Currently looking into shooting handheld like this without a gimbal again, and I just have to say that this was an EXCELLENT hands on/ usability video. Thank you for shooting more than one scenario. A+ video man
and a matte box and some rails and a v mount and or an sdi output or a wireless video transmitter or a hollyland this isnt a rig its just a cam in a cage with a ninja v. also whats the point of a rig tutorial without see the rig build in normal speed
@@johnnythunder8382 Thanks for telling that. Same opinion here. Has nothing to do with TV / Broadcast or cinematic production set ups. I am also a big fan of traditional cam work like shoulder or professional Steadicam. Even the additional light and intercom should be included if we talk about pro production business. Not to forget the inputs for a separate location mixer like the SD 442 (at least). Matte Box is essential for filter use. Oh, I forgot, most "filmmakers" do this in the post. I am happy to get to know the old and traditional routines for my productions. I am really not into this modern stuff.
tilta now makes a handle that has power inside it(lp-6 batteries) has a follow focus wheel on it, and record button... check it out man... it's actually really sick... I can send you a pic of my rig but it's a bit intense now a days.... you are one of the main influencers of my set up but I got rid of the battery because it was annoying to have it. I also added a steadxp+ so I can go hand held all the time but if I want I can make it smooth gimble like later in post...
just a quick tip, I power my nucleus N with the np f battery on my monitor. there are a few npf battery that have a dc 8.4v output and then you have to worry about one battery less :D
I just ordered the cage and handle to shoot weddings. I’m sure I will add a monitor and mic. I am very bad with getting stable shots. I was hoping the added weight would help. Now after you said it might be too heavy for weddings you got me thinking
Austin, I really loved your cinema setup. Loved the beauty of having LUTs on live display.. brilliant!! Not sure if the focus speed can be controlled, based on the scene. I really love the cinematic grading. I think it was a little too far with the saturation. But nevertheless, I was blown away and loved it!! I'm not a fan of the handhelds, gives me dizzys!! I am so keen on seeing this setupwith a gimble, though. So, if you get a chance, please make one. Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks so much!! Glad you enjoyed it. The handheld look is very much my style. When I go on a gimbal I just like to strip it down to just the camera and cage so I can keep it as light as possible
What kind of set up would you recommend for a documentary? I really like the idea of using a small rig with a handle. I'm not worried about the monitor. Also I saw you like the Sony digital shotgun mic. This is the first time I have seen it or heard about it. What would you recommend for a documentary for a on camera mic. I'm on a budget right now of 400 to either get a gimbal and shot gun mic or a small rig cage with a handle like yours and shot gun mic. Thank you
Realy nice rig, I like the compactness of it all. I am to build something similar but I wonder if the Tilta side focus handle could do a better job and slim it down even further. The Tilta handle powers both the monitor and focus motor, it has a built-in finger wheel to control the Nucleus Nano, start/stop for recording and you can even throw in a Samsung T5 SSD. Thanks for your video!
Can you tell me please what kind of equipment you used for the Tilta Nucleus-Nano Wireless Focus Control System, as you mentioned in your video? Would be really nice to make if possible for this Focus Control System maybe an Tutorial Video? So far so good!
love the setup. Im curious why not put the handle on the right side so you can have easy access to the focus pull on the left? Dont you lose stability whenever you want to focus since you are letting go of your main handle?
Quick question: Is there a sort of "docking station" for cameras? I have a lot of things in want to plug into the camera, but Im having an issue where my hand keep hitting some of the stuff I have plugged in as I'm operating the camera I have a handle, but my left hand is still too close to the cords that plug in on that side, causing me to knock some loose or weaken their integrity.
i have a setup similar to yours and when i plug in the hdmi cable from the camera to the monitor (feel world f5) the screen on the camera goes black..is there anyway to stop this from happening?
Hello. Can you record from the nucleus wheel via the multi jack / usb cable from the nucleus to the a7iii? I have tried everything it does not work. We cannot control the recording of the camera from the wheel of the nucleus ....

a7iii battery life is pretty good. Monitor runs on a seperate Sony LP
does the added weight help IBIS or are you stabilization in post?
Hey mate, with what you attached the power bank ?
Car I use this configuration if my lens doesn’t have stabilization?
What's the advantage of using an electronic follow focus right next do the lens? Wouldn't it be better to just use a regular follow focus?
I would say the biggest difference is versatility. Being able to mount it basically wherever you want is really handy!
It's great to transition to gimbal stuff or having a second focus puller.
