the most indisputable fact about this video is it’s either the first take or their 1001st take.
they did like 15 takes, getting more and more drunk each time, but this was actually their last which means they were probably wasted
I'd say it's their 4th take. BTW Name one rock band these days who put out a live performance as their official music video. :D

Oh, it turns me off
When I feel left out"
So I, I turned 'round
Oh, baby, don't care no more
I know this for sure
I'm walking out that door
Well, I've been in town for just 'bout fifteen, oh, minutes now
And baby, I feel so down

The strokes said in an interview back in 2001 that they wanted to create music that will last many years. Here we are 13 years later and this music sounds better than it did the day it came out.
+Daniel Jasso, try The Airborne Toxic Event, I think you might like them.
Also, if you haven't already, give Green Day a listen. Not for everyone, but if you like The Strokes you might like them. I was born in '64, I can relate.
+Daniel Jasso, plenty of darkness in Green Day. One of my favorite is Bab's Uvula Who? #1, my name. #2, my life. #3 I 'm a respiratory therapist.
And people always lose the fact that "Good Riddance" isn't a love song.
+Daniel Jasso, what do you mean by psychedelic bands? I do and always have listened to a wide range of music . But The Strokes have said The Velvet Underground was a big influence. Julian says The Doors were a big eye opener for him.
This is TMI, but Jim Morrison and Julian Casablancas, hhhmmmm...naked. Singing. Rock and roll HEAVEN.
Yeah, Mikel Jollett and Noah Harmon can join in. I'm a sick woman.
If that were true, they would have stopped making albums after Room on Fire.
This video might look just simply, but it has a lot of little things that makes it so special.like the mycrophone falling down into Valensi, Julian drunk pushing everyone... etc. Love it

I heard this song in mid-2006, my father was at the bar having some alcoholic drinks and I was in the car, it was around 4 in the morning, I remember that I leaned down on the steering wheel of the car because I was waiting for him. Anyway, this Casablanca song played at the the car radio and I listened to it in my solitude, while my father was at the bar haha. A few days later I bought a STROKES shirt, I never stopped being a fan of the guys. I LOVE JULIAN
He's eyes are emotionless yet I haven't felt anything more passionate

Does anyone else notice how Albert pushes with his back one of the drum mics at 2:15, how Fabrizio smiles, how Albert tries to pick it up and how his guitar stops to sound?
+Germán Cruz The sound stops from his guitar because this is an actual performance going on. The drums also sound different after the mic is knocked out of place if you listen closely

+Germán Cruz I really like how they didn't decide to redo the performance because of that. XD
They didn't give a shiz.
Those of us who grew up with The Strokes and bands before them know and appreciate the rawness of music!!! This is pure gold!!!!
I love how all of this is done live. You can see the shenanigans' effects on the sound. At 2:15, Albert knocked over the mic, so he turned around and I tried to grab it, meaning his guitar part was absent during that sequence. Another is at 2:31, Fabrizio pushed both of the microphones recording his drum so his drum sound got significantly reduced. Oh I love all these little things. Really shows that the attitude of the artist and their live playing capabilities. Please give us another album to cherish!
The Mad Man nigga this is almost 2 decades old. They can’t recreate a sound as good as this they tried and failed that’s why there’s no longer any stokes

Gosh it's almost like the Who or something except without actual chaos. : ) But a couple mic stands got knocked over! omg!
this is actually the most boring video i've ever seen. nobody seems to want to be there, especially the lead singer. he's doing the most unconvincing, unemotional lip synching whilst throwing a small tantrum. the band at least seem to want to look like their playing, even if they aren't in to it. to be fair to them, it looks exhausting to have to be in a room with the singer constantly.
Heard them when they first came out, changed my life, saw them live in an arena with 1200 people in London for the first time in 2002. Still listen to them daily now. When I first heard them I was a single guy. Taking my 18 year old daughter to the festival they're doing in London in August. 😂

When I was 15 I went on a trip to Amsterdam with a mate and his family who were from there. One day as we were trying to sneak into some coffee shops we saw a guy holding a map and talking on the phone who looked just like Albert Hammond Jr. So we were standing there in the middle of a busy shopping street, pointing, wondering if it was really him as we waited for him to hang up. Suddenly someone tapped me on my shoulder and said, "Hey kid, you should get his autograph, it's him". I replied that I thought so too and then a split second later realised it was actually Julian! I didn't have any paper, only those big rizla rolling papers, so he signed that for me. I said great show and he wrote "to Rachel". We laughed about it and then he signed another. Good memories :)

When The Strokes looked like they were close to having actual Strokes... but still recorded this absolute classic!
SO I.... I TURNED AROUUUUUUND!
Who is here in October 2020 and are excited to see the Strokes play this Weekend on Saturday Night Live?
I can't wait to see them together again. After all these Covid months, it's going to be great to see this band play live again!🤘
For those who don't know this, Albert recently announced it on this Twitter account.🙂
I just watched them on " Saturday Night Live " ! They were GREAT !
@@deborahwilk1367 yeah, I loved seeing them again. It looks like they are all growing their hair out again. Fab pretty much looked the same. But the sides of Julian's hair is growing out, it looks like Nick maybe growing his back some and Albert definitely has some hair growing in the back too.
I loved the sort of dueling guitars between Nick and Albert on 'The Adults Are Talking.' To me, the guys looked great and they look much younger than they actually are.
I love those guys like they are my long lost brothers. Lol. They are about 10 years younger than me. So they'd be my little brothers.😉
@@deborahwilk1367 yeah, he was wearing a trench coat and his name is Julian Casablancas.😎
@Ely R eh, if he's not joking than he's just being an ass.
I love them and thats why I'm here.... when I heard they were going to be on Saturday night live i was so happy!!! His voice.. the sound of the band 🤟🤟🤘🤘
The Strokes' early albums are so timeless due to their deceptive simplicity and candor, both in songwriting and production. You have to remember that at the time _Is This It_ came out, Nü Metal was at its absolute peak, with bands like Linkin Park and Papa Roach thriving in all their maximalist, Wagnerian loudness. The Strokes' ability to bring sophisticated harmonic chord patterns, charismatic lyricism and dynamics, and evocative, intimate imagery to their music was nothing short of a *stroke of genius. All of which were done so masterfully with no fluff and no filler; just smart, seemingly insouciant, minimalist guitar pop, appearing out of nowhere. It was such a welcome respite from the compressed, shredded noise that dominated the airwaves and the reason The Strokes' appeal continues to today.
Linkin park is the only nu metal band I can respect but these strokes guys take the cake of anything early 2000s my god
I think a lot of the strokes guitar is a lot more complex than it sounds really. There is just a pretty high degree of talent all around in that band.
@@swaginator5077 that’s bs. You’re probably only saying that because you haven’t listened to another nu metal bands. For me, Slipknot is at the top (but still linkin park are amazing)
@@swaginator5077 what about deftones?
thumbs up for "Wagnerian loudness." Definitely the most erudite assessment of nu metal I've read to date.
You know what the world could really use right now? A fresh band that brings that same kind of magic The Strokes delivered when they first came onto the scene. We need a band that's unafraid to experiment with sound, and create a unique style that becomes iconic. It wasn't just about the music; it was about their attitude, their authenticity. The only band that has given me the same feeling in recent years has been The Doublejumps, which is a band from my home country New Zealand (I live in Australia now). Sooo wish I could see them and The Strokes live one day 😎
Fontaines DC ?
I have heard a lot of people compare the lead singer of Car Seat Headrest's delivery style to The Strokes ! Both are two of my favourite bands, so would highly recommend giving them a listen !

Albert bumped into the mic stand. Tried to adjust the mic stand. Fabrizio finally added it into the beat while simultaneously resolving the problem haha
Damn you have very low standards on drummers lol
The right people in the right place at the right moment with motivation and precision.
"Last Nite"
Last night she said,
"Oh, baby, I feel so down.
Oh it turns me off,
When I feel left out."
So I, I turn 'round,
"Oh, baby, don't care no more.
I know this for sure,
I'm walkin' out that door."
Well, I've been in town for just about fifteen minutes now
And baby, I feel so down
And I don't know why
I keep walkin' for miles
See, people they don't understand
No, girlfriends, they can't understand
Your grandsons, they won't understand
On top of this, I ain't ever gonna understand...
Last night she said,
"Oh, baby, don't feel so down.
Oh, it turns me off,
When I feel left out."
So I, I turn 'round:
"Oh, baby, gonna be alright."
It was a great big lie
'Cause I left that night, yeah
Oh, people they don't understand
No, girlfriends, they don't understand
In spaceships, they won't understand
And me, I ain't ever gonna understand...
Last night she said,
"Oh, baby, I feel so down.
See, it turns me off,
When I feel left out."
So I, I turn 'round:
"Oh, little girl, I don't care no more.
I know this for sure,
I'm walking out that door," yeah

It's hard how to quantify how much I love the Strokes songs. An awesome catalogue of great songs, I am thankful
As a kid, I remember being off-put by the fact that they chose to record this live instead of using the album audio. All these years later, I firmly believe that every band should do it like this.
The first time I saw this video I was in awe of how good this song was

no it didn't
That is the power of rock, my friend. When you saw this and your life changed, it is because you've experienced the spirit of rock which has called upon you. Rock on, brother, rock on.
Same here, except that I was 22 😋
Same. I was 22 when this came out.
When I saw the video for the first time, I asked my father what band it was, thinking the strokes were from the 70's? Told him that punk rock sounds very mellow and, he said "oh yeah I remember listening to them back in the day". LOL
