voice, cinematic shots, sharing actual personal experience, warmth in colour, stillness and beauty of nature and city, all of that created a beautiful youtube video, and Iphone 15pro as a tool indeed pushes boundaries of mobile filmmaking. Thank you Teo
I am in no way a filmmaker but the way you shot and narrated this video was so good, I watched it all the way through. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done.
Literally just bought an iphone 15 pro yesterday night on ebay, while searching for the best video setup on youtube today and you posted this video! Just cannot believe in the perfect timing thanks for the inspiration!
not only the phone, that grading looks fantastic. --- for fellow Android users, we can use mcpro24fps to capture log footage, it only supports 10 bit in some devices but it can bump the bitrate much beyond the base camera settings. there is also MotionCam, it can use software to encode 10 bit Prores 422 on any phone if the processor can take and allows to film RAW, but it's quite unreliable, at least on my old and worn out Pixel 4.
Teo, how are you so talented? Another awesome video! I'm planning to use my iPhone 15 Pro to create a mini vlog for my trip next week, and your video popped up at just the right time-perfect timing, haha! Thank you for your brilliant content once again!
I literally just turned to this set up as I’m starting to shoot more photography content as well. I came from the 13 Pro Max and now the 16 Pro. Brought it out with me on photowalks and RUclips video shoots and I was amazed at how seamless this just fits my workflow. I’m able to focus more on my frame rather than worrying if someone will run away with my camera. Haha.
I was just influenced to get that case and ND filter for my iPhone! I have a Fujifilm camera but I've noticed that the big lenses make me feel more self conscious when I'm shooting outdoors (or it's simply too heavy) and usually end up filming with my iPhone. So improving my iPhone's setup is something I've been thinking about for a while. Thanks so much for sharing your detailed perspective - and for the beautiful and dreamy shots!
Literally just came back from Japan yesterday and shot everything on the iPhone 15 Pro. Loved the simplicity of just using what’s in my pocket and not carrying around any extra camera. Phone cameras aren’t perfect by any means but the ease of use and quickness to shoot is unmatched. This vid randomly popped up on my feed and now u have me considering getting some filters to up my game lol.
Hey there. I'm in the process of buying an iphone 15 pro myself, but on the fence on whether i should get the pro max. I would go with the pro to keep things more compact, but leaning towards the max for battery life. I also don't think I would use the 5x lens for filming, so it's just about the battery really. In your experience was the 15 pro battery a hinderance? How much where you able to shoot with it in a day and still use your phone as you would normally? thank you! p.s I will be going to Japan for a month at the end of November!
@ Yeoo, honestly the 15 pro battery lasted me most of the day but I did have to charge in the evening before the day was done and while we were still out. This is only cuz we were out the whole day and I was constantly using Google maps, searching stuff online, and ofc shooting a lot of vids with the phones camera, all of which eat battery. Normally I only charge this phone once a day but while travelling it is bumped to 1.5-2 times a day. I’ve always had the regular sized iPhone never the max size mostly because I prefer the “smaller” size and like mentioned in the video, I think the 5x zoom on the max is too much. If you’re used to a bigger phone and want better battery then go for the max. But if u’ve never had a big phone before I’d say go to the store and play around with it a bit before u decide on getting it. The max is a lot bigger and heavier than the regular sized pro. Could be annoying if you’ve never used a phone that big before. I hope you enjoy Japan as much as I did. I just got back last week and the weather was starting to get cooler so make sure u pack accordingly. Although I did pack very light, only a few pairs of everything since I knew I’d be buying clothes while I was there. For example Uniqlo is quite cheaper in Japan than it is where I live so I bought a jacket there for like half of what it costs me at home. Just rmr to have ur passport with you and ask for the tax free checkout. You get 10% off the listed price in a lot of stores. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask.
@@hotsauce0097 Oh, wow! thank you for your detailed and kind answer and for all the tips! Yeah, I'm really excited about the trip. I will also take part in a week collaborative filmmaking event in Tokyo in december and I thought I could shoot my first iphone short. I'm actually coming from a big Redmi phone. The pro max would be very slightly wider and a bit heavier, but shorter. My idea was the exact opposite! to go smaller for once since I've always had big phones... Maybe the whole conundrum can be solved by just carrying a powerbank with me. I always take a rucksack and/or a pouch with me anyways. Again thank you for the answer and I might actually have some other questions!
@ no worries! Just to add on, I did carry around a powerbank with me but also a wall plug adapter thing. Japan uses the same outlets as North America and it was easy to charge when we stopped to eat etc. there are also free charging stations in a lot of places.
This footage looks so good, Teo, really nice! Of course the price of the phone seems a bit wild in my book, I normally buy my phones used and hang on to them for many years, so I guess I'll think about this when this feature is a standard on the cheaper iPhones too. For now I do the infuriating thing of carrying two cameras - with heavier film cameras it will be a little GX80 or Olympus E-M10 III and with the light ones I tend to carry my S5 IIx. The way to make it way less annoying is that I shoot film first and then walk back in the opposite direction and retrace my steps for nicer b-roll. This way I don't have to constantly keep switching from photo to video.
@@LillySchwartz I come from a similar place, I get you☺️ I actually bought this one second hand too haha, though the price was still way higher than what I‘m used to paying for a phone. However in this case I viewed it as much more than a phone, it has now become a video camera that is an essential part of my workflow, which justified it for me🙆 Pheew hang in there! Take care of your neck💪 Technically I’d say that what you’re doing is still the way to get the best results - my method in this video is just a compromise for me to gain convenience🙏✨
Super sweet video! Something that I would suggest to try for your issue with the microphone recording when zoomed in is to turn off stereo recording on the microphone in settings. If you change it to mono I believe it will use the other mics on the camera. Great stuff as always!
Wow, your content is absolutely amazing. You have an incredible knack for both photography and filming. The way you organize and present everything is so impressive. You've genuinely inspired me to dive into photography and filming myself. Plus, your pictures and videos from Japan are just fantastic.
I really enjoyed your video and the look you have achieved on the phone footage. I use the 48mm (2x) lens quite a bit and it’s my understanding that, while it’s a 2x crop, the sensor is big enough so that the digital zoom does not exceed full quality. So it’s the equivalent of an optical zoom. In real world tests, this holds up for me and I don’t see any quality loss at all, even under scrutiny so I’d say use it freely.
Hey Teo, this video is really amazing! Ive bought a iPhone 14 Pro 2 years ago and I was amazed how good the RAW photos are. Your grade in this video looks stunning and really shows what these phones are capable of! It somehow made me a bit jealous that I not waited one more year to upgrade to also get access to the Log feature haha! Maybe I will still try out to stack the filters on top of it as you did, as my main concern in video is the motion blur. But I also think the cinebloom would look really good in photos as well.
Great skills you got! like to mention on black magic you get to choose which codec to use for the footage, and less file size as well, give it try. You will save tons of space.
You could do a challenge and try to do the same with the original iphone.📱It would be interesting to see someone with your talent photograph with such an old smartphone camera.📸
I am using the iPhone 15 Pro max for a while now. It is very convenient to have it as an all-around camera. No need for carrying heavy stuff. I am using the Black Magic Camera app to capture in ProRes. I don't use the native camera for iPhone as we all know, the native camera is a software-driven module. The bokeh, and more are software generated or let say fake, while Black Magic camera app uses whatever iPhone's camera is capable of doing natively. So that is my dilemma, a best quality video isn't captured by iPhone even in ProRes. The iPhone has a very small sensor to begin with. But even so, a nice and neat camera companion to have. Edit: But as they say, the quality of the content is not with the video itself, it's how you tell stories. nice vid overall.
Teo, try a Fjorden Grip! I have an iphone mini and photography with the phone felt very clunky… the grip was a game changer and it feels completely more pleasant to photograph with the iphone.
I just made full circle! I first saw your 'my favourite digital camera' video around 2 months ago and it got me excited to try to get into the hobby again. then as more related videos are being suggested to me, I found out about Apple Log (which I didn't know it existed lol I have the xs) and I've been really craving an iPhone 15 pro ever since! that's all I've been watching lately, and here you are making a video about just that =)
Just got a 16 pro. I'm on the edge of getting a moment case just for those square filters. I could also see myself somehow modding a cinebloom glass over the nd filter or vice versa.
When are you dropping a video editing or travel videography course using just an iPhone? 😅 in all seriousness though-would love to learn and support! Thank you for these high quality videos you continue to bless the community with for free 😄
aside from a really well made video, absolutely gorgeous shots you got 🤩im pleasantly surprised by the iphone 15 and had no idea it had the option to shoot log. i think they should've advertised that more because the iphone 15 (pro) really is a great, convenient package for how small it is. i just thought of the iphone 15 as "another new iphone" but i think it would definitely be an upgrade from my iphone 8😅. amazing video none the less👍.
I have a similar compact setup for filming with my iPhone 15 Pro. As for diffusion filters, I stopped using them when I discovered Video Village's Scatter. It's a professional post-production tool for adding diffusion to your footage. It's not cheap (500 USD for a perpetual indie license), but it's absolutely worth it.
I just watched a couple of your first videos, and gotta say you've improved A LOT! So, keep up the great work, cause it's definitely been paying off 👌🙂
Ah, your footage is beautiful! Your setup is also pretty similar to mine! I use an iPhone 14 with Moment's Camera app, which allows me to shoot in log. I also use Cine-Bloom, the ND filter, and the anamorphic gold flare lens (it's so good).
Really nice man thanks for sharing all those precious feedbacks and techniques of yours! Amazing skills, story telling and of course a beautifull video, no wonder why you thrive on this platform congratulations!
Thanks for the great setup tips! I’m keep thinking if I should buy the new moment square nd filter or the 67mm like your setup. Is there a lot of difference if you don’t stack up 2 filters? (Cinebloom + nd)
Hello Teo . Always been a huge fan of your work ,Thank you for providing such a great videos . Can you make that video again , which is “top 10 cameras under 500$ “ I mean that video is 3-4yrs old . I want to get a beginner camera for which I have been saving for a long time , I have been shooting in my Phone . So can you suggest a camera under 500 for me if you can’t make that video in near future ? My photographic taste is similar to yours . I have my list of Lumix GX80 ( which I cant get in india ) , Sony A6100 ( which I can get nearly 750 with a kit lens ) Thank you for always being here as my inspiration ♥️
Hey Teo! So, since it sounds like you shoot everything in ProRes Log and in the native camera app, not black magic, how do you deal with the large file sizes? It doesn’t sound like you record to an external drive since you’re going for a light setup! Do you try to keep the clips you record short… do you transfer files off your phone regularly to clear up space… do you just pay more for iCloud storage? Something else entirely? Love your work!
Awesome video. Right now I'm doing the opposite - since my iphone is 13 Mini I have pretty much replaced all my iPhone usage with some Micro 4/3 cameras. I use a GM1 with the 20mm for my Take Everywhere Photography Camera and I have a GX80 with the 15mm that I do video and photography with. The only downside is I don't take much "Off The Cuff" video anymore since I mostly carry the GM1 around with me places and I don't use that for video. At some point I will upgrade to an iPhone with a better camera.
Hello hello! Just wanted to ask where you have been at 10:58 - it looks beautiful! Since I will be travelling to Japan in a month, this would be a great place to go :)
great tips and lovely iphone footage! 👌🏽 if you’re using an nd filter and the iphones in camera app, how are you able to tell if you’re shooting at the correct shutter speed at 1/48 or 1/50? i also shoot the same way as you with my iphone but hate how i can’t see the shutter speed. any advice is much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Nice video man ! I'm surrently trying to build a phone setup too so, this vid helps. Sidenote: that's interesting.. Shooting in AUTO-EXPOSURE, and then if need be, just use the VND to crush or open up.. Atleast that's what I'm guessing you do..?
@@shimarinfromyurucamp It‘s really good in my opinion, but not comparable to a camera at least for what I like to do. So it really depends on what you like to shoot, but anything simple is totally fine and you can get some great results👌
Hey @teocrawford, thanks for this vid. I'm in the process of buying an iphone 15 pro myself, but on the fence on whether i should get the pro max. So curious…. If you had to do again, would you go the iPhone 15 route or get a DJI osmo pocket 3? I’ve got an iPhone 14 Pro and have been using it for a couple POV photography videos via a MagSafe mount (i love this and i can just move it to a tiny tripod), but there’s no log shooting and I’d fear running out of space so quickly. Do you feel the 15 would be better than an osmo for most things?
The important question is, does your audience practically can tell the differences or at least care about it? If the answer is no, your audience might interested more in your story, hence might be wiser to spend your money into better sound system, filter, or lighting. Just be careful if using osmo pocket 3 in the heavy rain though.
It all comes down to what exactly you're using it for. You seem to be in front of the camera quite a lot, so the Pocket 3 might just be the best option for you. The Pocket 3 is better suited for vlogging - either purely talking to the camera while walking around, or in combination with static talking shots, PoV and some B-roll (e.g. James Popsys) - all at a single focal length and can't use a variable ND or stack filters with it. A phone is better for filming things around you, especially when you're standing still (like Teo with the iPhone). It gives you the most options in terms of focal length, filters and accessories, but it's not great for PoV, and pretty bad for vlogging. Another option would be an action cam - the best for PoV and good enough for vlogging.
@@Durio_zibethinus I have such a small audience currently, so I have no idea what they would prefer. I think I was more thinking of making the process a little bit easier. I am trying out my GoPro 10 again, it had some warping issues, but I’m going to put that on top of my camera with a cold shoe mount , and then I can get establishing shots and beer role of me shooting with my phone on a mini tripod. I was really worried about the GoPro footage and whether or not it could be more cinematic, but I think I’ve got some ideas on how to make that look better as long as it doesn’t start warping again. Of all the kind of RUclips videos I’ve ever made, POV photography videos have been my absolute favorite. I hope that I can find success in it like Teo has. He seems like a master in sharing his authentic love for photography and he’s been so consistent at posting. I hope that comes out in my videos someday.
Teo, as a professional and expert in your field, I would like to ask for your advice. It is well-known that the cinematic frame rate is 24 fps, but on the iPhone by default, 24 and 25 fps are practically unusable. It feels like it drops frames, and stabilization doesn’t work. At least, that’s my experience with my iPhone 16 Pro. Could you please tell me if I can shoot everything at 60 fps and then export it in a editing program at 24 (or 25) fps? Does the bitrate decrease when you increase the number of frames per second, as is often the case with cameras? Please advise me; I have been looking for information for several days and cannot find a specific answer to my question.
@@Byte_J I use a free Log-conversion LUT from Gamut to make the Log footage look Rec709 and from there I do my usual colour grading process, which is mostly playing around with all the settings haha

I just watched a couple of your first videos, and gotta say you've improved A LOT! So, keep up the great work, cause it's definitely been paying off 👌🙂
i miss taking photos with a proper camera but nothing beats the ease and convenience of shooting with a phone
Damn! Color grading is awesome too!!
I am a new subscriber. I love your color grading . can you share your workflow on colorgrading?
Cool video I liked the polar pro case with the filter attachment and using Blackmagic to select your settings is a life changer.
I’m recording my social media videos with my iPhone 12 mini I’m feel proud, by the way thanks teo.
Thanks for the great setup tips! I’m keep thinking if I should buy the new moment square nd filter or the 67mm like your setup. Is there a lot of difference if you don’t stack up 2 filters? (Cinebloom + nd)
Thank you so much, Teo! I really enjoyed your content! 🎉❤
I have my list of Lumix GX80 ( which I cant get in india ) , Sony A6100 ( which I can get nearly 750 with a kit lens )
Thank you for always being here as my inspiration ♥️
😀Very informative and entertaining. Thank you!
Amazing Teo! Thanks for this insight. I think it's time upgrade my iPhone XS 😅🤣
Beautiful video, thanks for the inspiration 🙌
Man footage looks so dang clean! Audio so good too! I feel your voice in my chest.... that sounds crazy.. but yea great video!! haha
I LOL'd at your “loser” graphic insert.
Excellent...
what a great video - do you shoot exclusively in prores LOG or do you go H265 in log to save storage space?
Hello hello! Just wanted to ask where you have been at 10:58 - it looks beautiful! Since I will be travelling to Japan in a month, this would be a great place to go :)
Great video! Learned a lot from this.
Great video. Thanks! But what are your thoughts on the battery life when shooting with iPhone 15pro? I find that it uses up the battery very fast.
great tips and lovely iphone footage!
What building is that with the people chilling in the large windows up in the sky? Looks amazing!
Probably Tokyo Skytree
Nice video man ! I'm surrently trying to build a phone setup too so, this vid helps. Sidenote: that's interesting.. Shooting in AUTO-EXPOSURE, and then if need be, just use the VND to crush or open up.. Atleast that's what I'm guessing you do..?
Thank you for saving us money!
thanks for making this video! i have an iphone15pro, when you say those 3 different settings, it wasnt the cinematic mode, was it?
Here for the final form
amazing stunning great!!!
enjoyed this video!
This is entirely convincing me to pick one up
Man behind the gun. No, he made the gun a bazooka.
While you used it for filming do you think it takes good photos?
@@shimarinfromyurucamp It‘s really good in my opinion, but not comparable to a camera at least for what I like to do. So it really depends on what you like to shoot, but anything simple is totally fine and you can get some great results👌
Hey @teocrawford, thanks for this vid. I'm in the process of buying an iphone 15 pro myself, but on the fence on whether i should get the pro max. I would go with the pro to keep things more compact, but leaning towards the max for battery life. I also don't think I would use the 5x lens for filming. In your experience was the 15 pro battery a hinderance? How much where you able to shoot with it in a day and still use your phone as you would normally? thank you!
p.s I will be going to Japan for a month at the end of November!
Great vid! What’s the title of the song 0:22 intro? Tried to search it in epidemic sounds but can’t seem to find it.
Same can't find even with the help of shazam
Did you guys found out the title of the song? I want to know too please
same i want the title aswell
Thanks for sharing
Thank you!
Do you think iPhone footage from a 13 pro could look similar to this with the filters you used?
More videos like this bro🥹
I’m probably gonna opt for only the quick lock version of the vnd filter, is there a way to replicate the cinabloom filter physically or digitally?
thats so sick mannnn
I didn't catch it but are you just useing the built in app or maybe Blackmagic app?
Honest question, iPhone 15 pro or iPhone 16 pro?
15 pro
great video
Teo,
as a professional and expert in your field, I would like to ask for your advice.
Do you find that the filters help with the green orbs in night shots?
So when using portrait mode which modes do you recommend ? 1x and 5x only?
@@iDonzzy I don’t use Portrait Mode😅
@ so how do you take photos of a single person ?
@@iDonzzy I don’t use my IPhone for photos… the whole video is about using the IPhone for video🤝
The link to moment lenses doesnt work
Do you have cinematic video vlog that u use Iphone 13 as a camera? pls
can you pinpoint the link for the 67mm moment filter adapter? can't find it anywhere. Thanks & cheers
❤
Do you have LUTs that you use to grade your iPhone LOG videos?
@@Byte_J I use a free Log-conversion LUT from Gamut to make the Log footage look Rec709 and from there I do my usual colour grading process, which is mostly playing around with all the settings haha
