Was obsessed with Blur and this song 6 years ago. Glad to see that it's 2020 and ppl are still watching and commenting under this video :) Edit: 6 years, not 4
On a random day in the summer of 2005 it was 5:30am. I was high on ecstasy, laid on the couch in my living room with my good friend as company. The ending of this song was playing. Almost 20 years later it still makes me feel warm inside when I hear it 🥰
I just started listening to this song today and Blur a couple of days ago. I’ve known about them for a while and decided to give them a listen. This song… man… it has a weird affect on me. It gives me this sort of nostalgia for some reason, and I don’t know why. I’ve listened to it at least 4 or 5 times today, and I cried the 4th time. It makes me sad… yet happy. The song is just so amazing and then Damon and his incredible dreaminess just tops it all off. And Graham’s incredible guitar playing…and the “oooooOOooooooo” part. Don’t even get me started on the ending… thats everything for me . Maybe its that Damon kinda sounds and looks really sad in this video to me. I don’t know. The song makes me feel as if missing someone or something and its to late to go back it cause its all gone… its really really weird and sad and happy in a way and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! All I know right now is that this is one of the most incredible songs i’ve ever heard in my entire life.

Still one of my favourite songs of theirs. "Beetlebum" is a song by English alternative rock band Blur. It was released in January 1997 as the lead single from the band's eponymous fifth album, Blur. Written about Blur frontman Damon Albarn's experiences with heroin, the song features Beatles-influenced music and a mood that Albarn described as "sleepy" and "sexy."

@@beththegreenIf you were a "maintenance user", e.g. got high daily but weren't always "nodding out" or going too far... I'm pretty sure the heroin slowed your visible aging process. It still poisoned your body, but also stunted your growth in an "attractive" way. Opiates are super weird drugs.

I miss britpop: Blur, Oasis, Pulp, The Verve, Supergrass, Cast, Placebo, Space, Sleeper and Elastica.... I feel bad for anyone who missed out on this beautiful era. I remember listening to both Oasis and blur at glustonbury. fucking magical. I was only 12, but I loved it.
i hear you mate but there was a lot of my mates too obsessed with brit that they missed out on some real class american bands of the same era
Being a youngster from Asia I could only watch this on MTV when it wasn't totally shit yet.
Placebo aren't Britpop just to let you know
They are mainly from Belgium
And your missing suede
Wow...I didn't even realized Damon was so desired... I've always loved Blur as an awesome band, how no one out-staged the other, which is priceless and so satisfying to hear and watch ❤️
25 years old and one of the best outros ever! Graham Coxon, one of the great underrated guitarist
Was obsessed with Blur and this song 6 years ago. Glad to see that it's 2020 and ppl are still watching and commenting under this video :)
Edit: 6 years, not 4
I was obsessed with this song 23 years ago! lol
me too, obsessed when i was 16, 7 years ago
I obsessed with blur just now lmao cuz I wasn’t born in 1980 lol
this song has NO business being this good oml
Ikr? I have to listen to this song at least once a day I love I so much
On a random day in the summer of 2005 it was 5:30am.
I love reading comments like these. I've known Blur and Gorillaz for so fucking long...i decided to dive more into Blur and today is my first time hearing this one. I love how dramatic this video is!!

Me too! They're amazing as a band and Damon is soooo hot!
Now 03.43, close enough?
This song is amazing, the chorus always gives me goosebumps!
Normally I don’t like slower songs, but Damon’s voice is just so good.

You're thinking of David Bowie, easy mistake to make.
so true
0:05 That specific moment when Graham starts to play the riff... Changed my life.
The last minute of this video is amazing. British film and arts were pioneering in the 90s. I hope that can come back
Graham really nails the guitar in this, he wanted to sound more like the American indie bands of the time and he took their style and just took it to another level
Stephen Malkmus is whom you’re referring too
I confronted my biological dad today who didn’t wanna acknowledge nor care About my existence and I feel free now this song helped a lot and blur will forever be one of my favourite bands 😊
That's a pos, babe. Let go of the weight and soar.
"Beetlebum by Blur. it's the best britpop song. A superb song. Twenty years ago this choice would have been widely commented on, I agree. But I'm sincere, it sounds like The Beatles. It could have its place on The White Album, it's that brilliant. And I love what Damon is doing with Gorillaz just as much." ~ Noel Gallagher
i have to agree with you. i really hear the Beatles vibe in this song, but so original at the same time
When I die I want to reincarnate as Damon’s microphone

Lyrics:
Beetlebum
What you've done
She's a gun
Now what you've done
Beetlebum
Get nothing done
You beetlebum
Just get numb
Now what you've done
Beetlebum
And when she lets me slip away
She turns me on then all my violence is gone
Nothing is wrong
I just slip away and I am gone
Nothing is wrong
She turns me on
I just slip away and I am gone
Beetlebum
Because you're young
She's a gun
Now what you've done
Beetlebum
She'll suck your thumb
She'll make you come
'Cause, she's your gun
Now what you've done
Beetlebum
And when she lets me slip away
She turns me on then all my violence is gone
Nothing is wrong
I just slip away and I am gone
There's nothing wrong
She turns me on
I just slip away and I am gone
He's on, he's on, he's on it
He's on, he's on, he's on it
He's on, he's on, he's on it
He's on, he's on, he's on it
He's on, he's on, he's on it

It’s so interesting to see this cleaned up clip 25 years on. We can now see the coke can and cigarette that were otherwise blurred out originally. Seriously though this song never ceases to amaze and drown me all at the same time. If I ever need to be reminded why they’re my favourite band I play this. Always

Graham looks so precious and "coolnerd" in this video and don't forget those riffs. He's perfect!💕
Still one of my favourite songs of theirs. I'm sure it's been mentioned before somewhere but at the bit from 04:03, when Damon looks out the window and the camera starts to pan away from the building, it's as if the video is saying goodbye to that era of "Britpop" although of course the real end to that scene didn't come for another 7 or 8 months after this song came out.
It's about his break up with Justine Frischman
@@SerenityChaos1975 Mmm I don't think so... It's about Damon's experience with heroine

@@vanivanita she is heroin
@@vanivanita Chasing the beetle is just another variation on chasing the dragon. Smoking smack, basically. The gear turns into a small black dot on the foil, which you move around and 'chase' with a rolled up piece of paper for inhaling. So yeah. In this context, a beetlebum is just a poetic term for a junkie. "Just get numb".
@@MarquisSmith the song was about Justine Frischmann of Elastica. She was a massive heroin addict.

Hard to believe he was an addict; Damon was and still is a handsome lad. Sad; every member in this band was hooked on different drugs at one point. Glad they lived through it. Godspeed
Yeah you can tell they went through some heavy stuff by the music they made at that time. It's good that they're leading healthier lives now. And I'm happy to see Damon still coming up with mad musical ideas and being as fresh as ever. A truly inspiring man (and a good-looking one too!)
So many addicts are youthful and attractive and you'd never know
Not that I think I'm attractive but I'm young and put together, and noone ever thought i was a heroin addict
I was a model even
@@beththegreenIf you were a "maintenance user", e.g. got high daily but weren't always "nodding out" or going too far... I'm pretty sure the heroin slowed your visible aging process. It still poisoned your body, but also stunted your growth in an "attractive" way. Opiates are super weird drugs.
Do you have to look like Aerosmith to fall into the abyss. Nah. And like Steven and Joe. They are here and 2023 a new album
@@beththegreen I don't think he was ever an addict. Yeah the song is about heroin but I think it was more his girlfriend Justine who was right into it. In fact she introduced it to him. Obviously he had some experience with it though.
