You looked at a video of an extremely heavy individual (over 400 pounds) and used that to determine the durability of an exercise device made for endurance athletes. Concept 2s are what crew teams use. 200+ pounds athletes use these every day for years and years, and they are just fine. They are designed to come apart at that joint for moving them and storage. So if you're over the weight limit of it, and there is a joint that is DESIGNED to come apart, then yes, there is going to be motion.
      I don't care if there are hour counters. I rowed in college, and I coached collegiate rowing after I graduated. I can assure you that our rowing machines didn't just "sit there." And Concept 2 machines are THE standard for competitive rowing, collegiate and later.

    The WR for 100m was already 12.8. Ross Love did it earlier this year. It's an incredible time and a fantastic expression of power.
    But anyone who knows anything about rowing would expect the likes of Shaw and Thor Bjornsson to be perfect for a 100m. Big and with huge back and core strength, combined with monster leg drive and enough fitness to produce the power for 13 seconds.
    Someone should give Brian a few hours of training on leg-drive timing, and also buy him the longer rail that Concept2 makes for taller athletes. I think I've read that the record low pull (the speed at any given stroke) is 1:01/500m; my guess is Brian might be the one guy who could make 1:00 or even 0:59 appear on screen.

    • @samharper5881
      @samharper5881 7 лет назад +93

      The world records are all on the Concept2 website, plus I think Ross posted his video on both his Instagram and RUclips. Ross is also the WR holder for the 1-minute row (418 metres). And I think Ross prefers the damper (not "resistance setting") at 10, as do a lot of big guys and people who come from a strength/powerlifting background. Generally people will push the damper higher with shorter races because it's easier to hit top speed.
      If you're interested in it, you can read up on what the damper actually does and why people are free to pick whatever setting they choose. The world record holder over 2k (Rob Waddell), for instance, usually set the damper almost at the bottom, because he trusted his leg speed and the twitch of his muscles to generate the resistance himself. But the "resistance" is also affected by how much dust is in the machine, the ambient air pressure (altitude) etc.

    Separating out the specific parts and tools for each of the seven step assembly process steps was brilliant on the part of the manufacturer. For the price, I am impressed at how sturdy this ruclips.net/user/postUgkxvObaTzoHoHQLL4lHbJQmExHqsrZQm-f7 unit is and it does go together easily. Well, I was puzzled at first at Step 5 and maybe the instructions should mention that rail #62 needs to be tilted upwards a little to get the rail to fit into the main part #44. I like it that the rower can be stored vertically in a really small amount of space, but be forewarned that this rower is top heavy and for safety you'll need at least two bungee cords to keep the unit upright, attaching them to something; in my case to a third garage door. I have had this unit only a short time, and I will post an update once I've had it for a year. As for working your legs, I have to admit that I'm mainly rowing for upper body strength and I use other forms of exercise for leg strength (like walking fast, biking, or using a trampoline. But if you pull as far forward as possible, then you can give preference to your legs for the first 4 feet or so of travel. I also admit to not taking the two electronic connectors apart at Step 7. I simply inserted the two batteries while the other parts remained connected. By the way, there is plenty of resistance here, even in the lowest resistance settings. Kudos to Sunny Health & Fitness !

      He's too heavy and his form is crap. He rushed the slide every stroke and he didn't get enough compression in his legs. If he actually did it appropriately he probably could have gone even faster on the ergometer, but that doesn't mean shit in a boat. Power means nothing without form in a boat. The bow would be underwater and the boat would flip and tip over.

      If out doors, the distance is always 2000 meters. World record for singles is 6 min 33 seconds. Roughly 19,66 seconds per 100 meters. The boats kip over easily without good balance and there's no boat in existance in the singles that could handle Shaw's bodyweight. Would sink like Titanic. :) Nice job though for the indoor thing!

    The heaviest ever rower in the Boat Race (very prestigious annual race between Oxford and Cambridge) weighed in at 110.8 kg.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorsten_Engelmann
    Shaw weighs in at a little under twice as much and is probably around the same height, so while he's ideally suited for a 100 m sprint on a rower, he'd be an anchor in an actual boat.
    (not to take away from the accomplishment, just some trivia from a guy who's rowed in the past and does strongman now)

      @ledari Bro you need to look at both sides why you are sad. I'm 6ft and in terms of girls, id preffer to be shorter, just so we can touch each other with whole body, but 6ft is cool lol in some cases id like to be 6'4 lol look at both sides.
