The fact that TRIGGER omitted the "Burn this city!" part is such a damned good piece of narrative. You can try and burn the city (Night City) but instead you'll be the one being burned. You can't burn hell.
I actually find it a shitty choice, since the famous quote from Keanu was literally "we have a city to burn" and it carries the hype for the franchise until it's release

As others have pointed out, you cant really burn Night City to the ground. Not even Silverhand was able to burn the city down, and he wasnt the first to try. Everyone who ever tries to burn the city down gets burned themselves eventually.
Besides Davids goal wasnt really to burn the city down anyway in Edgerunners, but to survive and keep on running and Night City burned him instead..In that regard "burn it down" could also be a reference to David himself as Night City wears him down no matter how fast he runs and his cybernetics ruin his body....
And/or it could simply just be edited that way for brevity and to flow better for the intro lol

First time I heard this song was on burnout 3 in 2014, and now I'm listening to it in 2022 on cyberpunk edgerunners, I'm really glad this song is still being recognized.

I grew up listening to Franz Ferdinand since kid, I remembered recommending this band to my friends who watched animes and were fans of a Japanese band The Oral Cigarettes (which I was quite familiar with their early alternative/post-punk sound).

It's curious that there are some words in russian in that video, here is what I can see:
0:15 you can see the word ПИВО on the wall - that means BEER
0:41 IПОУЕУНЫЙ ПИРОГ (top-left): The first word is a set of random letters, there is no such word in russian language. Maybe this one is from another slavic language. But the second one is russian, ПИРОГ means PIE

When I'm going through the comment sections of songs on RUclips, I see people talking about the music obviously, but nobody ever talks about the music video it seems. The music video can really add to the song and I think this is a great example. I think this is one of the best music videos; just the aesthetic and visuals are so creative and cool.

For a time, Franz Ferdinand was the king.

really show that no one stand a chance to night city
While others found this wonder of a song and band through Burnout 3 and Edgerunners, I found it through a novel. And we're all bloody wonderful for that. The novel is called "Perfect Run" for those that want to take a read. It's fucking wonderful.

I remember listening to this song when I was in elementary school. My dad would drive me to speech therapy everyday after school and always have the radio on. Sometimes this song would play in the radio and I was always excited whenever it came on! It was so catchy af! I lost my shit when I heard it being the op song for Cyberpunk Edgerunners! It brought back so many memories!

They even just delete "this city" from the lyrics in the Cyberpunk opening because you can't burn the city. It burns you down instead.

besides Edgerunner, this song's in Burnout Revenge, a racing game of mad destruction and street racing in super speed that's highly regarded by the racing community, as much as Need For Speed Most Wanted 2005. So yea, you might really wanna bench press a car with this music.

Davids sacrifice was telegraphed since the first episode

Not the first Franz Ferdinand song I've heard used in an anime (I remember one of their songs used as the ED for Paradise Kiss, which I watched as a teenager), but it makes for a surprisingly great anime opening and I'm glad more people are getting introduced to the band from Cyberpunk Edgerunners. I honestly hope for anime use older songs or songs from other countries, since they're almost always make for good or at least interesting OPs/EDs.

I love Franz Ferdinand so much dude lmao. I'm glad they reworked this from their first try on the album. Everything about it feels... incendiary. The cymbals, the chords, the long screeches in the background. It's definitely a song about burning, literally and sexually.
FF really are not talked about nearly enough. Not only did both Daft Punk and Justice remix their tracks, but their music is used in two different anime series now. FF and The White Stripes are like the two names that come to mind when I think of the post-punk revival era.

I never got into Franz Ferdinand, so I was surprised to find out this is an original song and wasn’t created specifically for Edgerunners. It fits so well.
This album came out when I was 24. This song and Take Me Out were perfection! I'd love to see a resurgence of post-punk revival garage style bands. I miss this genre. The Killers, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes and Franz.... The chef's kiss!
