This album is a fucking classic. I don’t think I know of a band that managed to put out a classic album 20 years in, without completely reinventing their sound. What an incredible band The Strokes.
I'm new to the strokes... Working my way through the catalogue of masterpieces... Don't know how I missed this incredible band and they're works of genius... Also what a great community of fans ! Thanks for welcoming me to the gang! 👏✌️🤘
The most meaningful part of this video for me wouldn't be how they are celebrating their single victory against the machines, but how the machines simply turn off after the game ends.To them it's just a task they were programed to do, then flipping the switch. No celebration, no emotion, no joy. Something that will forever be a trait exclusive to Humanity.
for me it has to do more with the fact that the machine could not be perfect for they were able to score one point. In addition, I think that it also that about morale and how a natural situation can be a boost for humans to have some sense of hope.
to me it seems like especially at the beginning of realizing his defeat, some sadness. looking downwards in defeat (maybe even that cant comprehend that happened). could make some allegories out of that one
Not really. We don't yet know how the human brain works, but once AI becomes so advanced that an AI is indistinguishable from a human (Turing test), you will not be able to know whether it "feels" differently to a human.
This album was really a beam of light in the rock music industry. To be in the business for over 20 years and still release an album of that quality is insane. Have never seen that from the rock bands of the 2000's.
Watching this video it made me hope that they have a long career, like The Rolling Stones. On that end, I think they should take as much time between records as they want to, as long as they keep knocking it out of the park like they have been.
@@LylaRox yeah I liked Angles a lot, and I really liked Comedown Machine even though fans were kind of mixed about it. I thought it was so different from their other stuff. One Way Trigger is insanely catchy
It's the literal meaning of "if you are losing the only way of winning is scoring." every point scored is a point leading victory. It is surely something to be cheered! especially if you are playing with your band against ROBOTS made to only play baseball. lol
don't think it was their intention but I also imagined a scenario where they were playing for the fate of the world or something and they only needed to score one point to save the planet.
I feel like it’s no coincidence I played this song to cope when I was replaced on my varsity sports team. Only now, a year later, I realize that was the intention of the song this whole time in the music video. I don’t know how to explain it, it’s just amazing that music can elicit the same meaning despite being different people.

The choking up on the bat was just a beautiful little tribute to baseball. I’m glad to see someone who knows baseball worked on the production of this video. For those who don’t know, batters will choke up (or put their grip higher up) on the bay to increase their quickness to the ball. This is usually done in tense situations, as while you are choked up on the bat you reduce the amount of weight you will be hitting the ball with, therefore reducing power, however increasing your ability to make contact. In tense situations, it’s best to make small increments of improvement rather than trying to fix the problem all at once. This is a wonderful song and a music video that was crafted with love. Thanks for listening to this baseball nerd ramble on ;)
Julian's ig post: this guy above, in a strange way on a strange level it's what many strive for being good at everything, and having no emotion, no sadness no pain no fear but the problem is then you don't have the good things and we must realize it's more fun to be human than to be a bad-ass calculator
"What was the inspiration behind this video?" Albert: "A song about the Mets needs a baseball themed video.... guys, this is for Ode to the Mets right?" Nick: "I don't know, I just wanted to party at the end. I was also supposed to punch Fab but Julian took my role" Nikolai: "Julian's idea, he asked me to be the model for the cgi robot and I think I did a pretty good job" Julian: "We live in a society" Fab: "I like wii sports"

Finally got the meaning of this video after hundred hours of view. It is actually a contest between robot and human. If human can just get ONE point, the overlord robots will back down from their occupation hence why u can see after they scored one point, the robot turned off. Thanks for reading a nerd explanation.

This video is so great. Such a perfect representation of the song. Basically, celebrate any and all victories you can achieve against the machine that is our present reality. It takes a cleansing (the rain delay) and an error (the bean ball on Jules) on the machine’s part to score a win, but when those stars align, embrace and cherish the moment my friends.
it's an interestesting point, a beaning is not necessarily an error if it's deliberate...and the robot is uh robot...and has intentional robot face prior to beaning...think it was in the ribs or gut...that's intentional purpose pitch and he doesnt get out of way because he's crowding plate or looking away...It's interesting focus.

I just like that bass cleff baseball cap.
This video scare the shit out of me
to me it seems like especially at the beginning of realizing his defeat, some sadness. looking downwards in defeat (maybe even that cant comprehend that happened). could make some allegories out of that one

Have never seen that from the rock bands of the 2000's.
rick rubin
Watching this video it made me hope that they have a long career, like The Rolling Stones.
On that end, I think they should take as much time between records as they want to, as long as they keep knocking it out of the park like they have been.

Rick Rubin gives the old bands a reason to live on. He brings the best out of them :)

I love this video. The idea of being defeated numerous times and just winning once but celebrating it as if you’ve won the game is just awesome
I think the idea of the video is against all odds everything stacked against they were still able to score 1 point against the machines,
It's the literal meaning of "if you are losing the only way of winning is scoring." every point scored is a point leading victory. It is surely something to be cheered!
especially if you are playing with your band against ROBOTS made to only play baseball. lol
don't think it was their intention but I also imagined a scenario where they were playing for the fate of the world or something and they only needed to score one point to save the planet.
Hi I Recommend an indie song called 'The Bond Villain' by Robert Nix
@@dasdaro This. Then playing against something nearing perfection just being able to score once is a huge feat. This is our future.
