It marvels me as to how Damon can change the pitch of his voice so amazingly, one moment he's singing falsetto and the next he can make his voice so deep
I was listening to Heavy Seas of Love for the first time the other day and I was struck by this exact thought! It’s something else, unexpected really as I’ve heard him sing as 2D more than as himself, the shift from the falsetto was like a revelation.
I always thought that, on certain songs, Damon Albarn channeled David Bowie, consciously or otherwise, vocally, and probably never more so than on parts of this song. Not that that's a bad thing or anything, of course, and he still managed to have his own sound simultaneously.
This is blurs best song, hands down. Got me through so much in the past. When I first got a rare cancer and my world collapsed, this song kept me on my toes for my kids. ❤
It's my daughter's 10th Birthday today. This is her song, I remember singing it to her when she was a baby and I sang it to her this morning, in tears. The moment ten years ago my wasted life became meaningful and I found Love
This is why I love blur, they release many cleverly produced albums. All of these not only flirt with many music styles, but also appeal to fans of lo-fi, psychedelia, electronica, gospel as well as fans of indie rock.
There was always that question, "Blur or Oasis"?, they even made a joke out of it in the series Father Ted Blur is the obvious answer... Oasis were decent, but Blur could easily do multiple genres at a time, and were way ahead of Oasis
Over 20 years later and this is still a timeless classic! I put this song on a "mix tape/cd" for my at the time girlfriend and we decide it would be our song. 20 years later she is my wife and it is still OUR song. Thank you Blur for the memories.
This song is special to me, while my wife was pregnant I played to my unborn daughter, she is now 2 years old... She's watching this with me, she is just smiling...
I think this is their best album.. There was something really magical about this album.. there is a lot of awesome Alt Rock from 1999/early 2000 that is completely forgotten about... This is one of them
Everything in this clip is tender. The music, the musicians, the backing vocals ... Everything. My favorite song from this great brit pop band from the 90s.
I remember when I was going through a bad break up with my first wife. We put this brand new song on and just held each other 😢😢 we couldn’t save our marriage but she still has a place in my heart.
Hello - hope you won't mind me replying to your comment here. I'm making a podcast/documentary about this song for BBC Radio 4 and I'm gathering stories of what it means to different people. Could I possibly send you an email with a bit more info?
'As soon as they started singing (the choir), it was instantly and obviously a number one record. I'd never been so certain of anything. It was the best thing we'd ever done. Oh man it's 02.26 am and i'm watching this instead of sleeping.I loveeeee this song so much, i once met a guy who visited my office, he had a position at the main branch, he and other employees (including me) talked casually and just joke around when he accidentally said "Is that your boyfriend on your wallpaper" i said "yes, it's my bf, Damon Albarn from Blur", and you know what, turned out he was Blur's fan, then we shared so much about old songs, i should've come home at 04:30 pm, but that conversation made me go home at 07:00 pm. Then we became best friend ever since, until something happened and he resigned from the job.Never heard of him anymore. The words that touched me the most after watching the scene on Sex Ed, the words - Come on Come on Come on get through it , was like an advice to Ruby, Someone who vulnerably showed her side to Otis but couldn't get what she wanted. Such a great selection of a song !
Chill I think they lol be back together in s4, even that she got hurt i think that Otis deserve a second chance, but first he have to deal with Maeve’s feelings, be she will go to US and I think this will provide the time and space necessary for him to solve whatever it’s on his mind and heart
I've seen a lot live, just good old rock and roll, but these guys....they nailed it.....I love layers, dimensions, I'm not a musician, but this song has depth. Wonderful.
this song brings me to tears, years ago my husband was obsessed with this song first time I heard this song again since he died, now I realized why he knew that he had something wrong and this song he said made him face the journey he was facing
David Rowntree may not be the best technical drummer, but he's pretty creative with getting exactly the sound he wants, which is really much more important than funky beats and insane fills.
I don't think people know what 'technical' means. He's extremely measured and precise as a drummer. That, to me is a 'technical' drummer. Your whole comment is an oxymoron. Keith Moon wasn't a 'technical' drummer.
Same with coxon. Not a technical shred Lord, but one of the most inventive and creative guitarists there’s been I think. You can hear him on anything and instantly know who it is.
Dave never gets the attention he deserves...songs like Music is My Radar, 1992 (and Sing, same thing), French Song and Song 2 are my fav from his work..what about you? (oh there was On My Way to The Club too, but it was a programmed drum machine so..)
I've noticed that Damon and Graham are facing each other while playing "Tender" and singing their respective parts to each other. Despite barely functioning as friends, band mates and while using substances(Damon-heroin, Graham-alcohol)at that time, they made great music together then and they make great music together now.
one of their best moments. I know i'm late but i agree that is wonderful to see Graham Coxon laughing so hard he has to stop singing for a few seconds. The only time i saw Blur in concert is still one of my best gigs.
All those memories of being in Ruby's end of that call... When it is the perfect moment to say I love you... Yet it goes unrequited... Such great writing...❤️❤️❤️
So I was 13 when this was released in the 90s, and we listened to a lot, it was one of the coolest songs back then. I just rediscovered it 22 years later and now I realize how brilliant it is.
Got up today with the song playing in my head. Haven't heard it for like 25 years now? It's one of the better morning soundtracks of mine. Wish music of todays was more like it used to be then.
god i cant even remeber how long ago but this was the first video of blur my dad had shown me. I got completely obsessed and from that day on music had taken over my whole life such a beautiful song
HOLY CRAP. I was seriously just about to reply what you talking about man, this just came... out... Because, you know, compared to all the old Blur, this is "new Blur"... Not that new anymore. Holy shit time does fly.
When this showed up in Aftersun I smiled like never before, you rarely get a Blur song in a film. This is only the second movie I've seen that features a song from them.
Perfect song to play in the background as Callum told Sophie about not feeling quite himself anymore in a place that used to be home. What's the first movie you saw with Blur in it?
Just been through one of the most incredibly difficult stages of my life, this song was all i could think about. Thank you Damon and thank You Blur. You and your entourage are massive inspiration and have had a huge impact on me over the years. Keep doing what you're doing, your music speaks to me on such a personal level and i couldn't live without it.
Just found this song again and remember playing this song everyday for two weeks straight years ago. "Waiting for that feeling" ... Found that feeling again, too.
0:34 brightens up my day. This blend of intriguing guitar and mellow beats, is perfect. Great opening to 13. This might not be everybody's cup of tea but the lovely, thought through lyrics completes this already brilliant song. Could honestly go on forever. With the extra people singing and the oohs as Damon sings Loves the greatest thing just makes this an enjoyable time and a feel good bop.
This song is sad. I feel Damon’s pain and heartbreak. He truly loved the person he was with before but it ended. He was trying to get through his pain and trying to find a way to reconcile but it never worked and was too late
So many years have passed, I feel chills down my spine every single time I listen to this song. May God bless this guys, this will be our first dance at our wedding ❤️
Tomorrow is now.... a proper musically mesmerising genre bending Blur song about how the emotions/memories of love can change all of us in uniquely different ways.
Vim depois de Aftersun e por incrível que pareça essa música estava perdida na minha memória e vendo o filme encontrei a música e me veio muitas memórias boas da época que acordava cedo pra ir pra escola e ela estava passando na MTV Brasil
Blur’s “More Than Words” moment - even extending to the black and white video. In both cases it’s like a glimpse into a jam session; the essence of the band.👌🏻
I sang to both this video and Landon Pigg’s Falling in love at a coffeeshop wholeheartedly in my room when I was single, a few months later met my husband in a coffeeshop 😂 It was 8 years ago, this song was the turning point of my life. This is not just a song, it’s a prayer.
I remember being a kid and thinking this is number 1 wtf?! As a man I get it now. Thank you blur, your catalogue is continuing to impress me as I go through it at my leisure
Loved it the first time I heard it. Let me tell you something man... If you do not own a pair of very expensive studio worthy headphones, or a banging iPod dock... Make the necessary simple sacrifices needed to get both. This is medicine everybody. Crank this outstanding beautiful song man. Thank you blur, and the girls doing backup vocals. Lift me up. Lift you up.
I love this song. I used to listen to this song every day laying in my bed at rehab when I was feeling depressed. Thank you, Blur. I love you Damon your music has been a huge part of my life.. especially Gorillaz.
I saw the beginnin of oasis and blur (42), but dont worry dude, music is timeless, dont have regrets, just enjoy your musical taste. I love The beatles, i was not born when they sang, but, my father made me listen to them, and thanks to that I listen today bands like blur oasis arctic monkeys...ect...and many other musical styles. ( watch my playlists). Nice post, Peace
I bought 13, and didn't know what to expect because I've never heard a Blur album, and this was the first track. I was confused, but now it's so amazing.
This song is like a prayer, a prayer for love. Sensitive, painfully honest, beautiful.

exactly what i think!!!
agreed
I've noticed that Damon and Graham are facing each other while playing "Tender" and singing their respective parts to each other. Despite barely functioning as friends, band mates and while using substances(Damon-heroin, Graham-alcohol)at that time, they made great music together then and they make great music together now.
Tasha Johnson-Lemjidi They have been friends since school
Damon drank too
they are bessie m8s
Name one great musician that was sober
Amo a este grupo , que Dios siempre los proteja
Graham coxon underrated guitarist , plays some lovely melodies
one of their best moments. I know i'm late but i agree that is wonderful to see Graham Coxon laughing so hard he has to stop singing for a few seconds. The only time i saw Blur in concert is still one of my best gigs.
On this day, 25 years ago, it was released this soultouching song. I love you Blur
How could I underrate such a deep and melodious song throughout all these years.
4:40 Makes me feel happy. 😀😀
Met a girl yesterday, she told me this song. Im beyond words how I feel. Thank you K
Love this song, it has that feeling of an hymn from the sixties....
I got completely obsessed and from that day on music had taken over my whole life
such a beautiful song
Bless the 90s and the sound of gospel forever.
I so love it when genres come together so perfectly. This is so timeless
I hadn't heard this in 17 years - had forgotten how much I loved this tune back in the day!
HOLY CRAP. I was seriously just about to reply what you talking about man, this just came... out... Because, you know, compared to all the old Blur, this is "new Blur"... Not that new anymore. Holy shit time does fly.
It's not *that* new blur though, seven years after Leisure, not that long. This still came out in the 90s, actually!
yeah I know what you mean. Last time I looked it was 1994......
RoasterMcdougalify 1999
"Tender is the touch of someone that you love too much"
Ti amo Cate
That moment when you found a long lost music you love from when you were 14 years old...
...and that moment when you realize how many years have passed and suddenly you feel old...
kumppi ...and that moment you struggle finding real good music now.
Antonio Schenale ...and that moment when you realize that you won't have to wait very long, as the new album drops in a week or two.
Just found this song again and remember playing this song everyday for two weeks straight years ago. "Waiting for that feeling" ... Found that feeling again, too.
cept i was more like 34 myself.
Perfect. A moment in time. Genius. A song that transcends, race, colour, creed and religion. What more can anyone ask for? ❤
This kinds of song is one of those tune that you don't want to end...I can play this song forever!
Every song Blur is so different. Like they can write a hit in every genre. Mad talent.

Ruby: I love you
Otis: Thats nice
this song has been stuck in my head the whole day but i've been avoiding listening to it because i knew it would make me cry
BIG SAME
It doesn’t get old! I loved this song when I was 20 and in a few days I have my 40th Bday and I’m still listening to this
The song where Ruby tells Otis that she loves him and Otis replies... Oh, that's nice !!!
Ruby was mean but this song is special !
This song is sad. I feel Damon’s pain and heartbreak. He truly loved the person he was with before but it ended. He was trying to get through his pain and trying to find a way to reconcile but it never worked and was too late
Justine?
@@angelicavega2132 Yeah
Who needs Justine when you've got Graham smiling at you that way at 04:39?
This song is like every song, you can interpret it however you want, I agree with the first commenter who almost 1,000 side with 🤷🏽♂️
@@KennLauGraham wrote the verse that is why he is smiling
Вы понимаете насколько Это прекрасно???Вы понимаете 😘😁😁😁😁 Декабрь 2024!!!Спасибо ❤️❤️❤️
this is one of very few songs that transcends genres. I love my blues music but this track is a must on any playlist
So many years have passed, I feel chills down my spine every single time I listen to this song. May God bless this guys, this will be our first dance at our wedding ❤️
*THESE guys
@@fellamilad Typing error. Sorry.
Tomorrow is now.... a proper musically mesmerising genre bending Blur song about how the emotions/memories of love can change all of us in uniquely different ways.
Probably my favorite Blur song and a phenomenal needle-drop in Aftersun.
2023 still love every bit of this song .
Graham's vocals absolutely DEVOURED in this
Tender is the touch of someone that you love too much... Great line 👌💕
I watched the movie Aftersun yesterday and was knocked of my feet by this song!
great movie aftersun
Alex playing a stand up, double bass, legend and underrated as a musician
This song is timeless...! we all need some more tenderness. thank you, Blur
Blur’s “More Than Words” moment - even extending to the black and white video. In both cases it’s like a glimpse into a jam session; the essence of the band.👌🏻
I love this song! The backing singer's are amazing too! ❤
Damon singing "love's the greatest thing" is indeed the greatest thing
I sang to both this video and Landon Pigg’s Falling in love at a coffeeshop wholeheartedly in my room when I was single, a few months later met my husband in a coffeeshop 😂 It was 8 years ago, this song was the turning point of my life.
This is not just a song, it’s a prayer.
I remember being a kid and thinking this is number 1 wtf?! As a man I get it now. Thank you blur, your catalogue is continuing to impress me as I go through it at my leisure
Damon is very into the song while Graham is having a laugh, love these boys!
This is the lullaby my mum sang me as a kid when I was crying so much I couldn’t breathe. Always calmed me down x
Saw Blur for the first time in 1999 touring this album in Buenos Aires and they opened their set with this song, something I will never forget ❤️
I find this song as the greatest song that i've ever heard, i really love their harmonic voices
The vocals and music blend together beautifully in this emotion stirring/emotive Tender song by Blur.
I love this song. I used to listen to this song every day laying in my bed at rehab when I was feeling depressed. Thank you, Blur. I love you Damon your music has been a huge part of my life.. especially Gorillaz.
I feel sad that there was a time that I didn't know this song existed
X2
TRUE.
Just found it today after you know liking blur for 10 years...jee I'm slow
I first heard it on a movie called _Southland Tales_ (same guy who directed _Donnie Darko_ so yes, it's weird)
That riff and the “oh my baby” part is incredible
After all these years, Tender can still send shivers down my spine.
