Anyway, idk how old you are. I just think it's cool to come across people that were experiencing the same thing that I was at the same time.

I think Marilyn Manson is the most important artist of the 90s and 00s, and the last great and TRUE rockstar. Younger generations just can’t fathom what his presence in the world through those times did for people, positively and negatively. When he was public enemy number one. The quality of albums he put out, the stage show, the dichotomy of his reserved demeanor in person and his on stage antics. He really was just the most interesting dude and was so incredibly important to my childhood and formidable years. Long live Marilyn Manson. I hope he makes music for years to come.

I think after the golden age album, his spark went to shit. I have been a fan since The Spooky Kids was still a part of the name. His top 3 LPs to me have changed as I got older (43) but AntiChrist Svperstar was always first. 2. Portrait loved the production. 3 was Holywood for the longest time, but as much as I hated Mechanical in 98, it took 20 years to really appreciate the structure of it.

I never gave him a chance during his prime time in the 90s due to the over-sensationalized media. I stopped watching the news over a decade ago. I happened to hear 'The Beautiful People back in 2013 & I couldn't get it out of my head.
Going through rough times & suddenly decided to look into him further & found out how smart he is; very well read.
I went on to discover several other songs I instantly loved & related to & watched 90s concerts online & was so mad I missed the chance to see a show back then.
Then I suddenly saw he was on a tour & he was going to be in my area one night only-on my birthday-just 2 months after discovering his music & who he really was.
I couldn't talk anyone into going to see the show with me so then I just bought a ticket to go alone.
Sadly I never did get to see him as I arrived late- he was headlining & not wanting to stand alone during the opening act which I felt some kind of fear about-Still never listened to their music.
Since then I tried 3 other times over the next 2 years to see him-I missed the second show when going by myself again-I blamed myself the first two times but when it happened 2 more times I realized maybe it just wasn't meant to be & maybe I don't know enough about him.
Fast forward to mid 2021 & I just discovered Nine Inch Nails & felt the same way & then found out the songs I loved by Marilyn Manson were from collaborations with Trent Reznor when he signed Marilyn Manson to his label.
Turns out I really love Nine Inch Nails & a similar thing happened in 2022-a chance to see them live a few weeks before my birthday but it was 900 miles away & No car & not much money. I still managed to get my ticket & get 900 miles to that overpriced music festival but it was a traumatic trip-Took days-I never slept & was delirious & terrified of trip back home. 9 days awake.
I just got to the show while headliners-Nine Inch Nails-were halfway into their set but just getting to see what I did see was the best live concert ever. I just wish I was given another chance to see them & see them fully.
I still love those songs by Marilyn Manson but I know his shows now are not like seeing him in his prime.
Yet Trent Reznor puts on such an amazing show EVERY TIME-even 35 years later & I love every song I ever hear & relate to his music so much.
I don't think it was good for Trent when they toured together & am so glad he got clean & is living his best life.
I am also so happy for Marilyn Manson that ERW didn't destroy him as she tried to with her lies.
Anyway-I felt the need to comment. I know it's long but that's my truth & what I wanted to share.
Music really is therapeutic. It literally saves lives. I don't understand why there isn't a form of music therapy instead of people always having pharma pressed onto them-trying to numb people's minds-We can do that ourselves-We dont need g×v3rne√t doing that to us ....
Wake up everybody. Bless us all.

Agree! "New Model No. 15" basically tells the story of social media influencers and instagram models. It's the same story, different setting and that's what makes Manson's music timeless. Sure, certain references are dated ("oh look you're like a VCR, stick something in to know just who you are") but it all still applies to today and one could argue it is more relevant today than it was back in 98.

I used to worship Manson when I was a teenager almost 20 years ago. I used read everything about him from Nachtkabarett. Then he fell off the wagon after The Golden Age Of Grotesque and I listened to him less and less. Eventually I completely forgot him as I started listening different kind of music. Now his recent return and great live performances made me want to see how he is doing nowadays and he's surprisingly very great. Now I've been listening to Manson for almost a week just like when I was a teenager and I love to revisit these ideas on his albums. Thank you for making this video, more people need to see this so they understand that Manson is more than just make up and weird behavior and his music is much more subtle, multilayered and deep behind the catchy riffs and what seems like simple lyrics.

He was the art director for the Long Hard Road Out of Hell music video. ) His book Posthuman has a section called "the Manson Files" it has some killer art of Manson that is basically computer graphics of his old rock magazine posters and the photos are computer graphically altered with Joachims physical art.

This is a well made analysis and you put a lot of work on it. I need to start by complimenting your work.
One issue I have though, with anything that tries to tie a proper storyline going through all three albums, is that it’s quite clear that Manson just made it up as he went along. When Mechanical Animals came out, there’s dozens of interviews of him saying that that album was the result of what happens after Antichrist Superstar. He never once mentioned back in 98/99 that Mechanical Animals actually took place before Antichrist Superstar. That was a retcon that he did during the Holy Wood promo cycle. I remember clearly me and many fans who followed closely noticing that 180º back at the time.
So trying to tie things too neatly in the backward album release order will not work so cleanly. In Holy Wood he sprinkled some things to make it seem like it all had been planned from the start (like Born Again supposedly having been recorded back in 97), but it’s just for show. Which I don’t think necessarily diminishes the power of these albums, but I just wouldn’t go out of my way trying to find a perfect storyline between them. Maybe if Manson had ever come out with the Holy Wood novel we’d have seen better how things could connect, but that never happened (and I suspect that it may be because he either never finished it or it was plainly just not very good - after all if the issue was truly just that no one would publish it he could have just released the damn thing on his website).
These albums are connected thematically in many ways. And Holy Wood in particular retells part of the stories of both Mechanical Animals and Antichrist Superstar, in condensed form. I’d look at them more in that way rather than a single continuous storyline that goes from album to album.
Totally tangential, but I think it’s a bit similar to trying to come up with a Legend of Zelda timeline that makes sense across all the games. It’s clear that Nintendo just makes stuff up as they go along, throwing a few references to past works here and there, and the same goes for Manson.
And don’t get me wrong, these are still 3 of my favorite albums ever. With Mechanical Animals on the very top, as the record of my life.

I like your theory on the triptych, thank you for sharing! You put a lot of thought into this. The recent teaser of new music put out by Manson does throw a monkey wrench into the theory though...
In the teaser there is: an apple, a key, what appears to be tarot cards, a man being built and then that man breathing in an oxygen mask symbolizing resuscitation/resurrection. Adam is being reborn, "Born Again" if you will. With this new revelation, "Born Again" was never meant to be about Adam morphing into the Alpha and Omega of the Mechanical Animals... "I'll put down your disco, take it all away. I'll be born again". Adam foretells of his demise and eventual return. The most disco song on Mechanical Animals is "The Last Day on Earth"; "We'll be together as the planet dies... we'll never say goodbye" again proclaiming Adam will be back and he will be stronger than ever. The lyrics in the teaser are "Keep sleeping on me, you dream of me", I take this to mean society is shifting, Adam's ideals are being more widely accepted without society realizing. They dream of a different world not realizing it's Adam who will bring it. Which brings me to The Antichrist Superstar. The worm was never the Antichrist Superstar. Adam is. Adam is the one who will bring the end of the world as we know it. The worm starts out as a weakling, no identity of his own. The worm latches onto Adam's beliefs and not only adopts them as his own but becomes a false prophet in Holy Wood similar to preachers and cult leaders who proclaim God speaks through them because the weakling worm wants power. The album is full of the worms projections hidden beneath Adam's redirect. It starts out with the worm angry at the world and bashing those who claim to be victims because they did it to themselves, turning into a rockstar, proclaiming himself to be the antichrist superstar but then reverting back to his true form, the weak worm, by the end and dying. As Adam had said "You'll never grow up to be a big rockstar, celebrated victim of your fame" by the end the worm was a celebrated victim of his fame. Mr. Superstar was a projection come reality, it tells of the worm loving Adam so much he wanted to be just like him. He accomplished it but it turns out it wasn't what he thought it would be, "I never wanted any of this" because not only was the worm the insane fan, he is now the one with insane fans who love him so much, they'll destroy him just like Adam was destroyed. I could go on and on but this comment is already too long haha But basically Adam is the true Antichrist, the true bringer of the end of the world. The worm was just a nobody trying to be somebody and it backfired. Thanks again for your breakdown, I did thoroughly enjoy it!

And just to add to my theory because your video inspired me to go through the three albums again... in "Coma Black" Adam sings "This was never my world, you took the angel away. I'll kill myself to make everybody pay"
The worm in "Man That You Fear" sings "I have it all and I have no choice but to, I'll make everyone pay and you will see"... it just further has me convinced that my theory is true.

    • @WickedWitchOfOz1
      @WickedWitchOfOz1 2 месяца назад

@@TheLaunchPadStudio agree, we won't know until the album is released. I have a strong feeling it is connected though based on the easter eggs Manson loves to leave, like the "Adam 5" on the Mechanical Animals cover, the "Coma" etched into a white pill on the CD which I take was Adam's choice to try to numb the pain of his lost love but just like her, it failed. Or that coma isn't a woman at all, but rather a piece of Adam. Just like Eve came from Adam in the bible. In this universe it makes sense that Coma wasn't a person but a personality. Without Adam's full personality he feels empty, he can't face life. So if we believe Adam is a new model, meant to fix the "mistakes" (defiance and hate) of original Adam in Holy Wood, created in God's image (alpha and omega) then it makes sense that it's the drugs that keep Adam complacent like an omega but he still can't forget (the alpha, all knowing being) his other half, the part that makes him whole. The appearance of Omega itself is androgynous.. it further pushes my latter theory of "her" aka Coma being Adam as well. Just like the tarot cards in Holywood... the imagery does matter.
But again, I enjoyed every minute of your video, I enjoyed seeing someone else's perspective on this and your theory is a great one with solid links.

    Interview bits that caught my attention somewhat more than others: 3:37 - a mockery of controversy * 11:38 - adding gas to the fire * 14:18 - rituals for the insecure * 15:44 - "There is.. greater powers in nature, but you work with them; you don't serve them." * 22:57 - on the American Dream * 25:35 - the enjoyable lie * 26:47 - using what you criticize * 28:25 - teacher-student relationship * 31:45 - the subtlety of MA * 32:47 - drugs as a metaphor * 34:37 - ACSS: cold & mechanical * 36:13 - scary and hopeless * 38:20 - MA as a record about spirituality (MM finding his soul) * 39:36 - "Little Brothers" * 42:48 - abuse of liberation * 43:31 - Coma White and wholeness

    Ladies and Gentlemen.
This is the creation of a masterpiece.
Marilyn Manson is a fusion of two arts - One ensures that it reaches those who cannot see, and the other for those who cannot hear. It is an experience through hearing and sight.
Those who can see and hear, will ensure this confusion, however, as long as it is discussed, is the key to bringing a work of art to life.
This is about Music just as much as it is for an Image about some Portrait of a world we are served to live in, created by ideologies, and it isn't much less than anything more you can imagine.
We can talk about new ideology; we have Marilyn Manson. He created it, and he is more than successful in that.
    PS:
2:08:18, that's the worm we see in the new music video As Sick As the Secrets Within. Many Easter eggs are in it. How about of a story of his comeback this year, could you do it? Nothing that Manson does is random. This shit should be aired on TV. You match the voice for a documentary.

I have listened to multiple genres of music over my life and one thing no matter the type one must listen to the lyrics and what the artist is trying to say. I think in real life he is a Christian, but yes he was rebeling against religion and now that hes much older has circled back. Maybe needed to find the right path in his own way like most all of us. No one should have religion forced on them, being tought what it is and choosing to believe in God comes from within. I am Christian and believe in God, have been saved and want to get into heaven because I chose to not told to. I am 43 and it took me until my 30's to really accept God into my heart.

I think Portrait was an exceptional album and I still listen to it today, I also liked the first EP. Antichrist was mediocre and I didn't care about any of their (his) output after that. When I was in the fifth grade I was a fan, I remember printing B&W Marilyn Manson logos from Prodigy dial-up and glueing them to my notebook. My Aunt was a huge fan and she headed the NY chapter of the "Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids" fan club. Marilyn Manson called her and ended up talking to my grandma (RIP) for few minutes on the phone. A fun tidbit of family trivia occasionally brought up at Thanksgiving.

I'm not a fan of Manson's later work, but his triptych trilogy and Golden Age of Grotesque were his best albums in my opinion. After that, I just stopped listening to him, because his newer music didn't have the weight it once did, but I always wondered. After everything that has been going on lately, especially with what has happened to Manson in his personal life over the last couple of years. Would he be inspired to write another great concept album? I hope so and I hope he calls his new concept album Antichrist Superstar Second Coming if he ever does make another one.

Care to elaborate? Since your comment exists here, what tricks did MM convey to the world to instill an illusion of depth?
Hes an artist... His lyrics exist, yes? His music (art) is open for interpretation. That IS the essence of art/music. What it means to you isn't what it means to me, and vice versa.
Marilyn Manson as a whole was to induce provocation. If you look past the make up, or the ambiguity, physically, and listen to what he has to say or listen to his music, he is almost always exposing the world's hypocrisy.

I think that the comparison to Alice Cooper is way off. Other than having a vague similar "dark" look, it really stops there.
Mansons music is very different, his lyrics are much more poetic and the entire collective of his music has an in depth look both at society and a reflection of the artist himself.
I don't think he gets the credit he really deserves for what his presence has changed not just the genre, but music and the world itself.

@@michaelpolo6117 Oh, for the most part I just meant he was influenced - which there's nothing wrong with (Pogo's synth work in particular on Antichrist Superstar & Mechanical Animals was a big influence on my own music, even). That said, if you watch videos of Ogre from Skinny Puppy stilt walking back in the 80s, it does look almost identical to Manson stilt walking in the Antichrist Superstar days (even the overall look beyond the stilts). Not criticizing Manson for it, but the influence is super clear.

      @TheLokiBiz 18 дней назад

@@Godloveszaza At least my comment was coherent lol. And have you seen videos of Ogre stilt walking? - it's bloody identical (it's not just "a walk" - it's the entire outfit, walking on massive stilts on stage with giant crutches and a headset etc.) . I'm pretty sure Manson has even spoke about the influence he took from Skinny Puppy - I know Trent Reznor has (Trent himself has called NIN's "Down In It" a ripoff of Skinny Puppy's "Dig It", but I still love both songs lol), and Trent Reznor basically shaped Manson's entire early career until they split post-Antichrist. Anyhow, keep being weird and irrationally angry lol.

One thing I don't quite understand is the connection between "The Worm" and "Adam / Omega." I assume they are separate entities, but some claim that "Tourniquet" is about an attempt at recreating "Coma." So is "The Worm" a re-incarnation of Adam? Or is this considered a Trilogy just due to it taking place in the same timeline? I feel Antichrist Superstar is completely separate from the other two albums.

Before watching: the idea of these albums forming one story always confused me, but when I began to think of it in a non-linear fashion, it made more sense.
Each album makes sense individually; but to me, HW is the overarching story, with ACSS and MA expanding on concepts within it. HW is ultimately about a person trying to change the world but instead becoming changed by it and turning to despair. ACSS expands on the act of trying to change the world, and then lashing out when it fails; MA is about the point in the story when you are corrupted by the world you tried to change. I think Manson was, in a way, predicting that his messages would fall on deaf ears, and that he would eventually be corrupted by fame.
I think one could re-organize all 51 (or, 53, if you prefer) tracks into a more conventionally linear narrative. Perhaps I'll sit down and do that sometime.
