I don't really know. Maybe nothing.
Sometimes songs can be about something specific, even if the lyrics are buried in analogy, but sometimes lyrics can just be words and phrases that don't really mean anything, but just sort of conjure a feeling.
Even the repeated chorus line _'Every me and every you',_ if you think about it, doesn't really make sense in either a grammatical syntax way or even conversationally. If someone said that to me I wouldn't know what they meant. What do you mean _'every'_ me? There's only one of me, I think. Are you saying there's a clone of me somewhere? WHAT??
So yeah, doesn't make sense. Still works as a chorus. The song means whatever you feel like it means.

the first time i listened to this song, i just loved to predict the lyrics. It's like poetry, i love how every word just comes together to rhyme with the next sentence. Miriam Diedrich I think I did see Velvet Goldmine, however thanks for reminding me about it because if it's the movie I'm thinking of its been quite awhile since I last saw it. I'm definitely going to check it out again. I like those movies that are kind of based in non-fiction but don't stick rigidly to reality. Party Monster was a good example, with McCulloully Culkin about the whole Limelight club scene and the beginnings of the New York rave movement. There's also a good one about New Order as well but I can't think of the film's name at the moment.
