literally what the song is about
don't even try it they beat you to it
Franz Ferdinand took inspiration for their name from a racehorse called "The Archduke Ferdinand." After seeing the horse race on TV they began to discuss Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whose assassination triggered World War I. They decided it would be a good band name because of its sound and the implications of the Archduke's death.
The song compares lovers to snipers aiming at each other. The lyrics begin, "So if you're lonely, you know I'm here waiting for you. I'm just a cross hair, I'm just a shot away from you." Alex Kapranos told NME it's about how you'd, "rather be shot than continue the tension."

People out here saying that the opening to the song is better than the rest of song as a whole. In my opinion, the song wouldn't be half as memorable if it was just the opening. The song's main riff is just so infectious...
Yeah, it it just such a foot tapper.
This song literally just flooded my memories from 2000s, at first I thought this was the same song as the Quagmkre Toilet meme and that was the beginning of this song then I remembered that was a separate song from my 2000's kid memories. But yeah the mid Is what made me remember and find this song
Yeah, the intro is never the part I find myself humming at 4am on a Monday
AGREED
I literally sought this song out knowing ONLY that main riff. I have heard the opening so many times and never made the connection before the channel was changed, so when I finally heard the whole thing by accident one day, it was quite the revelation... and the facepalm. Totally worth it!
This absolute gem randomly popped into my head and it gave me the biggest smile man good memories

We need more bands like this today.
We have The Struts.
the way this incarnation of Franz Ferdinand burst into the scene as a complete artistic package, audio-visual, was incredible. especially the first couple records, and the way they presented themselves in that era had so much intention and drive. I'm mentioning this because most bands these days, roughly 20 years later, don't even come close. this revival moment had a joyful ire about critiquing the looming digital sensory overload age (this is pre iphone), via constant allusions to analog visual aesthetics yet in a way that poked fun back on itself which is perhaps what made them loveable rather than just pretentious. early Franz Ferdinand was a rare mystical artistic accident that celebrated humor and playfulness somehow mixed with a gothic sensibility and darkness, delivered with a heart warming sincerity. they were facetious enough to call the venue they played at the Chateau, while wearing eyeliner and singing about being served on a platter.. miss this time now looking back, but in a way I'm happy that they evolved and kept their journey going, songs like this though remain in the time capsule that is youtube as relics of a weirdly hopeful but unhinged time that was the post 9-11 aughts..

Still my favorite part of the song 🤤
17 years ago, on the first day of Architecture school, the professor welcomed us with this song on full blast in the lecture theatre and I immediately knew I was in good company. I dropped out of Arch school and went to work in order to feed my young family; but the burning desire to design and to create is like a shimmering coal fire that keeps getting hotter as time goes on.
Pink Floyd's High Hopes, New Order's Elegia, Poets of the Fall's Carnival of Rust, and this song ... kept me going through my darkest days. They fed the soul, and kept the fire burning.
If you're going through depression please remember it's temporary; take that first step; there's always a fire in you.
That transition is true perfect; I can’t resist cranking the volume up when this song plays.

This was their biggest hit, and it was their debut single! It was so popular, it was featured on the Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 17 compilation album. I swear, that was probably the first time that anyone's been introduced to this band. I believe Franz Ferdinand also had another single on the Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 20, which was released one year later. Therefore, they had not one, but two songs featured on the NOW compilation albums. Switchfoot and Relient K also had two of their singles featured on the NOW compilations at that time.
That's how I first heard them. I loved the NOW That's What I Call Music CDs.
"This fire" was also a big hit, with the serie "cyberpunk edgerunner" making of it it's main theme
This song was used in a Sony PSP commercial, which is where a LOT of people know it from. Their other big song from this album, "This Fire" was made immortal by the game Burnout 3 Takedown.

Frozono max franz Ferdinand was the man whose assassination by Gavrilo Princip in 1914 Bosnia Herzegovina started the First World War. It’s ironic because he - Franz Ferdinand - was in fact “taken out” so the band - Franz Ferdinand - making a song called “Take Me Out” is almost like a nod towards his assassination.

I like especially how in the transition the guitarist hits the strings so hard and with such abandon that the tonic power chord takes on a major quality despite this song being very much in minor all the way through. It may have been a mistake, or maybe it's just distorted overtones, but I love the fact that nobody went "oh but this is wrong" and they just kept it in - so genuine, so raw :)
I like how you just explained to me what minor is without meaning to. Now I know the difference.
Are you talking about the bit at 0:53? That's a good spot! Sounds a bit like a Cobain chord, i.e., a power chord where they've accidentally played the major third on the B string as well. Definitely helps it sound raw and awesome.

The riff to this song has been etched into my brain for years without me knowing the song or artist. Glad I finally found it so I can slap this into my playlists
influencia argentina de SODA STEREO ................. escuchar musica "NO EXISTES"
yeeeess, I used to love it from Guitar Hero, but I was 7 or so. Last year i found them out again, and God, I'm in love with practically every song of them!
It's wholesale lifted from The Gone Jackals - Not Buried Deep Enough from 1995. Now you know.
A mí me pasó lo mismo, 3 años la estuve buscando :"(
@@annakareninacamara6580 Guitar Hero gave us so much great music
I remember when I first heard this, i was blown away. Awesome job kings. Cheers.

Una de las mejores bandas de los 2000
This music video is so creative.
I love both parts of the song, but tbh I wish the intro was longer...
They can make a whole song outta the into
seriously tho the beginning part is so damn good. I wish it was it’s own song
Emerson Fleming Interpol is the band you’re looking for then, also in general look up bands part of the genre post punk

Música boa nao envelhece! ❤
Many steps above average, a jam with some artistic video too.
*this smells like the 2000's*
Smells like the 1910's you mean :>

Perolinha This song came out in 2004. 10’s is way off lol.

I have never heard this song before, but somehow it sounds nostalgic, like I’ve always known it.
It’s interesting how a lot of music from this time period evokes that feeling within us
I entirely relate
That's Ten Years Gone was for me
you play guitar hero during childhood?
@@tardis022 hell yeah! Guitar Hero was my saviour as a child!

The change in a tempo that melts into the guitar riff..i mean goddammit how bloody great is that?!!

Wow you must be young! Enjoy your journey into the classics
I remember vividly being 15 years old when this came out. Me and my parents were on vacation and I had them stop at a store so I could buy it because I loved this song so much. I ended up loving the entire album and listening to it on my Walkman (LOL) the entire vacation. Ahhh memories. Still one of my all time favorite albums!
Woah u must be over a hundred years old. Tell us more about ww1

This song definitely brings me back to my early highschool years
When I'm going through the comment sections of songs on RUclips, I see people talking about the music obviously, but nobody ever talks about the music video it seems. The music video can really add to the song and I think this is a great example. I think this is one of the best music videos; just the aesthetic and visuals are so creative and cool.
Agreed. Seems to be a mix of late Victorian and early Soviet aesthetics.
Considering what this song is about and the band's name, that makes sense
its about Bauhaus
I think it's a true testament to the quality of the song that people aren't talking about the incredible video.
@@nicotv6932Russian Constructivist , Dada , Victorian , and yes Bauhaus and it's a very very well collage ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
