That animation at the end almost makes me wish about an interface cable in wich you could connect the playstation to a snes, if a home brewer could make a cable and software for it, that would be awesome.
I have searched the Ghost in Shell game for over 10 years after I played it at a friends house. I never knew the game's name. I'm so glad I watched this video. Thank you very much.
This and the SNES hold top spots as my favorite consoles. So damn many good titles on the PS1 though it's mind melting sometimes. From Resident Evil to Castlevania SotN to Final Fantasy 7 and so on. Good stuff....good stuff indeed
This console was, and is still amazing. I still own my original Playstation with a few games (like Twisted Metal 2, Driver, Metal Gear Solid, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, 2Xtreme, Spyro The Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot Warped just to name a few). This made me a fan of Playstation from the moment I got my hands on a controller. I have so many memories with this console, and still to this day recommend the console if you want a good (sadly, now) classic gaming system.
1:30 I love Nintendo, but Sony kinda smashed them on this one. I mean Nintendo came out with their analog controller and the rumble pack later but then Sony came out with a controller with 2 analog sticks and 2 motors. In my opinion the dual shock is vastly superior controller.
+TheMentalRelapse The beginning of your sentence nailed it. As always, Nintendo brings the innovation and the competitors do copy and paste. To me, the N64 controller is much better, much more innovative and has much more "soul" than the original PSX controller. While the Dual Shock was great (and still is) it only came to existence due to Nintendos controller of this generation.
felix8709 I got a N64 before I got a PS. I later traded it for a PS. I think the N64 controller was very innovative and it works great for 3D pladformers but I just prefer the dual shock. To each his own.
You should cover games and series' like Jet Moto, Resident Evil, Road Rash, Tekken, Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8, Wipeout, and Um Jammer Lammy.
Yes, Um Jammer Lammy was even better (Improved) to Parappa, and there were like two Um Jammer Lammy, if I remember correct.. Parappa was also in there...
I was maybe 8 or 9 when I first got a Playstation for Christmas....... my ma says I stayed up in my room glued to the screen for 8 solid hours..... ahhh memories...... good memories....
While this doesn't apply to certain aspects of life, as a gamer I feel lucky to have been born when I was. I started out on the Atari. I was around for the 8-bit and 16-bit generations. I also got to see the evolution of 3D games and it was incredibly exciting. The leap from the 16-bit to 32-bit generation was absolutely mind blowing. The 90s was such an exciting time for gaming. The transition from the fifth to the sixth console generation was again a huge leap in fidelity and refinement. While the XBOX 360 and PS3 brought HD graphics to console gaming, it didn't have the same impact. We are now at the point of diminishing returns and unless something changes the face of gaming entirely, there will never be leaps forward like we saw with earlier console generations and that makes me incredibly sad.
+napalmhardcore Yeah, dude. I'm just not enthusiastic about the new crap that's coming out. We have the best games ever already and they're even better for us, cuz we remember when they came out.
+Rahmemhotep I personally like both new and old games. What I don't like so much are some of the trends of modern gaming. DLC, micro-transactions and games released with major issues in need of patching are the more obvious ones. When it comes to online multi-player games for example, I hate the fact that a lot of them spend half their life in beta. It takes away all the excitement of waiting for a games release date. It also devalues the game for people like myself that do wait for the games official release, as the majority of the player base have already been playing it for months and will be bored of it not long afterwards. I'm also worried for the future of gaming. I've heard speculation about how in a few years all gaming will be a streaming service like Playstation Now. That scares the crap out of me because it means if something like a license expires or a game doesn't have a large enough player base they will discontinue it. Afterall, it would take up server resources and a host machine to keep that game streamable, so if they can't turn a profit on it they'll want to re-allocate those resources.
It's pretty messed up, but very likely. Companies can't churn out games like they used to due to costs of the ridiculous production standard of today and gaming has been at a down turn for a few years now in my eyes. Indie games are no exception. Most indies are just a sort of counter culture to mainstream big company titles that often take 'nostalgia' and 'retro' factors to a really awful and cheesy point. I'm not saying that nobody makes any good games anymore (Nintendo still does for one thing), but it seems like most are missing the point. This is probably due to the new, massive generation of gamers who won't appreciate a great old romp in the 32 bit era, because the graphics are, "ugly," and the music is not a live recorded orchestra or what have you.
+Rahmemhotep I'm hoping when the time comes that companies try to push the idea of streaming only gaming that people speak up against it. I have not even tried Playstation Now on the basis that it will be one more count to their "this many people have used the service" technique of promoting/advertising. Some might say, "don't knock it until you've tried it", but I'm battling the long term implications that this type of service would bring. I agree with you on the indie point. There was a boom of genuinely fresh and creative games that came along a few years ago, and that is when the indie market exploded in popularity. Now there is this smugness that is displayed by fans of indie titles that gets on my nerves. They overlook how many indie games are just as guilty of the lack of imagination as the triple-A titles they are panning. For instance, if you look at the tags for all the indie titles on Steam and see how many times the terms Metroidvania or Rogue-like are in the tags, or the amount of JRPGs that are basically clones of classic titles. I think kitsch is an appropriate description of the majority of them. I've seen a fair few comments made by younger gamers about ugly graphics. I normally chalk this up to them being too young and ignorant to take into consideration when the games were made and what was standard for the time. On the other hand I've also read comments from younger gamers where they love older games and do "get it", so I guess there is hope. I will add something in relation to that last paragraph. It does annoy me when it is taken too far the other way. While it pretty much goes without saying that gameplay is more important than graphics, I've seen the phrase "graphics don't matter, only gameplay" spammed across various comment sections. It is more the fact that these people rarely have an intelligent argument to give when engaged in a debate. The remark is made without critical thinking like a parrot. I think graphics do matter to a greater or lesser extent dependent on the game. Better graphics add mood, atmosphere and immersion, as does sound.
I agree. I see some people online making the same comment. I'll be the first to admit that sometimes when I try to play a game with a graphic style that doesn't appeal to me or just too many 'ugly' polys or sprites, bad lighting and an awful musical score I tend to not want to play it anymore. The thing is that this doesn't usually happen for me unless the gameplay sucks or the mechanics are flawed or the story is lackluster or contradictory.
Thank you so much for mentioning that game. I mean seriously I almost never hear anyone talk about it. Love the fighting system. Though good luck finding a copy of the game. Cost me like $72 or something.
The first Playstation is my favourite console up till today. You can just have unlimited fun with the many awesome old titles that it's incredible. To mention few which weren't mentioned: Rayman, Akuji, Gex, Legend of Kartia (never heard anybody talkin bout it), DoDonpachi (my fav shmup), Discworld, Fear Effect 2, Medievil... way too many to count.
Don't forget Small Soldiers, The Twisted Metal games, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot Series, Dino Crisis series, Resident Evil Series, Final Fantasy Series ( FF7 is my favorite one ), A Bug's Life. I could name more games I played and enjoyed, but I would pass out.. LOL
***** Yeah I think Twisted Metal should have gotten a mention. It was rare to find a good game with localized multiplayer back then and my friends really had fun with the whole series.
Fun? Discworld? A bad port (looong pauses between voice lines, and terribly repetitive animation in cutscenes spring to mind) of possibly the least playable game of all time (entirely due to insanely illogical "logic" puzzles if not actual gameplay impossibilities).
The stop motion disassembly sequences you guys do are the best parts of your videos. It makes fairly mundane stuff like processor clocks and memory interesting. Keep up the good work, I love the videos you guys put out.
Man, watching this makes me realize how much my Playstation collection is lacking. But for all the great games the PS1 had, one of the best parts about the Playstation was the boot screen. SO GOOD!
I was about to head to bed and this popped up. Thanks, I was actually looking forward to getting more than 6 hours of sleep... Stop making such great content!
Trainman 675 Explain why it is no longer canon. Also, you are lucky to have said that to one of the few people on the internet who doesn't lynch people for having a different opinion.
28:03 To fix that problem, you can press the Start button and go to the Options menu. There should be an option for camera. If you change it to active, the camera will move with you.
Duncan N That's crazy! I mean I noticed that when the original Playstation was announced but it always blows me away when people say they just now see this. And I've heard it from quite a few different people so you're not the only one! :)
Duncan N seriously? O_O... how could you not notice the massive red P?... surely when you looked and saw that big red P you would realise the thing behind it was an S?... I noticed this the day I got it and I was like 11
It's kinda good that Nintendo pulled the dick move it did 'cause without that we gamers never wouldn't have... -the Game Cube -PS2 -Wii -PS3 -Wii U -PS4 And yes the Xbox's. My point is that competition is good and the true winners are the gamers!
if you read into the story, it was all a giant Sony dick move to begin with, Nintendo just realized that and let go. And yes, we do have that to thank for. I think competition's good, but I can't think of a single thing MS has done for gaming that's actually necessary, I would much rather have a Sony vs Nintendo gaming life than a 3 way war (and I do have all consoles, but 3 a gen is just one too many)
Miguel Alejandro Vergara True. I too wish it was just between Nintendo and Sony but you can't deny the positive effects that Xbox has had on the industry. I've never owned a xbox (original, 360 or xbone) and I never will *BUT* if it wasn't for them a lot of NA games would have remained PC exclusive and we never would have an online console network.
Misterprickly I don't know about that, NES had online, SNES had online, I don't know bout the N64, but the GameCube did, also the Genesis and DC had it's online capabilities before the Xbox came out, albeit mostly only in Japan (the Genesis online service was active even down here in South America and the DC was online all over).
Ever since I found your channel I've been waiting for you to do THIS video. I think it was one of my first comments I made on one of your videos. I'm writing this pre-watching it and I already know it's gonna be awesome. Love your channel!
I don't think "forgot" is accurate. It's most likely they intentionally omitted certain games due to time constraints. Besides that, its not as-if 99% of the viewers don't already know about Tomb Raider and Resident Evil. Who do you think is watching this? Grandma and grandpa? Sheesh.
You just earned a new subscriber. This would have been incredibly time consuming to compile and put together. Thanks for sharing; can't wait to check out the other videos
Its in the saturn review, because it was originally a saturn exclusive and didn't hit the PlayStation til over a year after its release... Shame on you for not knowing that about your pretty iconic game (;
I cant remember what year it was, maybe 97, but i remember when my dads got me a playstation for my birthday. The forst game i had was spawn and i remember being blown away by the graphics. I knew gaming would never be the same after that
Great video guys. Thanks! I'm really starting to love and respect PS1. I'm restoring a bunch of these dusty consoles now. They designed a near perfect controller in 1995. Amazing
Ridge Racer's drifting only really works when in first person, and it takes a bit to pick up. I couldn't play any Ridge Racer game properly until I realized that. The music is also definitely an acquired taste, if you're not a fan of early-90s hardcore techno, you won't get it at all. Probably the most ordinarily enjoyable song in the game is Grip (dunno if that's in the original or only in Revolution). maybe one day you will enjoy the songs Rotterdam Nation '95 and Dat Dan Day...A from Ridge Racer Revolution though, haha one day R4's a great game, but the handling always felt weird to me and I don't think it has particularly great track design, especially coming off of Rage Racer's absolutely amazing courses. It's easily the best looking PS1 game though, period. The soundtrack is standout too, one of the finest around.
Great episode guys! I know some people really hate these, but the King's Field games and Shadow Tower are among my favorites. I also love Diablo, it was nice to be able to play it without owning a computer!
So glad to see Vandal Hearts in here. I loved that game when it came out, and felt super bored by Final Fantasy Tactics when it was released after. The blood spray animation when you take out an enemy is so satisfying!
I was surprised that Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain wasn't on this. Top down old school game with great graphics, music, and voice cast. More people need to know about the roots of the series.
That bit about the Strider 2 discs: that mess up is also reflected in the PSN release. The Disc 1 option (the one that automatically boots when you start the game) is the Strider 1 port whereas the Disc 2 option is Strider 2. I think it's still like that and wasn't updated.
Kevin Mintahafari where did you get ps2 and dreamcast from yeah they are great systems no doubt about it but they can't beat the classic iconic legendary and my favorite system of all time the ps1
Beyond MK I agree the ps1 is my favorite system of all time and it had so many awesome games like twisted metal 1 and 2 final fantasy 7 and 8 and then the ongoing tekken series and honestly the very first game that I played for the ps1 was twisted metal 1 that's why it's my favorite game on the ps1 and it will always have a special place in my heart ☺☺☺
Sure. I mean, almost every console has its top tier, maybe even legendary tier (like the PS2 and SNES), games but looking at the PS1? The iconic "Final Fantasy" Series (and my favorite one is on there (FF8)), the start of the "real" Metal Gear Solid, the start of the "Gran Turismo" Series, the best "Ridge Racer" game (Ridge Racer Type 4) to date, the start of real Horror (for home-consoles anyway) with "Resident Evil" and "Silent Hill", back then the underrated but now considered a legend of a game "Legend of Dragoon", its first mascot called "Crash Bandicoot" and the jump to success for Naughty Dog (with "Uncharted" or "The Last of Us"), real vehicle combat with "Twisted Metal" or "Destruction Derby" and too many games to count. "Tekken", several "Tales of ..." games, "Vagrant Story", "Jade Cocoon", "Wild Arms", "Xenogears", "Suikoden", "Driver", Spyro the Dragon", "Rayman", "Rival Schools", "Castlevania SotN", "Einhänder" (generally the PS1 was a paradise for SquareSoft back then), "Hard Edge", "Tenchu", "Hogs of War", "Kula World", "Medievil", "Rollcage", "Persona"........................yeah, i could sit here all day.
As you can see this is a Playstation black disc, cut number 1 contains computer data so please don't play it, but you probably won't listen to me anyway, will you? *music starts playing*
Good video! Brings back the memories. Playstation started so many series. My favorite are Final Fantasy 7, Gran Turismo, Tekken, Twisted Metal.. and others I forgot
Enjoyable and informative. I am suprised that you didn't point out that since the Ridge Racer games (excluding R4) loaded completely into the systems, you were able to pop in a regular CD and listen to your own music while you raced.
+Hiram E No, it's not stupid, it's quite creative how they use stop motion animation. Like the expansion pack for the N64 which moves like a tongue. Also popularity is not a garant for quality in any way, shape or form. The humour of the masses is not an indicator for a great sense of humour. They can't break 150k subscribers because most retro game channels have a hard time doing this.
***** Maybe it has to do with me getting older, but a channel who reaches more than 100k people is still an amazing thing. And what's bad about not being for anyone? Nothing. I like these guys, and so do all the people too who will stay. There are more than enough channels for everyone. Their format is sustainable enough, because every console will become retro at the right time and then they will cover it. They will never get out of content, but they have to take breaks because of the idea behind their format. I don't have a problem with that. I don't know what the problem was between Gamesack and TGH, but while i like TGH, he is exactly what he is: a historian. While his format is interesting it isn't entertaining. And this is why i like both channels.
Great episode. The Playstation was the best console of it's day, and helped push gaming into the mainstream, whereas before it was something considered as a niche market for only the hardcore people who played video games. Along with the SNES, it's my favorite console of all time.
I like how you guys had battle arena toshuiden music but didn't show it . It's a rare fighter and one of the ones that revolutionized 3d fighters But I love the channel guys , almost done watching all your videos . Keep up the good work !
Well I wouldn't say 360 beat PS3 at all in terms of games and sales, the Wii on the other was great but I think it actually hurt Nintendo in the long run. Take a look at the Wii U, a lot of people that own a Wii are not the kinds of people that will be buying new systems (Think seniors). Regardless Playstation has never fallen off the map after 4 gens like SEGA and Nintendo's gamecube.
Except thats wrong. PS3 ended up selling second most, and 360 in 3rd. And as for Multiplatforms? You are wrong on that front too GTA 5 (PS3) - 17 million 360 - 14 million Bioshock Infinite (PS3) - 3.10 360 - 2.71 Tomb Raider (2013) - 2.22 360 - 1.71 DMC - .73 360 - .36 Those are just a few examples. There are some big games like Cod, and Battlefield that do sell more then PS3, but by the end of the gen Cod Ghosts only sold .7 more on 360 then the PS3, when compared to the 360 version of Black ops in 2010 sold 2 million more then the PS3 version. I'd say after 2009/10 Sony turned it completely around and in the end bested 360. As far as I see it, Uncharted 2's release, and the slim redesign was the crucial turning point.
Another long, poorly acted, and awkward sounding video...and I wouldn't want it any other way! You guys are by far my favorite bi weekly show online and I doubt theirs much you could do to change that.
You've missed one important function on 'Ridge Racer'. After the game has already loaded, you can take out the game CD and replace it with any music CD you want! And the game will pick and play certain tracks. Me and my brother used to play this game while listening to anything from Metallica to Snoop Dogg to rave music. :)
***** Also, I think it's likely they will review it soon because the system was discontinued with over 3500 games aswell as it being the best selling console in history.
I never caught before this watch you showed love for my Vandal Hearts!! In my 20’s I finally did the secret side quest where you get Ash’s special class and he can use every bad guy attack in the game. This game still holds up today.
The PS1 is a great console and it's still a good period to collect for it! Love the selection of games and I'm also glad that you chose Lomax, it's quite an obscure game now. Thanks for the video!
I loved the original Sony PlayStation. My favorite games on that console were the Crash Bandicoot series, the Namco Museum series, Tekken 3, Tomba was alright, Gex was okay, Pac-Man World 1 and Ms. Pac-Man: Maze Madness were awesome, Musashi was meh, Bomberman World was fun, Space Invaders was meh, and SpongeBob SquarePants: Super Sponge was okay, Ten Pin Alley was alright, Einhander was alright, and Spyro the Dragon was pretty cool.
Speaking of the PS1, this console made anime REALLY popular, every game I've heard of so far for this console the characters look all anime which is pretty cool for anime fans like me and other fans of ANIME
I just plugged in my old beast of a Playstation a few days ago and played the first Medal of Honor again. Boy, it still was fun as it was in its prime. The graphics are always blocky as it was, but its great because it ahows how far we've come since then. Im a person though who doesn't mind, as long as the story and gameplay is great. :) I was able to buy a PS1 for my 6 yr old for 5 bucks including a controller. So now I suggest would be a good time to get a ps1 if you want a nostalgia trip. :)
Pretty good episode. I like several of the focuses. However, one thing that many people don't focus on so much: for all of the good original software and contemporary arcade ports, the PlayStation got a ton of great classic arcade and console compilations between North America and Japan. Atari (Atari Anniversary Edition) Atari/Atari Games/Williams/Midway (Arcade's Greatest Hits series, Arcade Party Pak) Activision (Activision Classics) Mattel Electronics (Intellivision Classics) Capcom (Capcom Generations series/Street Fighter Collection series) Namco (Namco Museum series) Konami (Konami 80's Gallery/Arcade Classics, Konami Antiques MSX series, Deluxe Pack series) Seibu Kaihatsu (Raiden Project) Jaleco (Jaleco Collection Vol 1) Irem (R-Types, Arcade Gears: Image Fight & X-Multiply) Sunsoft (Sunsoft Memorial series) That's what I could think of now. Even beyond compilations there's even more old school goodness, like the Arcade Gears series from Xing, the Hamster Arcade Hits stuff, Capcom's Rockman/Mega Man Complete works, budget re-releases from Agetec/A1, Success, Mud Duck, D3... so much fun stuff.
One of my favorite games that was lesser known was Mass Destruction. A top down tank shooter. Kinda' like the Strike games but in a tank instead of an Apache attack helicopter. Which reminds me that Soviet Strike was my first game to own on the system. If it weren't for high school my memories of that period in life would be pretty awesome.
Just checking these out again and if I remember correctly, heat was causing laser to slowly fail. But the fact that turning helped it to read properly, is because the first models did have a plastic rail, where the laser sled moved. And constant moving started to eat the plastic away, so the rail became uneven and therefore the sled (and the laser-diode) was tilted to one side. That made it so, that it could not properly focus to disc anymore. When you turned the machine upside down, the sled rested on the bottom part of the rail, which was still straight so it could read properly. Of course, that too was slowly worn and you got the same problem again. They fixed this later, by making the rails from metal...
Personally I feel the PS one graphically holds up better than the N64, for example, Crash Team Racing looks way better than Diddy Kong Racing, Crash Team's graphics are sharp and well detailed, Diddys are a blurry mess. and look at Wipeout 3: Special Edition, Final Fantasy IX and Crono Cross, they pushed the PS One to its limit and they look better than any N64 game, the only N64 games that have aged well, are Mario 64, LoZ: Ocarina of Time, LoZ: Majora's Mask, GoldenEye 007, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie and F-zero X. It's ironic how the N64 library was supposed to graphically superior to the PS One and yet it now looks worse than the PS One library. Metal Gear Solid and Vagrant Story's graphics look great even today despite the dithering effect and jaggys, but at the end of the day I'd rather have pixelated dithering over ugly blurry textures any day
Yeah, i dont know much about specs or something but comparing both consoles and what they can do graphically, then PS1 destroys the N64. But when it comes to the libraby itself, then the PS1 pulverizes the N64.
the N64 graphically could display better shaped 3d objects with more polygons also N64 3d shapes wern't jittery like the ps1, but the ps1 had far greater capasity on their disks 650mb compared to the puny 64mb N64 carts and only a couple N64 carts were as big as 64mb such as conkers bad fur day, high res textures take up a hell of a lot more space thats why psi games look so pretty, not because of their jittery sharp angled low poligon 3d models by the higher res textures laid across thoes polygons, N64 carts did not have the space for that quality of texture so they were lower res.
N64 used bilinear texture filtering which made their textures look smoother, but because texture resolution back then was so low it had the tendency to make textures look less detailed too. I think the N64 had more VRAM than the PS1.
This is the system that finally pulled me away from Nintendo. I was a hardcore Nintendo fan but when I found out that the Nintendo was sticking with cartridges as opposed to CD's I figured I'd give Sony a try. Strange logic, I know but to a teenager in the 90's it seemed like Sony was more cutting edge. It's a tie between ps1 and the snes as my all time favorite. What's interesting is that I probably would have ended up liking the Saturn more since it played fighting games better. By the time I found out about the Saturn, it was already over for them.
The best there was. The best there ever will be. I bought a playstation with the money I earned through my paper route. The only annoying thing was getting corrupted memory cards. Oh boy. I figured out that leaving the cards in the system was the main culprit to the corruption.
Were they 3rd party cards or official Sony cards? I've had two Sony cards since the beginning and they still work great! I always leave them in the system.
Game Sack I used both third party and official cards with the same results. I had more problems with the PSone slim console. I deduced it was from moving the consoles with the cards still inserted in them (my parents made me pack up the playstation after I was done with it each time). Nothing like getting 40 hours into an RPG and having your game save corrupted along with every other game save. I used to remove cards like a surgeon and place them back in their case after use. I took no risks!
MrBlaarghh too bad i didn't take the mem cards out during storms, when the power went out do to lightning it corrupted the cards that were in the console and rendered them useless
Childhood systems i got in chronological order. NES - birthed my love for gaming. MegaDrive - confirmed my love for gaming for the rest of my life. PS1 - perfected everything i loved about gaming and changed my life forever. Hands down these 3 systems are untouchable in terms of retro gaming and all the amazing games they have
Ok, I feel like dropping 5 PSX titles that I haven't seen on the show to have a nose at if you want. Not in any order really. 1. SHOOTER : X2 (not the pc game!) - Team 17/Ocean/Capcom. Horizontal/vertical shooter, good music and mech bosses with great designs which uses good parallax, sprite scaling and rotation etc (don't play on ps2 as you'll get graphical glitches and menu problems). 2. RPG: Original Wild Arms! - Media vision/Sony. Why does no one talk about the original! It's one of my favorite RPG's ever. Fantastic intro/music and story especially. 3. FIGHTER: Gekido - Naps team/Infogrammes. Unusual 4 player sidescrolling beat 'em up with weapons, loads of bosses and unlockables. No one ever talks about this either. 4. SIDESCROLLING ACTION: CT Special forces - LSP/Manfred Trenz. Great Metal Slug-a-like from the creator of Turrican with fantastic music and very varied levels. 5. JUST FOR FUN: Mickeys Wild Adventure - Disney. An updated version of Mickey mania on the Genesis with CD audio and updated level designs. I've never heard anyone discuss the differences between them. They're both great! If only 1 person finds any of these new to them, then my job is done.
Thanks for the time and effort put into your channel guys. I appreciate that you do the lists and games YOU feel like talking about, so it's not like every other game channel. Keep it up and to the few negative commenters here... go make your own videos if you dislike Game Sack so much. Their view counts speak for themselves.
That ending animation man...I've never seen anything by you guys that made me WTF so hard...
wtf isn't a verb..
Love that ending
I know right what was that?
@@Kunstschilder1987 the F part of it is ^_~
That animation at the end almost makes me wish about an interface cable in wich you could connect the playstation to a snes, if a home brewer could make a cable and software for it, that would be awesome.
Don't forget Mega Man X4, Tomb raider 3, kings field, and Duke Nukem Total Meltdown.
AlphaOmegaSin PS1, yes. Snes, not a chance.
What about crash bandicoot
odeiup that too
And now you are big
This console was, and is still amazing. I still own my original Playstation with a few games (like Twisted Metal 2, Driver, Metal Gear Solid, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, 2Xtreme, Spyro The Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot Warped just to name a few). This made me a fan of Playstation from the moment I got my hands on a controller. I have so many memories with this console, and still to this day recommend the console if you want a good (sadly, now) classic gaming system.
Thunderbyrd absolute killer queen and then some, where it all started, and still FUCKEN killer, love love love the system
Me too I wish I still had mine! Hold on to it and those games forever man, those are some classics.
So many good games on the system
@@vaevictis_ get one bro they're not crazy expensive
What's sad about a console being a classic? Classic means good lol.
Twisted Metal 2...That game...that's where it was at.

TheMentalRelapse Wise words, mate. Tastes are different and I love both of them, the N64 as well as the PSX.
the n64 controller is trash
You should cover games and series' like Jet Moto, Resident Evil, Road Rash, Tekken, Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8, Wipeout, and Um Jammer Lammy.
Yes, Um Jammer Lammy was even better (Improved) to Parappa, and there were like two Um Jammer Lammy, if I remember correct.. Parappa was also in there...
love to wake up and find a new game sack upload! makes for a great show to watch while i eat breakfast :)

Gran Turismo is the reason I got a PlayStation
i remember my dad got GT and he bought the racing wheel with it. one of the best christmass ever
Let's face it, Grand Turismo came out the same year the Sega Saturn was discontinued
Legend of Legaia is one of the hidden gems of the PS1 era
Thank you so much for mentioning that game. I mean seriously I almost never hear anyone talk about it. Love the fighting system. Though good luck finding a copy of the game. Cost me like $72 or something.
I think I relived half my childhood with this video! Instantly added to My Favorites. Excellent retrospective of a great system you guys. Well done.

LOL
Yay, Rayman! I still have the original CD of it!
*****
Yeah I think Twisted Metal should have gotten a mention. It was rare to find a good game with localized multiplayer back then and my friends really had fun with the whole series.
HELLYEAH JoQan.
Fun?
I just found this channel and I love it so much, it's so good.
Man, watching this makes me realize how much my Playstation collection is lacking. But for all the great games the PS1 had, one of the best parts about the Playstation was the boot screen. SO GOOD!

These episodes are so timeless
This episode gave me an idea; you should do an episode on 2D games released in the 3D era. You covered a few of them on this video
The greatest example of this is Megaman X5 on the PlayStation
Nick Hunter X4 wasn't bad either
Trainman 675 neither was X6. Attempt to argue, and I would like to remind you that X7 and X8 sucked so much that they are no longer canon.
X8 was a great game!
Game Sack- Still the best retro video game show!
You know I just realized that the Playstation's symbol is a P and S
Duncan N That's crazy! I mean I noticed that when the original Playstation was announced but it always blows me away when people say they just now see this. And I've heard it from quite a few different people so you're not the only one! :)
Game Sack It took me a while too. It has been until the last few years that I've noticed the PlayStation-symbol is a P and S combined
Duncan N seriously? O_O... how could you not notice the massive red P?... surely when you looked and saw that big red P you would realise the thing behind it was an S?... I noticed this the day I got it and I was like 11
Adam Michael
i'm not to sure how i haven't noticed it

At 10:08 my heart sank as you started mauling that instruction manual.
Mauling? It can take it. It's not made from aerogel or something.
Any bend in those pages hurts me right in the OCD.
BoredOfThisSite
Ha ha true but I have a similar OCD so I make sure never to crease them. It's just hard to turn ages from behind the camera. :)
Fair point, well made.
It's kinda good that Nintendo pulled the dick move it did 'cause without that we gamers never wouldn't have...
-the Game Cube
-PS2
-Wii
-PS3
-Wii U
-PS4
And yes the Xbox's.
Miguel Alejandro Vergara On what planet did the NES & SNES have online capability?
Emulators don't count!
Misterprickly please invesitage
rayman, rayman 2, the coolboarders series and pacman 3d were some of my favourite games as a kid that weren't already mentioned
Wow. The stop motion at the end was pretty messed up :D

As a Nintendo fan I must say that the PSX is my favorite console ever.
Can't belive you forgot, Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil
They fortunately included, the games in other episodes.
They forgot Wipeout and Twisted Metal too.
I don't think "forgot" is accurate. It's most likely they intentionally omitted certain games due to time constraints. Besides that, its not as-if 99% of the viewers don't already know about Tomb Raider and Resident Evil. Who do you think is watching this? Grandma and grandpa? Sheesh.
@@johnalbertson79 I've always figured these videos were basically history lessons for younger viewers. Omitting the biggest games skews history.
and kings field
You just earned a new subscriber. This would have been incredibly time consuming to compile and put together. Thanks for sharing; can't wait to check out the other videos
Tomb Raider isn't even mentioned? That was a pretty iconic game of the PS1 era and one of the reasons the console sold so well. Shame on you.
Its in the saturn review, because it was originally a saturn exclusive and didn't hit the PlayStation til over a year after its release... Shame on you for not knowing that about your pretty iconic game (;
Probalby my favorite console.
Big kudos for mentioning Vandal hearts :D

Redfoxe I love that game.
I cant remember what year it was, maybe 97, but i remember when my dads got me a playstation for my birthday. The forst game i had was spawn and i remember being blown away by the graphics. I knew gaming would never be the same after that
Vintage gamesack, aww I miss the days of Joe and Dave you guys make the best retro game content
I'm both a huge GameSack fan and Playstation fan, and man, were some games missing. But the bit on Silent Hill was great.

Really enjoying your channel guys
Thanks!
How?
THAT ENDING.
Probably the most ordinarily enjoyable song in the game is Grip (dunno if that's in the original or only in Revolution).
maybe one day you will enjoy the songs Rotterdam Nation '95 and Dat Dan Day...A from Ridge Racer Revolution though, haha
one day
R4's a great game, but the handling always felt weird to me and I don't think it has particularly great track design, especially coming off of Rage Racer's absolutely amazing courses. It's easily the best looking PS1 game though, period. The soundtrack is standout too, one of the finest around.
I love the music on Ride Racer, hardcore techno was more popular in Europe than America. Probably why he hates the music.
Your videos make me so happy! Well done as usual! Love the console orgy at the end!
Great episode guys! I know some people really hate these, but the King's Field games and Shadow Tower are among my favorites. I also love Diablo, it was nice to be able to play it without owning a computer!
i LOVE Kings Field!
King's Field II was one of my favorites!
I miss the two of you guys doing the show.
"GEX: Enter The Gecko", Blasto, Spyro, Apocalypse and Medievil are my favorites games
I've watched you since 4 YEARS AGO! I'm rediscovering some old youtubers I used to watch and came across you guys. I still watch you to date.
I hope you know Silent Hill is supposed to be foggy...
Of course we do. But it is a good way of working around the system's limitations. And it's also good to joke about looking like an N64 game.
True that lol
So glad to see Vandal Hearts in here. I loved that game when it came out, and felt super bored by Final Fantasy Tactics when it was released after. The blood spray animation when you take out an enemy is so satisfying!
I was surprised that Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain wasn't on this. Top down old school game with great graphics, music, and voice cast. More people need to know about the roots of the series.
Don't worry we already know about that awesome game!
I still have my copy.
I've really come to like your channel, I like that you have different opinions and one of you really loves Sega stuff
That bit about the Strider 2 discs: that mess up is also reflected in the PSN release. The Disc 1 option (the one that automatically boots when you start the game) is the Strider 1 port whereas the Disc 2 option is Strider 2. I think it's still like that and wasn't updated.
One of my favorite games for the PlayStation is syphenfilter 2
The legendary PS1. My favorite console of all time, no contest.
Beyond MK ps2 ? Dreamcast ?
What about it? Both (together with the SNES) are indeed Top Tier Konsoles but still, imo, the PS1 is the only Legendary Tier one.
Mad props on the Alundra love.
Maybe the best post-cred in Game Sack history. Well done!
Openning tune, for those interested, is Little Cluffy Flouds by Mark Knight (TDK) AKA The Mad Fiddler.
I seriously never knew that you had to turn the system upside down.....that is hilarious. This was awesome by the way!
You lucky b@$?! If i try picture a PlayStation in my mind, it's usually upside-down!!
10 Years from now, the Sack'll cover the Xbox 360...

As you can see this is a Playstation black disc, cut number 1 contains computer data so please don't play it, but you probably won't listen to me anyway, will you? *music starts playing*
Oh, Alucard. You rapscallion, you!
Dat ending, some hot action going on
That means you have to take 1000ts of still shots from different console at different places,at different positions and at different angles, phew.
Imagine how many times Joe has played the first level of gradius
FUCK WAS WITH THAT SCENE AT THE END

+Hiram E No, it's not stupid, it's quite creative how they use stop motion animation. Like the expansion pack for the N64 which moves like a tongue. Also popularity is not a garant for quality in any way, shape or form. The humour of the masses is not an indicator for a great sense of humour. They can't break 150k subscribers because most retro game channels have a hard time doing this.
*****
Maybe it has to do with me getting older, but a channel who reaches more than 100k people is still an amazing thing.
"I unsubscribed to these assclowns when I saw them talking shit to Video Game Historian in his comment box"
Please explain further.
+Dade Murphy - I'm guessing it was Gaming Historian. He and us are friends so whatever he saw was playful banter that he took out of context.
Great episode, and thanks for not covering all the well known games! Good to see games I haven't played before.
Just found this channel. Can't wait to watch all your videos.
It's a rare fighter and one of the ones that revolutionized 3d fighters
But I love the channel guys , almost done watching all your videos . Keep up the good work !
Its kind of crazy how sony grabbed the console market and never looked back. Its been pretty much on top for 20 years now.
With the ps1 and 2. The wii and the 360 somewhat beat the ps3. But, the ps4 is doing great!
You are wrong on that front too
GTA 5 (PS3) - 17 million
360 - 14 million
Bioshock Infinite (PS3) - 3.10
360 - 2.71
Tomb Raider (2013) - 2.22
360 - 1.71
DMC - .73
360 - .36
Those are just a few examples.
As far as I see it, Uncharted 2's release, and the slim redesign was the crucial turning point.
marty13612 ps4 great
Another long, poorly acted, and awkward sounding video...and I wouldn't want it any other way!
You guys make some of the best videos on RUclips. Keep doing what your doing. - Greg
I bet if they talked about the Playstation 2, the episode would be ABSOLUTELY HUGE.
*****
Also, I think it's likely they will review it soon because the system was discontinued with over 3500 games aswell as it being the best selling console in history.
***** the ps2 is the best selling console in history though it passed the dreamcast recently.

billywws You're right, it's a 46 minute long episode. It's that huge.
Even with games like Crash Bandicoot, Klonoa, and Spyro, Ape Escape probably remains my favorite PS1 game ever.
Natural Mystic Hey I'm not judging.
Whatever stimulates that chub.

TENCHU! I MISS YOU!
I never caught before this watch you showed love for my Vandal Hearts!! In my 20’s I finally did the secret side quest where you get Ash’s special class and he can use every bad guy attack in the game. This game still holds up today.
This is the first game sack episode I watched
The PS1 is a great console and it's still a good period to collect for it! Love the selection of games and I'm also glad that you chose Lomax, it's quite an obscure game now. Thanks for the video!
i have loads of games for this.
Same here! About 100+ games.
i must have about 300 or more games for it.
+MegaMan/SonicFan ロックマン/ソニックファン And me had been around and popular for MANY OF decades BEFORE the PS1. The PS1 didn't make it popular........
Dustin Nunn absolute killer queen and then some, where it all started, and still FUCKEN killer, love love love the system
Have you ever owned or played Sled Storm for the Sony PlayStation?
This is such an awesome episode!
I just discovered this channel yesterday, looked over some of the videos without even clicking on them, and then subscribed. Keep up the good work!
Yep a lot of time went into making that end sketch simply amazing stopmotion!
Best console ever, hands down.
Giordan Diodato Thats a strange way to spell N64
thats even funnier way of spelling sega genesis giordan and mrskullballcorp
actually.... I agree with you now that i think about it
I agree best console ever. Well, the PS2 was also one of my favs and so many memorable games. I still love me some NES tho too.
***** N64 is barely better than Virtual Boy.
The best console ever after the PS2.
It came before. Stuuuuupid.
@@hacksbeenjamin i think he meant that the ps1 is better than ps2
My nephew loves playing the heck out of the Ridge Racer Type 4 on the PlayStation Classic
Pretty good episode. I like several of the focuses. However, one thing that many people don't focus on so much: for all of the good original software and contemporary arcade ports, the PlayStation got a ton of great classic arcade and console compilations between North America and Japan.
Atari (Atari Anniversary Edition)
Atari/Atari Games/Williams/Midway (Arcade's Greatest Hits series, Arcade Party Pak)
Activision (Activision Classics)
Mattel Electronics (Intellivision Classics)
Capcom (Capcom Generations series/Street Fighter Collection series)
Namco (Namco Museum series)
Konami (Konami 80's Gallery/Arcade Classics, Konami Antiques MSX series, Deluxe Pack series)
Seibu Kaihatsu (Raiden Project)
Jaleco (Jaleco Collection Vol 1)
Irem (R-Types, Arcade Gears: Image Fight & X-Multiply)
Sunsoft (Sunsoft Memorial series)
That's what I could think of now.
Ghost in the Shell? I had the demo disc for that! It's long gone now, but I really enjoyed the demo!
I think It also had a remake in the PSP along with a sequel for the same console based in the second movie (Ghost in the shell: Stand Alone Complex)
Dynamo Kirby
I loved Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex on the PS2! Played it 2 or 3 times all the way thru! :D
I loved the music in RidgeRacer 1.
Yes just like all of the other Namco games on psx. 👍
Ah, The PS1 & 2 were Sonys BEST consoles that had the best games back when gaming was about games not the shit we play today...
N64 and PS2 were so blurry
What about Mario Kart 64?
This is the system that finally pulled me away from Nintendo. I was a hardcore Nintendo fan but when I found out that the Nintendo was sticking with cartridges as opposed to CD's I figured I'd give Sony a try. Strange logic, I know but to a teenager in the 90's it seemed like Sony was more cutting edge. It's a tie between ps1 and the snes as my all time favorite. What's interesting is that I probably would have ended up liking the Saturn more since it played fighting games better. By the time I found out about the Saturn, it was already over for them.
kingpin785 absolute killer queen and then some, where it all started, and still FUCKEN killer, love love love the system
Cd was cutting edge, all other consoles were moving to CD at the time.
Nintendo were silly sticking to cart.
MrBlaarghh ps4 best
Childhood systems i got in chronological order. NES - birthed my love for gaming. MegaDrive - confirmed my love for gaming for the rest of my life. PS1 - perfected everything i loved about gaming and changed my life forever. Hands down these 3 systems are untouchable in terms of retro gaming and all the amazing games they have
This ^^^ Mega drive and ps1 were my childhood
I would have to throw in the Mega Man Legend franchise for the PSX. Great games.
When I first heard of herc’s adventures I thought it was based on the Disney animated movie Hercules.
I totally had to turn my Ps1 upside down haha. i had 3 ps1's in the 1st year i owned one. luck of the draw. Great console!
Thanks for the time and effort put into your channel guys. I appreciate that you do the lists and games YOU feel like talking about, so it's not like every other game channel. Keep it up and to the few negative commenters here... go make your own videos if you dislike Game Sack so much. Their view counts speak for themselves.
I appreciate that you guys throw in games that you feel deserves more attention.
I'm considering getting Ghost in the Shell, personally.
