I missed a prime opportunity here.. I’m looking for someone to make a funny re-edit with all the “that’s what she said” moments in it.. quick and funny supercut. Who’s up for it?! Will feature in a video soon
Hey Chris, I've been watching your journey for a while now. Your videos helped me buy the A7iii, learn all about its settings, buying the Zhiyun Crane, 55mm 1.8 and now my new Tamron 28-75 and keeping up with the latest filmmaking trends. The past year I've been transitioning, starting my new career as a Content Creator. The things I've learned from you have been so valuable as such it helped me get my dream job as a Media Coordinator at Ski Resort in New Zealand. I'll be running and gunning, snapping and filming. Being able to take my kitted camera out knowing I'm protecting it with a SmallRig setup would be one less worry, and let me do the best job I can. Thanks again for all your videos, Marty
If you order this specific item (2238) from smallrig will it fit on most tripods? Does it come with everything you need to mount it on the tripod? Also this is the quick release cage option, correct?
So you have lots of field experience. As you recommend, I picked up the #2238, #1679, #2165, and #2187 for my a7M3. Love it! I own 2 Deity S-Mic 2, one on a boom pole and the other I want to mount to the cage. What's the best location? I'm thinking of using the BSM2368 at either the other top arri hole on the cage or left-side arri hole on #2165. Other options? Advice?
Planning a rig and rigging out my camera still is one of my favourite things to do apart from making films itself ofcourse... Always love to see how people rig their camera, everybody does is a little bit different.
Hey Chris, was wondering, does the arca swiss mount at the bottom of the cage allow you to put longer arca swiss baseplates extending out towards the lens? Cause if it does that would be amazing for throwing onto a gimbal and just keeping the gimbals balancing araca swiss plate attached to the camera
Yes dude! So epic. I’ve been wanting to build a cage for my A7III super similar ever since I got back from shooting at the Winter X Games in January. Would’ve been CLUTCH for the handheld run & gun doc style there. I had a full SmallRig setup for my a6500 back before I sold that whole lot of gear. Awesome company, and great, affordable products like you said.
Literally looking on getting smallrig cage and spent a couple hours researching each model number and you covered all that i was looking for! Awesome video, thank you and goodluck to who wins the giveaway!
Hopped on RUclips today with the idea of getting some inspiration for a handheld rig for my A7iii. You were the first video I watched. EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! Thanks for this.... Not all heroes wear capes my friend. Keep up the great work!
I bought my lego kit about a week ago. It was when I realized my new monitor might be too much for my hotshoe. Didn't want to damage that! Now I can load the monitor, light, remote controller & mic (or wireless mic, depending on the need) all on the camera with no damages!
Informative Video, thank you. But what is the point of building a rig like that instead of buying a gimbal? Is it only the weight and size or does it have some more benefits? Costwise it's more expensive then a Ronin SC Gimbal (327€ Smallrig vs. 319€ Ronin SC).
I have Sony A7S II and this rig would definitely help for making better quality videos. I'm pretty sure the A7 III and A7S II have the same body, but, can you confirm this Chris? Thanks!
The camera sort of slides around though. They need to fix the way the quick release attach so it’s more firm and not so slippery. That’s just my experience
Chris Brockhurst I’m going to try again today and make sure the camera is pushed all the way forward towards the cage so it doesn’t wiggle. But it is true their quick releases don’t stay as snug as the Manfrotto ones. They need to add a little friction
i have a setup similar to yours and when i plug in the hdmi cable from the camera to the monitor (feel world f5) the screen on the camera goes black..is there anyway to stop this from happening?
I don't usually jump at give aways, but I figured, what the heck! Anywhos, I've been following your channel for just shy of a year. It's been really inspiring/motivating watching as your channel has grown! It's also refreshing to have a channel I follow that's not concentrated on flashy technique and crazy expensive rigs. I think I should get the SmallRig gift card because I'll be buying a Sony A6400 out of my tax return this year to chase my 2 year old son around the Louisville Zoo this summer! It's a beast of a camera, but I feel the addition of a cage and some other kit would be a great idea. Because, ya know, toddlers!
Awesome tutorial! After much research and view a lot of reviews, I will be purchasing the A7iii in the next week or two. And will get a SmallRig kit to protect it (will wait till after the drawing now, just in case, Lol). Awesome work, will be subscribing!!!!
wow this video just came in the right time! Yesterday I ordered A7iii and today was actually looking at the rigs on Amazon haha. Thanks fro this Chris :)
I didn't realize that the mount for the cage was arca swiss! Thats's super useful to know, especially for someone like myself who needs to be able to quickly pull the camera out of the cage . Would love to rig out my A7iii!
Just picked up a Sony body to shoot some corporate work this summer, switching all my gear from Nikon to Sony has been a bit pricy. Winning this gift card would help so much, really stoked on this giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity and all the solid content.
Haha never win these, but hey, worth a... shot! Was going to comment either way mate. Love the work you've been putting out. Especially the reviews and encouragement. I work for a non profit serving a pretty broken community torn by a surge in drug trafficking. One part I play is making videos not only to spread awareness, but some fun content for and of the kids that we're involved with. All that to say is that it's crazy how you are effecting a community thousands of miles away. Pretty stellar 🤙🏾 keep it coming
Nice video man, the comp gave me the push to subscribe to you even though I have been watching your videos for a while to help me decided on a camera to help me offer more services for my starting graphic design business. Keep up the good work dude, your videos are of a nice pro quality and give a good range of info.
One of my favorites on RUclips, got the 85mm because of you! Waiting on the tamron 17-28, how do you think that lens will be? Also, entered into the contest!
Great Video! I would love to have a cage for my a7iii to make handling way easier and remove the annoying jittery effect I sometimes get when operating.
I've really been wanting to film a bit more video content and have been contemplating a cage to help mount some various kit to my rig while I am out and about. This would be super awesome!
We would love to win because we just ordered the A7iii TODAY!!! Been binge watching your videos today! we are still wondering what lens we should buy first. So many good choices, but they're all so expensive! Keep up the great work Chris!
Oh yes, I do have a SmallRig list that reads like a SmallWish-list. EightyEight would be MightyGreat! The dice have been rolled. Lol Nice set up Chris!! Rugged and stable! And I like that half cage, the best of both worlds!
First, great video! As an upcoming videographer, this smallrig will be a great addition to my kit. It will be a tremendous help and make me more efficient with the run & gun style I use (since I’m usually shooting by myself).
I just purchased A SmallRig L Bracket for my Sony A7lll, two weeks ago.. I love it!! Great price as well. I'd use the GC to purchase items to build upon what I have, especially the Allen wrench tool.. Great video, Chris!
Having just recently become a dad myself, I'm amazed you've managed to find the time to make this video! 🍼👍🏻 I've been thinking about a small rig set up myself.
Haha thanks Pete. I’ll be honest it’s definitely challenging finding the time but the wife is supportive and I do a lot in the evenings/night when everyone is asleep
Thanks for the video. I recently bought a bunch of small rig stuff but after watching your video i have realised i got the wrong stuff. The quick releae aspects of your rig is what i need! FML
Trying to get new gear for a future camera, looks really useful and effective without breaking the bank, also love how smallrig is makong stuff for newly released cameras and gimbals
The Best use I would do is to make a Car camera rig for my Sony a7iii that can be used inside or outside of the car. Had a great idea and might made a video once I have all the rig equipment!
Looks nice, but I need A good shotgun microphone, and center lock on auto focus- neither of which this rig can provide if I’m shooting 4K. I do dig the little handle though. Your videos are great. Many thanks.
Already been following you and smallrig for a while now, been trying to build up my gear for a while now and would like to have as many options as possible to create the highest video qualities I can using these equipments :)
Love the video!! About to shoot my first wedding, will be switching between a manfrotto monopod and hand held footage. Small rig would be a perfect addition to the hand held footage! Peace!!
I’ve been looking at this gear for my new A7iii for a while now. But after a lens I have to save again. Winning the card would help me out so much. Great review Subbed!
I missed a prime opportunity here.. I’m looking for someone to make a funny re-edit with all the “that’s what she said” moments in it.. quick and funny supercut. Who’s up for it?! Will feature in a video soon
How many videos have you said it in? I may be up for the challenge lol
Literally just a mash up of the ones in this video.. there’s at least 10 lol
Challenge accepted

Thanks again for all your videos,

that's amazing Marty, thank you for sharing. Really love hearing this from people :)
Hi I would like to know the brand of short HDMI cable to mini that is on the video. Plz
Do you like the half cage more then the full? Have you balanced the half cage on a gimbal?
I love the half cage. And yep balances completely fine on my moza air 2!!
Can we attach external monitor while 4k recording??
Coz someone told me external monitor we attach when only HD recording!
Yep, works fine
Hey Chris, I've read tons of reviews saying that the SmallRig full cage doesn't fit properly and wobbles around damaging the camera. Is this true?
There's an allen key inside the wooden grip as well ;-) My a6300 rig is still missing the right hand wooden grip so that coupon would come in handy.
I didnt even catch that!
Great video! Got a question for you.....how are you dealing this no face auto focus after you’ve added a monitor?
Wasn’t until the edit that I realized there are a bazillion opportunities in here for ‘that’s what she said’ 😂
" it can really only go in one way "
" Much Bigger thing to hold"
"
"you can use your fingers"
Could be a fun drinking game actually...
Chris Brockhurst 🤦🏻♀️🤣
If you order this specific item (2238) from smallrig will it fit on most tripods? Does it come with everything you need to mount it on the tripod? Also this is the quick release cage option, correct?
Hi Chris, interested to know what your setup is for weddings? Hand held, with it without rig or gimbal.
So you have lots of field experience. As you recommend, I picked up the #2238, #1679, #2165, and #2187 for my a7M3. Love it! so true!
Can I add a mic to this rig including the monitor, if yes, how can I do it. Thanks again
You have to use the plate it comes with, however you can add another plate to the bottom of the cage and mount that to a
Gimbal!
How much weight does a fully assembled setup have?
Hey Chris, what monitor are you using here? Thanks!
Please, make a video changing fast between weebill and peak design capture. Still didn’t figure how to do it
Where is the link to the tool you are using to tighten your rig?
Yes dude! Literally looking on getting smallrig cage and spent a couple hours researching each model number and you covered all that i was looking for! Awesome video, thank you and goodluck to who wins the giveaway!
Good to hear! I did all the work so you don’t have to haha
What monitors is that/do you have the link?
Hopped on RUclips today with the idea of getting some inspiration for a handheld rig for my A7iii. You were the first video I watched. EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! Thanks for this.... Not all heroes wear capes my friend. Keep up the great work!
does that arca plate fit on the jolby?
I bought my lego kit about a week ago. It was when I realized my new monitor might be too much for my hotshoe. Didn't want to damage that! Now I can load the monitor, light, remote controller & mic (or wireless mic, depending on the need) all on the camera with no damages!
What’s the monitor that you are using?
That’s a feelworld 5 inch one on there
What about audio? I'm trying to figure out how to get the video mic pro on there
Hi Chris my question is I am a photographer do i ever need a camera rig for my A7 III?
I would say it’s up to you.. just for photos though you won’t see any real benefit
@@chrisbrockhurst thanks brother
Is this for videography or photography purposes
YES! Just picked up the a73 and im looking forward to building a cage set up for it as I do with my a6500!
Nice!!! How you liking the a7iii so far?
@@chrisbrockhurst Absolutely love it! I smile at it randomly when i see it sitting on my desk at times haha
if you could only have a smallrig, or a gimbal (ronin sc say), which would you go for ?
depends on what you do and if you want the handheld look or silky smooth
Informative Video, thank you. But what is the point of building a rig like that instead of buying a gimbal? Is it only the weight and size or does it have some more benefits? Costwise it's more expensive then a Ronin SC Gimbal (327€ Smallrig vs. 319€ Ronin SC).
I have Sony A7S II and this rig would definitely help for making better quality videos. I'm pretty sure the A7 III and A7S II have the same body, but, can you confirm this Chris? Thanks!
similar, not identical. if you won you could pick one that works for you though :)
Chris - do you if you can get the a7 III settings to show in the feelworld f6? I can't figure it out...
what is i use a manfrotto tripod can i replace the cage quick release plate
great video was thinking about doing this and now I might just do it now.
I would build out the rig to try the handle for underslung shots. Would be cool for those following shots of someone walking.
Hi Bro, which is better len t& w or kit lens is good, thanks
think there's a typo in there, not sure what you mean?
The camera sort of slides around though. They need to fix the way the quick release attach so it’s more firm and not so slippery. That’s just my experience
Interesting.. mine doesn’t have any movement at all

I don’t, sorry! Only found them on eBay
Thanks Chris and Small Rig! I have the basic Small Rig cage, but I need to fully outfit it. Great ideas in the video!

That quick release to the cage is money! Wish my a6500 cage from smallrig had that!
i know right! on my camera more than anything else!!
Lots of comments here man I hope this giveaway blows up! Best of luck lads
A ton of comments haha, too many to keep a track of and respond to 🙈

I didn't realize that the mount for the cage was arca swiss! Thats's super useful to know, especially for someone like myself who needs to be able to quickly pull the camera out of the cage . Would love to rig out my A7iii!

I'm about to upgrade my 8 year old camera equipment in a few months and a small rig cage would be nice to go with the new equipment.

Buying an a7iii shortly and would love to have some smallrig gear to protect it and allow for creating a filming beast.
I love SmallRig! I use their items on all of my cameras! And that SmallRig tool is a game changer!
I loveeeeee the tool. So useful. Think I need one for each bag haha
I've been looking to add smallrig for my A7iii, I used to own a smallrig cage with wooden grip for A6500, it really enhance the camera.

Used to have small rig fur my a6300, but now I’ve upgraded to A7iii I’d love to have small rig back in my life
haha too true! same here

so.. no mic?
Cool, clean rig. Didn't the wire bother you though? Anyway, great vid...
its the shortest one I could find :(
