"Drums please, Fab?" And the whole world changes forever.
what's a life without a beat or rhythm?
I love that that phrase
Pretty wonderfull!
"Drums please fab" - and the whole world turns to orange tang. Evangelion reference
it probably doesn't make any sense, but I understood this part as a reference to the industrial revolution with the first cars. Creating this world change
"What do you want for Christmas?"
"Drums please, dad"
[][][same but this song called " time by the impures " is a great track to listen to and chill out
He say "drums please fab" cause the drummer's name is fabrizio

When this album released, I legitimately thought it was the end for me. I had genuinely thought I wasn’t gonna live to 21. I wanted this to be my last song. Then my mom got back into the Strokes, and that’s when I started the association that this song wasn’t my end, but a beginning. It’s still a struggle but I’m getting better. Stay safe out there.
U good bro
U got this man. I know how it feels. Give it time. Do what u can do each day. Little steps, little wins, you got this shit. I’m proud of you
Glad you’re still here ❤️
God that’s so beautiful man. Crazy just a shift in a mindset is all really is needed. Life is a journey, never a destination ❤️
Stay strong you're doing great already 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

i cannot describe the feeling this song gives me. Julian seems to painfully feel every word until he reaches the emotional climax on the last verse, and then the song ends with a vague sense of hope. this man is truly a living legend, an icon of our times.
His lyrics are underrated.
And the voice…..
All of the sudden so deep and powerful 💔
I'm not an emotional guy, but after hearing this after a bad week I wept from the feeling it gave me. Never got that from a strokes song so I instantly knew it was special.
Hope? I can only feel melancholy listening to this
Chill man
My best friend died in a tragic motorcycle accident three days ago and this was the last song he asked me to listen to. Now I'm here drowning in tears in every line and thinking that maybe it was his way of saying goodbye, repeating a thousand times, I needed you there, I needed you there but I didn't know, I didn't know😢
that's tragic. i wish you the best, man.

You're forgetting "Restart". It's the point of the whole thing...
That’s what being a Mets fan feels like
I can't imagine a better way to finish "The New Abnormal", definitely one of the best songs on the album. The Strokes saved 2020
Honestly, one of the best songs in their discography
I like how he begins with life being a game, suffocates us in the history of OUR world, transitions to the drowning of human life, and ends with our accomplishment of space only to restart the 'game' of life for the next species to pick up (whomever or whatever may be.) Beautiful video. Sidenote; that outro is the saddest visual/audio clip I have ever witnessed. So happy in the moment of incredible loneliness. Much like the world around us in our darkest hour. The 11th.

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more.

I feel like Julian really put his heart out in this album. The whole band did. The ending of this song is so beautiful, he sings it with some sort of a heartbroken, but hopeful feeling.
This is definitely the best strokes album since Room on Fire, imo. It's just so consistently good.
you should check out the live version of Ode to Mets, the way he sings at the end is incredible.
The boys are back!!
"heartbroken, but hopeful" pretty much sums up that classic strokes sound for me personally lol
I love this album so much!!😭😭
Lyrics:
Up on his horse, up on his horse
Not gonna wake up here anymore
Listen one time, it's not the truth
It's just a story, I tell to you
Easy to say, easy to do
But it's not easy, well, maybe for you
Hope that you find it, hope that it's good
Hope that you read it, think that you should
Cuts you some slack as he sits back
Sizes you up, plans his attack
Ah-da-da
Drums please, Fab
And I got it all, I got it all
Waiting for me down on the street
But now you gotta do somethin' special for me
I'm gonna say what's on my mind
Then I'll walk out, then I'll feel fine
Yeah, I'm under his thumb, I'm on his back
I will not show my teeth too quick
I needed you there, I needed you there
But I didn't know, I didn't know
Go alone
I'll go alone
We'll go alone
I'll go alone
Back from his trip, he's at the door
When he gets back, he's on the phone
Innocent eye, innocent heart
No, it's not wrong, but it's not right
Innocent time out on his own
Not got gonna do that, I'm out of control
I was just bored playin' the guitar
Learned all your tricks, wasn't too hard
It's the last one now, I can promise you that
I'm gonna find out the truth when I get back
Gone now are the old times
Forgotten, time to hold on the railing
The Rubik's cube isn't solving for us
Old friends, long forgotten
The old ways at the bottom
Of the ocean now has swallowed
The only thing that's left
Is us, so pardon the silence
That you're hearing is turning
Into a deafening, painful, shameful roar
THANK YOU BRO
Thx 💯

this is, in my opinion, one of the greatest songs ever written and recorded. To think they wrote it some 10 or 15 years after their "heyday" and then proceeded to win awards for the album. It is just incredibly beautiful and creative and altogether moving.

I think it’s fair enough to say that this is the best song from this band and probably one of the best rock songs of the last decade.
Ode To The Mets is without a doubt, his magnum opus.
I'd say selfless gives ode to the mets a run for its money
Its going for "epic song" though so it will always wins in best song battles. Songs like Is This It or the Modern Age are not trying to be magnum opus's but are great in ways that this songs can never measure against. Effortlessly cool. Casual. Ode To The Mets is constructed, crafted, produced... you can feel that it has a lot of thought behind it.
Its like a Led Zeppelin song battle between Going To California and Achilles Last Stand. Pointless. Still love it all though
Best music video too

Wow. This song got so popular they named a baseball team after it.
This song is about Julian's relationship with his father. His dad died in 2013, shortly after the release of "Comedown Machine," so the material on this album is first stuff Julian would have released with The Strokes since his father's death. His dad was a pretty big deal in the modeling world and likely cast a long shadow. He probably traveled all the time and was not very present while he was home. This is a common story for people (like myself) who grew up rich in NYC. Something that is unique to rich NYC culture is that life does not revolve around children the way it does in the suburbs. Kids like Julian grow up fast and jaded in NYC and they have the freedom of 20 something yuppies when they are 15. It's a bit of a head trip, because on the one hand your parents have given you this amazing life that everyone wants, but on the other hand they are never around and it's pretty clear that spending time with you is not their priority. Julian's early music really captured the thrill and pain of growing up like that, and it's great to see him reflecting back as an older man, and finally getting his Grammy in the process.
this exactly
What an excellent comment
Well put.
thank you for making the song somehow better

I can’t believe 20 years later The Strokes are putting out this kind of quality. The album is amazing and the visuals have been stunning. As a lifelong fan it’s like a dream come true.
Me too man, they’re my favorite band, and ytheyve kinda been a part of my whole life. Sadly though, I only got into them properly ~3 years ago, long after Comedown Machine and a short while after Future Present Past. I really hoped, in spite of what people said, that there would be another album. This is literally a dream come true. :’)
Sure. You can dislike, ok. But the artistic quality is always there, its undeniable.
I totally agree with you

Exactly
Because when u die, there is no pain, stress, and others things so you are in peace.
Well thats my point of view.
The end of the world is your life and how it ends. Different times are coming. I've tested myself, living off the grid and outside in the woods. The end of the world as you know it, see it as a liberation from your invisible prison, wich you call your life. Work is slavery for being stacked up in a fancy looking tower.

One of the best written songs of all time.
Saw the Strokes in Berlin in February 2020. They played Adults are talking for the first time and it blew me away. The whole concert was great. Shortly after corona came and concerts were no more. When the album finally came out I was immediately hooked on Ode to the meets, to a point where I would autistically listen to that song on repeat. For months. On my way to work and back home... just this song... Corona made the subways empty and the streets eerie. Ode To The Mets was my loyal companion in those weird weird times.
I personally think that this song, Selfless, and “Why are Sunday’s so depressing?”, are some of the best alternative rock songs I’ve ever heard in my life. That being said, Adults are talking and Brooklyn Bridge are also next level songs too! Incredible album as a whole, one of the best I’ve heard for the alternative rock genre in many years.
Spot on assessment. 👍🏼

This album has to be the best produced music of all time. So crisp with that classic strokes compressed feel. Unbelievable.
This is the kind of song that is so good that you have to listen to it three times on repeat until you feel satisfied and move on to the next one.
The Strokes were oringinally going to change the name of the song but fab told them not to, saying both the Mets and the song evoke “something that you set your heart to and that you love unconditionally but that continues to disappoint you” and that convinced them to keep it.

Since "The New Abnormal" came out in April, I've probably listened to it 20-30 times. I think this is their most "complete" album so far. I can hear how they have grown musically, thou they still retained their signature sound (like in "Bad Decisions"). I love how they left in Julian's comments made during the recording ("Drums, please, Fab..." "False...break..." etc.). Rick Rubin's influence is clearly felt on this album, but in a sense that he gave the guys courage to experiment, like with "At the Door" (the song has no drums for the first 3 minutes or so, but has some of Julian's best singing ever, with an ominous keyboard hum throughout). Also, making it their first video from the album takes some balls, when they could have gone with much safer "Eternal Summer", which is such a great tune. So great in fact, that even the fade out ending sounds so good, it could have been a hit song all on it's own. For me, it's a mix of waiting so long for their new stuff, and that what they recorded seems to be exactly the music I needed to hear at this stage of my life, that makes this album so good. Also, I'm the same age as them, so I guess that too is one of the reasons the music sounds as if it was custom tailored for me. In case you missed it from reading my comment, I REALLY LOVE THIS ALBUM from start to finish! Now all I have to do is to wait for this pandemic to pass, and then hear them live...(maybe in 2021).
Ur gay
It's like you've read my mind and said all of this before I could. The New Abnormal if my favorite album right now, even though I know the first two are better and feel much more nostalgic when I listen to them. I've listened to The New Abnormal so many times I'm sure that years from now when I play it again, I'll remember of 2020. It's basically the soundtrack for this year in my life.
I completely agree that it feels as if it was “tailor made”, I’m sure it’s the same for all the true fans but the timing of the album and the title makes me think that The Strokes truly have their fingers on the pulse of society or that Julian is simply a genius and the world needs to wake up and realise it. Phenomenal album

Everyone goes into their critical thinking of their brain when hearing this song. This song was my most played song in 2022. Liking or even loving this song is still an under appreciation of what this song does to one soul. For the longest time I wanted to put into words of what this song puts you in and still I cannot find a solid answer. This song is what makes me believe magic is real. The true beauty of life and death. The strokes really put themselves as GOATs with this. All I can say is that when I’m chilling with homies vibing and this song goes on, it’s as if we all have a moment of silence to truly enjoy the music. Not a sound to come out from us. Countless times people have came over to my place and thanked me with their kind hearts for hearing this song. I cannot take credit for I was not the one who made the song. Many people don’t even go into this genre of music. But something about this masterpiece is something more special. It shows a story of your own life as if you are listening to your life story unfold in front of your face. Not many songs can do this type of this sorcery. Ode to the Mets will always have a special place in my heart. The journey is still yet to be completed!

ahahahahahah the lyrics in the description are wrong!
LOL I just realised that 🤣🤣
LMAOOOO
Someone must have been drunk lmaooo
They've just copied the Bad Decisions video description hahaha
nono it's not wrong, it's just the way jules sings it lol
lyrics ♥
Up on his horse, up on his horse
Not gonna wake up here anymore
Listen one time, it's not the truth
It's just a story, I tell to you
Easy to say, easy to do
But it's not easy, well, maybe for you
Hope that you find it, hope that it's good
Hope that you read it, think that you should
Cuts you some slack as he sits back
Sizes you up, plans his attack
Ah-da-da
Drums please, Fab
And I got it all, I got it all
Waiting for me down on the street
But now you gotta do somethin' special for me
I'm gonna say what's on my mind
Then I'll walk out, then I'll feel fine
Yeah, I'm under his thumb, I'm on his back
I will not show my teeth too quick
I needed you there, I needed you there
But I didn't know, I didn't know
Go alone
I'll go alone
We'll go alone
I'll go alone
Back from his trip, he's at the door
When he gets back, he's on the phone
Innocent eye, innocent heart
No, it's not wrong, but it's not right
Innocent time out on his own
Not got gonna do that, I'm out of control
I was just bored playin' the guitar
Learned all your tricks, wasn't too hard
It's the last one now, I can promise you that
I'm gonna find out the truth when I get back
Gone now are the old times
Forgotten, time to hold on the railing
The Rubix cube isn't solving for us
Old friends, long forgotten
The old ways at the bottom
Of the ocean now has swallowed
The only thing that's left
Is us, so pardon the silence
That you're hearing is turning
Into a deafening, painful, shameful roar
Merci pour les paroles
Merci
Cant find the chorus here..
Thanks boo
💕🍃

3d animation in timeless zoom out
The saddest Strokes song. I didn't realize just how sad it was till I looked up the lyrics. Jesus...
I wonder what you say to this music ruclips.net/video/riMmi1Lmhi8/видео.html
People don’t realize how depressing it is to be a Mets fan, hug your local Mets fan
Ik right, and it's my favorite from the entire album 💀💀💀
hello fello radiohead fan ;)
this song is pure perfection.. every little note has its place.. pure genius.. Julian is one talented man ... the whole album is pretty much perfect.. no fillers in sight
The Strokes truly touched my heart and changed my life forever. I’m so grateful for their music. This is their best closer hands down, probably won’t be able to ever top it, although I hope they do in their next album!
It’s been a horrible year but this song makes me happy to be alive.
this band THE IMPURES, released this song "TIME" listen to it is so good
I feel you. I was trying to recover from a broken heart and after 9 months this song made me transcend all stupid things in life. Kinda travelled back in time and told my past self that everything was gonna be ok. No drugs needed, just music.
look up this indie song that someone recomnded me ( TIME BY THE IMPURES
is good af yoyo
:D :)))
What's wrong with 2021?
Agreeeeeee
Escuchar a Julian decir drums please fab, siempre es lo que le da sentido a mi vida
Te cura del covid..
Bro, I really feel that
This song is my therapy. I constantly anticipate the “Drums please, Fab” part.
If you're a mets fan (like myself) u understand fully the message and video 😭😭....Shea stadium at the end, underwater. The ya gotta believe sign (a famous mets fight slogan) destroyed underwater. The "restart button". Shows the hope that is destroyed after every season, and the desire to restart, only for the same result. 😢
I remember reading in an interview (2010) that Julian Casablancas wanted to write a song for the NY Mets; he eventually got to do it, and as they stated in "5guys talking about things they know nothing about ep. 2" at some point he wanted to name this song just Ode, but Moretti convinced him to keep the word Mets. Julian said he wrote it while waiting for a train after the Mets lost a match, and Morietti pointed out that it alludes to "something that you set your heart to, and that you love unconditionally but that continues to disappoint you".
Thats pretty much describe the whole song
The pain of being a diehard Mets fan is channeled perfectly into this song.
He can write a whole discography on Arsenal then
@@bigmoist2112 that hit me AF
I'm i the only one that has felt like i've heard this song before a long time ago like this song is new but it brings nostalgia
I'm I the only one that has felt like i've heard this song before a long time ago.
Yeah, sort of, it’s more like a path of life
No hate but the melody sounds a lot like "left outside alone" by Anastacia. Maybe you mean that by nostalgic
I totally agree. I feel like this song has been in my life for 20+ years. It’s so comfortable and calming for me to listen too
YES MAAAAAAN
I just travelled back home from 4 years abroad to attend my father’s funeral. He spent more than a decade fighting for his health, and I didn’t make it to have any last words. On the way to the cemetery, I played this song and sang along as the last farewell to my late father. You had an amazing but painful life, please rest in peace (1965-2022).
Im sorry for your loss :(
19 years after their debut album and they still release music like this . Ode to THE STROKES …
This song hurts in the best way possible
jules: “drums pls fab”
fab: ✨✨✨
I've listened to this song so many times that surely it is a part of my soul
The best song that I’ve ever listened to , the feeling i get from listening to it is just indescribable… god i love the song
The saddest part about this song is that it's such a good closer that I'm sure that they'd want to end their discography with this masterpiece.
That's how I felt when I watched the documentary on the 86 Mets
Julian said they're still working on new music
I feel like Julian and the strokes will make amazing music until they can't anymore
that would indeed be sad, because this record shows they're improving as musicians, and they were already amazing.
That's a pretty good idea, but since they'll still make more music maybe they'll reference this track on their actual last closing song, like Ode to the Strokes or something lol
This is the melody that's been playing in my soul my whole life!!!
This and why are sundays so depressing
You just encapsulated exactly why this song rings so true to me, thank you! This is the melody of my soul and although its a little sad its also so damn beautiful - gives me hope for what is to come
I know that feeling bro!
Mine too
