duckstation is a masterpiece of software emulation
So many great memories especially Fifa 99, Smackdown 2 and GTA
so many of these are part of my childhood memory
i love ur content kim , im a 43 year old sony playstation fan i was 20 when i bought my first used ps1 from funcoland (its gamestop nowadays) and my first game imformer with ape escape on the cover
Great video. I was trying to remember the game silent bomber for years. You have done me a huge favour
One really weird but memorable game is Tail of the Sun. An early game from 96 where as a caveman you took care of your tribe and built up strength to kill mammoths and collect enough tusks to reach the sun.
Thanks for this great countdown Kim I was only gaming on PC and N64 during the late 90s and missed most of these games
Great list. Tomb Raider 2 - I remember ringing a cheat line to get help with the Venice level - still don't think my mum believed it was a "cheat line" when she saw the phone bill 😂😂
Some great picks here Kim. Excellent list, really enjoyed it!
Became much more of a pc gamer around this time, but the PS1 still holds a special place in my heart
That was a crackin lil set of games I loved the ps1 and some games Came up I have yett to play. Cheers, good job.
A great trip down memory lane Kim. Top stuff 👍
Great list Kim, thoroughly enjoyed watching that. Mine would be more rpg heavy but this is not my list. Great work.
F1 1997 was the F1 game that got me more into that sport, despite having played Monaco GP and even the previous F1 from Psygnosis.
Nice list, Kim. Some faves that would have been there for me: Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain, Twisted Metal World Tour, Warzone 2100 and Warhawk
That was a real treat kim , forgot about so many of them amazing titles , Alundra was a favorite of mine and still have my copy in the collection ~
NES Strider was great in its own way: collecting power ups, discovering the huge maps, unraveling the story. Any fan of Strider should try it!
I've added 400 plus PS1 games to my SNES mini already, thought my 'hidden gem' hunting was finished but will now have too add at least another dozen, many thanks
Just wait until you start looking into Japan-only games
Felony 11-79 was known as Runabout in Japan and was the first game in a fairly popular series. When the sequel came out in Europe in 2003 not only was it 3 years after the American release (and nearly 4 years after the Japanese release!) it was called Runabout 2. There was a game on the Dreamcast that actually came out before the Playstation sequel (Super Runabout: The Golden State).
"What a joy" indeed. Thank you once again, Kim!
Great list. Personally, I'd have in Urban Chaos, Total Drivin (so underrated) Lifeforce Tenka and a few others. Thanks again.
Great vid ! I recently modded my ps1 to run games off an SD card - so this has given me some great inspiration for games to try 😄
Heck yes - love these vids 🥰
Great video! As an unapologetic nintendo/retro guy, i totally skipped PS1. Having a video like this allowed me to make a list of ones i might be interested in. Stuff like Vib-Ribbon and Colony Wars look good---i took a few notes. Thanks!
I love the diversity of this system. My top games differ drastically, but this is an amazing list of games I should finally give a proper go. Thanks for the time and effort. Cheers!
The PS1 was my childhood console. Thank you for this video. So many memories.
The PlayStation is such an amazing console. A PS1, an ODE and an SD card packed with disc images and you’re set for life.
I'm surprised you don't have Parasite Eve on here. Pretty good list overall. Lots of variety which is nice to see.
It should have been in the top 20. Oops.
Nice list, there was a few games in here that I wasn't aware of, but look fun to play.
Amazing video Kim, you mentioned a few I haven't played, I shall check them out!
Awesome video Kim nobody does it like you! PS1 was Janie's first machine so we love it x
