The Strokes are that kind of band that people dont like them quickly, but once go through their music, is the most amazing thing. It's hard to explain

They are an incredibly easy band to like. Their songs are short and catchy and distinct, completely lacking in pretentiousness. Just straight forward great bangers, one after the other played by good looking guys who dress cool. If I had to come up with some bands who were great but hard to get into at first the Strokes would be about as far away from making that list as possible. What part of their sound, or image do you think turns people off at first?
I started listening to them because a girl I liked in middle school had “The Strokes” written on her backpack in sharpie, so naturally I had to research and discover this awesome band. She never was interested in me but I was hooked with this band. Introduced them to my girlfriends there on after. So many memories, good and bad, with their music. I’m about to be 24 but those memories never fade when I put on one of their records.

I heard of them and arctic monkeys from a girl I really liked too! She had shirts from both of their concerts and we smoked a lot of weed talking about them😅 good times

Everytime I watch it I go through my memories, being a child and discovering things, the first girl that I fell in love with, my first kiss... My grandparents that are gone now, some people from my family that were important, the day that I almost lost my mom in the hospital, the day that my father almost left the house when I was 13 and I cried in front of him... my first serious relationship and all the mistakes that I committed and that eventually led to the end of it, and how much I still remember her.
Even for a 3:50 minutes long music, it feels like an eternity when you listen to it over and over again, extremely nostalgic song.

Something about The Strokes on those first two albums... they were just one of those bands where their sound is like a total gestalt experience. To me personally the sound always embodied that of an intelligent 20-something going through something of an existential crisis and finding him/herself more and more disinterested in everything and drinking heavily to cope.

My favorite Strokes song. I think it really concentrates what I love about them into one song. The lofi elements, the rawness of the guitar, Julian's voice and lyrics. Such a classic.
I remember buying this album (CD) in New York City a couple weeks after 9/11. I was up from Philly on a class trip, I was 15. I just picked a CD to put in my Walkman on the ride home. I chose wisely.

The drums tell the beginning, the bass comes in and tells more, and then the guitars come in and lastly the singer tells the morale of the song. It may seem to be a little love song to people, but if you listen very closely, and you look at the pictures that go along, it is also showing Human accomplishments, culture, thrills, laughter, and things that we Humans can feel. This song always makes me feel different, when i listen to it i picture a lot of good memories in my mind and i go nostalgic for a while, sort of positive and negative song at the same time, it makes me think of how life always goes on no matter what happen to you and all the memories you have collected so far that will never die. It gives me hope for a better tomorrow but it makes wanna cry as well.

Thats weird the same happen to me. I exclusively listened to rap and latin music and very very little rock (growing up where I grew up rock was considered kinda gay) but once I heard the strokes in 2011 its been the complete opposite. Now I almost never listen to rap and instead listen to every other type of music. As dysfunction as this band is I'll always consider them my favorite.
pat duckets same shit here, grew up in Compton and listened to Game and Mr Criminal. My ex-sort of introduced them to me... but i didn't really pay attention to them and didn't get it. Once I heard the lyrics again - shit was deep.Found out the lead singer freestyles his lyrics.. i have way more respect for Rock lyrics than any 2pac or any rap lyrics.
Then i went to Brazil and Mexico..and found out STrokes are a bigger deal over there than in the U.S.
