What Derek callls "ulnar deviation" is actually radial deviation. The Ulnar deviation is the opposite movement (towards the ulna bone). In arm wrestling the ulnar deviation is executed to an extent in the low-hand toproll, but the raising (radial deviation) displayed here, is used for the high-hand toprolling, which is what he was demonstrating.

Most times when the old pros in the sport make videos, they take a lot of this for given and talk "intermediate", when they think they're doing a video for beginners. Derek is a really good teacher. I'm impressed.
A 10/10 video!
A 40+ minute Brian Shaw vid? Talk about a Friday gift.
I know right💯
It gets me so excited to see Brian at a table training in arm wrestling. I feel like I am watching the beginnings of something great! Levan's reign and the speculations on whom could ever possibly defeat him, Brian's name has been suggested before. If he were to keep at it and dive into the sport completely, he could be a truly dominating force!
Seems like it would definitely be a way for strongmen or powerlifters to keep training after their primes; the tendon strength and technique necessary to get good is something you can build up over your entire life
Brian, you should collaborate with Devon Larratt. You'll learn so much about Arm Wrestling from him!
No he needs to train with John and just get table time or Alex which is another man his size like Derek, I also think Travis would be a good coach for him also
@@jessehensley1812 Nah I'm correct
@@miguelbascon1206 nah ur not
@@jessehensley1812 Devon >>>>> Travis
yea im ngl devon would prolly be the best trainer for brian.
The best education video for armwrestling I have ever see!
Derek should announced as the official armwrestling teacher!
Derek seems like a great guy!
I think this really shows how good of a student Brian is. He soaked up this training incredibly fast.
I am so stoked your training we need you to beat Levan
nope hope for that, he start too late this sport.
@@monolithe00 lol
@@monolithe00 really he js still 42 how late is that?
Derek break it down so well. You can tell he has spent the hours trying to work it out for himself 👏
Amazing video! Derek is awesome, great communicator. Brian, please get in to armwrestling!!!
You guys are great working together. Awesome coaching Derek! Brian is a quick learner.
This was a really good intro to the basics of arm wrestling. The way Derek explained the basic strategies and mechanics was really informative.
Thank you!!!!
Brian you truly have the potential to be the best one the planet at arm wrestling if you committed to it, obviously it's a huge commitment and something you would need to love to do but would be amazing to see you really take it serious and become a dominant force in armwrestling!
I'm beyond excited to see you get involved in arm wrestling!!!
Derek is an excellent coach! And I just can't wait for Brian to start competing. He has the strength, the brains, and the cardio. The question is not if he will be top 3 in the world, it is WHEN. Some folks are saying 2 years? I think 2 months!
42 mins of awesomeness 😁🤣💪🙌😎 can't wait to see this great video, of two great guy's!!!!
Awesome to see these 2 giants on the table. Derek is probably the best trainer for him and I think Brian would be perfect for the sport. Then to practice with Devon and Michael for their different styles. This would be the best way to determine weather or not he wants to give arm wrestling a real try. I really want to see this happen!
You have to invite the legends one at a time to learn more, John Berzenk, Michael Todd, Devon Larrat, Todd Hutchings, Jerry Cadorrette or Ron Bath there on your gym, like Larry wheels said AW has a lot of longevity on it when you do it right as a career and as a genetically gifted huge person you should start doing AW more Brian. Sky is the limit for you, Good Luck
Sounds like a plan 😎
Nahh not Michael Todd, I mean he's great, but all the things I saw him do is kings move
Edit: I'm stupid, Michael Todd is a legend even though he's abusing kings move
Exactly, he should learn from the best
I think Devon would be a good mentor
I always knew there was more to arm wrestling than just moving the arm but... holy cow this is amazing.
Yes Brian, we need you in armwrestling!!!
Derek is such a good teacher, he explains fundamentals and easy to learn so well. Amazing video, looking forward for next one
AW is the future tbh. There is no other strength sport that people can be competitive at 50 years+ of age
Nick Best, Mark Felix, Odd Hagen, literally just off the top of my head, would like to have a word with you boy...
GREAT VIDEO! Please Shaw, PLEASE GET INTO THIS BROTHER!!!
What an incredible teacher. I learned soooo much more here than the 200 other vids I’ve seen.
thank you!
42 minutes of Brian Shaw… hell yeah!
always a pleasure to see Brian learning, always the humble student
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!! :D
Great video. Derek is a very good teacher. Brian couldnt have picked a better guy to try and learn since they are similar in size. I hope Brian really gets interested in armwrestleing. Its my favorite sport to watch. Brian could level up quick with they way he is dedicated to whatever he does.
Oh Man! this is a dream come true! I really hope Brain picks up Arm Wrestling! This is a happy day.
Shit, I had a brain fart. Stupid camera got me nervous lol
@@AWDerek Lol, you did amazing nonetheless. If I was there, I'd probably bury him with BS only 😆
Excellent interview of Derek on Shaw’s podcast. Hopefully Brian Shaw keeps working with arm wrestlers.
Great video, lessons from Derek was easy to watch and learn and good vibes🤙🏾
This deserves a like before i even watch it because i can't wait to see you get into armwrestling, and i saw some from Derek's channel
