Same dude, looked two weeks ago for a red looking setup and couldn’t find any. Such a good setup, but will be upgrading to the atomos monitor and and easy rig.
Finally! I have been looking for a solid rig video that shows the camera usb-c port and monitor being powered by the vmount battery. I have seen so many that use npf for the monitor and/or a dummy battery for the camera. Kind of a stupid question but what cords (usb to usb-c, and DCI) do you recommend that are durable?
Great set-up, I'm working with something similar. How is powering the camera through USB working for you? I've been paranoid about voltage and getting something cheap that'll fry my camera.. I've seen dummy batteries with converters to prevent that, but how does the USB send the right amount of volts? Is it the plate that's converting? Thanks for your help!
Really great, I think this setup is exactly what I am looking for. But i trying to understand what cables there are from the lcd screen to the camera, and what cable there are from the battery to the camera? Please help :-)
Hi Brandon! After 4 years of batteries I finally switched to Vmount with a Sony A7RIII. My question: How do you power the camera from a USB? Is that enough power? Because I've tried but I think I'll have to go with a dummy battery and a DTap
Why is it when I turn my Sony A7III to record in movie mode via 4K with the 4k Assist Lilliput monitor the screen blacks? I would like to see what I'm recording on a bigger monitor but this monitor is not processing the 4K signal ONLY 1080P
Have you been having issues with your plate and battery. For some reason mine is really loose and if I bump the camera the battery and camera turns off. Any help on better securing the plate and battery?
Could I do professional video work with the Sony a7 iii? Really want something to do narrative filmmaking and RUclips content - thinking either the Sony a7 iii or fujifilm x-t3.
Do you have a suggestion for a dtap to LP-E6N battery ? Want to use v mount battery for and eos r rig but I’m not sure what kind of brand faux battery to get
Hi Brandon! Thanks for sharing! I've got a similar setup but looking at the V Battery plate + NP-F to V-mount, because of the NP-F batteries I already have. My question is regarding the follow focus, I have my Wood handle on the left side, as I have GH5 and I like to have my right hand to control the settings and the left to zoom; But the problem is that either way, I'd find awkward to focus. Since you have a similar setup I do, how do you manage to focus manually? I mean, you do have a Sony so that's not a big deal for you, but on the GH5 we go full manual.
Can you still reach the Shutter, Aperture, Iso and REC Buttons while using the side handle? How would you change these settings on the fly if you can't reach them properly?
Yoooo..... You should add the Rosetta adapter handle to the list cause it wasn't on the SmallRig SMALLRIG Right Side Wooden Grip with Rosette Bolt-On Mount - 2083
Brandon Washington so with this set up there isn’t any battery or dummy battery inside the camera? I'm looking for a set up that allows me to use the sony a7III WITHOUT the dummy battery, precisely I would not have inserted any battery, but that it was powered by ONLY a power bank, is it possible?
I have a very similar setup, but had a major issue where my A7iii was suddenly fried. NIGHTMARE. Anyway, I'm wondering about V-mount batteries and the cables: My V-mount battery is a similar size, but 190Wh, and mounts on the same Camvate V-lock plate you use in the video. I use D-tap to a dummy battery for my camera, and I'm careful to use the 7.2v D-tap output to the camera to match the camera battery voltage. I believe I may have accidentally but briefly put the D-tap on upside down before plugging it in correctly, and fried the camera that way, but I'm not sure. Just wondering if anyone else has had any issues with these Amazon V-mount batteries or cables/dummy batteries. My D-tap dummy battery is supposedly made for the A7iii, but I'm concerned that my V-mount battery is giving off too much voltage despite using the V-lock 7.2v output.
Definitely digging that setup. I got cage from Camvate about a month ago and it does make big difference my Canon SL2 is a lighter weight DSLR and coupled with cage and side handle it does make handheld easier and using IS lenses also does too with setup. Will look into that VMount battery because do have external monitor from FeelWorld (MA5) and mostly power it through camera but to bypass that VMount would be better.
Have you had any issues with overheating, with such a robust setup? I'm planning on covering a few summer events that will be exposed to the sun for an extended period of time... Want to make sure if anyone else has had overheating issues with their a7iii's in general, let alone with a setup like this? Thank you for the feedback!
Wow amazing set up mate love it :)
Just bought this entire rig. Thanks man! Just holding off on battery/plate for now. Stoked!
Been watching for a few months your one of the best keep it up brotha!
Thanks man!
Same dude, looked two weeks ago for a red looking setup and couldn’t find any. Such a good setup, but will be upgrading to the atomos monitor and and easy rig.
Great setup.. the “monitor mount”’ is a plus, but the top handle has cold shoe mount for a monitor.
Just built mine, minus the rails, loving it so far thanks for looking out!
Cleanest a7iii setup I've ever seen!
rig looks great, awesome video man!
Thanks brother!
Great custom breakdown Brandon. We can’t wait to see your future rigs 🍻🍻

I went with their 'half-cage' so for weight and accessibility to controls/dials.
Was looking into getting an FS5 because of issues like stability, battery life etc..., but might just have to kit out my A7iii like this
Really great, I think this setup is exactly what I am looking for. But i trying to understand what cables there are from the lcd screen to the camera, and what cable there are from the battery to the camera? Please help :-)
Have you considered a shorter cable to eliminate the need of wrapping it around the top handle?
Hi Brandon! After 4 years of batteries I finally switched to Vmount with a Sony A7RIII. My question: How do you power the camera from a USB? Is that enough power? Because I've tried but I think I'll have to go with a dummy battery and a DTap
With this set up can you plug a rode shotgun mic without changing anything?
Madddddd overkill. I love it
Lol maybe but it gets the job done for sure.
What camera lens are you showing us here. It looks like a good one.
Were'd you get the neon light on the wall from? I've been looking all over but can't really find one.
Any changes you would recommend after that wedding you shot? Loupe maybe?
Where do you get the money for these cameras do you make major motion pictures
been trying to find a setup for mine and I may have to steal this lol. Thank you!
looks sweet, wish using a monitor with sony didnt make you lose face detection
Wooo nice set up. What cable from battery to a7iii?

@Erik Axelsson really? That's all...I will try it when I get hme. Thanks for the reply
@Erik Axelsson I just made it hme. I pulled out the monitor and hooked it up...changed the Proxy Record to off and it worked! 👊
lilartroom I’m having the same problem but turning off proxy recording didn’t work.
@@BaseballKing44 you have the Sony a7iii
lilartroom yes I have the Sony A7III and my monitor is an Aputure
Could you please recommend me a charger for this V Mount Battery? and can i charge it using the SmallRig new adapter?
Great setup and congratulations on hitting 20K!!!
Thanks man I just hit it this morning! Beyond excited.
Have you been having issues with your plate and battery. For some reason mine is really loose and if I bump the camera the battery and camera turns off. Any help on better securing the plate and battery?
Did you have to add a dummy battery for your camera?
Great video! Just wondering how you power your camera? Dummy battery or just cable?
Dummy battery
Thank you bro! And can I ask what brand you have ? So hard to find some good 🙌
Awesome rig mate!
I'm definitely going to look into remaking this! Looks absolutely killer
this is a year old, would you still recommend this rig or have you updated it?
Adam Barefoot it’s always as up to date as your needs are. We have users who still use a6000 cages (which are 6 years old) 👍👍
@@smallrigofficial6732 already got my a7iii rig, the top handle, and side handle!
Adam Barefoot legit! 🥳🥳
@@smallrigofficial6732 wann hook me up with some stuff haha
That VMount plate... the product link says it’s for various Canons. Am I still safe to purchase it for my Sony a7iii??
Yes it’s just a marketing thing.
@@bwashmedia thanks so much. And also thanks to you for the great content you drop man!! I’m always learning from you bruh!!
How do you get your monitor to work while shooting 4K? Mines shows the picture but as soon as I press record, the screen goes black.
Can we attach external monitor while 4k recording??
Coz someone told me external monitor we attach when only HD recording
You can record 4k with monitor like ninja v. That’s the only way to get 4k with a monitor and face tracking, is to record to the monitor.
Good look on this video! I'm basically going to model most of my upcoming first rig off your build. 🔥💯✊🏽
It reminds me of a RED setup. Looks hella dope.
Did Sony fix the overheating issue?
How about setting with manual focus lens?
Love your video! I have a couple SmallRig Cages and out agree they are well built for a good price.
Your link for the monitor is unavailable!
Thank you for such an informative video, quick question did you have any challenges mounting the D&O battery to the V-mount plate? Thank you!
Hey! I was wondering if the Camvate plate would be safe to use with the Sony a6500?
Loved the video fam. Keep pushing.
Could I do professional video work with the Sony a7 iii? Really want something to do narrative filmmaking and RUclips content - thinking either the Sony a7 iii or fujifilm x-t3.
Easily :)
Dangerously close to my XH1 rig! Love my wooden grip! Cheers man!

dude.... so clean!!!
Is it hard to hit record if your hand is always on the wooden handle?
amazon Battery link doesn't work any longer..
This setup is so dope man! keep it up :)
Hai...Brandon..
If we use a monitor or wifi on Sony a 7 iii...we will lose face auto focusing. Do you noticed it ?
Yes that only in 4K. But if you use a monitor that records like a atoms ninja v then you keep 4K and face tracking.
Brandon Washington
Thanks for your info Brandon
Is there a way to use a V mount battery with the Canon M50?
How that Vmount Plate? I heard it can get loose and lose connection a lot is that true for you?
So what do u connect the to the v mount battery 🔋 using d tap n usb port
Can I ask for the weight of this setup? Cause I want to run it on my Ak2000. Many thanks
what about pressing REC? is it easy
Great vid. Are you using a dummy battery connected to the V mount or are you connecting to the camera via USB? Would your set up be the same on a7s2?
Looks like he's using DTAP to USB C
Nice vid bro. I might have to get one for mine
Very helpful. I did subscribe. Keep up the great info.
Great video Brandon! Love the quality of your videos! 💪👌
Does the grip have exposure control?
Thanks brother definitely i ll build mine soon
Can you still reach the Shutter, Aperture, Iso and REC Buttons while using the side handle? How would you change these settings on the fly if you can't reach them properly?
Enough space in between the handle and the rig to still get your hand in there to change settings - especially if you custom map your buttons
This is a great setup man!
so how you controlling your focus and exposure?
Pretty sweet, thanks for the video Brandon.
How long can you record continuously with the Vmount battery
Yoooo..... You should add the Rosetta adapter handle to the list cause it wasn't on the SmallRig

thanks for this bro and congrats on 20k
Excellent presentation!
Update for 2024?
hey brandon! how much overall runtime do you get when feeding camera and monitor off the vmount?
Why is the music do much louder than your talking volume?
What's the total weight of your setup?
Do you use D-Tap to Micro USB or do you use D-Tap to USB C for the power? Also, do you need any special cable to keep the camera from frying?
Looks like he's using D-Tap to USB C
how you hit the record button
How much was the final product? (without the camera body and lens)
I'm pricing this out. I have the cage already but with battery, rods set up, etc you're probably looking at $600
4:46 context is everything 😂
Whats the dummy battery model you are using to power the camera?
I’m using usbC
