Lyrics:
He's a twentieth century boy
With his hands on the rails
Trying not to be sick again
And holding on for tomorrow
London ice cracks on a seamless line
He's hanging on for dear life
And so we hold each other tightly
And hold on for tomorrow
Singing la, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la
La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la
La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la
Holding on for tomorrow
She's a twentieth century girl
With her hands on the wheel
Trying not to make you sick again
Seeing what she can borrow
London's so nice back in your seamless rhymes
But we're lost on the West way
So we hold each other tightly
And we can wait until tomorrow
Singing la, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la
La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la
La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la
Holding on for tomorrow
We're trying not to be sick again
And holding on for tomorrow
She's a twentieth century girl
Holding on for dear life
And so we hold each other tightly
And hold on for tomorrow
Singing la, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la
La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la
La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la
Holding on for tomorrow
Jim stops and gets out of the car
Goes to a house in Emperor's Gate
Through the door and to his room, and then he puts the TV on
Turns it off and makes some tea
Says modern life is rubbish
I'm holding on for tomorrow
Then Susan comes into the room
She's a naughty girl with a lovely smile
Says, "let's take a drive to Primrose Hill
It's windy there, and the view's so nice"
London ice can freeze your toes, like anyone, I suppose
You're holding on for tomorrow
About Blur: Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Seven successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in 1997 and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.
Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, is the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Ballad of Darren (2023).

What a time to be a blur fan
My twelve years of interest have finally paid off 😂
Between this, the reunion tour and the B-roads leak, this year is shaping up to be a great one

he’s so beautiful 🙏🤧
Yet again I wish I was the girl rolling down the hill with him, for the first time in colour 😭x
Imagine being a girl in '93 and having the honor of rolling around in Damon's embrace on Primrose Hill.
Agree
My god
Who is his co-star in the video?
Wow.... I imagine that too
@@glx3846 It's only bloody Kathy Kiera Clarke who plays Aunt Sarah in Derry Girls! Who knew!?
Seeing it in color really changes the tone of the music video. The original feels so somber and lost, like clinging to life when one is suicidal, but in color it’s like seeing the world as it really is. A beautiful place where happiness can be found around us
The original version looked like it was trying to be from about 1963, and the only anachronisms were two background cars and that Sony TV showing the album title.
Lol no freak
Russia did bucha…

Such an underated song! Easily one of the top 10 Blur's songs.
Great song 👍
It's not underrated. It's considered one of the best
@@mike365fly ...for Blur's fans. I mean, is not that popular like Song 2, Coffee and Tv or even The Universal.
Modern Life Is Rubbish, is probably their best crafted LP
13
a huge fan since There’s No Other Way, blown away by MLIR, saw them for the first of 8x on The Great Escape in NYC Beetlebum is my favorite song all time but i have to agree that 13 is next level in craft and emotion. nothing like being the front man of the best band in England and still being so dissatisfied that Justine Frischmann dumps you. unlucky
13
best crafted is sayin a lot cuz they got like 8 a those but is it probably the most cohesive and consistent sound-wise
Modern life is still rubbish, great band 👍
Let's hold each other tightly like it's 1993
That's the best advice. World gone totally mad in 30 years... I wish we could be as careless now.
Hasn’t it just, oh how it felt like yesterday watching that star shaped video as a youngen.
Omg yes look how far we’ve all come 😅
We’re all old :(
The original greyscale version still hits different. But it's nice to see this again in full color 🙏🙏🥺❣️❣️
Plus this version was cropped vertically so there’s actually LESS video happening visually here in each frame than the original
Que lindo verlo el video asi ❤
@@pyenapple sure about that?
@@pyenappleYep, there's less image at the top and bottom, but there's also more image at the sides, compare it with the OG b&w video
@@lady_agitha5976 i am happy they did it, but…why ruin the original director’s framing? It’s bizarre to me. If something was filmed to be framed on old TV’s leave it that way, otherwise you completely devalue the expertise of the film crew. So weird.
I've almost cried watching this... It's a different time in my life since I first knew this band. It literally changed my life in so many ways.
I'm a huge film digital restoration nerd as well as a Blur fan so this is incredible to see. The upgrade in quality from the old video master to the original film is one of the most dramatic I've ever seen
Hey you should look up a band called The Doublejumps if you like Blur
Another upgrade that comes to mind is the one done for "D'you know what I mean?"by Oasis. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet
@@etmafra That video restoration is amazing! Looks like it's been filmed with today's technology.
Happy 30th birthday Modern Life Is Rubbish! I brought the cassette tape 30 years ago in the summer of 93 after watching blur play live at Reading and the album became one of the most important records of my life.
Roll on Wembley!
Takes me back to being a music obsessed teenager in the 1990s. Love this track so much.
Hey you should look up a band called The Doublejumps if you like Blur
I was in my late-20's when this came out.
what would make you stop being music obsessed?
Is criminal how an album released before I was born makes me feel so nostalgic. Happy 30 years Modern life is rubbish 🥳. Yes, you were (and still are) so true on that statement.
I hear you. I'm a 65-year old in Florida who just heard this for the first time, and it makes me nostalgic for a time and place I have never come close to experiencing. But my ancestors were Brits, so maybe that counts...
I feel very fortunate to have been a Blur fan since the beginning. This was an amazing time to be a music fan. British Indie/Brit Pop ❤
Wow. Utterly beautiful. Never get bored of this song and the colour video is stunning.
❤ I'm 8 years old, hearing this song, and falling in love with Damon and his music. 30 years on... I'm still in love with him and his music. The man has never let me down ❤
One of the greatest bands ever ❤
The colouring completely changes the feel of the video. I don't know about anyone else, but it makes it easier for me to follow what's going on in the video. And the upgrade in clarity/sharpness... it's immense
Damon in 4K, we didn't ask for that much! 😍
Love being a young blur fan
Thanks Damon, Graham, Alex, Dave and the entire staff behind this beautiful restoration :')
U q wea
“Beautiful” except for the fact they literally cut the top and bottom parts of the video off to force it to be a wider screen. So dumb that they didn’t seem to give a fk about the value of the work of the original film crew.
@@pyenapple Yeah, I noticed that too, but nothing is perfect and at least they kept the original clip intact, they didn't replace it like in the 4K version of Beetlebum and Song 2
@@pyenapple There is way more image on the right and left side and the loss of image above and below is hardly noticeable, I just compared both videos

Brilliant to see this in full, vibrant colour. A true classic, tomorrow is endless in its possibilities.
OMG! The clarity. Loved the orignal vid, but love this even more! Oh, 1993 London, I miss you so
Absolutely amazing! Your music will heal us for generations to come. My husband is nine years older than me, and we are both sooo excited, eagerly awaiting your show in Colombia. He's in tears due to the nostalgia, and so am I, because my dream has come true. We will love you forever, thank you for coming back ☄️🪐🩷
Blur’s music videos are so inspirational to me. They’re some of the best in the game! As an artist and musician myself, these videos embody what I want to create for my band!
The happiest 4:18 of my life whenever things get a little fraught out there. 30 years ago I bought this in woolworths as a single, saw then play an acoustic version at XFM festival in Finsbury park and today on the other side of the world, I'm still waiting 'For Tomorrow'.....
I'M CRYING THE QUALITY IS SO GOOD
I was revisiting old playlists of mine as I was a huge Blur fan in high school (that makes me sound old- I'm 22) and omg!! I'm so glad I looked up this song on RUclips. I loved the original so much but watching it in colour is like experiencing it again for the first time. Thank you, it looks wonderful and ugh its just one of those music videos that leave me with a smile on my face.

This is my favourite song from my favourite album of theirs. Weird to see the video all in colour after all these years. Thank you.
What a lovely.
BLUR is Fantastic from JAPAN.
if you like this you might like my brothers music. His name is Stu Morris and 'She has a Car' is a good song by him.
Nice restoration of the video, the colors pop out more. It now also serves as a time capsule of what London looked like in 1993. Iconic song album, it's my favorite of theirs besides Blur and 13.
Blur writes great albums that have singles instead of great singles on albums. Their interests and direction has changed from time to time, but they are the most consistent band I’ve ever heard. I first started listening just before the s/t was released, so mid 90’s? I didn’t go back to previous records before The Great Escape until around the lull between 13 and Think Tank. I was shocked that even the early albums (like modern life and leisure) were so coherent beginning to end. I struggle to think of another band with so many albums with ZERO tracks that I skip. Pure talent and smarts. Artists should study Blur’s consistency and thoughtfulness in album pacing, track order, and what doesn’t belong on a record. I have gushed enough. Thanks, Blur.
The best band of all time.

Amazing, perfect song. I will never get tired of listening to it. Damon Albarn is a genius❤
Why were they so cute, why the music is so kickass, i love the ska boots n' the british thing. I love them
I love how something as simple as colour can make your video feel entirely different. To me, the original video in black and white makes you agree with the lyrics, showing that modern life is all cold and dreary. But this version feels like its in juxtaposition of the lyrics, saying why wait for tomorrow when today is so beautiful and lively and full of colour, live for today. Anyway just a lame rant about colour grading, they couldn't have picked a more beautiful video to restore, and what a fantastic restoration at that!
