Very nice! I love watching you guys carve from start to finish!
+Bob Thank you Bob....
Bob jj
Great sign..you sure have a steady hand!!
Thank you...
I just found your channel and it brought tears to my eyes to hear how close you and your Dad are. I recently lost my Dad to cancer, and we were close like that. That is what life is about, you and I are very blessed to be son's of such great Dads. God bless you both!
Thank you so much, so sorry for your loss. Yes we are blessed indeed.
Dave Rhoten By the way I forgot to mention. .. from one woodworker to another, you very skilled at what you do! I'm surprised you weren't born with routers for hands!
You mean like "Edward Scissorhands"?...maybe I could be "David Routerhands"...
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! In my opinion that would be a much better movie! God bless!
two questions for you Eric - what size were Dodson letters and the chevy logo with the circle - where did you find it. Good explanation on how to make a sign from beginning to end. Thanks
Burt
+Burt G Hi Burt, 2" & 1 1/2" outset on the top line. 1" inset on the bottom line. The chevy logo is a 3.25" circle. Found it on google.
How do you get perfect lettering onto the wood BEFORE the carving?
+joe camel I'm just trying to learn how to do this as a hobby. You guys are GREAT!
+joe camel We use what we call call Layout letters. We lay them on the board then spray over them with black and that leaves a line to go by when you freehand. We have tons of videos showing the process. Thank you for watching, Eric
+joe camel Thank you Joe. We appreciate the kind words and for watching, Eric
Hey, Erik. I live in Sweden. I've been trying to find the tools that you use to mill the signs you make but can't find them in Sweden. Do you know where I can buy them? Grateful for an answer. Sincerely, Dick Nilsson
Hi Dick, we do sell most of our product internationally through the eBay global; shipping program. Here's a link to our international eBay store www.ebay.com/usr/oldave100?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 I f I can answer any other questions for you please email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you for watching!!!
Hey Eric/ Dave what size of letters are those 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 thanks
3 sizes, 2" and 1 1/2" on the top line. 1" on the bottom line.
Thanks but what size is the one sign your making the sign with
Can I buy one of the bases?
Yes we have them on our website, makeawoodsign.com. Just click on the Sign Carving Supplies tab and you'll see all our supplies. If you have any other questions please email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you for watching!!!
Hi guys, may I suggest you place in front of every future videos a drill bit similar to the one you use in carving, so we have a steady view of the tool bit? You could place a label with the name, model, angle of the drill. Thanks for your videos.
Thanks for the suggestion. You can see all the bits close up on our video Coffee & Questions 8/31/16. Also they are on the website makeawoodsign.com.
You are just the guy I was looking for. These are great videos! Thanks!
Thank you for watching Gerrit. Glad we could help.
Probably the best sign carving video I've ever seen. Ever. Thank you for taking all of the time to show all of the steps.
Wow, Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching!!!
I forgot to add that it's always a big help that Dave asks questions that may be in beginner's minds. A lot of times he asks them at about the same time that I'm wondering them.
+Jim Hester Yes dad is great that way.
instead of blowing off the dust ... vacuum it off. Why breathe it all in?
I made a video on this not too long ago. I would rather blow the dust out as to not scratch the black background.
Dave Rhoten
I am sure a vac brush is softer than the stiff brush you used to scrub out the wood before painting. also a soft paint brush with the vac raised up from the surface would work. If blowing it off outside is safe fine. I was concerned with the audience that watched in the room. same thing is true with sanding the wood. lastly for your videos try editing the power sander noise out. I have an artist that does this so we don't hear his heat gun blow drier.
OK
You are a real artist you make that look so easy. One who makes that look that easy must have been doing this for a long time.
Thank you, yea I've been doing it for a while now, about 45 years. Thank you for watching....
I only own Porter Cable Routers. 3 hole for bases. Do I need to buy the Dewalt Router Dave
Absolutely not. Porter cable makes great routers. We have base plates for the P/C 450 as well as the P/C 690LR.
SENDME A LINK TO GET THE AMAZON ROUTER.
This video was from over a year ago. We don't have a link. You should be able to just search Amazon for DWP611 router and you'll find it. Thank you for watching, Eric
Are those letters drawn free hand and can you use stencils? thnx
No they're not freehand. We have stencils (we call them layout letters) that we sell on our website, makeawoodsign.com.
ty will visit
awesome..i was introduced to your channel by the idaho painter sign video you did for him..ive always wanted to learn how to do signs like this one and make a little extra cash on the side..more as a hobby. but thanks for including the info on what bits and depths to use..this is a very good video for beginners like me..also what do you do as far as lettering? Is it hand drawn or can I buy stencils for every different font or letter style? and after you router or carve the outside of the letters i noticed there are like hills or uneven bit marks after..do you sand those flat or leave them? do you recommend any type of hand carving tools? i look forward to watching your videos. i would love to see you make a Harley davidson black and orange painted sign lije this one..or a good sized Ford emblem sign..it would be interesting to see how you do the lettering on the ford emblem..ive always wanted to do one..thanks for the great videos!!
Hi Matthew, Thank you for watching. I use all kind of fonts, I call them Layout letters. We have lots of stuff available on our website makeawoodsign.com under the Sign Carving Supplies tab. I normally leave the background textured but I have ways to make it flat as well. I've done tons of different logos and designs. I don't do the Harley logo because of copy write issues but I do have a Live to Ride biker sign design I've showed several times. Last one on Coffee & Questions 2/1/17. If you have more questions the easiest and fastest way to contact me is direct email, eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thanks again for watching, Eric
Dave Rhoten ok thanks for the reply. and I will definitely check out your website and products. I look forward to more cool videos.
can you use the routers like a multi purpose one? I plan on getting one but I don't have the money for multiple.
Hi Nathan, thanks for coming over from Flukemaster. Sure, lots of good routers out there that will work for everything. Porter Cable 690LR is a great router if you're going to buy new. Many of my student start with used tools because of tight budgets. You can probably get one at a pawn shop pretty cheap. Thanks, Eric
Eric, what was the material you used for cleaning belt sander? Thank you.
It's call a sanding belt cleaner. You can find them at just about any woodworking supply. I buy mine on amazon. Here's a link POWERTEC Abrasive Cleaning Stick amzn.to/2zptC1c Thank you for watching, Eric
saved me asking :)
Just watched, "Coffee & Questions 2/13" and it answered most of my question. I like knots on my signs, I try not to have a knot where I'm cutting. When I cut into a knot even a little, 50/50 chance it's going to tear out. Is this just me or the luck of the draw? The "D" in your sign was just fine, I will say, I haven't been gluing my knots. Thanks
+Jerry Ivy Sounds like you're just been unlucky. If they have any movement at all you will improve your luck if you glue them. Give it a shot. Thank you, Eric
I'm a new subscriber and I've only watched a couple of your videos (and am looking forward to more). I see that you use multiple routers. Can I do complete signs with a Dewalt trim router, or do I need to invest in another more powerful one for the larger areas?
Hi Tim, thank you for subscribing & watching. Yes the dwp611 will do everything but some of the heavier operations eventually I would get a bigger router for. Otherwise if you start making lots of signs you may wear out your little trim router. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other specific questions I can help with, eric@makeawoodsign.com.
Unreal, this is so good to see what a good router can do and patience. Hey you got a good thing going with Dad too. I always wanted to do my own signs so now I am on it with your guidance, i will watch all your other videos. Regards Trevor (Australia)
Thanks so much Trevor, I really appreciate the compliments. ... If I can answer any questions for you please email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com
Love your tutorials! !!..hey, I can't find the precision bit you use for pictures.....what exactly do you use??..I have all types of bits for router and dremel but I need the kind you use for small pictures....can I use a V type at a shallow depth???...or a 1/8" straight bit for small pictures
Thank you for watching and the nice compliments, we really appreciate it. Almost all our bits are a v groove. I mostly use 2 different bits for the small detail work. Our profile bit, and the SC-50. We have lots of videos where we show our bits but check out Coffee & Questions 8/31/16. I go over all the bits we use and what they do. Thanks again, Eric
Where do you get the bits you are using? Checked Home Depot, Lowes, Harbor Freight....Nada. Thanks and great work!
All of the bits we use are available on our website makeawoodsign.com. Just click on the Sign Carving Supplies and there is a category Router Bits. If you have any other questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you....
When you get hear the end of the can, point the nozzle to the black dot. That is the directions of the pick up tube
Thank you...
Hi. I was wondering, do you provide anything to the customer to hang the signs with, or do you leave that up to them? Thanks.
Hi Jon, yes on my small house signs I provide 4 screw eyes and 2 S hooks for no extra charge.
Hi Eric, I know you use the belt sander, but have you ever tried the random orbital sander? Thanks.
For fine finish sanding I have a small Skill Octo Sander. It works great.
The question is, is it worth to make a sign that takes certain amount time and if customer willing to pay the asked price in return.. worthy of time spent making it from a business stand point. For a hobby I guess that doesn't matter.
I think you're asking am I making enough $'s making the sign to make it worth my time? I guess everyone has to answer that for themselves. For me, yes it's definitely worth my time.
Do you have a recommendation for a company that would fix/replace bearings in a router? Thanks, Larry David
We have a place in vegas we take stuff to. It's called Tool Service. I would look for some place near you. I would google search Small Tool Repair and see what you have near you. Hope this helps, Eric
What size of bit are you using on this video? It looks small. Thanks for sharing.
I used several different bits on this sign. The first one I used is our Profile Bit. That's the one that dad designed. We have all of the bits we use available on our website makeawoodsign.com. If you have any specific questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you for watching.....
I am just getting into woodworking, and I really enjoyed watching this, seeing it done close up. Are there any books or resources that you would encourage a beginner to invest into? I have been building up my tool collection, but I could definitely use some pointers. Thanks!
Hi Ben, glad you find our videos helpful, we appreciate you watching. Don't know of any books I could recommend on this subject. I would suggest watch as many videos as you can and then if you have specific questions you can email me directly. eric@makeawoodsign.com Thank you again, Eric
I have heard that Silicone Spray will contaminate wood and wood finish, and it hangs around in the air a long time. I would use it outside, not anywhere near the area I do wood finishing.
Never had an issue with it. I only spray it in very shorty spurts.
Nicely done. I've been looking for a fun way to supplement my upcoming retirement income. Thanks. I'll be ordering some of your router bits shortly. Thanks again.
Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed it. If you have any specific questions just let me know, eric@makeawoodsign.com
I'm just starting a few signs. Can you suggest where to buy the letters you use.RegardsMartin
Welcome Martin, yes you can buy lots of supplies including the layout letters from our website: makeawoodsign.com Thank you for the interest. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you, Eric
what do you call the acrylic at the bottom of your trimmer , it is make easy to carving something... how to make it ... i used Bosch trimmer
It's what we call a Router Base Plate. Yes it works great for better control of your router. It also lets you see your work better. Some people make their own... pretty easy to make. Another option is we sell them on our website makeawoodsign.com under sign carving supplies. Thank you for watching. If you have any other questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com.
Great work. Can you tell me what kind of non slip mesh you are using. I need to get some. Thank you sir.
On this video I was using shelf liner but now I use a rubber pad. You can see it on video Coffee & Questions 10/2/17. I love it... Thank you for watching, let me know if you have any other questions I can help you with eric@makeawoodsign.com
What primer was you using? I believe you said Kraylon but is it for metal or wood.
+r3_woodcraft It's Rustolium. You can see it on several of my videos. I really don't if it made for metal or wood or both. Check out Newsletter #130. I show a close up of the can. Hope this helps.
Another great one guys. I chuckle when I watch how fast you are then I do it in slow motion. I'm doing ok on 1.5" to 3" letters but not so much on 3/4" to 1" letters. More practice time I guess. lol.
+Donnie G we can all use more practice, especially beause it's fun.
Started watching your videos 6 months or so ago. Love them, lots of little tips that I find very helpful. One thing I try to figure out in your videos is what wood that you are using for each project. I can usually tell but sometimes the board is mostly covered or the video is zoomed way in and I can not tell. I would like to know what varieties of wood you use. Best and worst for cutting.
Thanks mike in minnesota
Hi Mike, Thank you for watching, so glad we could help. I use several kinds of wood depending on how big the sign is and what's available to me at the time. Also depending on what the customer likes.
1. My favorite is the cedar fencing. I think it's Northern White Cedar or similar. This is for smaller signs 5" wide or smaller.
2. Then Redwood fencing for same sizes as above.
3. Wider than 5" up to 11" wide I use Select Pine.
4. For large signs sometimes laminated Redwood.
5. Also for large signs laminated Western Red Cedar.
6. Another option for large signs is a panel board that is made from a species of pine.
All but the laminated Western Red Cedar are available at Lowes.
Woods I don't use: Oak, Alder, Poplar, just about any hardwoods. I prefer the softwoods. Let me know if you have any other questions I can help with eric@makeawoodsign.com Thank you
Hello Folks. Nice to see one of the Masters work the tools. Always educational to see how it's done right. Thanks.
+Van Stiller Thank you Van. Great to hear from you, Eric
Great vidoeo , Love that a farther and son works together. How do I get the router guide like you use for my bosch palm router the colt PR20EVS.
Thank you.
Thank you for watching. I'm not sure what you mean by Router Guide? Are you referring to the template guide for cutting board shapes? If so, you might check with Bosch, they probably have one. Hope this helps. If you have more questions you can email me eric@makeawoodsign.com.
This was awesome! I just got my 1st router for Christmas and I am so enjoying learning from you!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you for watching Lisa. I'm excited for you, please let me know if I can answer any questions for you. eric@makeawoodsign.com.
Where can I buy a bit like that?
I have had disastrous results in Oak with V and Round bits.
I'm in the UK.
All the bits I use are available on our website: makeawoodsign.com. We ship worldwide. Thank you, Eric
I been trying to find how to rout small letters into wood what's best router or trim router? What bit and what's the best technique
Jason, I like the small trim routers, easier to maneuver. I like our 60 degree bit and I would probably do them inset. Hope this helps. If you have more questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you
Hey guys, This is such a help for us beginners. Putting all the steps in one video, one right after another, is a great idea. I think you've covered them all before in separate videos, but this makes it a lot more clear and logical for me to follow. Also, you've demonstrated some things that I been guessing at, sometimes correctly and sometimes not. Thanks!
+Jim Hester Glad you enjoyed it. You're welcome. Thank you for watching, Eric
I have a Bosh PR20EVS Colt 1.o HP. Will your router base fit that style router?
Robert, Yes we have a base plate that will fit the Bosh Colt specifically. You can find it at makeawoodsign.com under sign carving supplies. If you have any issues let me know, thank you Eric
Do you send you router bits to England as can't seem to get any good bits here I tried to order some but only USA came up.
Yes we send bits to the UK all the time. Email vickiwithdavesigns@gmail.com. Let her know exactly what you want to order and your postal address and she'll give you a total price including shipping. Thank you, Eric
Hey great video! One question. What did you use to clean the belt on your belt sander?
Hi Mike, it a sanding belt cleaner. You can find a link in the description on our video #241. Thank you for watching and let me know if you have any other questions I can help with. eric@makeawoodsign.com
I just found your videos. They are awesome. I have experienced routers and love working with them.
But my question is..how do you transfer your image to the wood (easiest way). Thank you for all your videos. I will definitely keep watching!
Thank you Jennifer for watching and the compliments. For lettering I like using layout letters. Check out our videos #85,#86, #87. For artwork I have a playlist with several transfer techniques. My favorite is the one on #230. If you have any other questions I can help with you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com.
dint think id like it when u painted it but looks brilliant i think i might try this myself with a bit of mahogany
Thank you Tony, glad you liked it. If you make one please send me a picture. I'd love to see it. eric@makeawoodsign.com
Great video's Dave, can you please tell me what type paint spray's you use when stenciling or spraying the face of the boards? they seem to dry very fast and seem easy to sand away.
Thank you Corkey, I just sent you an email answering, hope it helps.
great content! but can you take the screaming routers out during editing? I turn off my sound ever time, it a pain on the ears.
sorry about that.....
I'm looking at learning how to do this, and I read on a forum that the bearings cost $10 or so and it's not too hard to replace them.
That could be. Back in the old days (1970's) I used to rebuild our routers all the time. These days we don't do much of that except replace brushes. Thank you for watching, Eric
I purchased 2 SC50 BITS from you. What do I use them for. Can you help me. Thank you
Spoke to Vicki on the phone and left you my number. You and Eric and Vucki are a great team
I tried to send you an email but I must have written it down wrong. Can you email me with your correct email address? vickiwithdavesigns@gmail.com Vicki
Wow! You're a really talented guy. The speed you were going at it with that router...if I was wearing one, I'd take my hat off to you.
LOL, Thank you!!!
I am going to get a Mikita 9403 sander the smaller sander I had couldn’t keep the belts on straight and really had no power. What do you think of the 9403.
Looks like a good sander and Makita generally makes a good tool. I really can't speak to this specifically because I've never used it.
3-07-2018 - - What was that you used to clean the belt with on the sander?
It's called a sanding belt cleaner. If you google it you'll see tons of them. Thank you for watching, Eric
Eric I take it that you used the 90 deg bit around Dodson and used it also on the names
Yes I use the 90 degree for the background on the outset letters, I use the 6o degree for the small inset letters.
Do you sell an Acrylic Base Plate for A Bosch MR23EVS? Thanks for your time
We don't have one that is pre dirlled for that one but our blank plate should work fine. You would just need to drill your own mounting hole. Here's a video that explains what I'm talking about ruclips.net/video/75FzDhQx4Fk/видео.html If you have more questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com, Thank you for watching
This video popped up in my feed and love the idea of the Dryer Sheet I’ll keep some handy for these dry days here in South Carolina…..great tip 👍
Thanks, buddy!!
Great video... inspiring and very helpful!
Thank you for watching... Glad to help, Eric
Is that a knot hole on the "D" or just a discolored ring?
+Jerry Ivy It's a tight knot
God Bless you guys. You and your Dad (the Boss is great too)! Thanks for the encouragement. I am thoroughly enjoying the carving. I rush home from work every day to practice.
Thank you so much for the wonderful comments. So glad we could help. We are so blessed to be able to do what we do because of great people like you. Keep making sawdust and email me some pix when you can, eric@makeawoodsign.com
Eric Steve look job you cll
I just found your videos and thank you ! Very good content and I may give that a try …… all I can do is mess it up and try again ….God Bless !
Thank you for watching Michael. Glad you're enjoying them. If I can answer any questions for you please let me know, eric@makeawoodsign.com
You guys are the best... you inspired me to go out and buy a router... and now I am wondering if I should quit my job and do this full time.
I was wondering if you could give me some advice on a problem I am having with a customer?
I was sent a design to copy, told exactly what size it would have to be and what not. Truth be told, this is the first time that my suggestions have been completely ignored and the sign I have made looks dreadful. The font and style my customer wanted me to do uses nasty sharp uneven letters and it is difficult to read from a distance. This is the first time I have been ashamed of something I have made, but then again, its not really my work. I personally would never have drawn such a poor design.
I did make other designs for this guy based on his one he sent me, but he was not having any of it. He wants his...
I simply do not want to sell such rubbish, because it reflects badly on me. This is a bar where probably 100 people walk in a day, and the first thing they will see is my sign on his wall.
Whats worse, is this guy will not answer my phone calls, text, facebook or email to let me know if he is happy with my work... and my dealiine is closing (plus I have a life and another job, I dont have time to be chasing people all the time).
Do you think you guys could make a video on how to deal with customers like this? I am hoping it is a one off, and that this never happens again, but I know it will. How can I explain to my customers that I want to make professional-looking signs, and not ones that look like soemthing from a rushed kindergarden art-class.
Thank U for the kind words. So glad you found us and we were able to spark an interest.
In regards to whether you should quit your job and do this full-time that is out of the realm of our expertise. So many different factors come into play that is a decision for you and your financial advisers.
The situation with your customer is a rather tough one. I have done signs before with the customers artwork that I thought could have been done much better had I designed it. However, if the customer is the one that designed it and that's what he wanted then I wouldn't feel bad about what you did.
On the other hand, you have the option of doing business or not doing business with whoever you please. Ultimately it is your call. The part that I'm confused about is your deadline closing? The other thing I'm curious about is did you get paid for this job yet? I'll put this on the list to do a video on soon. Thank you, Eric
First of all I usually carve using chisels and all or mostly by hand I have watched your videos and have a desire to use your technique. I bought a new router and tried to do what you did on your video and needles to say it was a disaster. First where do you get the the router holder that you use. Can I buy one and the bits, can I buy them ?My name is wayne and I'll send you my email address. Please let me know. ThankYou My email address is waynemarchand47@gmail.com .Thanks again in advance.@@oldave100
Is plain old black spray paint a good way to go. We are having trouble getting it off the signs. Any suggestions??
No I have never had luck with plain black spray paint. Here's a video Dave and I did a while back that explains it all ruclips.net/video/AA4ZCXotYCQ/видео.html
Sir great video and thank you for sharing. One question, what type of bit are you using or do you recommend using for this type or work? Thank you.
Thank you for watching and for the nice comments. I used several different bits on this sign depending on the operation. We have them all available on our website makeawoodsign.com. If you have any specific questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com

Hey Eric, Nice to see you on camera carving a full sign again buddy! Hey, when you first chamfer the edge of the wood, you went in a clockwise direction. I was taught to do this in a counter clockwise direction around the piece your working on. Can you advise? Talk soon!
+Mike Caruso Thank you Mike. Yea I've heard that to. When you're working with soft wood like I do it doesn't make much of a difference, at least not for me. I think if it were hardwood it maybe more important. That's my take.
+Dave Rhoten thanks brother!
This was a great video been checking out a few trying to learn how to make signs with a router. what bits should I buy?
Hi Steve, glad you liked the video. We appreciate you watching. On the router bits there are several that we use for different types of carving. So it would depend on what you wanted to do. We have a playlist called Router Bits and videos that will show you what each one does. #38, 39 & 40 dad does a great job explaining each one of them. Let me know if I can answer any othe questions for you. Thank you again, Eric
It's great to watch your videos thanks for another good one!
+WILLIAM HERRING Thank you for watching.
hi, I made my own base after watching your videos, for £1 !! I had brass handles around from previous work so it works a dream. Going to start making my signs right now... thanks for the inspiration. Also about to order the router bits from your website ( can t make them myself...) keep on posting
Thank you for watching. Glad we could help. Let me know if you have any specific questions I can help with. eric@makeawoodsign.com
@@oldave100sir good evening i'm inspired your work. What kinds of bits are u using, and how to order or buy.
Great carving, poor choice of board used. Just my opinion as I would not be happy paying for this carving with what appears to be wood knots in it.
Thank you Tom, I respectfully did agree, I like (and many others do too) boards with knots. The customer loved it....
Dave Rhoten than that's all that matters. Happy customer.... Happy Dave! Thanks
How did you get that lettering on there in the first place? it looks like you sprayed paint over letters laying on the board? Is that right?? I see that I need one of the steep letting bits to begin with!
Hi Jim, basically yes that's the way we did the layout. I have lots of videos on this process but here's one that I hope will help ruclips.net/video/QP1iY5SZjeI/видео.html We also sell all the router bits we use on our website makeawoodsign.com. If you have any other questions just let me know, eric@makeawoodsign.com
What kind of magnify glasses are you using?
Here's the Amazon link to the ones I use now Carson Optical Magnifiers amzn.to/2Aq9xYP
Hope this helps, Thank you, Eric
Once again great video. i have a question about what size were the letters on the sign. Thanks.
+Jackie Floyd Hi Jackie, 2" & 1 1/2" outset on the top line. 1" inset on the bottom line. Thank you for the nice comment & for watching, Eric
+Dave Rhoten Thank You.
Thanks for the step by step it is very helpful.
+Sawdust Trails Glad to help. Thank you for watching, Eric
What is the belt sander cleaner made from ?
Some kind of rubber material. I get mine from Harbor Frieght.
How much are the bases for my porter cable routers i have
I answered below
Love to watch you work and I learn every time, thanks.
+Bubber In Brunson Thank you sir, I appreciated it, Eric
I am a new subscriber, fantastic carving work :)
Thank you for watching and subscribing. If you have any questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thanks again, Eric
What do you do with a Router with bad Bearings. Get it repaired or throw it away.
On the small ones normally toss them. On the bigger ones most of the time rebuild.
I have a question hopefully you guys get back to me!!! the bottom attachment on your routers, is that something you guys sell??? let me know
Yes Aaron, we make and sell those on our website. makeawoodsign.com. Click on the Sign Carving Supplies tab under Acrylic Base Plates. Thank you for watching, Eric
Dave Rhoten no problem, have been doing wood work for awhile now but am really getting into these wood signs!!! your video was very helpful will definitely be keeping up with you guys!!!
Thank you...
Dave Rhoten have oooooone more question lol, so I'm about to purchase the same dewalt router you are using in this video, after doing my research and watching you....I've convinced myself this is my best route to go...no pun intended, but I'm also buying the larger one for doing big clean up areas....with that said this is the router I want set up with one of your acrylic bases you guys offer, but am thinking about getting a couple of bits from you guys. but being on a low budget just starting out with my wood working, I was wondering if you guys have maybe a starter pack bundle??? or I don't know some sort of beginner package lol....if you would either write me back here, or email me it would be most appreciated. thanks again and keep up the amazing videos!!!! I spend hours in my small workshop watching you guys 😊 aloffland87@gmail.com
great video thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching Jose
It looks like you go wide of the letter and then climb cut to finish it,,is that right?
Yes most of the time that is the way I do it.
Dave can you please tell me what type of black paint to use to stop the bleeding.
I use either Marsh Spray Stencil Ink, or Rustolium Black Primer.
Yes we have blank base plates that will work with most fixed base routers. All you would need to do is drill your own mounting holes like on this video ruclips.net/video/75FzDhQx4Fk/видео.html. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you, eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you...
I am sorry.
*What is the price for the sign.
I'm sorry I don't know what you're asking? You can email me directly at eric@makeawoodsign.com
That is a $75 sign. Thank you for watching, Eric

+Marybeth Novoselsky Thank you Miss Marybeth. Always great to hear from you, Eric

THANK YOU
You're very welcome, Thank You!!!
these signs are cool going to subscribe
Thank you. Much appreciated, Eric
Great stuff. I’d love to start doing something like this.
Thank you, you ought to give it a try, you might like it. Thanks for watching, Eric
Dave Rhoten Thanks for the reply Dave. I’m sure I’d love it. I tried to do a carve out a house sign in wood with a Dremel last month and it was very difficult. I own a dewalt plunge router and have been checking online to find stencils.
Dave, do you guys have a baseplate for the DeWalt DCW600B or should I order one of your blanks and drill to match? Thanks...Love the content.
Based on what I've seen online it looks like everything for this router is interchangeable with the DWP611. I think you're safe ordering the base plate for the DWP611. If it doesn't fit we'll make it right. If you do order it and it fits please let me know so I can let everyone else know. eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you!!!
@@oldave100 Thanks I will do that.
I'm considering getting a DW611. I currently have a Porter Cable 690lr. Would the DW611 be leaps and bounds better due to size or would that money be better spent on bits and lumber?
I like the small routers for carving, but I carved signs for decades with the bigger routers. The 690LR is a great router and will do everything you need. If you have to pick the bits and wood are FAR more important than the router.
@@oldave100 thanks for the quick reply. I've got an assortment of bits, but there are some others I'd like to get. Same with lumber, you can never have too much. I think I'll try the 690 for a while, then get the 611 later. That way I can leave the 690 in the table and not dismount it so often.
Were you using the 60% bit also toward the end.
Yes for the 1" inset letters.
Thanks for sharing your skills!
Thank you for watching, we appreciate it, Eric
Dave what type of bit is that?
I used 3 different bits for the carving on this sign. Our Profile bit, 90 degree, and 60 degree. They are all availbe on our website makeawoodsign.com under Sign Carving Supplies. If I can answer any other questions for you let me know eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you for watching
love dad's commentary.
Yes he's never at a loss for words, that's for sure, LOL
