I put an audio preamp under the rails and baseplate as well. The on board audio is pretty bad. Things like the Beachtek DXA micro pro plus has XLR, phantom power, and good preamps. Clean sound and doesn't need obscene amounts of gain. It's also WAY cheaper than the Tascam (but the Tascam will handle wireless too). I love how versatile the a7iii is.
All Mirrorless cam cages should have a quick release plate system. Unlike conventional eng and cine cams you want to be able to get them quickly in and out of the cage, for example to put on a gimbal or use for photography and so much more. Cages such as this one will be antiquated in years to come!
I watched the whole video before i comment :P . This is a very nice and enjoyable video to watch but alot of things don't make sense Cory. First there is no reason for the mattbox because that lens or any non cinema lens don't need mattbox, cheaper to buy 1 filter for all (82mm and downrings). Second, the battery life from the A7iii is absolutely crazy. I shoot 2-3 hours 4K video on 1 battery and it never failed on me so the V mount battery is waste of money and weight. Also the USB C or A won't charge your battery's if the camera is on,it may delay the discharge but also destroy your expensive NZ100 batteries. Third, the 15mm rods make sense only if you're going to attach a follow focus ring, manual or an electronic . If i understand correct you are using autofocus with your current setup/lenses. You could get away with only the cage and the monitor. The rig looks good but is not functional. This is not a hate comment,i do like the video alot and your other videos. Although if you are going to do a job with a rig looks big and bulky most likely you will impress your client but not your muscles :P P.S : Subscribed
Bill mattbox is used to hold multiple filters in front of lenses as well as a shade. As I stated in previous comments I tend to use Nd filters along side black pro mist filters. You would use this cage all the time for photography too, because I love how the most robust camera looks and above all I would add the side wooden handle, do you think it is comfortable for photos with that handle more or just with the cage to use it daily, because I was always looking for something to give the sony a7riii more security and before I had in mind those silicone cases that are glued to the body
I would use this setup with the cage only for photography. It provides good grip. I wouldnt recommend any of the handles attached to it though. Hope that helps :)
Great! The front door thing, doesn’t it tilts back easily with longer larger lens? I see a gap between the lens and the front part that has the hood on top, does this gap impacts the lighting?

You want me to compare a cinema rig to a gimbal rig? Two completely different use cases. Benefits of using this rig other then Atomos monitor, unlimited record time, proper exposure controls and focus and the “ looks” , are all day battery life, hot swappable battery, the use of filters, unlimited rigging options for grips, shoulder mount ect. Handle held shots are smoother with the added weights and use of image stabilization. Benefits of gimbal rig are well you can get gimbal shots. You can mount the monitor on the gimbal. Idk yeah they are just used for different things I suppose. I think gimbal shots are way over used today and carefully planned out tripod shots and handheld movement looks better for my line of work.
Hey! Awesome video! Quick question... does the a7iii heat up or have you experienced anything when you use the vmount to usb C to a7iii? I have the same setup with the a7iii and battery grip and the smallrig battery grip cage. If I want to use a dummy battery and insert it to the battery grip I need to unscrew the door latch on the battery grip then plug it to the v-mount. Just wanted to hear your experience. If you have a great experience with it I might just do what you do with the USB C cable.
Hideaki Nomura no issues so far with over heating using the usb c cable. Only problem I’m worried about is over charging my batteries. I haven’t noticed a problem yet but I’m just trying to be cautious.
I am just getting started with video and photo. I can not understand why people use mat boxes? It seems so annoying. Don't they just have filters you can attach/detach easily from your lens?
Great question. Matte Boxes are definitely for very specific group of videographers. There are plenty of cheaper filter systems on the market if you do not wish to mess around with matte boxes. That being said they do still serve a purpose in the film industry. For my use case I wanted to invest in filters that I can use on more expensive lenses in the future. As well as carry over my gear to a proper cinema camera. (which I shoot on now) So if this sounds like you I recommend it. if not save the fuss and get screw on filters. Hope this helps :)

Planning on getting the v mount regardless but I image the set up will be only slightly lighter without the grip and cage for it. Daimn mate, that's an awesome build! What's the next investment?
Sony Fx9 LOL. But for this build I am very happy with. I added a shoulder rig to this recently so now its even more versatile
Does this fit with a 6400
Yes just need a different cage
So dope man
Thank You! I appreciate you checking it out
Cory Mayo I asked a couple questions below that are pretty important to this setup if you could answer them that would be awesome. Thanks.
You could have put in the description of the video the information containing the name and code of the products so that the subscribers of your channel can find the products on the internet more easily ... 😒😒😒😒
Tiago Ribeiro I’m sorry if my video has Inconvenienced you. I tried my best to be as helpful as possible

@@cameranerdsmedia thanks man i appretiate it.
Great video!
Thanks for watching
All that and yet you still have crappy rolling shutter.
Nah
@@cameranerdsmedia Imagine spending tons of money on a camera and cinema rigs only for the end result to have rolling shutter despite having high readout speeds. LMAO. RUclips is plagued with stuttery / jittery garbage footage.
@@380stroker it all depends on the person behind the camera.
@@cameranerdsmedia yes, only to an extent.
@@380stroker name 1 camera that came out when the Sony a7iii did that has better features for the price? This camera will go down in history as the best bang for you dollar at the time. No body even comes close.
In your description I think you mean to say 15 cm rods. Great video nevertheless.
Good eye!
